  • How can i stop iTunes from Auto rating my songs??

How can i stop iTunes from auto rating my songs in my library?? I have my library very organized and 90% of the time when i listen to music i play "My Top Rated" Playlist on shuffle. The only time i give stars ratings to my songs is for my favourite songs which i give 5 star and every other song is just left with no stars. For some reason iTunes is giving songs i have never played or i dont like 5 Stars and rewining my playlists. I have tried erasing all the stars from my entire library and since doing this a week ago, again (for the 4th time in a year) having a library with not 1 song with any star ratings, all of a sudden i now have 329 random songs with 5 stars again??????
This is really getting to me as i love my music and love iTunes and everything apple but seriously there has to be away to stop this so i can have my old playlists back!
Thanks hope some one can help

One reason itunes will start "at regular intervals" will be if you have an iphone that has sync via wifi enabled. I had the problem following an upgrade to iOS 5.

  • How do I stop iTunes from auto-launching when connecting iPod.

I have found one method of doing this set out below.
You may want to stop iTunes from auto-launching whenever you plug in your iPod. To do this, open iTunes, and select the iPod in the left-hand Source window. Four buttons will then appear in the lower right-hand corner of the iTunes window. Click the left-most button with the iPod icon on it. This will bring up the iPod Preferences dialog. Uncheck the option labeled "Open iTunes when attached." You probably also want to prevent iTunes from trying to automatically synchronize your iPod when you connect by selecting the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option in the same Preferences dialog.
I am unable to find the iPod icon in the left hand Source window, maybe if I connect my iPod an icon will appear, but I don't want to do this in case stuff is transferred between the iPod and Comp or vice versa.
Sorry to be so long winded, but it was difficult to explain without being so.
If any one knows of another way to do what I am trying to do
Perhaps they would let me know.
    ASP   Windows XP Pro

okay. in a 7.0.x, we no longer get the "ipod options" icon when the ipod is plugged in and selected in the sourcelist (the area to the left of the iTunes screen). instead, the ipod options and preferences display for us in the main library screen.
"Open iTunes when this ipod is connected" is kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab. (scroll down to the bottom of that tab to see everything under the "Options" heading.)
"manually manage music" (or "manually manage music and videos" if you've got a video-capable ipod) is also kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab in the Options area.
for a technique for connecting the ipod without automatically syncing (if you have an automatic syncing option set on the ipod already), and then changing the options to "manually manage music", see:
How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
unfortunately, that document is also written for itunes 6.0.x or earlier. so in your case the instructions under the "Now that you're logged in as the Guest user, it's time to get back to iTunes and your iPod:" section at steps 4, 5 and 6 should read:
    4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Summary Tab
    5. Check the "Manually manage music" checkbox.
    6. Click "Apply".

  • HT4753 How do you stop preview from auto save

How do you stop preview from doing AutoSave?
Preivew keeps saving different copies of a pdf I am working on (highlighting/annotating), and I now only have 1GB left on my harddrive (had 180GB left).

If you are using Safari, look at Safari > Preferences > General and make sure 'Open "safe" files after downloading' is not checked.  Other browsers should have a similar setting in their preferences.

  • Help - how do I stop Itunes from auto update

I have just deleted everything from my Itunes. How do I stop Ipod from being updated by Itunes automatically (it's now blank except for 2 new songs I just bought. My Ipod has over 1000 songs on it and I don't want it all to be erased by updating it to a blank Itunes library!!
    Thanks

How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
    Another Easier Alternative:
While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys in Windows (CMD + Option keys on a Mac). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes. The iPod will then appear in the iTunes source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto-sync and then you can release the keys. This action may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You can then ‘right-click‘ on the iPod icon in iTunes’ source column and select iPod Options, then check the box that says “Manually manage songs and playlists”. You can now manage your library without losing any songs on the iPod.
    If connecting to a
    i different computer
than the ‘iPod’s Home Computer’, iTunes will ask you if you want to update your iPod and give you an opportunity to opt out. This will not happen if you connect to the ‘Home’ computer – iTunes will auto-sync without warning!. Best to know the difference.
    Then: Transfer music manually

  • HOW DO YOU STOP ITUNES FROM WRITING COMMENTS IN YOUR ID TAGS!! ARGH!

I use a program to manage my id tags. I used to never use the tags, but now I have it so that the program reads in all files form a directory and edits the ID tags to only put artist - title. that's all the information i ever store. BUT, whenever you put songs into itunes and sync, itunes decides to write random, what looks like binary?, information into the comments section of your id tags. Is there a way to stop itunes from doing this?

Are you using mp3gain? Or the Sound Check function in
iTunes. Sometimes, mp3gain will write strings of
number to the comments field. I think it can happen
with Soundcheck as well. Personally, I've never had
iTunes write anything to the comments field but I
don't use either of the above.
I use MP3Gain all the time - it doesn't do this. This kinda sounds like a mismatch between what tag version are written in both programs. Make sure they both match, and I bet your problem goes away.
I use 4 different progams to edit tag info, depending on what I want to do, and I don't ever see this kind of thing. I never use all 4 on the same file, I usually use one that does batch tagging and then I use TagScanner to fine-tune. I run MP3Gain on everything.

  • How do you stop itunes from reconizing my iphone?

I am trying to backup my mom's iPhone and iTunes in not letting me download all the content. So I uninstalled ITunes and reinstalled it. I hooked up my mom's cell phone only to find out that it is still being recognized by iTunes.

What exactly happens when you are trying to backup and copy content from the phone to that computer's iTunes, and if you want to back it up to that iTunes I'm not sure why you want iTunes not to recognise the phone ?
To copy any iTunes downloads over to that computer's iTunes library you will need the iTunes account(s) that downloaded them authorised on that iTunes (Store > Authorise This Computer menu option) - no iTunes download (nor the contents of the Music and Videos apps) are included in a backup, a restore would look to pick them up from the iTunes library. If that isn't the computer that the phone is synced to then go into Edit > Preferences and on the Devices tab tick the 'prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically' tickbox.

  • How do you stop ITunes from syncing automatically every time I attach a device?

I have the option box checked that is supposed to stop devices from syncing automatically, yet ITunes STILL insists on syncing the devices automatically and overwriting gigabytes of data.  I've had to spend hours finding everything again after ITunes has synced when I don't want it to.  Needless to say, this is INCREDIBLY frustrating.

I no longer need an answer to this question. I didn't directly solve the problem but it solved when I was fixing something else.

  • How do you stop itunes from backing up when trying to update software?

I have itunes 10.5 and I'm trying to download the new IOS5 software to my iphone. I keep getting an error message saying there is not enough space to backup, but itunes backups anyway and then all the space ends up running out and I have to do a system restore. I'm on windows xp and I want to find a way to stop the backup process completely. Any ideas?

    iTunes does no such thing.
The dropbox app on the device has such a feature, turn it off.

  • How do you stop itunes from changing the playlist window when new song comes on? It is the worst feature of this program!

I will be browsing in letter P and playing in letter B and then get kicked back to B on the next song. Why wont it just stay at P!!!!?  This is a useless feature I have been dealing with for a decade now.
I cant figure it out. I hates it! Why do they have this? Why!!!!?????

There's several ways to browse to overcome this in certain configurations but they are finicky to describe and they don't get around what you are seeing in a general browse the whole library mode.  It's the way iTunes is designed.
Complain to Apple.  Don't hold your breath.

  • How do I stop Itunes from automatically starting?

Itunes automatically turns on when the computer is powered up, but Itunes is not in the startup folder.
How do I stop Itunes from auto starting?

10 minutes later: iTunes will not startup if the iPod is not plugged in upon boot up. If the system sees the iPod plugged in upon boot, then system will start. This seems to be done with the help of iTuneshelper.exe and /or iPodService.exe. if you don’t want iTunes to start automatically when the system boots do not have your iPod plugged in. if you want to be able to keep the iPod plugged in then you are going to have to msconfig at the start run command and stop the iTuneshelper.exe in the startup service area. This should stop the iTunes from starting up when the unit is plugged in and you are booting up. Sorry for the long sentences but thats a possiable fix, enjoy.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing the songs I download?

I usually end up deleting a bunch of songs, but iTunes is automatically importing/adding the songs I download which then creates a lot of missing file links. How do I stop iTunes from doing that, I just want to be able to add them manually by folders.

    I'm having a similar problem.
When I download songs via my MobileMe "iDisk" webpage, it will automatically end up in iTunes and starts playing. I set up my iDisk settings to place my downloads on my desktop, which it does, just fine.
Nonetheless iTunes ALWAYS wanting to be part of it, is really annoying.
I just DON'T want iTunes to start up, just because a download finished. I add songs manually myself when I want it.
    Any advise ?? Thanks

  • In iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed?

in iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed.

Short answer: They are not resizing, there is no quality lost. The dpi is only set when you decide what size you're printing at
Longer answer:  Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • How do I stop itunes from corrupting it's library on almost a daily basis?

How do I stop itunes from corrupting it's library on almost a daily basis?  It's actually becoming infurating to use, and what's happening is I am losing my downloads since the last automated itunes backup (having to rename & replace the current corrupted library with the last backup which is usually a day or two old).  What can cause this?  Is there ANY alternative to using itunes for Apps (which is the sole use I have for it)?   If not, APPLE PLEASE REMOVE THE NEED FOR THE DATABASE SO IT DOESN'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO CORRUPT ITSELF...  :'(

Things you see in iTunes are stored in various sub folders in your main iTunes folder as in:
Image of folder structure and explanation of different iTunes versions (turingtest2 post) - https://discussions.apple.com/message/13025536 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/17457605
Start iTunes and immediately hold down the option key.  Create a new library somewhere.  Go to your old iTunes folder and drag items to the window for the new library.  Maybe only grab a folder or part of one at a time.  It will copy these items to the new library (so you need lots of extra room on your computer).
