How do you transfer Picasa for PC to IPhoto or Picasa for MAC and keep edits?

I have thousands of photos on my PC and would like to get them onto my IMac in an edited form. When I try to import to IPhoto, I get duplicates. I am unable to export from Picasa for PC and import into Picas for MAC, as it is grayed out.

What duplicates do you get if you import to iPhoto? What are you importing, where from?
I'm afraid for help with Picasa you're best to go to Google's forums. They folks who know that app best will be there.

  • How to partition my drive for  Mac and XP use?  from a novice

I would like to use my MacBook Pro for both Mac ad PC programs (Office and others) and hear that I can partition the drive.  How is the best way to do that?  Also I have an external Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external drive to set up that supposedly can back up both Mac and PC without formatting each time.  Do I have to partition the drive first?  Do I use Time Machine?

Is it your intent to run Windows programs on your computer?  If so then this is more than simply a partitioning exercise.
In order to use an external drive on both Macs and PCs there are two options.  Option One is to partition and format the drive MBP and FAT32, respectively.  OS X can read/write a FAT32 formatted drive.  However, due to filesystem differences some features of the OS X filesystem are not supported by FAT32, so FAT32 is not the best choice for transferring OS X documents, but would be fine for transferring Windows documents.
Option Two is to partition the drive using GUID then creating two partitions.  One partition is formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled and the other partition is formatted FAT32.  Each partition can be used for the data from the appropriate platform.
TM is not a file transfer program, cannot be used for Windows documents, and does not work on Windows.
If you wish to run Windows on your Mac then see the following:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows. You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • How to divide time capsule for Mac and PC back up

Want to know if a cant use my time capsule to do back up for my MacBook and do manual back up for the PC of my wife

How to divide time capsule for Mac and PC back up
It is not possible to divide or "partition" the Time Capsule disk......unless you pull the hard drive from the Time Capsule (which voids the warranty), place it in a separate enclosure or caddy, connect the enclosure directly to your Mac, and use Disk Utility to partition the disk. Then, you must reinstall the disk back in the Time Capsule.
This is a lot of work....best done by an experienced technician. The operation will likely cost more than the cost of the Time Capsule.
Life would be tons easier if you used the Time Capsule with your MacBook and added a separate USB drive to the PC.
If you do not need to divide or partition the Time Capsule storage space, and you are willing to have the Mac and PC share the same space, take a look at an application like Macrium Reflect to backup the PC to the Time Capsule disk.
Still, having done this in the past, things would be much faster and easier for you if you use a separate USB drive for the PC.

  • HT3500 how do you transfer data from an external hard drive to a mac time capsule

I am trying to use my Mac Time Capsule as a wireless external hard drive for my MacBook Pro, so how do I transfer the data from a toshiba external hard drive, to my Mac Time Capsule?

Drag and drop or copy and paste files just as you would do with any normal Finder operation.
The Time Capsule is located under the SHARED heading in the Finder.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and double click the folder that appears representing the drive....named Data....unless you have changed the name......to mount the drive on the desktop.
Drag/drop or copy/paste files to the icon on the desktop or to the open window there.

  • How do I transfer photos for Mac OS X

I love Mac OS 9.2.2 Classic so much that I hate to stop using it. However, so many new stuff is no longer easy for me to use Mac OS 9, at the same time, I have already advanced into Mac OS 10.4.11, 10.5.7, and 10.6.x. I would say Mac OS 10.4.11 has been the best ones, wit which I can have the permission repaired perfectly. But, Mac OS 10.4.11 is getting slow lately. Okay, make my story short. I want to transfer all the documents especially photos in jpg to Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6. How am I supposed to do to safely accomplish the job? I have no problem with the documents with MS Office and PDF.
    Thank you very much.
    Robert

I am not familiar with the Photodeluxe program, the source of the pictures you have, etc. On thing to bear in mind is different file formats store different quality. Check the size of the files you are converting. If they are, say, 10 MB each and the resulting jpeg is 500kb then you are probably losing quality somewhere and you may want to save to a different format such as TIFF or PICT.

  • How do you export Outlook for Mac 2011 Contacts to iCloud?

Since I've recently become an ex-Outlook Exchange user, I'd like to have all my contacts reside in iCloud to support all my iOS devices. I've seen numerous workarounds and patches (e.g. Sperry Software) and all seem awkward and complicated. I have to believe their is a definitive and well thought out solution for this. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Outlook 2011 for Mac is not compatible with iCloud, Microsoft elected to remove the DAV services (present in Outlook 2010 for Windows) from the Mac version, thus leaving them with a Windows version of Outlook that is compatible with iCloud, and a Mac version that is not.

  • How to create print sharing for Mac and PC computers

Hello~ I hope someone can answer these questions... Thanks!
We are a small design office. We have trouble printing recently after we upgrade our Mac OSX v10.4.
    We have:
2 PC computers (Window XP Home Edition)
    1 Power Mac G4
    1 Power Mac G5
    1 PowerBook G4
1 Epson Stylus Pro 4000 large format printer
    1 hp laserjet 3030 fax/copier/printer
We used to transfer the PC files to the server and print from Mac. We were able to print with 'shared printer' if one Mac computer is connected to the printer. After we upgraded 1 Power Mac G4 to OSX v10.4, we can no longer use the 'shared printer' for the other Mac computers. We cannot find the printer under 'shared printer' in the Adobe application, such as Illustrator and Photoshop.
We would like to set up the print sharing system that both Mac and PC computers can send files to the prints without putting files to the server or switching the printers. Can anyone help please? Many thanks!

There are a couple of disadvantages with formatting a
disk as FAT32. Firstly, there is a limit on the file
size for FAT32. I think it like 2 GB so if you
capturing video the results will probably not fit
into this file limit. Secondly FAT32 will not be
bootable. I alway clone my system to a backup disk as
bootable. That way if anything goes wrong with my
system, I can just boot from my backup disk and fix
    it.
The problem with doing this though is that the drive will not be usable with Windows (which was in the original posting) unless you use the third party MacDrive software on the PC.

  • How do you find security for mac computer, iphone.&ipad?

I understand from Kim Komando mac"s  are vunerable to virus's and malware. She stated awhile back that when mac's reached 15% of the market they would be under attack.  Also I think I read on her site that 600 thousand mac computers were attacked recently. Also iphones and ipads could be attacked.  Any one can read her messageboard but you have to be a member to ask questions.www.komando.com/messageboard.  and scroll down to macs........I am asking this because when reading in the support communities I saw an old conversation saying macs would not be attacked by virus's etc and do not need security protection. and I beleive that is wrong information...Does anyone know for sure??????? There are no know viruses for OSX.  This is from the horses mouth - APPLE!
Check out User Tip:   Viruses, Trojans, Malware - and other aspects of Internet Security and http://www.thesafemac.com/mmgMac Malware Guide.
    ===================
    Viruses:
Are programs that earn their name by their ability to replicate themselves locally & often across a network.  Many attach themselves to to other programs.  When you launch one of these programs, the virus code launches as well & the virus goes about its nefarious business.
Viruses are exceedingly rare on the Mac.  There are no known viruses for OSX.
    Trojans:
Promises one thing but delivers another.  You can download a program but when you run the program, the contents of your computer are instead beamed to an underground data center in Kamchatka.  If you obtain software from reliable sites, you are unlikely to get a Trojan horse.
    Adware:
Has an embedded advertising component - one that displays or downloads ads when you run the software.  Some adware is legitimate, part of the price of using a free program such as the Iconfactory's Twitterrific or Eudora for example.
    Spyware:
Grabs data from your computer & ofen uses it for the purposes of evil, sending personal info to a baddie or when you're using your web browser, redirecting you to site you don't want to visit.
Mac users have nothing to worry about regarding Spyware & Adware because in order for the worse forms to work, the OS must allow unrestricted access to its more sensitive parts.  The Mac OS doesn't.

  • How can you download windows for mac

I found bunches of videos one which was really good by technobufallo but i still don't know how to do it

You can't download Windows, you have to buy a retail disk (not an install disk that came with a PC).
You can use either Boot Camp or a third-party solution such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox to install and use the Windows partition. Boot Camp support/instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
(Edited:) In Lion, Boot Camp only supports Windows 7. Older versions of Windows should work with the other solutions I mentioned.
