How do you stack or layer instruments

Is it possible and how, to route midi from an software instrument track into for example a reason rewired track? I want to stack the sound of a midi track without physically copying the midi data and pasting into a rewire or other soft synth track. I believe the environment can do this but not sure how. For example, I have a exs synth playing a vibe sound and would like to also have a reason instrument "see" the midi data, without copying the data from the exs track into a reason track. I midi track triggering several midi sounds if you will.

Go to Environment and wire Software Instrument objects together. This way everything you play on the MIDI keyboard will be played back by all instruments
To add a Reason instrument to the Logic stack of Software Instruments, you have to create a ReWire object in Environment and connect it to Physical Input object

  • How do you stack different photos in the editor layers pallet

How do you stack different photos in the editor layers pallet? I can get different photos in the editor, but I cannot figure out how to get different photos into the layers pallet at the same time.  Please help!!!!!

Just to clarify, you can never see the layers panel for more than one photo at a time. The suggestions you got will show all the photos, but because they are now combined as layers in one image.
If you want to see more photos in the editor at once, go to the preferences>general and turn on Allow Floating Documents, then go to Window>Images>Float all in windows, then Cascade or Tile.
But you will still only see the layers panel for the image that is active at the moment.

  • Newbie Question ... How do you Unlock Background Layer

How do you unlock the background layer?  I put together an image then flattened it.  Now it is showing as locked.  I want to make changes to the various layers I used to make the image.  The lock symbol in ghosted, as well as the Lock Grid image.
Can anyone offer any quick assistance?
    Thanks.

You'll get better response on the Photoshop Elements forum for a Photoshop Elements question, of course.
But, meantime, try double-clicking on the Background layer on the Layersa palette.

  • How do you make the layer mode take effect with no background in Elements?

I have a picture of water splashing over a black background (like this:
although this isn't the exact one). By turning the blending mode to "screen", I get the effect I want: it basically looks like the water is splashing over my image. The thing is, I need to save it as a .png file with part of the water "dripping" off the edge of my photo onto a transparent background (background must be transparent). The problem I have is as soon as the image hits the transparent background, the black comes back.
I need a way to either remove all the black from the photo or, more ideally, find a way to make the image I see in "normal" blending mode the same as the image I see in "screen" mode. Any ideas? (I have Photoshop Elements 7.0, btw)
    Thanks!

I don't understand how you're using "screen" blending mode on a single image, but is this the effect you're trying to get (I used a blue colour to show the transparent area at the bottom of the image):
I used the free KillWhite plug-in (http://mikes3d.com/extra/scripting-plugins/killwhite/) with your image:
Converted the image to RGB.  (Image...Mode...RGB Color)
    Duplicated the background layer (Ctrl+J).
Inverted the colours on that duplicated layer (Ctrl+I), so that the black background becomes white.
Used KillWhite to...well...kill the white on that layer.
    Inverted the colours again.
Used Enhance...Lighting...Brightness/Contrast as well as Levels to darken the water splash.
Added my flower image below the water splash layer and raised the bottom edge of the flower image to leave a transparent area.
My layers wound up looking like this:

Except that z-index of 2 will appear HIGHER in the

  • How do you get a MultiTimbrel Instrument Set Up In Logic?

    Hi...
First of all I'd like to say (since this a basic question...) I did read up on it first.  However, I'm still not convinced it functioning as it should.
What I have is MOTU's MachFive2 opened as a multi-timbral instrument in Logic Pro.  However, it still doesn't seem to function the proper way...  If I load samples into the various MIDI Channel slots and have the Channels for each track set to the corresponding MIDI Channel number...  Something Just isn't quite right.  Not sure why but I don't think I'm setting up the instrument properly in logic.  I already tried talking to MOTU's forum but they were pretty sure it was more related to logic.
In Motu's MachFive2 Sampler I have the ability to setup 16 channels in several different banks giving me the ability to run one Plug-In which supports layering, multi channels and various other MIDI related capabilities.
Can someone quickly run me through the steps to make sure I am setting up the MachFive2 plug-in sampler correctly?
    It would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!!

    Hi
    Step 1
Create a New Software Instrument channel using the New Tracks button. Select the Multi-Timbral check box and choose how many MIDI channels/Parts you wish.
    Step 2
Load up your Instrument in the I/O slot and load in all the necessary sounds. Check that all are assigned internally to the correct MIDI channels (and possibly audio outputs)
    Step 3
Select the appropriate track in Logic.
You should be good to go?

  • How do you get multiple live instruments to put out sound?

I just got a M-Audio 61 keyboard from my wife for our anniversary. I love it and it works great with GarageBand 1.X. I also have a guitar I use with GB. It is plugged in the 1/8 in. mini jack input in the back of the Mac. I however can't get both to put out sound at the same time. Lets say, for instance, that I would play the guitar and my wife the keys. How can I get both to put out sound at the same time?
Thank for any help you can offer.
Your friend in Mac OS X,
    Jose

    Danke Christoph!
I was glad to get your response. I thought I was not doing something right in GarageBand. I'll get GB2 and try out multiple live sources.
    Once again thanks.

  • How can you edit a MIDI instrument recording to do a slide?

I wrote a tune on Finale Songwriter and saved is as a MIDI file then dragged into Garageband. I would like to edit it to include some slides from one note to another. Pitchbend doesn't allow enough pitch variation to slide a full pitch. Is there another way to do it?

Which instrument are you using? Some Jam Pack instruments include slides.
See the "Instrument Tips" that came with Jam Pack 3: for example:
Aggressive Fretless: Highest velocity adds slide down to note
Attitude Bass, Glam Rock Bass, Grind Bass:  Mod wheel adds slide up to note; Notes below E0 play slides and dives.
Liverpool Bass: Notes below E0 give slides, harmonics, and pick sound.
Motown Bass: Highest velocity adds a slide down from the note. Notes below E0 give slides, harmonics, and pick sound.
Bluegrass Banjo, Atlantis Banjo: Highest velocity adds slides up to note. Notes below E0 play chordal rolls, string slides.
Bluesy Acoustic:  Mod wheel combined with highest velocity: Low position adds slide up to note, – Mid position adds blue note slides,
Dobro Slide, Swamp Dobro: Higher velocities increase vibrato; highest velocity add slides. Notes below E0 play body taps, slides, and other instrument sounds.
Dobro Chords: Each note plays a chord or interval, some with slides up to the chord.
    Jam Pack: World Music Instruments:
Latin Baby Bass: • Highest velocity adds slide up to note.
Russian Balalaika: Highest velocity adds slide up to note.
    Jam Pack 1:
Roundback Acoustic Guitar: Highest velocity adds slide up to note.
Not all articulations seem to have survived the transit to Mt. Lion, but if you have the Jam Packs, try it. I am away away from my GB installation right now, so I cannot try it. sorry.

  • How do you make a layer transparent?

I know this probably should be obvious, but I can't figure it out.  I have a .psd doc with a photo that has a lovely frame around it.  I want to make the area where the photo is transparent so I can use the frame for other photos.  When I bring the opacity down, the background is white, not transparent.  Same when I use the eraser.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The background is not a layer.  It is the background.  There is a subtle difference.
Make the image into a layer by double clicking the Background in the Layers palette.  Then it will be made into a layer and you'll be able to make parts of it transparent, to where you can see the checkerboard (indicating transparency).
A transparent layer only allows you to "see through" to the layer(s) or background underneath.  Make the background and/or lower layers invisible (click the eyeball icon) or delete them to be able to see the checkerboard pattern through the transparency of the layer above.
If you're trying to make a frame you can paste over other images, select the photo and delete the image out of the inside.  Delete all other layers in the image, and save as Frame.psd or something.  Then later you can open that image, copy the layer, and paste it over other images.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do you duplicate a layer and then change its adjustment layer?

This used to be easy in PS7, but it's evasive in CS4. We occasionally need to duplicate a layer and then change the adjustment layer. For instance, we might have selected a section of an image and used brightness contrast and then need to create a new layer using the same section using selective color. What we have done in the past is duplicate the layer and then change the adjustment layer. Any ideas?

    You're great!
Thanks a million, we've been struggling with this for at least a year.

  • How do you make a layer/image a gradiant of opaque to transparent?

I want to learn a way to make and image transition from opaque to transparent.
I've seen it in advertisements shown as something that resembles a reflection.
I only have CS2, so bare with me.
Thank you to anyone who understands and can help.

    YOU ARE AMAZING!
    I love you.
I've pondered that for months after I saw this cigarette ad. It's kept me up at night!
See, I've self taught myself Photoshop ever since I was 14, and I'm just now messing around with masks.
They're difficult, but I think you just opened so many doors in my brain on what I can do with masks now.
    Thank you so very much!

  • How do you find the size of a current layer so you can make other layers the same size

When I have an PSD icon set and I want to size a layer to a size that looks good.  How do I see the dimentions of that layer so that I can select another layer and make it the same size.

well that's my point Chris.  I have a PSD that has 150 icons in it.  I want to take 5 of them and make them the same size 300 x 300 from the 180 that they are.
If I select one and then press Apple T, I can see that it is 180 x 180 in the info window.  I can then go to the transform bar at the top where it says 100% x 100% and type in 180px then 180px in the other.

Then repeat for the other 4 layers.  Is this the correct way (easiest?)  How do you replace the layer after duplicating it.
