OK, I don't know that is true and you probably guessed it, but I'm not a big fan of the Wikipedia concept, but that doesn't matter as long as you understand that the information contained within Wikipedia is not vetted in any traditional way. And yes, I do use Wikipedia occasionally as a resource but I do it knowing that accuracy of the information is always in question.

You can't create groups in the contacts app and even if you create a group in icloud.com, the group is useless for email purposes on the iPad. At least I have never been able to get the groups that I create in icloud.com to appears as options for emailing.
There are third party apps that will let you do this.

There is also a workaround where you type all of the email addresses that you want to create a group for in the Notes app separated by a comma,between each address. Copy and paste that one long "email address" in the contacts app and name it whatever you like. Select that as your group when you want to send the group email.
I Haven't done the workaround in ages, so experiment with it first. You may need to leave a space after the comma before you start trying the next email address.

Installed Maverick 10.9.2 and have problem sending emails to Group address's. I can add each reciepent one ata time but can not get the one click Group address to load like I could with OSX 10.7. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for replying. I did a poor job of explaining my problem. With OSX 10.7, Sending mail from my Mac Pro I was able to add multiple groups to the send line. Using OSX 10.9 I can only add one group, it does not allow multiple's.
I tried the CC line as well as BCC to no avail.
As far as one click, I prefix all groups names with a key double character to keep them together. Now I can type that key characters on the Send To line and bring up the list of groups to select from ( my one click reference).. I use a double ZZ. After selecting the first group, keying ZZ quickly allows subsequent groups etc. to include in the same email. It worked with 10.7, not in 10.9?
Rather time consuming, having to send each group the same email one at a time.

Shootist007, I think Cdf15 wants each recipient to see his/her own email address.
Cdf15, you can't quite do what you asked with Mail alone, but you can come close with a slight variant of what Shootist007 recommended. Just put a dummy address (perhars the sender's) in the To field and all recipient addresses in the Bcc field. That way, no recipient sees either the other recipients' addresses or their own.

The option to send as SMS only is subordinate to iMessage in iOS 8 settings and CANNOT be turned off to send only SMS texts to another iOS device! This is a serious privacy issue for all households using iOS and doing family sharing, including over a number of iOS devices, under one member's Apple ID. Why should business conversations or financial conversations between parents be readable on an iPad in the hands of a teenager or a seven year old? The answer is not as simple as "Just don't enable iMessage on your other devices," because amy family that shares the Apple ID password is vulnerable to teenagers particularly hacking into iMessage to monitor, for example, what their parents are saying. If I were Samsung or Google I would hammer this issue immediately and continually until it is fixed by Apple (and I'm not sure why they haven't yet). iMessage is a convenience but it has this serious limitation given the architecture of the Apple universe. Turning off iMessage does not prevent you from sending messages to other Apple users. You can send an SMS to any iPhone without your own iMessage turned on, even if it is turned on on their iPhone.
The SMS-only option is: Turn off iMessage. Literally. That's it.

If your friend doesn't want others to send messages via iMessage even when he has wi-fi access he can turn iMessage off in Settings > Messages. It depends on how you are planning to use this feature.
You can set up a mobile using special software in order to interface to it programatically - you can then, via this software interface, use this mobile to send SMS's.
Some service providers support an e-mail interface. Where you send the SMS as a the e-mail content and the mobile number as the recipient's address, or as the subject of the e-mail. However, many service providers have long since stopped providing this type of mail interface due to abuse. Remember that service providers are there to make money - not offer one a service via bulk SMS's can be send.
Some service providers have dial-up servers that works like the old style bulletin board systems (BBS's) of the 90's. You use a telnet like interface, dial into this BBS, and is prompted for mobile number, message to deliver, and even delivery confirmation. You can expect the cost of this phone call to this system, to also cover the cost of sending the SMS.
Some companies provide a software server to interface with one or more service providers - this allows you to fairly easily use this server gateway to send SMS's for you. Such a gateway server will typically support a telnet interface - allowing you to send SMS's via it from inside PL/SQL.
I've used all these options, and I've found the best one to be the last option. It is the easiest to use from a programming perspective. It comes with various management and reporting tools. So you need to do the very minimal in managing this whole SMS interface.
