How does one delete restored email from time machine?

I would like to delete recovered email from the time machine that I no longer need these. How do I delete these?

Right click should give the option to "Delete all Backups of [file or folder name]".
If it doesn't, check the permissions of the folder on your HD.

  • Can't restore email from Time Machine

I am running 10.7.2.  When I try to restore emails from Time Machine by making Mail the active application and entering Time Machine, nothing happens.  I do get a message that Finder is not responding.
I don't have this problem if I am trying to restore contacts from Address Book or files from Finder.
I have checked the TM disk, and there are no problems.  I have also repaired permissions.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • How can i delete a 'backups' from time machine for a computer i no longer have

i have been using my time capsule for a few years now, everything was great until my imac died and i had to replace it
when i did, the time capsule worked perfectly, as it allowed me to "migrate" all my backed up data onto my new machine, joy
but now, as it wants to start its backups of the new imac, there just isnt enough disk space on the drive, and i suspect this is due to every file on my new machine is marked as never have being backed up which means i need like 400G, and most of the time capsule's space is still consumed by the old backups
how can i remove this old back up from the time capsule without reformatting the whole drive (i have other machines that are still using the backup service and i dont want that interrupted)
it just seems like, since i am no longer on the old machine, i cant access that machine's backup in order to delete them (through the time machine interface), and i cant seem to find a single tutorial on how to do this that is written in non-programmer speak (i really dont feel comfortable cracking open terminal and command-lining this sort of thing)
am i just nuts or is this really all that uncommon a problem with no easy solution?!?
any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance

  • How does one delete specific photos from ipod touch 2nd gen (with ios 4.2.1)?

I would like to delete some photos from my ipod touch 2g, ios 4.2.1, but I can't just sync it to my (new) computer because then all of them would get deleted because I don't have the photos that I have on my ipod on my new computer. Help!?
    Thanks

    - You can email the ones you want to retain and the restore the the iPod on the the new computer
    - You can use a third-party like PhoneView or TouchCopy (both paid) and maybe the free
iFunBox for Mac | File Manager, Browser, Explorer, Transferer for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
tio copy them to the computer.

  • How does one delete all emails in iOS 8?

Since there isn't an option to mark all for deletion, I am tired of checking or swiping each individual email to delete.  I tried the technique of marking all read, checking one email, press/hold move button while unchecking, moving what appears to be all my mail selected and watching it slide to the trash; but when I check trash to delete all from there, it's empty and all the mail is back where it was.  HELP!  Am I missing something (I am an iPhone newbie but not a techie neophyte) or did something this simple get overlooked?

There is no option/settings on the iphone to delete all email message.  You would need to go to edit - then select the emails you want to delete.
if you have an imap email account, you can do a mass delete on your computer and it will reflect on your iphone.

  • Restoring email from Time  Machine

I have numerous email accounts in Mail, and I apparently made a significant blunder today.
I noticed that my Gmail POP account hadn't download any email since February, which seemed odd since I use that account a lot; and I have been get Gmail messages on my MacBook.
I noticed that my Gmail on the MacBook is configured for IMAP (although the same address is used on each machine).  I decided to create an IMAP account on my iMac to be consistent. I had to delete the old POP account first.
I didn't expect all of my Gmail messages in my iMac inbox to disappear, since they had been downloaded already!  That iMac account has been used for at least a decade and has thousands more messages than are on my MacBook. I need to get those messages back.  How do I restore my whole Mail scenario to what it was a couple days ago? Specifically, what files/folders do I need to restore?

Hopefully restore from a backup >  OS X Mavericks: Restore items backed up with Time Machine
Charles  ...  you posted in the Mac OS X Mavericks forum so that's all I had to go on as far as OS X goes.

  • How do I get old emails from Time Machine into a new Mail?

I have (I hope) email data in Time machine as of April 8  which I can't figure out how to get into my newly reinstalled version of Mail.
I took over my brother-in-law's iMac on April 8, and closed his User ID, saving it in a .dmg file.  Now that he has a new computer, he would like his old emails, so I reactivated his user ID, and reinstalled his email accounts in Mail as of May 27.  When I look at the Time Machine Backups drive, there is a data folder for April 8, but when I open my newly re-installed Mail and click on Time Machine it only goes back to May 27.
Is there a way to get at the April 8 data?
    Thanks,
    jrguest1

I set up an admin account for myself, logged on to it, and then followed the procedure in the help file to delete his account, saving it as a .dmg file.  Then, when he asked for his old emails, I followed the procedure in the help file to restore a deleted user account and copied the contents of the .dmg into it.
I'm not entirely confident I got the restoration sequence right, since I find the order of steps in the help file confusing. But everything except the Mail data seems to be recovered.
Another source of trouble may be the email account settings:  when I opened Mail under his log-on, there were no accounts set up: I recreated them using his email address and password, but Mail may well be treating these as new accounts, rather than re-opened old accounts.
    Thanks, John

  • Restoring email from time machine on a fresh install

I'm afraid of spyware or other unsolicited software being installed previously on my computer with OSX 10.5, so I just did a fresh install of Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.
I have a time machine backup of my old 10.5.
I want to restore only emails, photos and documents.... everything else I want a fresh start.
If I use Migration Assistant, I need to choose applications in order to restore emails.... but that would also restore many other applications that I don't want.
I have bought a new copy of most of the software I need to be installed, so I just want to restore emails, photos and documents.
If I activate Time Machine, it will erase the disk I already have and start from scratch backing up on it.... I would like to use the backup I have to selectively restore certain areas....
    Can somebody help!!
    Thanks,

This is the Leopard forum. You would get a faster answer on the Mountain Lion forum.

  • How does one erase their email from firefox sync or get a regenerated recovery key if they deleted their account info?

I set up a sync account long time ago and lost my recovery key. I read that if you delete your sync account, it would remove all data. I tried to create a new account but I keep getting the error that my email is already being used. Then I read how to regenerate a new recovery key, but I can't complete the task because my account info has been deleted. How is my account deleted and my email is still showing as an active sync account? Is there a way to recover my email with out having to recreate a new sync with a new email address?

Okay, I am thouroughly annoyed right now because, as I mentioned earlier, I had deleted my account and it still wanted to say that my email was active. Going against all means of logic, I used my email to reset my password (which recreated my ability to login), logged in, and deleted my account (again) and that seemed to do the trick. Why didn't it just do that in the first place?
Oh well, at least it is working now.

  • How do I delete all backups of Time Machine in OSX 10.7.2?

I had some huge photo files (100gb) that were on my computer for a few weeks and have now been processed and deleted. I suspect that Time Machine backed them up on my external hard drive. How can I delete all backups from Time Machine and start with a fresh series of backups?
    Tks

    That would work also.
I like to reformat the disk just to rebuild the directory when I clean one.

    Hey there Matt.dvs1,
Although there is not a way to remove past purchases from your iTunes account completely, you can hide them so that you don't have to see them if you don't want to. This article will help you do that:
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
    Hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from the top of the window.
A list of your purchased items for the content type you are viewing will appear. Mouse over the item you want to hide until an X appears its top-left corner.
A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the X.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • How to restore files from Time Machine after Clean Install of Mavericks

How to restore files from Time Machine after Clean Install of Mavericks. I know the data is there but seems unaccessable because I may have changed the Computer or Owner name. Is there any way to fix that now?

    Hi Linc,
my back-up data is managed by Time Machine; the actual data is on a second internal Hard Drive with a capacity of 1TB - not partitioned. I am using Time Machine and have access to all data backed up since Mavericks Clean Install but not the data prior to this date.
When I open the 1TB drive in Finder I can see a folder "Backups.backupdb/Sigi's Mac Pro/ followed by many folders of backup dates going back to 2010-09-20-103441 and up to 2014-02-07-142414 all followed with folder Macintosh HD.  February 7th  2014 was the date of the clean install.
These Backups are followed by backup date folder 2014-02-08-075554 with a subfolder of MacPro-320GB (this is the name I assigned to my Boot Drive during formatting; I suspect I should have assigned the same name as before ie. Macintosh HD) and 2014-02-11 with a subfolder Macintosh HD, these are the ones I get access to by way of Time Machine > Restore.
Weird thing is on Febr 11 when I relised my possible mistake and renamed the Bootdrive back to what it was initially ie. Macintosh HD despite this I have access to all backup data since the Clean Install in both folders MacPro-320GB as well as Macintosh HD but not to any data prior to the Clean Install.
Is there something that Time Machine knows and prevents access or is it simply a matter of renaming the subfolder 2014-02-08-07554/MacPro-320GB to ........./Macintosh HD?
I like to restore selectively and not everything - It was hard work reinstalling apps that were supposed to be the troublemakers (ref my discussion on Maverick problems) but I now need to get onto data specific to some of these apps as well as other data I may have missed. Long story? Yes and sorry.
    Sigi
