How do you setup an Airport Express to only stream music???

+I have a Time Capsule setup as my base for the internet access, followed by an airport express for wireless usb devices and for my stereo. I have a second airport express to which I want to setup for streaming music only. When I leave my home and go to friends etc i which to stream music via this second airport express.+
When I setup this device I get "problem connecting to the internet" I have marked that I do not which to connect to the Internet and the following message comes "make sure your ethernet cable is connected" blah blah blah. All I need is a portable music streaming "Airport Express" device, no connecting to another network, no internet access ect. Please can someone help?????? Am I just chancing my tail???

So you want to set the AirPort Express (AX) up at a location with no wireless network and no Ethernet network?
Just configure the AX to create a wireless network and ignore the messages about not being connected to the internet... because you aren't. Have your computer join the wireless network created by the AX. Start iTunes and stream music.

The airport is not "seeing" the wireless network, do i need to change the network settings in the g4 or do i need to change the configuration of the d-link 514 router?

Is your goal to extend the D-Link's wireless network, wirelessly, with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) so that your G4 can gain Internet access? If so, unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your D-Link router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The few that are known to work are:
o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
o BT Voyager 2091
o Netgear WGR614 v6
o Buffalo WGR-G54

i was using the linksys router but as my flat was big . i use powerline adapter from linksys also PLWK400 and it was working perfectly .
but when i change my router to apple ( airport express ) the power line adapter not work any more.
i have contacted the linksys Tech support and they inform me that pwoerline adaoter should work with any router.but unfortunately not work with apple router.
can some body help please...

You would need the AirPort Utility app for your iPad in order to administer the AirPort Express. Note: The version of this AirPort Utility will not support older 802.11g AirPort base stations. The AirPort Utility is available from the Apple App Store.

Airport Express cuts off streaming music

I have an Airport Express 802.11n (2nd Generation) Version 7.6.2 Firmware
I have configured my network to use my airport express to stream music from iTunes. My music stops sporatically when streaming. It eventually starts back up, then it stops again sometimes for as long as a minute. FRUSTRATING.
The musis still plays on my computer, it's just something with the music stream. Has anyone else encountered this?
The Airport express is configured to "Join Wireless Network" and the security is "WPA2 Personal"
I'm connecting to a Cisco Systems WAP AP610N with a wireless band of 2.4GHz and a Channel Width of 20 MHz
Standard Channel is: 6 which is 2.437GHz
Any suggestions on why?

My Airport Express will not stream music to my remote speakers through the laptop (windows Vista), gives error code -15000. Works fine from my IPAD and Ipod. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Itunes is throwing a -15000 error code on my Windows vista. Ipad and Ipod work great for streaming to remote speakers, trying to use the computer and it throws the error code.
Any thoughts? I've rebooted the laptop, modem, and AE, even plugged in the laptop recommended by other users, still nothing.

I have a power mac g5 that does not have a wireless card, and connects to the internet via ethernet cable.
I want to know how to set up an airport express so that it joins my wireless home network and provides the G5 with an internet signal.
This via an ethernet cable that is plugged into the airport express and then into the ethernet port on the g5.
Please advise as I have configured the airport express in every way possible, the green light is on and when I plug the ethernet cable into the G5 my network cofigurations shows nothing and says that the ethernet cable is not plugged in (It is).
I get an internet signal if the ethernet cable is plugged directly into my wireless router, so the ethernet port works.

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

How Do I Run Older AirPort Express Base Station with Yosemite

I am running Yosemite, Airport Utility 6.3.4, which doesn't see my older Air Port Express.
I also have an older Mac, running Snow Leopard, which does see it.
In other threads discussing this same issue, access to an older mac is proposed as a solution... but the level of detail doesn't go much beyond, "use a Mac running an older operating system / version of airport utility to reconfigure the Air Port Express."

Once setup the airport express can be used by any wireless device. The actual OS or firmware it is running is irrelevant.
So simple.. set up the airport express in whatever role you want them.. I cannot give you details since you have not given any info on how you want to use them.
Once setup say to play music to a speaker.. the Mac will be able to find the device.. airport utility will see the device .. it is simply that Apple decided you cannot configure it.
If you want details, then we need full details of the network.. and how you intend to use the express.

Is your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) a 802.11n model? If it is, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge or ProxySTA. This would allow the AX to join another wireless network and have its Ethernet port enabled for wired clients, like the Xbox 360.

If that is all that is done, the Express would not provide more wireless coverage. You must have misunderstood what I was saying.
Linksys is providing a wireless network.
The Express is connected to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys router using a long Ethernet cable (or Ethernet powerline adapters)
The Express is located on the other side of the house, for example.
The Express is configured to create a wireless network using the same wireless network name, security and password as the Linksys router
The Express is configured in Bridge Mode
This has worked quite well for me for years. Computers "switch" from one wireless access point to another smoothly and automatically while they move around the house.
Although this is an "extended" network, it is technically known as a "roaming" network.
This is what I was suggesting as a possible alternative without having to buy more hardware.

You will need to set a WEP key. You may need to root the system do some things at the command line. I recommend against that.
Laptops don't work well as routers but it is possible.
Hook up the AirPort express to the laptop using an Ethernet cable and configure with the AirPort utility as if you are setting up a print server or base station. The Android should see the AirPort Express after that.

This might work better if you used the AirPort Express as a base station instead of trying to use the laptop as a base station. Then your Android would have Internet access.

How do I reconfigure my Airport Express in client mode?

My home uses an AT&T U-Verse wireless network to connect to the Internet. I also have an Airport Express hooked to a USB HP Printer to create wireless access to the printer. With a change in U-Verse service, AT&T replaced my network interface with a new box, connected that box to new port at the sub-station, a new wireless network name and a new wireless network password. Now everything works except my "wireless" printer. I suspect that the issue is that the Airport Express has the wrong network name and password, but cannot figure out how to change it. My Airport Utility is version 6.3.1 and it does not find my Airport Express. My Airport Express is an older one and I can find no model number on it anywhere. How do I reconfigure my Airport Express.
Previously when trying to install an Airport Extreme on my system, I proved with several long conversation with Apple support that it would not work with the U-Verse system. I had to take the Airport Extreme back and use two USB hard drives for Tim capsule backups, one for each computer.

AirPort Utility 6.3.1 will work with the AirPort Express A1264, so something else is amiss.
Power up the AirPort Express for a few minutes, then hold in the reset button on the Express for 10-12 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart.
Open AirPort Utility
Click on Other WiFi Devices
Click AirPort Express
That should allow you to reconfigure the Express
