How do you update to mountain lion free if you buy a mac today?
I don't know if it was announced today or not
On the Apple Website this appears:
Seems quite clear to me, the upgrade to Mountain Lion on a Mac bought on or after today will be free.

How to apply update to mountain lion for free
I bought a new Macbook Pro after WWDC. it said that I can update for free, but must send a request within 30 days."Customers must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchasing their Mac computer." so...

I am currently running OS X version 10.5.8 how did I update to Mountain Lion
I am currently running OS X version 10.5.8 how did I update to the current version of Mountain Lion?
Lion and Mountain Lion are largely sold by download through the Mac App Store.
In order to download, you need 10.6.6 or better. You can arrange to purchase a 10.6 DVD, which can then be updated to 10.6.6 or 10.6.8, by CALLing the Apple Online Store. It cannot be ordered over the Internet.
If you prefer, they were selling a 10.7 thumb drive, which may also be available over the phone ONLY.
You must have a Mac Pro 65lb tower from 2008 or later to run 10.8 Mountain Lion. -
How does one update to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard?
My friend has Snow Leopard and wants to up date to Mountain Lion, how is it possible for her?
See Here > Upgrade to Mountain Lion
Would Also Recommend that you do a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive Before attempting any Major Upgrade...
By far the easiest way to make a Backup, is to use something like
SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
or CCC http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade...
You will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)
Also, Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

please I need help accessing downloads that are avaialbe for software--I keep getting sent to a page to enter credit card info when I am trying to download free updates at the app store...
Part of stronger account security measures by Apple. If you want the update, free or not, you will need to comply. "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile!"

only had my macbook pro in july, how do I down load my free upgrade of mountain lion
You have to fill out the Up-To-Date form at the Apple website and wait for an email with a code in it to download ML for free.
Sorry don't have a link to that page so Google is your friend. -
Can I use my mountain lion free upgrade on all my macs?
Can I get confirmation from someone who tried and succeeded to upgrade his macs without paying a license ?
Once you have ML in your purchases tab at the App Store, you can download it and install it in your other Macs, provided they're yours, and for personal non-commercial use. You can read about this in full in the license agreement (About my Mac menu option, then click on License Agreement)
