How do you setup a gmail account in mail?

My college uses a gmail based mail client using google apps. However, i want to setup IMAP access in Apple mail for convenience. For some reason I cannot find a way for mail to access gmails incoming or outgoing mail client. Any tips? My college website is www.selu.edu. Webmail is located at the bottom of this page.
My email address is [email protected]
I then enter my password and continue.
on the next page i enter account type IMAP
and set the incoming mail server as imap.gmail.com
my username is the XXXX
and the password i enter then continue
after hitting continue the error message at the bottom reads:
"Logging in to the IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages."
Ii continue anyway and the inbox never receives messages and continously asks for a pass word
Any suggestions?

Solved my own problem:
When it asks for the username, you must include your domain, unlike other clients.
So i added my @selu.edu to the end and it worked fine. I'm sure this would work for all GoogleApps users

Hi! So I finally found a disk cleaning kit and tried it out. No luck : (
The exact thing that occurs is:
Put disk in. It does not show up. Cannot get it out.
Turn computer on and off.
Message comes up saying it cannot read the disk and if I would like to erase the disk or eject it.
Then I eject it.
That's the whole of the cycle.
So do you think that just means it;s busted and no other way I can solve it but go with the external drive at this point?

To delete a mail account in Mail, open Mail, and go to Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts. Then, select the account you want to remove and press the - button.
Then, press the + button to add the AOL mail account

You should be able to add the email account to the Mail app like you add any account.
You can also go to Settings>iClould and change the iCloud account but you can't have both account on at the same time.

I have a POP Gmail account set up with with my Mail application and i runs fine except its not quite what i want
For example, when i delete emails from the Mail app, they still remain in my Gmail inbox and vice versa. I also have my mail synced with my iphone so when i send emails on my iPhone, they dont appear in my sent folder on my Mac etc
firstly, how can i fix this and also, whats the differnece between POP and IMAP set-up, i have another email account configured with IMAP and it does exactly what i want, is this the reason why?

yes. delete that account and recreate it as an imap account (gmail allows both). when creating the account using the account wizard uncheck the box to set it up automatically. This checkbox creates a POP account and you want imap.

Multiple mail accounts? With mail.app? It doesn't matter what mac it is? Just set up accounts with Mail.app preferences --> Accounts --> '+', fill in the relevant info.

I read the previous post about the yahoo email account and I was wondering if the same applies for a Gmail account. It is a free account, and I think that set up all of the information right, however I still cannot complete the setup. Maybe i am setting up the POP information wrong, but I'm not sure.

Using firefox how do you setup a email account and or a webpage for viewing offline?

on my previous computer I was able to check my emails offline and I would like to be able to do the same on my current computer. It was already set that way, I can't remember now if it was through Firefox or Internet Explorer. according to Help & Support, Internet explorer no longer supports this service. any help I could get with this would be wonderful. Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data. Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted. Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

Then select "Add a Mail Account and click create

The iPad doesn't have multiple user account options, like desktop computers. That being said, you can setup multiple email accounts in Mail and view the Inboxes individually, download seperate email apps, or use web based email services.
