How do you watch High Definition iTunes TV shows? They won't load on iPod

I bought a bunch of high definition TV shows from iTunes and when I tried to sync them to
my iPod so that I could watch them on my TV, iTunes refused to sync them, gave me the message that
they weren't loaded because my iPod couldn't play them. I don't want to play them on my iPod, just want the files on my iPod so that I can connect it to my TV to watch them on my TV.
So how the heck am I supposed to watch them on my TV?
thanks,
Erik

Right, as stated, in iTunes, when you download an HD file, a SD file comes with it too. In iTunes 8.01, you'll notice that only one file will seem to appear in your library, because they merge both versions for your library viewing, and then can choose which version to play by right clicking it and selecting version.
But anyways, onto your problem.
If you wish to play your HD videos on your TV via your iPod, you'll only be able to watch the SD versions that way since as stated, your iPod will only take the SD versions onto it.
So essentially, you will need to stream the movies from your computer to your TV. You'll probably just want to look at your options for how you either stream movies from a computer (like Apple TV) or just literally make your TV an extra monitor for your computer using the right cables (more practical if you have a laptop)

Yes, you are trying to play them on your iPod and display them on your television.
See this -> Can't transfer videos to iPod
"Note: HD content cannot be synced to an iPod. When trying to sync HD content to your device, you will see a prompt like the one above stating that the file was not copied to your iPod because it cannot be played on your iPod."

With the newest Airport firmware (7.6.1), it seems I should be able to do this.
Really? I need to check that out!
You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.

  • How can you watch a macbok pro on a tv

How can you watch a macbook pro on a tv? I have the right cable but it does not show anything from itunes.

I am assuming you have a mini-displayport/thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and of course a HDMI cable.
Set the TV to the input you connected the HDMI cable to.
On your computer, if you open the Displays preferences and do not see an Arrangement tab (or there is an Arrangement tab that shows only a single monitor) then there is something physically wrong with your connection.  Try clicking detect displays just to see if the computer can now sense the presence of the connection.  Check your cables and make sure the mini-displayport plug  is pushed firmly in.  Mini-displayport plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in the socket.
If you do have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click Gather Windows to bring the TV's Displays preferences on to your main screen.  Set the proper resolution (probably 720p, 1080i, or 1080p).  Set the refresh rate (probably 60Hz) if that preference is shown.  You should see a picture at this point.  I  recommend turning off mirrored displays if it is enabled.
You may have to play with the underscan/overscan settings on your TV and the displays prefs for the TV if the picture is too small or larger for the TV screen.
Also, you need to set your Sound preferences to output to the HDMI connection.

  • Hi I just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I write DVD's using Final Cut Pro, creating a DVD that plays HD and Standard Definition on one disk. My problem is when I used load the disk on my G5 it would ask if you want High Definition or Standar

Hi I just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
I write DVD's using Final Cut Pro, creating a DVD that plays HD and Standard Definition on one disk.
My problem is when I used load the disk on my G5 it would ask if you want High Definition or Standard Definition, now it just defaults to Standard Definition.(I'm using Apple's DVD Player)
    Can I fix this problem?

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • How do you switch from one iTunes account to another on your apple tv?

How do you switch from one iTunes account to another on your apple tv?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I assume you do mean a different account and not simply a different iTunes library. Unfortunately, in order to switch accounts, you would need to log out and log in to the second account.

  • How do you combine 3 different itunes libraries from 3 different computers to one computer?

How do you combine 3 different itunes libraries from 3 different computers to 1 computer?
Can you keep it from creating duplicates?  These libraries have some duplicates.
How do you deal with duplicates?
    I'm talking 50GB.
    All computers are authorized.
    THANKS for any suggestions.

    You can't.
If accounts could be merged, then everybody could merge their accounts with everybody and there would be no need for anyone to buy anything.

  • How do *you* handle Old Time Radio (OTR) shows in iTunes?

I collect OTR shows, free from Internet Archive.
    1. If you do as well
    2. How do you put them into iTunes? As music or possibly audiobooks?
    3. How do you signify it is OTR.
Currently I have them as Music, with "OTR" in the Genre list. But that really is not a genre and was hoping to get sone better ideas.

It's up to you, though you cannot edit the catagories list and won't be able to have OTR up next to music, audiobooks, and movies.  The few plays I have I separate into genres.  They aren't an audiobooks to me since they are plays, usually not a reading of the original book itself.

  • How do you move music from iTunes on a pc to ipad2

How do you move music from iTunes on a pc to an ipad2?

Connect your iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes under 'Devices'. On the right-hand side there should then be a series of tabs, one of which is Music - select that and you should be able to select which of your computer's iTunes music to sync to the Music app on the iPad, and then sync/apply that selection.
This page refers specifically to the iPod and iPhone, but the principle is the same for the iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351

  • HT1473 How do you move music from itunes on a windows computer to an iPhone 5,  Music from my existing collection?

How do you move music from itunes in a XP computer to an iPhone 5?

You copy the content of your iTunes Library to the iPhone by connecting to the iPhone to your computer, using the USB lead that came wiht the phone, and allowing iTunes and the iPhone to Sync with one another.
This will leave the content in your iTunes Library. An iPhone (or iPod) is not desinged to be the only location for your music (or other content). The idea is that the iPhone (or iPod) has a copy of the Library.

  • How do you watch an iMovie with this 11inch macbook air?!!?

I have a research project for class and I made a short documentary on imovie... Now I know I can view it on my mac but how can i make dvds? or let alone present it to my class (i.e. dvd) my school does not use macs, so asking IT was useless. Basically my question is, how do you watch a movie created on imovie to a windows based computer??????..... it says the file is .m4v, i am not too sure if that helps. I know there are various cables out there, but college has enough hold on my money, something free would be awesome! I really would like to make a dvd, but i will settle for whatever now...

You can play it using quicktime on a Windows computer - just be sure its installed and you're good to go.

how do you watch videos that require flash on ipad2

As flash isn't supported on the iPad (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/), you could try apps such as Skyfire which claim to support flash, though their review are mixed. A number of websites (especially news sites) have their own apps in the App Store, so you could check to see if your favourite site(s) have apps.
