On a 4 stroke engine, a hall effect sensor acts as a trigger to instigate the aquisition of data. Data is recorded from a pressure transducer on both the compression and exhaust cycle.

Biased Hall effect sensor and NI 9201 module. How can I calculate the velocity of an object?

For my final year project at university I have designed and built a drop tower for testing the energy dissipation performance of test pieces.
In the system I specified having a biased Hall effect sensor (gear tooth sensor) to calculate the speed of the impactor by having a serrated target (ferritic) moving past it.
The idea behind having a serrated target was to enable an average of several readings of time period to be taken, then to use this to divide the known length of the serrations to calculate speed.
The problem I am having is when using the time period measuring block in LV it only wants to measure the period of the first wave, is there any way I could get LV to measure all four periods (there are four serrations) and average them?

1. The NI 9201 has only analog inputs, so you have no other choices with that devices. I did not look it up before my earlier response. Something about the wording of your first post made me think you were measuring the period with a counter.
2. I am not sure which "time period measuring block" you are using. Please post your VI. Before you post it, run it with your Hall sensor so that you have some data recorded. Go to the Edit menu and choose Make Current Values Default." Save the VI. The indicators on your VI will then have your data saved. Post that VI.
3. I am assuming that you will get a signal which looks something like this, although not necessarily starting exactl at zero time or having exactly uniform spacing between the pulses.
Using some simple logic you can determine the time of the transitions between high and low. The differences between the times of successive transitions are your periods. For the image above the falling edges (going from +1 to -1) occur at about 64, 192, 320, and 448. The differences are 128 in each case. For your impact data the differences are likely to not all be the same as yout target decelerates.
After I see you VI, I can give some suggestions about how to proceed to calculate the differences.

Connecting Hall Effect Sensor as an encoder(feedback) for PCI 7356 Motion Controller

We have Labview 2010 and the following hardwares for testing a specific motor (a brushless DC motor):
NI PCI 7356 Motion Controller
NI UMI 7774
AKD Servo Drive P00606
However, I met some difficulty when wiring the motor to the motor drive(and controller). In the manual, it says PCI 7356 needs encoder signals as the feedback. But our motor doesn't have a built-in encoder. It has three Hall Effect Sensors, which we plan to use as an encoder. If we feed the hall sensor signals as the encoder phase signals (Phase A, B) to the drive/controller, I wonder if Labview or PCI 7356 (after an appropriate configuration) can adjuct the phase (from 120 degree to 90). Does it work even without the adjustment?
If the above doesn't work, can I feed only one Hall Effect sensor signal as Encoder Phase A and don't feed anything to Phase B (since I only need control the motor speed in one direction)? Will PCI 7356 or Labview recognize the signal and function accordingly?
If it doesn't work as well, could I use motor's Back EMF as a feedback (this motor produces a decent sinusoidal back EMF)? If I can, how should I configure the hardware and wire the motor to controller accordingly?
If all three above don't work, could you suggest a way to solve this problem?

Hey Chen,
I have comfirmed that the PCI card will not be able to do feedback with the hall effect sensors. However, you could do that with our NI 951x modules if you run it in FPGA mode. You would need an extra IO module to set up the hall effect sensors with, but you could effectively customize your control and your feedback on the FPGA board immediately.
For your other post, I am not sure you can create a time constraint on the move, I believe that when you define a motion, you would need to define the number of steps or the position and not the time. If you are running the motor at a specific velocity for an amount of time, you would need to set that as the number of revolutions and not time.

Measuring Digital Output from 3 Hall Effect Sensors

I'm working on a project where I need to map the digital signal coming from 3 hall effect sensors, plugged into the first three channels of a NI 9402 installed in a NI cDAQ-9172 chassis (slot 5). I've done plenty of analog signal measurements before but this is my first time trying to map a digital one. I'm trying to measure the signal at the fastest possible rate (20MHz is what NI 9402 is capable of) and I cannot get the signal to record in any way that I could analyze it. At this point all I'm looking for is a way to record the signal at 20MHz and look at a plot from the three sensors. We're essentially just checking how quickly the signals are being sent to the sensors, so I need to be able to record it and zoom in to see all the 1's and 0's.
I'm also doing this in signal express which may or may not be the whole problem. To me it seems like a simple task, so I assume I'm just missing something obvious. I got 3 digital signals, I want to record them at 20Mhz and then be able to look at the plots afterwards. I don't even want to really analyze them yet, just want to be able to zoom in and see the high's and low's from each sensor. The test I'm recording takes about 7-8 seconds. So far when I try this it looks like it reads the signal in the preview screen but if I try to look at the data afterwards there's nothing there to see. If anyone could point me in a direction to look or has an idea it would be extremely helpful. If more information is needed I can get it for the board. Thanks.

As Christopher says, it's a compilation. Different tracks are by different artists.
Setting the *Album Artist* field to *Various Artists* and setting *Part of a compilation* to Yes should be all that is required. Depending on your *Group compilations when browsing* setting ( I recommend On ) either should suffice but I suggest doing both.
Based on your commentary, I selected all the "O Brother" tracks, and checked the boxes for everything line that was blank in the Info and the Sort panes. Only exceptions were the album name and the disc number 1 of 1 and the artwork. I blanked and checked anything else.
That's not what I meant. When you select multiple tracks, only those values which +are already common+ to all tracks are displayed. Typically these will include Artist, though not with compilation albums, Album Artist, Album, No. of Tracks, Genre plus various sort fields. A blank value may indicate that different tracks have different values or it may be that the value is blank for all tracks. For the drop down values on the Options tab the value shown may not reflect the information in every tag. If values you expect to be common, such as Album Artist or the Album title are not displayed you can simply type these in and click OK. This will often be enough to group the album.
If you place a checkmark against the blank boxes and apply changes then you will clear those fields so you should only do this if that is the effect you want. Putting a checkmark next to an empty (representing different values) *Track No.* box, for example, will just clear the all the track numbers which is very rarely useful.
Adding then removing extra text is for a specific problem where despite all common values being identical across the tracks of the album iTunes seems to "remember" that it should see two albums. A typical example would be when an album originally listed as *Album CD1* & *Album CD2* is given disc numbers X of Y and then has the Album name changed to Album. I've seen iTunes merge all but one track into the new album, but insist on listing one remaining track separately, despite both albums having the same title. In this case I've found overtyping the album title again has no effect whereas changing it to AlbumX and then back to Album does what I was trying to achieve in the first place.
Don't forget that even properly organsied albums may still break up if you don't chose an album-friendly view. Sorting on the track name or track number columns can be useful in some circumstances but in general I revert to Album by Artist when browsing through my library.

the default Resource Access Infomation should be the connection information right? This is used in conjunction with SSO. You need to configure your F&R applications to delegate authentication to SSO by placing ssoMode=true in the config section of formsweb.cfg.
The Forms Servlet will connect to OID retrieve the Resource Access Information (descriptor) for a given user and automatically log them into the application.
Users will need a global identity in OID and SSO must be enabled to use resource access info with F&R

1) How do you use the forward and back button on a mouse without having to buy a product like Steer Mouse? There must be a way to do this without having to buy a program given it's such a useful feature that 99% of users need. I don't want to spend hours researching something that should already work. 2) How do you zoom in for web browsers like Chrome without it globally zooming in everything on the monitor (even background applications). I don't want to zoom in background applications. I want to be able to zoom in the web browser and still maintain all the features like the side bar, not just a little magnifying glass type thing.
I'm currently zooming in with the CTRL-Middle Mouse button, but I can't find a way to use this feature so it's useful to browse the web it seems to not scale the browser correctly but rather is a global zoom. Any solution for this?

A client I do some work for occasionally, has normally wanted me to add links to various partner websites. These have all been pretty small over the years I’ve done this work for him, like make 5 at most. Well now he’s hit me
with about 2 dozen partners that he wants a link to. When it gets to this point I think of databases.
I created a MS SQL Server database on Ready Hosting’s server, associated with my client’s account. (Got his permission before doing so.) Then I created a user for that, so that I could get into it. Ready Hosting uses something
called “myLIttleTools” for managing and administering one’s SQL Server databases on their servers. So I tried going into it, entering the credentials that I created. But it refuses to allow me to log in. I get the following error message:
“Error -2147217843
Login failed for user ‘MyID'.
Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=ReadyHostingServer;Initial Catalog=ClientDB;User Id=MyID;Password=MyPassword;Connect Timeout=120;”
(Clearly I’ve changed the credentials here; they’re not what I’ve created.)
Two days ago I opened a help ticket with them. Still haven’t heard from them.
So I’m asking here, does anyone have any experience with SQL Server database management on ReadyHosting? How am I supposed to log in when it refuses to accept the credentials for the user I created on it? They want you to use

Readyhosting is still around? They were a really good host back at the turn of the century then were bought by a company that proceeded to hire incompetents and became totally unreliable. I'd have thought they folded a decade ago.
As others said, this is an issue to be resolved through Readyhosting's support personnel. EW is not really deigned for managing database servers. If their connection permits it you can use the MS SQL tools to manage remotely (doubt they allow it though)
and most people use MS Web Developer Express for their database work on small websites not EW.

I'm not sure what you have changed with ExportPDF, but have used it in the past and there was always sign in page that popped up after you paid the annual fee. Now it keeps trying to sell me the subscription again. How do you use Export now? You have already charged my bank for the fee and I can go to my account when I sign in and see that I'm supposed to have an active subscription, but there is no place to select the option of exporting a PDF to convert to word. I have called Adobe customer care and guess what, no support available there nor help getting to the right people to help. You don't transfer Apple ID's from one device to another one. You sign out in the settings, )the App Store and iTunes if necessary) and then sign in with the other ID.
Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID>Sign out. Them sign in with the other ID. You can sign out of the app store and iTunes as well by going to the featured Atab in the App Store and the music tab in iTunes, swipe to the bottom and access the Apple ID in there.
You should have erased the iOad before you gave it to her in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. That way she could set up the iPad as new with her own Apple ID.
Be aware of the fact that if you use each others ID's in order to download past purchased content to your own iPads, you will lock yourself out of your own ID as you will have associated your iPad with the other person's Apple ID.
In other words, if you sign into your wife's ID on your iPad so that you can download an app or an album so that you don't have to pay for it again, you will lock yourself out of your Apple ID for 90 days.

No you do not need separate Apple ID's in order to use 3 devices with one Apple ID. I use 4 devices to Message and FaceTime and all use the same Apple ID. You do need to add additional email addresses for the other devices.
