How do you sync your old library to a new laptop?

Hi, Im currently using a new laptop and wanted to know how can I sync the library I had in the previous one to the new one. When I connect the ipod to the new one, I get a message that says that my Ipod is connected to a different library or something like that and if I choose to sync the content of my Ipod will be deleted. So I hope anybody can help me to get the content of my ipod on the new computer. Thanks!

The music sync is one way -computer to ipod.
You need to copy everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old computer, to the new one.

You can sync with one and only one computer at a time. Sycning to another will indeed erase the content from the ipod and replace with content from the new computer.
You should copy everything from the old computer to the new one.

Any photos on your phone that are not in camera roll or photostream... if you lost those pictures with the computer crash I would take screen shots (lock button + home button at the same time) of each photo so they show up in the camera roll. App data may or may not be lost. In my experience, it depends on the app. Some of the apps recognize your apple ID and sync data over the internet with servers, some do not. I would take note of important data (such as passwords in a password keeper if you have such an app) just in case if you lose that data.

If you network your two computers together, you can transfer the song files directly, without having to use a flash drive in between. You may also want to consider getting a backup drive. You can get lots of space for not so much money these days, and with an automatic backup system, it can really save your bacon if your computer goes down, which is an additional benefit to just transferring files from one computer to another.

as long as you do not have copies of your music (i.e. on an external HDD) or iTunes Match I fear the answer is: you won't.

When syncing you receive a warning that you are about to remove all content from your iphone (device)!!! I don't/can't have this happen!! I have the music and calenders etc on iCloud but the Apps don't get stored there (as far as I'm aware).
Should I de-register the old PC first? Will that then signal iTunes that this is OK to syc the apps with the new??

I am sorry to ask this lame question, but: How do you copy your iPhoto library to an external hard drive, just to back it up? I'm confused, because of three things: a) I can't seem to find, in iPhoto pref's, where you select what the "path" is to the library; b) in the iPhoto library folder on my computer (which is NOT on my boot drive, but a different internal drive..) the newest "year" folder in there says 2005, yet we have imported many newly-taken photos for the last 3 years, AND c) in the user>Pictures folder there is a "file" called iPhoto Library, but I can't quite figure out exactly what that is, what it does, etc.
So, I apologize, but if someone can help me figure what I would like to think should be a very simple backup, I would be grateful. Thank you very much.

There not one - you change the path by launching iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and using the select library option to repoint to a different libary - however you would not do this to a backup library - it would just be a copy

That probably is your iPhoto library and it is probably not a file but a Unix style "package"
Launch iPhoto and in events view select a photo and right click (control click) on it and select the show file option to see the path to the currently active library - I find the column view the easiest to see the path

Let's say, I have an Iphone 3GS and it was synced to my older pc (I know...) and it crashed and I can't retrieve my files on there. I want everything that I have on my 3Gs: photos, videos, music, notes, voice recordings, etc... Now, I recently upgraded to 4Gs. I can sync almost everything via icloud but there are files like photos, videos, other music that I cannot sync or for some weird reason it won't work over the cloud. So I want to move all of those information to my macbook pro (upgraded from pc... yes!). How do I move everything in my iphone backed up to my itunes in my mac book so that I can sync it to my new 4Gs?

Typically iCloud and iTunes only save the latest backup. In reality, when you subsequently backup, the last backup is modified with the changes and you only have one backup. The except seems to be if you restore from backup it appears that that backup is retained.
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Manage Storage and to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if more than one backup is listed.
