How does a user's Flash Player update?

I've read that the Flash Player plugin for Internet Explorer
gets updated automatically through ActiveX if the user visits a
site that requires a more current Flash Player (and specifies it in
its html code).
As for my question, how does the Flash Player get updated if
the user is using a browser other than IE on Windows? Does the
"codebase" attribute work for these browsers as well, or on a Mac?
If not, is there a way we can ensure that everybody viewing our
content is doing so with an up-to-date Flash Player? Thanks.

In both cases (IE and other browsers) the user has to consent
to download. Will be prompt
with a message saying the page uses newer player then one
available in the browser, and ask
you to confirm whether you want to download it or not.
To assure they all have the player, place a splash screen
with site requirements and link to
download page.
You can use detections but you can't always rely on them.
Once there are changes in browsers,
security, javascript etc... things stop working properly.
Good example while visiting older pages with detections for
player 5,6 or 7, even with player
8 or 9 install, you are still refused entry. Very common on
many sites.
Splash screen is your best bet.

  • How do I trigger a Flash Player update?

On Vista machine, when (limited privledges) Visitor loged in, there was an "Adobe Flash Player update available" pop-up.  I do not do any updates as Visitor and so logged out and back in as admin.  But I cannot seem to get that pop-up message.  I have looked at the Global Notifications Settings Panel and Notify me when an update to Adobe Flash Player is available is checked.
There is an update, the settings is set to notify me, but I don't get a notification (I presume that's what the pop-up was/is).
Or does the notification only happen once a day and only for one one account on a PC?

    3 years later...
    In Windows 7,
Start -> type "cmd" into the search box (without the quotes)
Windows should find a program named cmd
Click on it to start command prompt.
A black text window should appear, with a prompt and cursor.
At the prompt you want to run the FlashUtil program with the -update plugin argument but the problem is that
The version number changes with each update, and
Over time, adobe changes where in the file system it stores this file
So, you will probably have to search for a similar program.  Once you find it, replace mine below with the program you found, and the path you found it in.
The following command works today on my system. As you can see i'm currently on version 14.0.0.145 (I will be upgrading to version 16.0.0.235 today.)
    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil32_14_0_0_145_plugin.exe -update plugin
Running this command (with the right FlashUtil exe file, once you find it) produces the familiar flash update notification window popup, which looks like this (for the v16.0.0.235 update):

  • How do I install adobe flash player update

I've downloaded  the adobe flash player update. It says thank you, here are some more products I might like, such as photo shop etc. I don't want them.
But I still can't play videos on youtube etc.

First uninstall all previous versions of flash player by using Flash Player Uninstaller then install Adobe Flash Player Software.

  • Macbook pro. app tries to use flash player and get " Blocked plugin" how to uninstall and reinstall flash player. update does nothing ?

Wife has an older MacBook Pro. when an app uses flash player "Blocked plugin" comes up. I don't know much about mac, tried to update flash player and get newer version already installed, and update and still get same message. How do I uninstall flash player and reinstall?

Sounds like it is blocked for the website you are at. Check with this:
You can quickly test whether a recently added plug-in is causing problems by blocking it.
Choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, then click Website Settings next to Allow Plug-ins.
Select the plug-in you want to disable on the far left, then click each pop-up menu on the right and choose Block. For some plug-ins, you see pop-up menus for different websites, and you can choose to block each one individually. Use the “When visiting other websites” pop-up menu to block all other websites that don’t have individual settings.

  • How to uninstall the latest Flash player update

After I installed the latest Adobe Flash update, I am getting nasty messages when running flash embedded applications from Ms Office:
"this document contains embedded content that may be harmful to your computer"
I tried to enable All Active-X and all Macros without notification in the Office Trust settings, but it dod.t help.
How can i uninstall the latest Flash update and revert to the previous version?
    Thanks!

I've fixed the issue applying the following steps:
    1. Uninstalled Flash player with the Adobe uninstall utility.
    2. Downloaded and installed the version 11.4 from the Flash archive here.
It seems that the 11.5 works fine as well. Actually, Adobe should fix the issue asap, because it will effectively ruin hundreds of office applications using flash.
Here is the thing. I should launch a standalone application from MS Excel. That application incorporates 30+ flash charts. To pass the Adobe warning message I need to click "Accept" 30 times which is insane. I don't see any other ways of disabling it, because even allowing all macros and active-x in the Excel trust center doesn't help.
Anyway, this Adobe "innovation" doesn't look right at all. I do hope someone from Adobe development team will see this and address the issue. Otherwise people will have stick to old versions and never update Flash.

  • Running without Adobe Flash Player Updater Scheduled Task

I'm trying to understand how to avoid installing Adobe Flash Player Updater Scheduled Task.
I am also unable to remove the Scheduled Task using a script that works on other tasks, on the same workstations.
Is there an mms.cfg setting that will instruct the installer to skip the Task?
    1) Uninstall the Scheduled Task from all workstations in my environment.
    2) Install future updates without the Scheduled Task.
I have already tried mm.cfg with these lines:
    AutoUpdateDisable=1
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
It still runs the update process every hour.
I have explained that it hasn't been causing a problem, but running this many processes on so many computers for no reason is causing some concern.
My organization also does not allow big bang automation included with this product.
Has anyone managed to shut off the Updater process from running?
    Thank you

    Hi Ethan,
try creating an MST file, with Fx, Wise package studio...
Edit the CustomAction “NewCustomAction1” added the parameter “-au 2” to the Command line argument.
you should do that for both:
    install_flash_player_11_active_x.msi
    and
    install_flash_player_11_plugin.msi
If you are using both of them..
Or you can delete the scheduled task with schtask /delete "taskname"

That message is just a standard one issued, mainly for Windows users, you can disregard it if you didn't install any anti-virus. (OS X has one installed by Apple that doesn't interfere)
It's just some forms of anti-malware are really paranoid and lock the entire machine down. (like Norton)

How do I download Adobe Flash Player for a computer that does not have internet?

    Hello Walter,
that's it, usually you get and Adobe Flash Player Installer only.  For a distribution in a company, or an installation on a PC without internet access, Adobe has available an offline installer. This installer you don't need to uncompress it first. You can download the installation file from there (you must logged in with your Adobe ID): http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

  • How do I get Flash Player update installed?

When trying to install an update to Flash Player update it tells me it can not install with Mozilla Fire Fox. Also, tells me I have it already but I do not. Also, tells me to uninstall Exlorer, Fire Fox and Adobe before installing. Can you please just tell the 1 -2- 3 of installation of Adobe Flash Player.

I did that a bunch of times. I also deleted it rebooted and installed flash and it still won't work. Some sites I have flash but most don't. I think I would like to go back to the older version. But this problem is only on this M11X with winblows 7 ult. 64. On my other system I have the same but it's only 32b and it works. So how do I get this to work on a 64 system? And if I can't................ Where do I go to go back to the other version?

  • How do we verify/validate that a Flash player update is legitimate?

Is there a method for ensuring that one down;oads and installs only legitimate Flash Player updates?  For that matter, any Adobe update?

    RKF wrote:
What characteristics/attributes would one look form to acquire said trust?
That's a loaded question simply because of the most obvious answer, which would be "Look for the Adobe® logo".
Problem is: there are THOUSANDS of fake sites and even more fake download "popups" with illegally used Adobe® logos in them.
You'll see legitimate "notifications" on booting up if there's an update available. The Adobe Application Manager and Adobe Updater use system date & time to notify you when an update is available. Reader and Flash Player have "scheduled" update implimentation coded into the install. These update notifications will happen when you're not online, and will appear on your desktop with a "charcoal & red" themed window, and in the case of Reader, a system tray icon as well.
ANY legitimate online Flash Player update notification will appear in lieu of Flash content in a reputable site (YouTube, CNN, etc.) and will contain a "hoverable" link that will show in your browser's status bar as "http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/".  ANY link that points anywhere other than that should not be trusted... at all, even if it has "adobe" in the url. Many fakes will add those five letters to their fake download url to fool people. They'll also use words like "WARNING" and "BEWARE" which Adobe doesn't use.
A legitimate update doesn't need to, and WON'T, "scare you into downloading it".  They also offer things like "Flash Player Pro" (which doesn't exist), or a version number that hasn't been released yet. A simple right click on ANY flash content will pop up a menu and "About Flash Player" in that menu will tell you what version you're currently running.
If you see something that doesn't look right, like "13.3.1.182" available, when you have a current version that's 13.0.0.182... don't trust it. Flash Player doesn't jump that far that fast.
That's why I say discretion is best.  I know several people who will click on a link just because it pops up. A few of them are clients and it's gotten to the point that I no longer feel bad about charging them $80 for 10 minutes time to clean up a mess they've made because I've warned them repeatedly NOT TO CLICK things when they don't know what they are or where they came from or where they lead.  I/T managers have to lock systems down to keep employees from doing that or they'd be fixing their systems 24/7. Not so easy with personal computers, especially if kids use them.

  • Why does Adobe sneak Google software into Flash Player updates?

Why does Adobe sneak Google Toolbar and Google Chrome into Flash Player updates?  I am tired of waiting for this alien software to download and, in some cases, having to uninstall it.

We don't like this yet tolerate it becaue ADOBE is unconcerned with OUR opinions and there is no suitable replacement for Flash or Reader as of yet.  However, I am certain that the "Land of Opportunity" will soon provide an alternative to accepting this deceiptful practice and we will abandon Adobe Flash en mass.  Only when this policy affects the price of stocks will Management take this seriously.  Once it hits their pocketbooks, they will take notice but the question then will be "is it too late?"  I am also looking for alternatives to Google and would appreciate any suggestions.
