How does apple expect me to enjoy youtube on apple tv without a keyboard

entertaining with atv is great, people are so impressed with being able to watch trailers, movies, tv and the like on apple tv... youtube is a huge favourite, everyone knows a youtube video they want their friends to see, but it's SO annoying having to click around the alphabet with the apple remote, even slower with the universal remote i use.
it's really quite a buzz kill while ten people filled with wine wait for you to scroll around and select each letter while trying to type "pablo francisco ecstacy"... why is there not (or is there) a keyboard option to speed this process up and increase the entertainment of my guest ten fold
thank you

I have thought about this before myself, before finding out the remote app works as a keyboard. Since then I have been set because I already had an iPod touch at the time (now I have an iPhone)... this i agree is not so helpful for those who do not have one of the two...
Before I thought, Apple TV needs a bluetooth adapter built-in or atleast they need to open up the usb port for a bluetooth adapter so we can use bluetooth keyboards with the search interfaces... well, later on I found out sometimes, 802.11 and bluetooth can step on each other, at least, for this one warehouse computer manufacturer it can (I won't mention who), so maybe Apple was avoiding that CF.
A line of sight / infrared keyboard could work, but would it be cheap enough? Probably in the price range of a "remote commander" all-in-one type deal which would come out close to the price of an iPod touch or iPhone, both of which have way more features than a keyboard
A Wired keyboard... no. NO FREAKIN WAY MAN!!! No. At least, not for me. My dog might eat it.
So maybe an 802.11 keyboard would work, but it too would be expensive as a stand alone device, which is why it probably made sense to build ATV keyboard functionality into a device that already costs alot of money , but also offers justifiable features on its own, the iPod touch and the iPhone.
Sure it would be nice if they offered a cheaper alternative, and I would bet that a compact infrared keyboard would be the easiest to implement. Bluetooth could be a possibility, as long as the hardware could come together and the interference potential could be kept to a minimum. But if you're going to spend nearly that much money on a keyboard for Apple TV, the iPod touch at least offers other features and is open to future enhancements through software upgrades...
I mean, who knows whats coming down the pipe...
maybe games / apps that can run on the ATV? It would be cool if the iPod touch / iPhone could become a game controller interface for games on the ATV...
maybe its something else coming down that pipe... (sure hope not!)
If you want to bug apple about what bugs you, use this link religously:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
I do, and they probably don't listen, but at least I dropped a pebble in the bucket.

    Hello dustysmart,
I believe what is going on is that you have a secondary keyboard turned on within Windows. When you press alt + shift at the same time you are alternating between the two keyboards.
To check this (and possibly delete the French keyboard if you don't want it) you can go into Control Panel and check under Change Keyboard.
This article will provide you instructions depending on which version of Windows you are using.

How do I open a YouTube account on Apple TV ? or is this not necessary if you are only viewing-in which case perhaps this confusing log in request can be removed at the next software update because it is a nonsense....

Having an account is not required to view Youtube on ATV. The log in is necessary for those who do have one and gives access directly to your uploaded videos, favorites, subscriptions etc.

  • How does Verizon expects me to let my unlimited plan go if they are not offering anything remotely close to it?

My husband and I stopped today at a Verizon store in Fort Myers, just to check out of curiosity the deals they were offering regarding the new Iphones (we have Iphones 4s) currently we still have our unlimited data plan; everything sounded interesting at first, phone features are nice, lady rep was nice, until the real question pops up; what will be the plan change since they don't offer unlimited anymore? (if we get new phones we can't keep our plan)
Their response: Ohh well if you want to keep paying the same per month then you unlimited will be downgraded to a 2GB data plan..... WHATTTTTT!!!! never mind our current usage is 6GB on a 4 phones family unlimited plan..... on top of that she added, well due to your usage you may need to get the 10GB data plan = $100 + phone line per phone + taxes ..... which will add between $ 40 to 60 to my bill and this is not counting any extra ghost charge fees they love to add on the bills every now and then with bogus excuses.... sorry Verizon!!! we have been loyal customers for years and this is what we get??? on top of that we tried to get a hold of someone at customer service over the phone and they put you in hold for over 40 minutes.... extremely frustrating and disappointing.... Do Verizon knows the concept of CUSTOMER LOYALTY? ....

    amchas76 wrote:
Well Mr. Helper, what can I tell you, it seems you have the numbers all figured out but reality is that currently with taxes included on our unlimited plan we are paying less than 200, so there are my additional 60, I still don't see the advantage of dropping my plan.
On top of that while navigating thru this site and others, investigating options, there are a good number of unhappy customers on this and other issues and sooner than later Verizon will face legal consequences to their contract  irregularities, and even though we are aware of Verizon intentions of dropping everybody from the unlimited plan, that is not what we signed for initially and to do it without a customer consent well, to me simply implies a breach of contract.
The main problem we found is that its not reasonable for a customer on an unlimited plan with an average data usage between 5 and 10 GB to be expected to happily say yes and sign a contract to downgrade you to a 2 GB plan, and try to lure you into it with false or better saying incomplete information and that's a fact since every rep at different Verizon stores give you a different explanation of the plan or the "benefits" you get with it., what they don't explain is that you may be subject to additional ghost charges and on risk of getting your data usage inflated in order to push you into higher plans/fees (I read far enough complains about this issue on THIS forum).
So perhaps if, as you say they are leaving customer without any options, I would have no choice but to sign a 10 GB plan and suck in my higher bill, but Verizon is not giving me any confidence or assurance that I won't get any surprise charges on my bill and I say this knowing for sure that there is NO WAY POSSIBLE we can use the 10 GB a month, that is concerning.
How are you paying $200 with 4 lines?
    700 Minutes nationwide
    Line 1 $60
    Line 2 $10
    Line 3 $10
    Line 4 $10
    Unlimited text $30
    4 unlimited data plans $120.
    TOTAL $240.
Unless you're getting some work related discount.
In order for Verizon to be in breach of contract there has to be a contract. If your contract is up them there is no contract. Also this from your customer agreement that you AGREED to.
CAN VERIZON WIRELESS CHANGE THIS AGREEMENT OR MY SERVICE?
We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service.
Thirdly no one is forcing you to sign a contract. Verizon gives you the option to keep your unlimited if you pay full price for the phone. Verizon doesn't have to even have to offer that. Eventually everyone is going to have to be on a More Everything plan and there isn't a unlimited data option on that for obvious reasons.
There aren't any ghost charges and my data has been correct every month. Hmmmmmm. Maybe I'm just special. I guess I'm on some "do not overcharge" list.
If you really need unlimited data there is T-Mobile or Sprint.

  • How does adobe creative suite 2 run on the apple book pro?

I've only been using my MacBook pro for about a week (but now I have to send it to apple to replace the logic board), but my experience with photoshop CS2 and AE has been positive.
I also have a TI800 and the MacBook Pro blows that away but I'm sure the newest Powerbook would out perform the MacBook in AE and photoshop. Bottom line is it is definitely usable and better then I expected.

  • How does one use the middle and right buttons in AIR without the cursor showing?

All I want to do is use all three botton clicks without the cursor showing (assistive technology situation). So I use Mouse.hide(). All works fine with the Left mouse button. With the middle and right buttons the cursor reappears as soon as the middle and right mouse is in the DOWN state (and stays visible until rehidden--see code). Are there Mouse parameters that could be added? (I can't find any such references.) Do I need to create a custom cursor Class that makes the cursor invisible at all times? Here is my simple AS 3 test code.

    Dear Tuttle and Tom:
You both sent me to the appropriate place. I downloaded the instruction file (PDF). Many thanks.
Incidentally, I then downloaded the upgrade offered at the top of that page (from v3.2 to v3.2.4) but after ±90% of the necessary time needed, it shut down with a "Failed to Mount" message (whatever that might mean). It took more than 28 minutes to download that much even though I'm using DSL! Have either of you upgraded to v3.2.4 with or without difficulty?
Thanks again for your right-on assistance.

Thanks but the problem was there was no trash icon. Shut phone down and rebooted and the trash icon came back. Don't know how long it will stay.
Probably for a long time.  Occasionally, there will be a hiccup or a glitch, and closing then reopening the app usually fixes it.  If not, then a restart or a reset might.  After that, you may need to reset settings or try further troubleshooting.  In the worst case scenario, you can always make a backup then restore the backup, since the restore process acts as a 'filter', or even restore as new and test your issue.
Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
    - Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear.  (For iOS 6, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
    - Relaunch the App and try again.
    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • How does client certificate get passed through TMG/ISA to destination server (eg. SCCM)?

To avoid the 403.7 errors when the destination server requires certificate authentication, how does SSL bridging reverse proxy inspect the traffic for safety without breaking the certificate authentication?
I'm not asking for specific configuration steps on this.  I just want an easy to understand overview on the process of how the laptop or smartphone authentication device certificate would pass through while TMG/ISA is still protecting the destination
    from attacks.

I'm not sure if SSL Bridging is the same with Cert Authentication,...but...
The way it works when Bridging SSL for published SSL web sites is by the ISA having a copy of the same Cert used on the published site.  You buy the cert for the Site and install it on the web server and get it set up with the site,..then export it
with the private key.  Take the exported Cert and install it on the TMG and configure it into the Web Publishing Rule.
The SSL tunnel coming in terminates at the TMG,...meaning the SSL Tunnel was only between the user and the TMG (not between the user and the site as it would appear on the surface). Then the traffic is inspected or whatever would be intended to do with it.
Then a new distinct independent SSL Tunnel is created between the TMG and the SSL Site and the traffic is passed on to the site at that point.  AFAIK, the Reverse Proxy only happens between the two tunnels while the traffic is unencrypted.

  • How does J2EE SDK provide JNDI DataSource ?

Still new to J2EE and working my way thorugh Wrox press "professional java server programming". Im using the deploy tool and im wondering how does J2EE provide JNDI names for a DataSource ? Im somewhat familiar with JNDI and I thought you had to use a directory service such as OpenLDAP to use JNDI.
    my questions then are:
    (1) What kinds of things can you do with JNDI without using a directory service ?
    (2) How does the J2EE SDK physically store references to a DataSource without using a directory service. In otherwords, how does the J2EE server provide for using JNDI names for a DataSource and is this a typical feature of J2EE containers ?

i wish someone would answer this. i curious myself about these exact same things.

  • How does apple want me to create a DVD to play on my DVD player from iMovie? iDVD did not come with my iMac.

I have created several home movies in imovie and am now ready to burn them to DVDs that family members can play on their DVD players. How am I supposed to do this? iDVD did not come with my imac. How does apple want us to do this? Thanks.

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it, and how do I install it?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. Some purchasers of new iMacs have reported that if you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone to Apple, they may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple.
Also, you can complain bitterly via Apple’s Feedback link, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means. You may feel that Apple should not dictate how you destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and should not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or that comes with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. As there is no satisfactory substitute for iDVD Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
It is worth noting that the version of iDVD 7 included with iLife 11 only includes themes from iDVD 5-7. If you want all the older themes you should buy iLife 9, which has the same version of iDVD 7 but with all the themes, and none of the iDVD 7 updaters available from Apple Downloads contain them.
Currently the only certain way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-21006826-20751 4/Installer001.jpg
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-21006826-20748 0/Pacifist001.jpg
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
But even though you can still buy iLife 9 or 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
When you try to install iDVD you may see a notice come up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March 2012, because Apple have withdrawn the license to it can no longer be used.
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After installing iDVD reset the time back to the correct time on your Mac.
You may be to use able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  Just click on the Continue button and it should work as expected, but for some it will not continue unless the date is  set back.
    Additional comments:
Apple has clearly indicated in the newest iMacs, Mac mini and Retina Display MacBook Pro that it plans to phase out optical disc drives as soon as possible across the board, providing an external USB drive as an option for users who need one but which is not universally compatible with all Macs.
Users increasingly have fewer opportunities to use optical drives, as the bulk of third party software is now available as a digital download either directly from the vendor or through Apple's App Store. but not all. Apple also sees digital distribution as the future of music and movies, as exemplified in Apple TV, which has never included an optical drive.
The company has never supported any new HD optical disc formats on its products, including Microsoft's ill fated HD-DVD or Sony's Blu-ray format, despite initially being involved in the Blu-ray standardization process. Instead, Apple has put its resources behind developing increasingly higher definition audio and video formats that it can distribute electronically through its own iTunes Store.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their latest Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.
The latest anorexic iMacs do not even include a CD drive (or Firewire)! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of optical media - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

Unfortunately, this is a problem that is driven by the DRM Dictatorship.  Despite the proliferation of mobile devices and the fact that there are many of us who do a lot of international travel, content providers don't want you to have access to their products outside of your homeland.  The Balkanized mentality of the DRM Dictatorship is way out of touch with the modern world.
At least Apple, to its credit, allows you to use your accounts outside of your homeland as long as you have the proper credentials for them.  Most other services use the more Draconian geolocation filtering which does require you to be physically present in your homeland.  For the most part, you are not allowed to leave home if you want access to your favorite entertainment!
