How does everyone hook up there Sony Beta Deck to capture in FCP?

Hello all,
I have a Sony Betacam SP UVW1800 and I am wondering how you hook it up to a Powermac G5 so I can start capturing some footage ... I am assuming that I need to get some kind of converter to firewire. Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance
G5 Quad 3 Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.8)
G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

I use an AJA Io for uncompressed capture, and I think it is really great. It does a fantastic job with the transcoding to any SD format and has been pretty much bulletproof. I would concur with Greg Jio that AJA's technical support is excellent. I have had highly educational exchanges with then evey time I have needed support.
As far as a solution that provides component input and RS-422 deck control, it's the only one I have experience with, but I highly recommend AJA solutions.
Keep in mind that working with uncompressed video requires fast drives and more stoarge space. I use a FW 800 external RAID, or an internal SATA RAID, and have heard that uncompressed will also work fine on "soft RAIDs" such as you can create by simply formatting a set of drives inside your Mac Pro case without a dedicated RAID controller card.
Hope this helps -

  • I give up Mainstage is useless how does everyone else feel?

I'm a working musician and have been using Logic for over 3 years for live performance. Imagine the joy I had last September when I learned that Mainstage was available. I was the first in my town to purchase the upgrade to Logic 8, I quickly installed it, read the manual, did some configuring hoping that mainstage would be the answer I had been waiting for for years.
Well initially I was impressed. There were some problems but I knew Apple would be right on them and a solution would be at hand shortly.
I upgraded to Leopard, had more problems, downloaded all the updates, prokits, etc. etc. had more problems! Called Support, subscribed to all the boards......yada yada yada
Took my Macbook Pro into my dealer got it checked, added more ram, even added a larger internal drive to fit all of Logic 8 on. Bought a cooling desk. Wrote and Apple Script, +*nothing helped*+
It just seemed to get worse
Finally yesterday I had a spare 5 hours so I stripped Leopard off reinstalled Tiger, Logic Studio and the rest of my stuff from scratch believing that the problem was Leopard related, even that didn't work. Mainstage still clicked, popped, puked ..................... pick an adjective.
I've been a loyal Apple customer since 1980 (I had an Apple II Plus) I currently own 3 Macs. I am really disappointed in the support this product has seen from Apple. The loss of faith in this product is apparent by the drop off in messages on all the discussion boards and this is a dangerous thing to a company I believed put it's customers first.
I have decided to give up on Mainstage I will go back to using my synths to play gigs. I feel I have come to the table to try and get Mainstage running unfortunately Apple hasn't
How does everyone else feel............... If there are any of you left out ther

I have voiced my opinion about MainStage since the beginning, thinking that maybe Apple or people who have access to the MainStage developers, would read the posts here and try and get some of these issues resolved.
MainStage is a great program conceptually. Compared to a lot of similar hosting programs out there, it has some nice implementation ideas such as sounds gradually fading out during patch changes so that reverb tails aren't cut off, extensive keyboard splits / layers, etc. and a pretty cool on screen layout for nice feedback during a live gig. There are some things that I wish Apple would have put in the program, like the ability to control external midi hardware.
However, in spite of these great ideas and thoughts, the developers, in my opinion, didn't make sure the program was rock solid as it should be for a live application. If this were a program that you could use and be able to do retakes, make corrections along the way, etc., then these bugs would be accounted for by the user and dealt with. But for a live app, when you are playing in the middle of a song, where you only get one chance to make it right, and the application locks, pops, clicks, etc. in a sporadic and unpredictable fashion, it is absolutely unacceptable.
I agree, most of the people who posted here back in the beginning have stopped because it didn't seem to make any difference. And there is usually a few users who have perfect systems. I have tried various ways to eliminate the unpredictable nature of MainStage but no such luck. Even last night at rehearsal, everthing seemed to be going along fine through the four first songs. I only had about 7 or 8 patches total and my memory usage was at about 30%. Then I change patches so we can start working on song #5. For this song I use a Native Instruments B4 patch (which also was one of two patches used in the previous song I just played). I have used this instrument many times and it has performed very well for the most part except for the occasional CPU spikes. I got about 2/3 of the way through the song and then noticed something ... I had no more sound coming from my instrument. I looked over at my MacBook and to my dismay, it was totally locked up. Needless to say, I wasn't able to finish the song because I had to reboot my machine. I know others may chime in here and ask if I had this configured or that ... and yes I have done all of these ad naseum ... this machine is soley devoted to my music rig, so its not like I am using it for games, word processing and everthing else. The bottom line is, this is another example of how quality control for this app and maybe Leopard in general has gone out the window.
I really like MainStage, I have invested a lot of time setting things up to replace my Logic live rig and have tried to hang in there hoping help would be on the way. I am not even asking for the ability to control external midi equipment (though that would be nice), I would just like to have a dependable piece of software that is made for live use, not just a toy to jam with friends in the Garage.

  • How can I hook up my Sony surround sound to Apple TV to watch streaming videos?

How can I hook up Apple TV to my Sony surround sound to watch streaming video from Netflix?

    Which Apple TV is it?
There should be outputs you can use for video/audio. The latest Apple TV has HDMI out. Find the correct cable that matches your TV and follow Sony's user manual to hook everything up correctly.

  • How does everyone else fit all their Logic stuff into a 2-screen setup?

Logic 8 comes with a beautiful setup for fitting all of the display information in one monitor, but are there any custom fit, default set-ups for a dual monitor set-up? Or do I have to make my own. Any suggestions out there for a work flow as intuitive as the one window interface that locks so well into one full screen's space? I've got two 19" (non-widescreen) Samsung's that I am looking to utilize. How did everyone else set themselves up?

Most of the time I keep an arrange window on one display (full screen), and use the other display for one of the other window types, depending on what I'm doing: piano roll, sample editor, or mixer, typically. I keep the sample editor or piano roll linked to the arrange window so that it gives me a picture of whatever I've selected in the arrange window.
On a few occasions I've found it handy to have two arrange windows, one on each display, with different zoom levels. If I have a bunch of region editing to do, for example, it can be easier to do big navigation moves in the zoomed-out arrange window and detailed stuff in the zoomed-in one.

  • How does everyone else do it then?

Argh. Perhaps some of you can help me. I've been in a heated discussion today with my boss and the head programmer about the necessity for normalizing the database. I was hired a few months ago to put a web front end on a very large legacy system running on an AS400. The data is pretty much what you find in lots of the old code - the same data stored in 10 different places, storing calculated values, composite keys using data fields, etc. Anyhow, I was trying to persuade them that this might be the reason why our new iSeries is already at 100% capacity. Not only that but its a nightmare to try and translate all of that into ejbs which are the chosen technology for putting a web front-end on all this stuff. (Not to mention the issues with debugging and maintenance). Well, when I said that I was asked - well, how do other shops do it? That's what I'd like to know. Everywhere I've ever worked has abandoned legacy code and just rewritten everything. Upper managment here absolutely refuses to allow that. Has anyone else seen a similar situation? How did they handle it? Is there a better way it could have been done? We must keep the legacy code and we must put a web front end on it.

They want to put a web front-end on it? Why? If there are problems with the AS400 then webifying it is not going to solve those problems, it can only make them worse. That's like putting makeup on a cancer victim.
Here at work I write programs that access our AS400 from the web, at least part of the time. We specifically decided not to replicate anything that already ran there (if it ain't broken, don't fix it). It did help that our AS400 wasn't broken, but it sounds like yours was. It also helped that we decided long ago to avoid duplicate RPG code, and we did succeed somewhat in that goal. (We also did this before IBM came along with Webfacing, fortunately.)
What we put on the web is new functionality that is available to customers and other outsiders. Where necessary, we modify the back-end system to provide the data to support that functionality. But we have no plans to put any of our internal systems on the web.
    That's how we do it.

  • Considering HTC 8X: How does everyone like it so far?

Hello! I have to decide between the unique and new HTC 8x of go with the safe and steadfast iphone. Any really good advice? People who have used HTC, why do you love or hate it?
I would really love the feedback. The internet is full of conflicting opinions and I want to speak with real users.
    Thank you!

It is true. Right now the user base for this OS is small. That is the price of being an early adopter. I will copy and paste my review of the device so far for you to read. It is definitely a great phone and OS and I am excited because if it takes off it will go very far!
Here is what I put in my review:
went from an iPhone, then 2 Android phones, and now this one. I found myself perplexed at first. The style, the actions, everything seems so different from iOS or Android. At first I was feeling a little out of place overall. After a day it started to grow on me. The little quirks, lack of apps, and differences where uncomfortable...but at the same time I felt like this was really a phone to be excited about and to give it time. After 3 days the little quirks where worth it 100%. There where tons of the RIGHT apps all the sudden. The simplicity and beauty of the overall phone is just astonishing. I find it strange that some people dislike it but I think it is beautiful, fluid, unique, and modern. The apps are less common but the more users the more the Store keeps growing. The actual apps I have noticed are almost all far more dynamic and exciting than their counterparts on other OSs. I keep seeing people freak out about not having Google support but it can hold on its own without Google. I would just say try this phone or even just the Windows Phone 8 OS in general...it can only get better and for being an early adopter you will probably get a lot out of it. They already are giving you perks like a thank you app. I would recommend this 100%
    P.S.-The design is striking.
    Screen- AMAZING
Camera- Sometimes my shots are crazy good and sometimes not...luckily it is easy to snap several at once.
Battery- Lasts FAR longer than any other phone I have had (I also keep the brightness on full to show off the screen)"
The iPhone has truly turned into a fab instead of something ground breaking so now people just go crazy and act like lemmings. They don't look around and judge everyone else haha...yes when it first came out I would say get one...now I would say why? There are much better options out there! As for bugs I see a lot of people have been having them...I have not yet. If I have they are so far and few that I don't notice (compared to my Android). I am 100% behind this OS and want to see it grow because I know once it gets the user base it will explode! They even have a site where the users VOTE on what they want changed in the OS and they intend on doing so in the next major update. I could keep going and going (I should go work for Windows Phone haha)

  • How does everyone manage Email Distribution Lists in E-Business Suite

We have heaps of email distribution lists stored in Oracle Ebusiness Suite, excel, access ..you name it!
I would like to use a standard method for tagging contacts in the CRM Sales and Marketing Online so our employees can run reports to create external mailing lists.
Today we use classification codes to do this. Have also thought about using a descriptive flex field and report on that to create a contact list with name and email addresses.
Anybody have a better idea for how to achieve this in Oracle Marketing/Sales Online?
Ideally, we would like to create a customer facing website so people could subscribe/unsubscribe from email lists and have it fully integrated 'plugged in' to the above solution.

    Thanks Ravi for your response.
No, no such kind of reasons.
Indeed I can send successfully to a simple email address but not to the distribution list ...
The problem is right there, in the fact that there is a ditribution list but I really don't know what's the problem ...
Have you ever use a distribution list? Any special thing to do with it?
    A'll appreciate any help.
    Regards

  • How does everyone handle sweep data from loops

There's a type of test I've done a few times over the years and I'm researching what are some standard ways to handle the data in TestStand. The test type is sweeping multiple parameters in a nested loop. For example, sweep Vcc from 5.1V to 5.5V in .1V steps, at each voltage sweep Q DC Bias from 1.9 to 2.3 in steps of .2, and at each Q DC Bias sweep LO Drive Level from -5 to -20 dBm in steps of .5 dBm. For each input combination record IM3 Suppression. This example produces 310 data records.
If I did all this inside a single code module I could pass it back to TestStand as four arrays, one for each input param and one for the data. Done. I'd still need to log it.
What if I want to do the looping in TestStand? Here's how I could collect data.
    1. Record the three params and one data into the ResultList as single points with Numeric Limit steps and sort it out in some datalogger callback.
    2. Collect four arrays or a 2D array in Locals and then copy the arrays into the ResultList as four arrays (or 1 2D), not as scalars in #1 above. Log it in some datalogger callback.
    3. Collect four arrays or a 2D array in Locals and just use a code module in the client sequence to save the data.
    4. Any others?
    Thanks

    Hi dowNow,
I can't immediately think of any significantly different alternatives to accomplish what you are wanting to do.  In the past, I have personally used the external code module to do the looping and measurements and then returned the data as a 2-D array.  You can then add this array to the ResultList.  This has typically given me the most efficient tests and the simplest overall setup.
Additionally, I am not sure if you are planning to store the results in a Database, but if you are, you will need to keep in mind that logging a 2-D array to a Database works differently than a 1-D array.  I have included a link to one of our KnowledgeBase articles that details exactly how to store a 2-D array in a Database:  http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/1307679F845B162286257160000510ED

  • How does AppleCare  work if there are no Apple stores in the area?

Asking this for my mother who just purchased an iPhone 6 based on my suggestion that it was the easiest to learn coming from a flip phone.
She leaves in Ocala, FL and there are no Apple retail stores in the vicinity.   When I looked up for 'authorized repair locations' the closest was over 45 minutes away in Gainesville, FL.    Is there a way to purchase AppleCare+ and have local support within the greater Ocala, FL area... via Best Buy (where we got the phone), Verizon Wireless (our service) or any other repair services?   Otherwise I may need to consider SquareTrade.   Verizon and Best Buy insurance is very expensive for a 2 year plan.
I just want something where she will not be without a phone for days if it needs to be repaired.
    Thanks for your reply,

Another thing to consider. Square Trade, and the insurance you are talking about are different than Apple Care +. Apple Care + is an extension of the manufacturer's warranty. Square Trade and the Verizon and Best Buy insurance are just that, to cover the device if lost or stolen. That does not cover warranty work. Only Apple warranties the device. You are actually lucky there is an Apple Store that close. My closest one is 2 hours away. Others are less fortunate than that. But, as rbrylawski indicated, you can call Apple Care and ship the device to Apple for warranty service if necessary. The easiest way to prevent her from being without a phone is to take it to the store, but you can also ask for Apple Care to ship a phone to her before she sends hers back, but that requires a credit card and they put a hold for the cost of the phone until they receive the phone back.

  • 3 users sharing itunes on 1 imac. How does everyone's library listing refresh when all 3 users are loading music from their own screens?

3 users sharing itunes in shared folder on one imac computer. What can we do to "refresh" our individual library listing to list music loaded by other 2 users? We listen to books in the car via ipods. How can books I have loaded show up on other 2 library listings and vice-versa? Had a couple of instances where 2 of us loaded the same book because we didn't know the other had already loaded it!!!

It sounds like you are using individual libraries (each user has library files in their iTunes folder) but shared media.  iTunes doesn't have an active way of scanning a shared media folder for new additions.  You will just have to tell each other that something has been added to each person can add the media information to their libraries.  The only other ways I know of are to using a single user library (many disadvantages to that too, especially with 3 of you), or to use Home Sharing which also has disadvantages.

There is no requirement that you add or delete items, but it can be helpful. The URL is https://supportprofile.apple.com/ and to delete, you click the "Edit Products" button near the top right of that page.

  • Elgato EyeTV. How does it work?

Ok I know this isnt technically OSX related but I am very interested in what Eye TV has to offer and I would like to know exactly what I would need to do to get it to record from my Sky Digibox. Elgatos website isnt the most informative, so I was hoping someone who has EyeTV would be able to answer my questions.
Basically if i bought EyeTV how does it hook up to my Sky box and is there anything extra I need to purchase to get it to work? What is a conditional access module?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

What is a conditional access module?
A conditional access module (CAM) is used for pay per view or subscriber cards to decrypt scrambled TV content.
Unfortunately you cannot use elgato's sattelite receiver to receive sky digital.
To record your sky digi box you would need the eyetv 200, this device will accept any video source though a composite or s-video input.
You would need to connect your sky box to the eyetv 200.
have a read of ifelix's eyetv guide.

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two? also I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own?
Yes, it is possible. 1 apple ID can be associated with up to 10 devices.
If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps?
    Yes, all purchases are non-transferable.
How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?
Every device associated with one apple ID through Find my iPhone is tied to that Apple ID; Find my iPhone will work in the same way with up to ten devices associated with one apple ID. You cannot enable Find my iPhone for one device across two apple IDs
I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?
If you have authorized a computer with the old apple ID, you can transfer old media purchased through the old to other devices via iTunes. This doesn't mean the media purchases through the old apple ID it transferred to the new account. If you plan to make future purchases and don't wish to share them with others, make your own apple ID.

  • External video projector - How can I hook up my Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter onto my new MacBookAir if the machine does not have a mini port (but only 2 USBs and 1 Thunderbolt)?

    Hi
How can I hook up my DVI Adapter onto my new MacBookAir if the machine does not have a mini port (but only 2 USBs and 1 Thunderbolt)?
Is there a DVI adaptor already for Thunderbolt?
    Thanks,
    JFR

The Mini Display port and Thunderbolt port use compatible connector bodies. Your current Mini Display to DVI or VGA adapter will still work as before on the newer Thunderbolt capable machines.
