How does an ipad facetime a lap top?

My sister recently got the iPad 2 and I was wondering how I could facetime her through my laptop to hers and vise-versa.
I appreciate the help!

Go to the App store and type "facetime" in the search field.  You must have operating system 10.6.8. or later installed in your mac laptop, you also need to have the latest Apple software updates installed before downloading this application.

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

You should be able to sync both to the same iTunes - I sync my iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch to the same computer. With the iPad connected and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, you can use the tabs on the right-hand side to select which of your iTunes content to sync to it, so you can control which apps, photos, music etc are synced to it, and (via the Info tab) from which email account your contacts are synced from. Your computer's iTunes should remember your syncing preferences for each device.

Isn't Outlook simply an email client or a software application on a computer? You can add an email account - whatever email provider that you use - right on the iPad. You can sync your Outlook contacts and calendar if that is what you are asking about, but Outlook itself has nothing to do with the iPad.

  • How to connect I pad with lap top Sony Vaio

    Hello,
I have an Ipad and I would like to connect it with my Lap top Sony Vaio with using the bluetooth system. And the problem that I have, my computer ask me to insert the disk and I have not this disk.
How I can do with out this disk.
My computer is with Windows Vista
    Thanks for your answer

To answer your original question, you can connect your Sony Vaio with your iPad using the cable that came with your iPad. Bluetooth connectivity is not supported. You move photos and other documents from your laptop to your iPad with iTunes which can be obtained from the Apple website for free. The iPad is not like another computer or a disk that you can connect to your laptops.

  • How can I restore my photos if the iPad and my lap top back up have been erased to correct a problem?

How can I retrieve my photos if my iPad was scrubbed to correct a sign-on problem? The "genius" at the Apple Store suggested I erase my back up as well as my iPad apps to avoid a repeat of the problem. He DID NOT tell me all of my photos would be erased along with the apps I'd downloaded!
    Help, please!

If you didn't have the photos stored somewhere else, then they are gone. A 'backup' is not and should never be considered long term storage. Photos should be extracted to a computer on a regular basis as you would with any other digital camera, and the computer should be backed up as well.

  • HT4972 ipad used to work fine with wifi Vizio. now the connection does not work while other lap tops and Ipods in the house work fine with wifi.  any suggestions to solve this please

Any suggestions please on how to recover connection of ipad2 to Vizio wifi? (it worked fine in the last few months but the connection no longer exist although other laptops continue to have wifi connection to the same Vizio router.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • How does the iPad provide Random Access Memory?

Is all the RAM on the chip?  Does it use free space as scratch?  The specs only speak about the CPU for computing power.
My wife's medical practice is using iPads for Electronic Health Records, and this is a new system transitioning from paper.  It is a cloud based software called Athena, and I suspect that their problems stem from inadequate memory (RAM or possibly even vRAM). They experience freezes and being "kicked out" of forms while entering information which requires them to reenter the information. This is a big drag on time for her staff.
These problems are less frequent when they use their Windows based laptops, and performance is even better when they use their desktop work stations. I don't know the specs on these computers. However, she experiences no problems when using her Macbook Pro which is a 2007 2.6 core2duo with 4GB of RAM. This is what leads me to the conclusion that it's a memory issue.
I don't know for sure because I'm getting my info second hand, but I think the iPads have the A7 chip.
Thanks for any insight you may have on how this works.
    DLS

Here's the spec sheet on the iPad Air. It has 1GB RAM.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ipad/specs/apple-ipad-air-1st-gen-a1474-wi -fi-only-specs.html
The comparison with a laptop or desktop with 4GB ram is not a fair comparison. All open apps use some of the available RAM. So close the iPad apps that are not being used.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • How does the ipad mini wifi only know my location when not connected to wifi?

I thought the wifi only ipad mini does not have a gps chip.  Yesterday however, I was driving around with my wife in the car (no wifi) and the ipad mini was able to keep track of my location on the map I had pre-downloaded.  How is this possible?

Your WiFI only position is determined by the iPad keeping track of the names and intensity of the various WiFi signals and comparing that to a database of WiFi access points with their locations.

  • How does my iPad iCal get on my Mac?

When I sync my iPad and its calendars through iTunes, it is only a one-way transfer.  I do not have MobileMe because I cannot afford the program.  When I create events on my iPad, how do I transfer those to my iCal on my Mac?  Is the only way through MobileMe? Thanks.

    Greetings Mike,
Syncing an iPad with a Mac using iTunes should go both ways (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386).
You say its a one-way transfer meaning what exactly?  What happens when you sync your calendars?
    Troubleshooting:
    1.) Backup all your data:
    Backup your iPad: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
2.) Reset the computer's sync services and then restart the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
3.) Plug in the iPhone and attempt a sync.
If that does not resolve the issue let me know and I'll give you a different route.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why does my ipad facetime not connect?

Ive had my ipad for 2 months now and my facetime wont work because of connection but it works for my iphone4 and ipod touch!

Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues. The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in Settings/Wi-Fi on your iPad will override the router settings.
    Try either of these;
    OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google Public DNS
    8.8.8.8. 8.8.4.4

  • How does the iPad communicate with a pc? I am trying to listen to mp3's that are currently on my pc.  I can't get to the pc directly and I realize that's a distinct limitation of the iPad, but since it's also limited in it's ability to read sd or USB stik

    See the question above.

Sorry, but I don't understand the question. If you wish to learn how to sync music from your computer to your iPad, read the user's guide or see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
Otherwise, you'll need to clarify your question.
    Regards.
