How does Diablo 3 run on 15"?

Hi
I'm considering buying the baseline, $1829.99 (Canadian) Macbook Pro 15"
I would consider myself someone who plays video games quite a bit.
Does anyone know how Diablo 3 or Starcraft II run on the baseline 15"?
Thanks!

I'm running it on a iPad 3 and so far no issues. I had one game that the first time I used it lagged real bad for about 10 seconds. I closed it then opened it again and it has been fine since. I'm not a typist so as for keyboard lag it's not there for me but some on the blog say theirs lag. Before you upgrade I strongly recommend you look really hard at the new icons on Apples product pages. Most complaints I see are related to that and the colors/ contrast of the Apple apps pages. Lots of plain white backgrounds. Some people on the blogs report severe issues and some will likely only be correctable by a later update. Keep in mind that most help blogs like this one only see people who are having issues. That doesn't mean that the update is bad but that said I would be upset if I upgraded and had some of their problems with my pad.

  • How does Aperture run on 128MB of VRAM?

I want to purchase the low end mac book pro. How does aperture run on the 128MB of VRAM?
Will it run okay and how will it compare to the 256MB one?
Also, is it different for Ap1.5 and Ap2?

It is really simple: Aperture performs better with stronger hardware. As one goes up the line of Mac hardware performance improves.
Although Aperture will run on any MacIntel with at least 2 GB RAM, all laptops and iMacs are very significantly limiting to Aperture's performance. IMO if one buys a by-definition-limiting box like a MBP (I own one) it makes most sense to buy the strongest MBP available.
Whatever you buy, max out the RAM.

  • How does Aperture run on a PowerBook?

Does Aperture run well on a PowerBook?

    Hi
I have a PB 1.5MHZ and 1GB RAM. Aperture works quite ok for basic stuff(despite all the beta quality problems that are not acceptable, but this is another story). I have 12'000 photos in the entire library and it takes some seconds to load them all. But I never work with all images at the same time. So, If you have not incredible huge projects this is not an issue. However, I do not use many raw images but only high res jpg's (8 and 10 m-pixels).
This is for browsing, working with keywords etc. - the powerbook works fine.
But when it comes to editing, the Powerbook really hits the limit. Maybe this is also because I have only 1 gig of RAM. E.g. using the patch tool is almost impossible since moving the patch area takes 5 seconds to recalculate. The feeling is like having a blind mouse - you navigate and wait to see where your pointer now is. This real-time feature is totaly unusable on a powerbook. Basic editing like contrast, exposer works ok.
And since everything is realtime, the more image adjustments you make, the slower everything gets.
Importing is really a slow dog. In the office I have a dual 2.7Ghz machine with lots of RAM and even there importing images is slow.
But still, I was quite surprised how well it woks on my Powerbook. I do the big things in the office, but beeing able to take everything with me and do some works on my projects in the train or whatever is really good.
I hope that we soon get very fast dual core intel based powerbooks that might even be faster than todays dual powermacs...
    Cheers

  • How does NetBeans run for you?

Was going to start using NetBeans today and was amazed at how bad it was. Can't really picture it being that bad for most people.
Basically here is what it did.
Loaded - took like 10 seconds.
Popped up, I choose to make a new project.
Spent like 5 minutes reading the classpath classes or something.
Gave me a wizard. I tried to make a project, java errors showed up red in the status bar, stopped working: I closed it.
I could continue but basically it was the slowest and buggiest thing I have ever tried to use, Maya seriously runs faster and I don't understand how what is basically a text editor could lag so bad. It only crashed once, but it was painly slow; even trying the whole thing lagged. Is this normal or was it just not working right on my computer? Anyone know what could maybe make it go faster?
    Stats:
    1.8 gig amd
    128 ddr
    128 video
    xp
    newest jsdk / jre
    virus/adware/spyware clean

    Stats:
    1.8 gig amd
    128 ddr
128 videoIt is probably a memory issue. Netbeans consumes quite a bit of memory. On my workstation which has 1 gig of memory, Netbeans consumes 128 megabytes at startup. WinXP, email, virusscan and a few other necessities eat up about 400 megabytes on my PC, so when I'm using Netbeans my PC uses between 528 and 768 megabytes depending on what I am doing.
Your poor performance and failures are most likely due to memory constraints on your PC (128mb if I am reading your note correctly). If you want to use a robust IDE you are going to have to add additional memory to your PC, and even for modest command line programming your memory is borderline.
I use and really like Netbeans and have found it fast and stable for all the work I have done and it has been extensive. I am running on a AMD 64 3000+ with 1 gig memory, but ran reasonably well on a P4 1.3Ghz with 768 megabytes.
Sorry I don't have a better message for you.

  • How does XP run?

Let's say I have a new baseline Mac Pro, and a PC with comparable specs. How would the mac stack up against the PC, running XP SP3? I'm thinking of getting a mac and putting bootcamp on it, but I want to be able to run all my games. Does a mac run games fine in bootcamp?

They would have similar or the same benchmarks.

Depends on the system requirements of the games, but when your Mac is running Windows, it is for all intents and purposes a Windows PC and can run Windows applications and games like any other Windows PC (as already stated).

  • How does one run a *.exe with a Java program?

    Hi,
I'm looking for a way to run an executable (*.exe) or batch file (*.bat) from within a Java program.
Any suggestions, leads, or examples appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Runtime.getRuntime.exec("pathTo/yourapp.exe");
For any type of interpreted scripts, the interpreter should be added:
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec({ "command.com", "mybat.bat"});
    or
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec({"/bin/sh", "configure.sh"});

  • How does one run a shell script at system startup?

    Hi,
I am trying to unmount my Boot Camp hard drive on my MacBook Pro. Now what I could do is create an automator action, save it as an application and then put it into my user´s login items. I am wondering though - shouldnt it be possible to run a simple shell script command like +diskutil unmount /Volumes/"Boot Camp"+ sometime during the startup process?
Or to put it another way - is there an easy way to do this or do i have to create an manage a daemon through launchd ?
Your help is very much appreciated.

sorry I forgot to mention that there is a bug in Lingon which creates a plist incorrectly if you enter your script explicitly on line 2. At least I haven't been able to make it work. A workaround I always use it the following.
Save your script as a *plain text* file from your favorite text editor. change the extension to .sh and make the file unix executable. Now, when you ccreate a launch daemon using Lingon, enter the path to that file instead of the script itself.
    This always works for me.
    Good luck!

Just upgraded to Adobe CS3 (creative suite premium) I haven't really run through all the apps, though Acrobat seems to be slower/choppier -- one 933 quicksilver & one with a Sonnet 1.6 ghz upgrade --
    Any thoughts/experiences?

  • How does Lion run on a 2.4 intel core 2 duo 2Gb RAM ?

I have been holding off upgrading as my current machine is running fine (although a little too slow for my kids), but I would like to use iCloud.  Would appreciate any advice.  I am current in all other software.

Lion will run on a Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM but it will be slow. I would recommend a minimum of 4GB to have a good experience.  Please visit either www.macsales.com or Crucial.com for RAM upgrades, upgrading to 4 (possibly 6GB) will be about $100 or less.
BTW please update your profile, it's very confusing. Your header says you have a Core 2 Duo but your profile indicates a Core Duo, these are NOT the same!!! You can update the profile by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right the clicking the Profile link and completing the pertinent info.

  • Logic 8 on Macbook Pro - fully loaded with 4 Gig rams - how does it run?

Wondering what people's experiences using Logic 8 on a Macbook Pro are. I haven't bought one yet and deciding between the laptop and the Mac Pro tower. I play to only be recording one instrument at a time, primarily guitar and bass. Then using a lot of virtual synths for the other insutrements.
Is a fully loaded Macbook Pro sufficient for several tracks of virtual synths and effects (reverb etc.) for mixing etc?
Any experiences would be very helpful prior to my purchase. I'd love to get the laptop but want to make sure it'll be sufficient for my needs.

Should be fine - I can do much more than that on my 2.0Ghz Macbook with 2G of RAM.

  • DAQmx - how does it multithread?

    Howdy,
i am using DAQmx in VC++. my question is how does DAQmx run threads? In traditional DAQ, when you perform an acquisition, it runs as a separate parallel process(if i remember right). Is it the same with DAQmx? or does it run tasks as threads within the calling application's process itself?
    thanks in advance,
    vikram

Here is some information in the following white paper that I thought would be useful to you.
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/5df09082448cbcf886256e7c0078ee9c
NI-DAQmx driver software is designed to help you significantly improve performance by exploiting the computer processor power and the memory structure of operating systems. NI-DAQmx driver software uses a multithread application structure to maximize computer processor power and implements memory-mapped registers to produce unprecedented concurrent and single-point I/O performance. As a result, you can experience up to 40 times better performance when you perform a concurrent I/O operation and 20 times faster execution speed when you perform a single-point I/O operation.
NI-DAQmx is an innovative driver software architecture that incorporates multithread technology. With multithreaded DAQ operations, you can perform an I/O operation independently in a separate thread. This guarantees faster execution speeds when you perform concurrent operations. Performing a concurrent operation, such as generating a continuous analog output waveform while acquiring a continuous analog input signal, in a single-threaded environment can be extremely challenging and can yield slow performance unless you employ complicated programming and timing techniques. Because NI-DAQmx driver software is multithreaded, it guarantees the simultaneous operation of analog input acquisition and analog output generation by assigning a separate thread to each operation. This eliminates the need to develop a complicated program to create an optimized concurrent operation. You can implement a multithreaded DAQ operation simply by using the NI-DAQmx Library.
Take an example of a synchronized AI/AO operation example program. You do not have to manually allocate separate threads for each analog input and analog output operation. The NI-DAQmx functions allocate the threads automatically. Therefore, with the NI-DAQmx Library, you can develop a multithreaded DAQ application without spending time implementing the details.

  • Does anyone run VPC and Quicken for Windows?

If you are like me, I do not think the Mac version of Quicken is good at all.
Does anyone use Quicken for Windows and VPC?
If so, how does it run?

Yes, you really have to define what your needs will be and determine if it is cost-effective and reliable enough for you. In my situation, the software (VPC) allows me to run work apps that are only available in Windows 2000 & XP. Those work fine. I can use my Powerbook for almost all my Mac and Windows stuff. The fact that I already had Quicken 2005 for Windows made it a simple matter of pulling out the disk and running the installer. That said, there are good alternatives to Quicken, such as the one mentioned earlier. I like the Mvelopes program, a web-based alternative that works well with Firefox on the Mac. I checked out MoneyDance and it looks very good, though many of my financial institutions were not listed for on-line banking.

  • Firefox update installs, but does not apprearon screen, or task manger yet is running what is going on and how does one fix it?

I installed the update Mozilla Firefox 28. It was suppose to launch upon completion. it did not appear on the monitor screen, nor the task manager, but was running; for when I attempted to install the older version again it, it said that Firefox was running and needed to be turned off.
I restarted the computer and tried opening Firefox, with the same results.
After restarting again, I attempted to reinstall the update, with the same results taking place.
I attempted to uninstall Firefox and install the new version. The same results took place.
In the past, I could install Firefox 27 update, only now I can't for the same thing takes place. Past a certain version (19), this event takes place, but 19 and older can install it with no problems.
I checked Firefox troubleshooting information. All was normal. I checked my firewall. Again, all was normal. Tried Firefox reset. Did not help. Tried with my firewall disabled. Did not solve the problem.
Ran a virus check (deep) no viruses. Checked my computer system. No errors.
I can install updates for my other programs, even install new programs; just not Firefox.
What is going on and how does one fix it.

    Hi Amseeking,
Thank you for your question. From your description, you tried to install the 28 update from a version 19 installation. Did you install a fresh install of 28 successfully? Where the name of the file is"Firefox Setup Stub 28.exe"? This is what is sound like happened. When going to about Firefox and searching for updates it installs over the current installation. However if Firefox was already running, there are more than one installation.
Updating from version 19 to 28 would not be a problem. However the user data from your previous version would have to be imported to the new installation if you have more than one install on that computer.
An easy way to tell is to search for Firefox in the Start menu to see if more than one icon shows up in the search results.
    I hope this helps.
