How does BI Server switch queries?

Hi,
I notice that BI server issues seperate queries to fulfill the analysis. But sometimes I find a single statement with nested sub queries, but most of the time just the individual queries.
So my question is, when it issues multiple queries and bring the data, probably into its memory - do it perform a stich query at this point of time? Can we see this query?
Thanks.

You might be knowing that the within RPD you can control whether you want to use with clause or stitch joins.
To analyze the queries in detail it is recommended to increase the query log level. you are right it creates temp files when it federating data across multiple databases or multiple aggregation tables/partition tables etc.
Hope this gives more pointers..

  • How does the server authenticate a print user?

I don't fully understand how my XServe authenticates my clients for print access. If the XServe user account differs from the account on the client machine, does it still work? For example, if server account John Smith is allowed to print to a queue, will it still work if the client machine account is Johnny Smith?
How does the XServe get the authentication info?

    Hi
I might be able to shed some light on this. Is the printer you are managing a networked printer on the same IP address range as server and clients?
If thats the case then you can print to the printer directly and bypass the server’s print server anyway. You have to use different methods if you really want to lock the printer down and have users print to it by using the accounts specified in WorkGroup Manager – and by implication using either PasswordServer or Kerberos authentication.
You can do this a number of ways. If your server has two ethernet ports – which yours has – then place the printer on the other ethernet port that is currently not in use. There is no way for any of your clients to access this printer other than through the Server. If you have more than one networked printer, again utilise the other ethernet port, this time attach a small switch/hub 5-8 ports (depending on how printers you have) to the port and work it the same way.
    Hope this helps.

    @GJ - thx -- I knew that-subconsciously!  i just didn't put it all together
@test - well, i'm in the process of studying Thom Parker's scripting course,
so hopefully i'll learn how to do that soon .
    but meantime - it's a combination of client-side/server-side scripting?
So would youse criticque my summary understanding of the flow of the process?
client requests -> server serves the pdf -> client fills out form on their machine ->
(requiring that they have "some" pdf application installed, or invite them to dL/install Adobe Reader, etc)
script embedded in the form button "Submit" causes the now-changed-data-filled-out-pdf
to be "returned/received" back on the server in changed form -- ->
either to be manually gathered/downloaded by me,
or, by further scripting, auto-magically returned to my email, etc?
w/ the scripting "Notifying me that the client has completed & returned the form" ?
    ----  more ----
and if i think about it further -- would a server even be needed? how about all transactions strictly via email?
since the "volume" will be pretty low
send email attachment, then "Submit" scripted button invokes their desktop email client if they have one,
or just give the instruction to re - send the now-filled-out pdf, as an attachment, back to my email --- ?

  • How does OSX Server work

Hi, I have 4 iMacs and 2 Macbook Pro's that have recently been brought from separate locations to one place, though all are currently working independently.
I am looking into setting up OSX server so that everything can be shared etc. I was just wondering if one of my Mac's will act as the central server and contain all the data or it will be a case of all data remaining on each Mac and just shared across the network when needed. Its just that I don't think any of the Mac's has enough storage space to store everything across all units. Thanks in advance. Craig

Would all of our data across all computers then be stored within that 2TB? If so are there options for expansion of that storage.
Well, this depends on how you set up the environment.  First a thought about your data, then a thought about the storage.
You could store home folders on the server and everyone logs in directly to the server.  But, if you are using Photoshop (or even iPhoto), you will not have a pleasant experience.  User homes can remain on the individual systems and the users simply copy shared data up to the server.  Now, if you are looking to create an asset library, you might want to look at products like Cumulus or Portfolio.  Depending on your workflow, some form of digital asset management software may streamline your environment.
As far as storage, Apple provides a mini configuration that offers two 1 TB drives.  These drives do not come in a raid so the OS is on one drive and the other drive is just sitting there.  You can use the server in this capacity but you then have no redundancy on the OS drive or the data drive.  If you RAID the two drives into a mirror, then your usable capacity becomes 1TB but you gain redundancy (redundancy ≠ backup).  I will admit, I remain a fan of the direct attached storage model where you have a host system and you have storage.  By separating the storage from the host, you have the ability to move the storage should the host have trouble.  Perfect case in point.  A Mac mini Server is covered under Apple Care.  This is a consumer level warranty agreement.  So, if there was a problem with your mini and all your data is in the mini, then you are likely down for three days (1 day to diagnose, 1 day to get part of send unit in for repair, and the third to get it operational again).  I simply can not come to terms with sending a server with my enterprise data into Apple for repair.  This does not sit well.  But if the data is on an attached array, then the host can completely melt down.  I simply need to connect the array to another device and I have my data.
Then, would server back-ups be done by an external hard disk with storage that exceeds 2TB and time machine? Or is there a more advisable solution?
Realistically, a backup volume should be a minimum of 2x the capacity of your source volume.  This allows for historical increments.  Perhaps one of the best primers I have seen on backup is a study funded by the Library of Congress.  Check out this site http://dpbestflow.org/backup/backup-overview and take a look at the 3-2-1 backup rule.  This is a simple rule that nearly every company can follow.  But, it comes down to budget.  Too often I see companies that plan for the server and the storage and then never consider the cost of backup.  This is a crime as data is or currency.  Machines can be replaced often in minutes.  Walk into store and buy a new machine.  But your data... hundreds or thousands of hours or work can not be reconstructed as easily (or if ever).  Likewise, the American Red Cross conducted a multiyear study that concluded that "as many as 40% of small businesses do not reopen after a major disaster." (http://www.redcross.org/images/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m4240206_PrepYourBusfo rtheUnthinkable.pdf)   I can not stress the importance of backup enough.  And backup alone is not enough.  You must test restoration on a regular schedule.  What good is a backup if it doesn't work when you need it?
So, how do you backup?  This will depend on many factors.  They include number of locations you have access to, budget, capacity of data, etc.  Keep in mind that many cloud solutions (Crash Plan Pro, Carbonite, etc) provide a means of satisfying the off-site requirement.  However, if you are starting with a large data set, it can take many weeks (without a seed backup) to get your data replicated.  Many will simply use Time Machine as the starting point.  This is a good place to start.  But you must monitor it.  Trust.  But verify.
Ok, sorry for the rambling.  Actually enjoying a lunch break for a change

The variable DISABLE_CACHE_HIT is used to enable or disable Oracle BI Server result cache hits and not the presentation server cache. So the behavior seems to be correct. You can manage the presentation server cache settings in hte instanceconfig.xml file. Refer to the documentation below to understand the parameters you can configure: ( http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e10541/querycaching.htm#i1218900 )

  • How does fast user switching know which energy settings to use?

When using fast user switching and keeping 2 accounts logged in, which accounts' energy settings take priority (assuming their settings don't match)? For example, let's say I set my account's display to sleep after 15 minutes and my wife sets hers for 30 minutes. If we both keep our accounts logged in and then leave the Mac on the login screen, who wins?
The reason I ask is because my display won't stay asleep. Unlike my example above, I've made sure both accounts have identical energy settings (sleep the display after 15 minutes & the iMac itself is set to 'never sleep'). I can get it to sleep (usually by pressing control-shift-eject), but it will not stay asleep. I don't think any applications are causing this (I've shut down all apps to test - only Time Machine is scheduled to run automatically). I'm starting to wonder if fast user switching could be the cause? I usually keep both accounts logged in at all times and return to the login screen before heading to bed. I then force the display to sleep with control-shift-eject, but several hours later I wake up to a bright room because the display has turned on again. I haven't tried turning off fast user switching yet, but I can see where that might confuse the OS?
Oh, I've also disabled waking on bluetooth activity just in case my wireless mighty mouse was losing its connection & waking the display upon reconnection - no luck.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated - it's driving me nuts, especially since I can't just turn off the iMac display itself without powering down the entire system.

Energy Saver settings are system-wide and not specific to the user. If one user changes the settings, it's changed for everyone. Screensaver settings are user-specific.
That said, the reason that the system wakes by itself can be one of several things: the system is set to wake up (you can set this under energy saver) by preferences or some application/service, the system receives a wake-up message from something on the network (you can configure this under Security, I believe, or Network, I don't recall), or you have "chatter" related to a device plugged into your computer.
"chatter" is when a USB device or FireWire device sends a signal to the computer it's connected to. Normally, peripherals are quiet if not actively in use, but some things (cheap USB hubs, certain mice, etc) will spuriously send a signal to the connected computer and cause it to wake.

  • How Does BI Build The Physical SQL

How does BI build physical queries? Below I have two queries.
Query1 – This is what BI builds. I tried to run it but after 14 minutes of no results, I kill the job.
Query2 – This is just the extraction of the base query from Query1. This runs in 2:08 minutes.
For whatever reason, BI is taking the base query and making it an inline view to create Query1. The wrapper query around this view is slow. Very weird.
There are only 409 rows returned.
Why does BI build these physical queries with the code WITH SAWITH0 ... ? It seems to be very inefficient.
Is there a way to force BI to not use this inefficient method?

  • How does Merged Dimensions Work in WebI created on SAP BI Queries

    Hi,
I need to know how does Merge dimensions work in WebI when using SAP BI Query as source?
Below is my understanding when connection is defined for the universe on oracle database:
    1) To get the data in merged dimensions, there must be physical join (Either Direct or vai some other tables) between different tables at backend level (This means  there  must be join between tables in Oracle database.)
    2) we get the UNION of data when dimensions are merged at webI level.
I dont know how this works in SAP BI.
Since there is different data model defined for different BI Queries in SAP , and for each BI Query and there is seperate Universe, So how can you get correct data in WebI when there is no connections in DSO's used in different BI queries?
Can any one suggest me the way data apperas in merged dimensions for WebI created on SAP BI?

I assume we are only talking about merging dimensions in Web Intelligence here and not on the BW backend. this is a client side mere where you have 2 resultsets.
if you want to do this on the BI server side it would be a multi-provider combining different InfoProviders - or a InfoSet - depending on the join type you need. MultiProvider is a union, Infoset allows you to choose

  • Debugging mode in server - How does it work?

    Hi
How does debugging mode in a server work ?
Is the code compiled line by line as we proceed or how ?
When we make a code change how is the hot code replaced when in debug mode and why not in normal run mode?
Why is it not necessary to restart a server when we make changes to jsp when in normal mode?
    Thanks in Advance

How does debugging mode in a server work ?Just like in any othe rprogram.
Then how is it possible to change the values when
the program is running . i.e. we have a option that
we can change the values right !!
Because the debug api allows you to do that.
    >
s the code compiled line by line as we proceedor
    how ?
No. Line number information is stored in the.class
file, and the editor simply displays the line the
bytecode mentions. Whether bytecode and sourcecode
    match is a different thing.
I had previously read that the compiler compiles
the code with break points at the beginning of every
class (for step by step method)
I agree with Rene. It happensthat you debug with the wrong source code and you will in that case notice that the debugger is saying that you are executing a line between methods.

When we make a code change how is the hot code
replaced when in debug mode and why not innormal
    run
mode?I guess the executed bytecode for a method issimply
replaced in memory... the entry point was probably
stored and will be used to re-set to method entry
    before running the new bytecode.
Then why is it not done when we are running the
    server in the normal mode.
Why would it? What code should it replace it with?

Why is it not necessary to restart a server when
    we
make changes to jsp when in normal mode?
Because the server can notice the change andunload
    and reload the class.
I meant that when the jsp is compiled the servlet
is created when i run the server right.(i'm not
    sure).
So when I change the code and without restarting the
server I run a jsp file it reflects the changes...
    HOW??
Because some servlet runners can be configured to check changes on disk, and recompile if needed.

  • How can I combine two queries ? QoQ does not work

I have one query where I just count the total qty coming in per month, something like:
    <cfquery name="qryIn" datasource="dbname">
    select count(orderNO) as totalIN,month
    where status = "IN"
    group by month
    </cfquery>
I then have a second query to count the total qty going out per month
    <cfquery name="qryOut" datasource="dbname">
    select count(orderNO) as totalOut,month
    where status = "OUT"
    group by month
    </cfquery>
I then use QoQ to combine both:
    <cfquery="qryTotal" dbtype="query">
    select
    totalIN,
    totalOUT
    from qryIN,qryOUT
    where qryIN.month = qryOUT.month
    </cfquery>
The problem I am running into is that QoQ does not allow LEFT JOIN, so that if the month is in one query but not the other, it will not pick up that record. And that is throwing off my counts.
How can I combine  both queries, and bypass QoQ to get a qty IN and qty Out value, per month ? and, for example, if qty in exists for one month and qty Out does not exists for that month, then qty Out will be zero for that month.
I need this data to plot a chart.
    Thanks for any help provided.

Do it in a single query to your database.  Here is part of it.
    select month
    , sum(case when when status = "IN" then 1 else 0 end) total_in

  • How does Oracle client communicate with a database server

Looking to idenify how Oracle Database Client for OpenVMS communicates with database server and whether the protocol used is secure. Realize that it is using whatever the configured network protocol is (ie. tcpip) but is languauge it uses ( ie. SQL, etc..)  secured/encrypted and if not what steps can be taken to encypt

I have installed oracle client 10g on client pc for getting connection to Oracle databse 10g (runng on windows server) usng ODBC through SAGE ACC PAC (ERP). Working fine earlier. Now all of a suddent user starts complaining about database connection. When checked his pc registry values. Two values of ODBC keys are reset to null. Those are DSN and DRIVER values. How come this values reset to null? What is causing this to reset?Nothing in this has anything to do with the sever. You need to check what the client did on his machine that caused registry to get modified?
How does oracle ODBC works with Oracle database? Need to know all the steps involved? The connectoin from any client is initiated by a client process. This client process is supposed to get a server process to do his work. So if this is done, the client can work now with oracle . Please see the concepts guide for the gory details of the entire process.

  • How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?

I successfully installed .NET framework v 3.5 and VWD 2008 on a new Vista laptop. When I want to add a Sql Server database to a website, errors tell me to install SS 2005 Express. MSDN SS 2005 Express download tells me I MUST  first install .NET framework v 2.0 before SS 2005. When I try to install framework v 2.0, I'm sent to v. 3.5 and no way to download SS 2005.
How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?

  • Common reason for Mirage Server Failure in Clustered Environment and how clients will be switched to other server in a cluster

    Hi,
Can Anybody share me the information regarding Common reason for Mirage Server Failure in Clustered Environment.
And how clients will be switched to other server in a cluster to continue their operations from the failed server.
    Regards,
    Bathesha C

    Hello,
if you have more than one mirage server configured with Load balancing (LB or MSFTNLB) the client would disconnect from the faulting server and then reconnect to an other server to progress with the action as before.
All Mirage server are stateless and share the same SIS (single instance store) so any server can update or create CVD file set for an client.
    Hope that helps.
