How do you Uninstall Programs with Mac OS

I know this sounds like a simply question but its not as easy as windows, is there like an uninstall section on the tiger OS ?

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
AppZapper
CleanApp
Yank
SuperPop
Uninstaller
Spring Cleaning
Look for them at www.versiontracker.com or www.mackupdate.com.

  • How do you uninstall Free Zip Mac?

I use Mavericks OS X 10.9.3.  How do you uninstall "Free Zip Mac?"

Probably you can simply trash it (see my reply in your Ez7z topic).
There is however a chance that during the installation 'Free Zip Mac' some annoying adware was installed. If you see any unusual behavior in your browser(s), check this: http://www.thesafemac.com/arg/

  • How do you uninstall programs?

This is my first time using a Mac, so I'm still learning how everything works. It took me a while to discover you had to drag programs to the "Applications" folder to install them.
How would I uninstall a program? Is it a simple matter of dragging the program to the "Trash", or is it more involved like it is on Windows?

For a few applications, to completely eradicate them you can do spotlight searches to find helper applications associated with the app you're trying to fully delete. For instance, if you want to get rid of Photoshop, there are a few of updater programs and internet plugin files that are associated with photoshop that you'll have to search for (or find some other way) and uninstall. Luckily, most apps bundle the helper programs in them (such as iTunes and the iTunesHelper app) so if you delete the main application, all the others go with it. I love that OS X can have very complex applications all wrapped up in one package instead of requiring uninstallers. However, for system enhancing utilities (preference panes, etc) the apps have to bury plugins and extensions in the system folders, but as folks mentioned these usually come with uninstallers.

  • Uninstalling Programs on mac

HI...Im a new mac owner...so yah how do you Uninstall programs on a Mac?...Meaning where in finder do you go to do it?

You simply drag applications to the trash. Sometimes more 'complicated' applications such as Office 2004 have an uninstaller which are found in its associated application folder.
There is also third party software available to make sure every component is removed, such as:
    AppZapper: http://appzapper.com/

  • Uninstall programs on Mac

Hello! How do I uninstall programs on Mac?

    1. Does the application have an Uninstaller? If so, use that.
    2. Otherwise, find the app in the Applications Folder and drag it to the trash.
That will get almost all of most apps.
You can also check the Library/Application support for a folder and trash that, and also the Preferences Folders for the tiny pref files.
But really, between 1 and 2 you get 99%.

Question:  Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions! If so what would you recommend? Was looking at Sophos. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions!
You will continue to hear different opinions here, where thoughts range everywhere between "anti-virus software is the evil spawn of Satan" to "anyone not running anti-virus software is a fool."
Truth is, this is still a very personal decision on a Mac. Depending on circumstances, it is still very easily possible to stay safe without using anti-virus software, but circumstances and personal preferences vary widely. Besides which, anti-virus software cannot even remotely provide you a guarantee of protection!
To learn how to stay safe (with or without anti-virus software), and how to decide whether to use anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.

Used to highlight just the portion of an article that I wanted to print and press print selection only.  How do you do that with a MAC?

Depends to some extent what application you're printing from, and what printer you're using, but here's the dialogue box for ⌘P in Firefox -
Note the option to print selection only.
Haven't looked before, but I can't find anything similar in Pages print options.
It does appear in Word though.
