How do you setup a Foscam IP Camera with Airport Utility 6.1?

I've been going at this for hours but can't seem to figure out how to set this up. I already have an account at no-ip.com as some of the instructional videos have directed me, and it keeps telling me to do some sort of port forwarding stuff. How to I manage this on the latest version (6.1) of Airport Utility? I'm using a Foscam FI8910W Wireless IP Camera. Local connection works fine and everything seems to be in working order, but I can't figure out how to connect from other computers/devices that arent in my wifi network.
Can someone give me step-by-step instructions on how to set this up?
I'm using Mountain Lion with the latest Airport Extreme.

For two days i've been trying to get my new Foscam FI8910W Wireless IP Camera configured to work over the internet.  Getting it set up on my local network was a breeze, but when it came to port forwarding on my Apple Airport Extreme, I was following all the instructions using the Airport Utility to open and forward ports and I set up my account with no-ip.org, but I couldn't for the life of me get my hosted site address to access the camera.
Finally it clicked; this month I switched to AT&T U-verse as my ISP.  They provided me with two separate pieces of equipment, a Wireless Access Point (WAP) and a gateway/modem.  I left the WAP disconnected and had the modem connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet connection, this way i didnt have to reconfigure the wireless access for all my devices (they were still using the Airport network's login credentials and faster wireless N network).  I was forwarding the ports on my Airport Extreme, but did i have to set up any configuration with my new U-verse equipment?  sure enough, i looked at the box they gave me and its actually a wireless router and gateway in one, with its own firewall.  This is what was blocking my port forwarding.
I located the equipment manual online (this is what i have, probably AT&T standard issue: http://hackingbtbusinesshub.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/3801hgv_user_guide_rev-1 -0.pdf) and used it to open a 'pinhole' (aka Port).  This part probably varies depending on your equipment, but I was able to reconfigure the firewall to 'allow a user defined application'.  My 'user defined application' was simply TCP protocol, with a port range from 81 to 81 (my camera is set up at port 81).  I left all the other fields blank, clicked save and voila!  Working streaming video from 4g via my iphone to my Foscam IP camera!  Awesome!!!
I know the technical details of my explanation here are a little lacking, the reason i felt compelled to share this is that if you're frustrated and you feel you've been following all the instructions to open your Airport Extreme ports and you're still not having any luck, there may be some additional networking equipment provided by your ISP that also needs to be configured to allow outside traffic to access your camera.
Good luck!

  • How do you setup a user mobile account, with the home directory stored locally and not synced to the server?

I want to be able to setup a user mobile account, with the home directory stored locally and not synced to the server.  What is the best way to do this? I am running Server 10.6 with 10.6 clients.  Open Directory will be used to authenticate and manage preferences.   Also, this one account will be used simultaneosly in a computer lab setting, so files will be stored locally in the client, hence the need to NOT sync to the server.  Any Ideas?

The attached screen shots should help you:
You will only have to do this step once. Obviously you want to use the user's shortname here.
Then, you will see this as an option in WGM:

  • How do you setup LibreOffice?

I downloaded LibreOffice from the net.  The script that came with it copied it to Applications.  How do you setup LibreOffice so it is invoked when you open a document, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing or database?

For the documents (.e.g, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, AppleWorks, others) that you want to be opened by LibreOffice when you double-click them, select each icon type, and either press cmd+I (eye) for Get Info, or control+click on the icon to show the contextual menu, and then select Get Info.
In the Get Info panel (that may popup underneath Safari), there is an Open with section, and a default application is shown. Change this to LibreOffice, and then click the Change All… button. You will get a Are you Sure dialog, and then press Continue. If you did this for a .docx icon, then a future Word .docx files will be opened by LibreOffice. You would have to repeat this process for any .doc icon as well.
You can also drag and drop files on the LibreOffice icon in your Dock, if you dragged and dropped it from its /Applications location onto the Dock. When you first launch LibreOffice, you will get a dialog that has an open on it. Just press open, and you will not be challenged with this dialog again. If you were to click the Open Files part of the LibreOffice opening panel, then click again on the File types in the document chooser, you would see the extensive list of documents it can open.
If you have a single Page PDF, you can drop it on the LibreOffice icon, and you now have an editable PDF document. Don't overlook the PDF manuals located on the LibreOffice site They were written in LibreOffice Writer.

This is the Apple Support page for Boot Camp:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
No mention anywhere of Lion, of 4.0/4.01
In the past, 10.6.6+ was suppose to - and sometimes did - provide for a download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant program, in order to save them to flash or such (that should be about 1GB, too large for CD). Some macs req'd a USB-DVD or other driver that was needed pre-install of Winidows
You don't install Apple drivers until after Windows is installed otherwise,
It is possible for me, with a tower, to run w/o needing any drivers from Apple. But with laptops, mini, you do need some drivers from Apple for graphics, internet, wireless, SMC support.
And right now, loading any Apple support Tech Note articles is very very slow.
People keep asking why Apple can't post 3.0 or 4.0 like they do the updates. Only logic is to force t he download from inside OS X or from an OS X DVD. Otherwise would be here, and avoid all the trouble. they aren't of use on a PC, and any PC motherboard vendor does post their support software for download.

There is a Ubuntu 10.4 version for Mac with PPC architecture; not sure
how that would work in the computer you may consider running it in.
Some leads on that kind of discussion can be found by using a Google
search, and the words: *ubuntu for PPC G4 Mac* + read through results.
Or choose to search using these terms: *Open Source Linux PPC G4 Mac*
A few results point back to Apple Discussions, where there were inquiries.
Note the version of a Linux-type of OS, compatible with Mac PPC hardware,
on the following page-link: *• Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS (Lucid Lynx)*
    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/10.04/release/
{You would have to put the image, as downloaded from such a site, on a CD
    for use as an Installer; then follow any instructions as available to install it.}
An old page (from 2007?) with some details, some not up-to-date,
may be of help to a limited degree, from here: Ubuntu PPC wiki
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ#Is%20Ubuntu%20supported%20on%20PowerPC?
    Or: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ
See their home page to look for other information on the site: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/
These wiki groups are like communities, with rules & other such considerations; you
may be able to also find +Open Source+ sites with information and builds of suitable
Linux versions capable of running well in an older PPC Mac. There are newer ones
that would have no problem on a newer Intel-based Mac, of course.
    • Mac Linux Links: (perhaps too dated)
    http://lowendmac.com/linux/index.shtml
    • Comparison of Linux distributions:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparisonof_Linuxdistributions
Hardware support in the older PPC G4 Mac computer should be considered, in order
to have the better experience possible with the Linux-based OS; and some specs in
an old Mac may not be ideal. The graphics processor unit and amount of dedicated
RAM for the graphics alone, could make a difference; depending on what you had in
mind when running a Linux-based OS in a PPC Mac. So consider hardware specs.
Some hardware in the computer may or may not be supported by the Software; and
then, there may be some problems implementing a Linux OS version in your Mac.
If you had an old Mac Mini (PPC or early Intel) & considered running Linux, there's
a page of general ideas worth a peek: http://sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/
You may not have enough room on the existing internal hard disk drive inside the
iMac G4, for a complete OS X 10.3.9 or Later OS X, and a partition for Linux in it.
And, you may find through reading further, if you need to (or don't) start fresh and
have a partition for each different OS, or not. For organizational purposes and ease
of removing one system or the other, a partitioned hard disk drive may be best.
There probably is a way to have Linux on an external bootable hard disk drive; &
that would have to be compatible with the Mac hardware requirements to be seen
and used by the computer, and also the ability to restart from Linux into Mac OS X
would have to exist in the system software. Hopefully without incident.
You will have some degree of a learning curve in this matter, from reading up on
the details of any viable Linux versions, through the ones likely to work in your
old PPC G4 Mac, and then if there are more than two or three good ones, of those
what one would be most likely to be worth the additional effort to attempt to use in it.
Depending on the version and specifications of your iMac G4 computer, there could
be different versions of linux systems capable of running it. However, some items
may not be supported which you would need to have working, such as wi-fi internet
and sleep mode, etc; among others. Searching the net does bring up more info.
{You may find, that going to OS X 10.4.11 would be more worth the effort, in that
most everything would 'just work' and you can still find many good software bits
and some fine freeware or low cost shareware to run on it. Linux versions vary
    so much on what they can and cannot do, I would not recommend running it.}
Since I am not an expert in the matter, hopefully someone with a experimental time
and results in a similar vintage Mac as yours will reply and give you insightful info.
    Good luck & happy computing!
