How do you "un" max out a graphics card?

Motion is giving me technocolor mess of colors. It may be because of graphics card being maxed out. What is the solution. I can't swap the card out, it's an iMac. Is the card wrecked?

  • How can you tell if your video/graphics card is failing?

    I have been playing World of Warcraft for over 7 months now (insert geek jokes here), and I have never experienced the problems that I have been experiencing with WoW this weekend.
    I was hoping that it was just a connection/internet issue with WoW, but when i play on my laptop (and older Powerbook G4), screen loads aren't slow like they are on my Intel iMac.
    Yesterday and today have been horrible. I'll get disconnected at least 4-5 times (which NEVER happens) and when I am finally logged into my account for game play, it's horrible lag. And even then, it takes a while for the background or other characters to load.
    I'm worried that it's my video/graphics card and might be failing. How would I know if this was the case?
    I am still hoping it's just a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with my card. But I don't know at this point.
    I'm very frustrated.
    Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Suzanne

    Wow, ok, sounds like you are on the exact same path that I'm on. I'm a WOW player also, have had my iMac since 2008 (and play wow alot, raiding, etc) and recently it fried it's graphics card. I just replied to your thread about HDDs... so please see that response.
    I'm convinced it's a heat issue and I have a feeling the latest OSX update may have changed something about the fan speed that caused extra heat to build up. Just a theory.
    Anyway, your options are very limited for "fixing" a screwed up graphics card. Hopefully you have AppleCare, otherwise you're looking at ~$500 to fix this.
    I'm not going to bother. Just bought a new monitor and graphics card for my 4y.o. Windows machine and will be using that from now on. I'll miss the Apple display and the operating system, but the hardware doesn't make me happy at all.
    Good luck!

    Contact Apple and see if they can provide any documentation of the device swap.

  • TS2083 How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed?

    How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed? My MacBook Pro does not provide a connectivity to TV via HDMI.

    You can go to <http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro> find your Mac's technical specs.
    Depending on what kind of video output port you have, you should be able to get an adapter to HDMI.  For example a Mini Display Port to HDMI (I have one of these).

    Thanks Diggie, your response was very close.  I clicked on the email several times.  It came up and gave me the option to Send.  I clicked Send and my recipients received the email.
    I did not have to delete and reinstall my email account.
    Have a good day.

  • HT201270 How do you avoid timed-out?

    1.Where are the updates stored?
    2. How to you avoid timed-out session if you don't have wifi access?

    I suspect it has something to do with your network settings on your PC. I'd recommend calling AppleCare right away. you have 90 days of free AppleCare telelphone support, they can help walk you through the process. Also if you haven't already i'd strongly recommend Pondini's guide to using Migration Assistant. You can locate it by clicking:

  • HT1918 How do you solve an issue with the card? I don't get the option of 'none' :(

    How do you solve an issue with the card? I don't get the option of 'none'

    I had this exact same problem with the new iPhone I bought on 1/4/13. The walk through they provide on how to do this is useless because it fails to explain that if you are already having the problem of not getting the "None" payment option with an Apple ID then you will need to create a completely new Apple ID.
    I had to do this 7 times since I bought my iPhone on Friday until this morning to figure out how to finally be able to use the Home Sharing option in iTunes to put my music collection on my brand new $500.00 iPhone. Pretty pathetic if you ask me but since it made me so angry I want to make sure other know how to do this so you don't get as upset as I did.
    #1 If your current or soon to be "old" Apple ID is not providing the option for "None" as a payment option then you need to make a brand new one. But you have to make it specifically how I tell you.
    #2 You will need to use an email address that has not already been used for anything related to a previous Apple ID. You might need to make a brand new email address.
    #3 Open iTunes, then open iTunes Store (upper right corner of iTunes).
    #4 Click on App Store (upper center of screen).
    #5 Scroll down the screen page until you see Top Free Apps on the right side.
    #6 Choose any one of the FREE apps.
    #7 You should either get the option to create a new Apple ID box, either that, or it will pop up with some kind of disclaimer and then it does the create new Apple ID.
    Either way just create a new Apple ID when it gives you the option to and then when you get to the page that looks like the payment page the "None" payment option will finally be available.
    Note: You will still have to fill out the information on the payment page. As long as you choose the "None" option it will not request any credit card information.
    #8 You will be sent a confirmation email to the new email account. Just follow through with what ever it tells you and viola now you can use your Apple Device.
    What a pain in the keester, eh?

  • W530 - How does things work when having two graphics cards?

    So I have a W530 with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a NVIDIA Quadro K2000M.
    How does things work when the computer has two graphics cards? I mean, is only one active at a time? Or is one doing complex calculations while the other one might be the one displaying them on the screen?
    Related question:
    I just bought and installed the game Portal 2. How do I know if it is using the better graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro K2000M)? And if it is not, how do I configure Windows, Steam or Portal 2 to use it to its full potential?

    Technically, the Intel integrated graphics is always active, although it is not always in use. Nvidia graphics will turn on and off according to need. Software from Nvidia called Optimus automatically switches between integrated (Intel) and dedicated (Nvidia) graphics, according to the application. Portal 2 will run smoothly at maximum settings and native 1920x1080 resolution using the K2000M. The easiest way to see which graphics card is in use is to check the "Display GPU activity icon in notification area" option in the Desktop menu of the Nvidia control panel. It should automatically use the Nvidia graphics card when Steam is running. If it does not, you can add Steam to the program settings in Nvidia control panel and select that it should always use the Nvidia graphics.
    Also, if you are using an external monitor and the notebook monitor, then you will be using both graphics cards - the Intel graphics will drive the notebook screen and the Nvidia card will power the external display(s).

  • How do you get around needing a credit card for setting up family sharing?

    How do you get around needing a credit card for setting up family sharing?

    khuerter wrote:
    I appreciate the replies about needing to setup a credit card for agreeing to pay for purchases and letting someone else be the Family Organizer.  The purpose of my question is to know if there is a way around apples requirement to have a valid payment method on file...we have money in our apple account (use iTunes gift cards) and I do not want to store my CC info at apple.  It seems like very odd that money in your account would not be enough to setup Family Sharing.
    Very frustrating and just about ready to get rid of all the 15 apple products we currently have.
    Khuerter,
    Having a credit card when you set up as Family Organizer is a legal requirement to prove that you are taking financial responsibility for the others on the account.  As Gail noted, there is not a way around that.
    Once the account is set up, the Family Organizer can remove the credit card and replace it by a debit card.

  • How do you change system.out.println colour?

    Hi, I am developing some basic rmi client/server applications, I have an 2D array on a central server being read/written by remote clients. all the development is using system.out. statements at the moment (hopefully being replaced by GUI later) my question is when a client remote calls a read operation, and reads an array location, eg x3, y4 I want to print the location contents in a different colour to indicate the read, at the moment the displayArray() simply has nested for loops to cycle through the array and System.out.println statements to get it to the screen. I wonder is there a simple way to change the colour of system.out type statements? thanks for any help

    I could be wrong, but I don't think that is possible. The System.out and other streams are just streams of characters, and doesn't contain any data about the characters. You could possibly get it to work if you knew which terminal the stream was going to and if the terminal had escape commands that could set colors. BBS browsers have that functionality, but I think that would be a hard path to follow.
    If you are printing out a lot of data and need some color to aid it's readability, try printing directly to your graphic context:
    Graphics g = getGraphics();
    g.setColor(Color.white);
    g.drawString("Hello",100,100);

  • Try-catch blocks.  How do you get variables out?

    Hey guys,
    I have several try-catch blocks around potential NumberFormatException's. Well the variables and values given inside the try-catch block can not be used outisde, so how do i get them out or use them outside this block.
    Is there a way to kind of pass it out, or to take the variable outside the try-catch block?
    Gary.

    Declare the variable before the try block:
    public void foo(String number) {
    int i; // Unknown
    try {
    i = Integer.parseInt(number);
    } catch( NumberFormatException e ) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println(i);
    variable i might not have been initialized
                   System.out.println(i);
                                      ^
    Or declare the method as throwing the exception so
    that you don't have to handle it directly
    public void foo(String number)
    throws NumberFormatException
    i = Integer.parseInt(number);
    System.out.println(i);
    }Not the best example, in this case. But it works for some things.
    Or make use of the variable within the try block so
    that you limit its scope to the degree possible
    public void foo(String number) {
    try {
    i = Integer.parseInt(number);
    System.out.println(i);
    } catch( NumberFormatException e ) {
    e.printStackTraceException();
    }Definitely missed declaring i, but I like this one best ;~)
    Each has its benefits. Depends what sort of method
    you're writing - if failure of the try block causes
    the whole method to fail, don't try to handle the
    exception locally, put the throws in the signature. ~Cheers

  • How do you asign SPDIF OUT! via WMP11

    In powerdvd7 it works you select spdif out via there options, doesnt always work with other sourced media like it did on xp but it works on standard dvds.
    Now in WMP i have to fiddle around to get spdif out working it wont work the same way as xp does.
    see in vista you have 2 sound sources...

    i have to keep flicking the sound source to spdif if i want spdif out via wmp and if i do that windows sounds dont come out of my speakers lol and also no sound comes out of my headset unless im running in speakers mode.
    this needs addressed ASAP... a freaking priority.

  • How to Update the driver of your graphics card

    When I open Photoshop CC, I get this message:
    "3D features require a minimum of 512MB of vRAM. Photoshop has detected less than that on your system. Updating the driver of your graphics card may resolve the issue."
    I went to the website they recommended but found nothing about this. How can I determine if this is the problem? How do I find out how much vRAM I have? How do I update the driver of my graphics card?

    You cannot upgrade the GPU except by buying a newer model with a better GPU. Normally, with shared RAM the GPU will have a maximum of 384 MBs of VRAM with 4 GBs of installed RAM. That will increase by about 128 MBs per 2 GBs of additional installed RAM.
