How does one Invert a video clip ?
I have shot air sequences using a mini video camera bolted uspside down on a RC model glider and filming the scenery reflected on a mirror canted at 45°
(No, I am not an overly complicated person: it just happens that the hardware I used -a very small chip recording camera: 24 grams- was sold to me in that configuration...)
My problem now is to put things right !
How can I do this using Final Cut Express (to say nothing of iMovie...), bearing in mind I am essentially a not too seasoned iMovie user ?

One doesn't.
Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays. That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind to Original.

Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentioned, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.

Step 1 - how does one create a video track in FCP X?
Just purchased FCP X & wow ... sparing all the rants I've been hearing, I'm sure it can do what I'm looking for, just that all the features are now hidden from view.
Step 1 - anyone know how to create additional video tracks?Tried that & a Pandora's box of other questions opened up. Doing some research, watching videos, etc... just need to scrap most/all knowledge of previous FCP versions & start from scratch with this new interface philosophy it would seem.
One other symptom that seems disturbing: sometimes activiating a feature does not activate a feature.
Example, I wanted to silence the audio while skimming, so unchecked "audio skimming" in the view menu.
Audio still plays while skimming.
Decided to try unchecking all four options at the bottom of the view menu (skimming, clip skimming, audio skimming, snapping).
Nothing changed.
I can still skim clips, and audio still plays.
Why would this happen? -

I tried that today and got a .mov annotated file, which had nothing but a black screen when I tried to play it. V. 9.4.1. Is there a setting I've got wrong? I chose "current" instead of .jpg.

How does one create a video cross dissolve without an audio cross fade in FCP-X??

This is a no brainer in 'legacy' Final Cut, but I am completely stumped in FCP-X. Situation is thus:
Main story line consists of a speaker. I would like to drop stills onto/into the storyline while the speaker continues uninterrupted. I've tried connecting to the storyline, overwriting to the storyline, creating a secondary storyline, creating transitions with available media, with full overlap -- all for naught. The outgoing bits of the cross dissolve have a weird audio hiccup that I cannot get rid of. I simply want to fade a still in and fade it out (I appreciate I could keyframe opacity with a still connected to the main storyline, but that seems slightly nuts -- this should be a keystroke). I am assuming I'm missing something -- possibly something really simple, so, apologies for being a dolt, but I could really use a hand here.

longstriderDetach the audio using Control-Click. The audio will then have its own fade that you can adjust. If you want to cross fade audio clips just overlap another audio clip by placing it below the first audio clip. Overlap can be adjusted for the amount of time you want for a dissolve. You can also pull the fade control in the vertical middle of the end of each audio clip to make an audio fade in/out. Holding that fade control while pressing the Control key gives you the option to select different types of fade curves. Hope this helps.

Premier After Effects... How does one places the whole movie clip into AF?
After years of using Premiere, I’m looking at using After Effects. Premiere does most of what I need (I don’t need moving graphics and titles) but the masking and rotoscoping seems to be better in After Effects. I’ve started a great video by Tom Green at school. This is probably silly question- I don’t understand is how does one places the whole movie clip into AF? I only see 30 seconds or so of the 5 minute clip on the timeline in AF.

A new problem: When I try a dynamic link with premiere AE says “Failed to connect to adobe Premiere Pro Dynamic Link”, but PP will link with AE. I just installed AF last week. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall them (along with the rest of the Creative Suite)? -
I have a MacAir, mid 2011 model, and want to view video on my TV. I see that I need a mini display port to Hdmi but there are many of these. What exatly do I need and how does one go about viewing a movie downloaded to the MacAir on a TV screen?

To select multiple clips, hold down the command key as you click multiple clips. Then you can drag them all at once.
To drag all clips at once, select one, then Edit/Select All. Then drag them all. -
How does one update Flash? I currently cannot watch videos on You Tube, it says I need to upgrade, I have no problem doing this on a PC.
If you're not using chrome you can just go to adobe's website (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) and download the newest flash player. You run the .dmg and then open the application, which updates flash. With the latest version of flash there should be a preference pane within system preferences to allow you to change settings and check for updates.

How can I blend two video clips where they join side by side in one movie?
I know how to place two or more video clips together in the same movie, but how can I give them a bit of a blend just where they join?
I have a PDF instruction manual and the built-in web browser instructions. In the instruction manual in "Chapter 7: Superimposing and Compositing" it talks about the transparency of any video clip, and I understand that... but I don't want to make one or the other video clip transparent anyplace except where the two video clips join together with perhaps a bit of overlap.
I'd like to make a little blur just where the two videos join in the middle... is this possible?

Set the two clip on top of each other
Make a matte in Photoshop and superimpose this over the two clips.
Go to the Transparancy Settings and set the top clip in video 2 to Alpha key.

How does one test to see if clipping has occurred and if recording levels have been too high?
Many Thanks, Frank B.You could open the file in Soundtrack Pro (Shift + W as default). There you can check if the file is clipped. On the left part of the SP screen you see the Analysis tab. Click it and choose Clipped signal and press the Analyze button.
It might take some time so if you want you can chose a section of the file where it´s most probable clipping has occured.
You can also chose to Fix it in SP. You can try it to see if it makes things better. But of course it´s better to redo it in Logic, if possible.

How does one manage these new render setting for previews?
I placed 4 HD clips from a nested into a sequence 5800 x 768 to mimic 4 side by side monitors for a multi channel video. Each clip cut from the sequence are at 1280x720 all sitting side by side. However when I rendered the previews, they came look all squished. However when I exported the frame it looks fine in Photoshop. (I changed the uploaded image to what it looks like in Premiere in Photoshop to demonstrate the appearance in Premiere.)
I imagine that the distortion has to do with the sequence render setting which for some reason comes out to 1918 x 253...or the pixel aspect ratio? How does one manage these new render setting for previews so it looks normal in the monitor?
Either way, I thought that this format would be a great way to view on the monitor 4 channels at the same time. I may need to place them on a “normal” 1440 x 1080 sequence in a line, bringing them down to 25% scale to make it work in the end. I did just try that. I think it will work...but when I imported and nested the old file, the scratch disks changed from the original set up on a D drive back to the main hard drive so I had to change it agin. Otherwise it works fine...so I’ll go with this for now

thanks for your quick reply to my java.sun.com forum posting! i just got back from vacation, so i didn't get a chance to try your method til now. i pulled your email address off the website to update you on my problem playing an avi file in JMStudio (JMF).
as per your instructions, i downloaded the divx player at www.divx.com and tried to play the avi file. this is the error the divx player gives:

The file contains unknown video data
The file contains the following type of data:
Video data: FOURCC code "MP42"
You may need to install a new video codec on your computer to watch this video
Some quick questions:
1. Where could I find the "MP42" codec to play my avi file in JMStudio (JMF)? Does java.sun.com have video codecs?
2. You mentioned in your posting "If you don't have the one that was used in the encoding, your out of luck." Does this mean that I need to know how the avi file was originally coded and have the original codec to decode (play) it?

sounds to me like you are missing a video codecs. If you don't have the one that was used in the encoding, your out of luck. Download the player from divx.com, it will tell you which codecs the video needs (if it won't play). You can then search the net for that particular codecs. -
How does one use an external microphone with the internal camera?
I want to use the internal camera because I don't have anything better but I want to use an external mic to record video and sound simultaneously, for a video blog. How does one accomplish this? I'm getting no help from the manual.
Try this. Connect your external mic, either through the audio line in port or, into a USB port if it is a USB mic and then go to System Preferences under the Apple and select the Sound icon under Hardware. Click on your mic shown in the list of input devices.

as the I-Photo is not supported by Video Clips ( Previous Leopard )
No problem clip and drag via Quick Time Pro to the email and select the Attchment size to send. . Depending on the
Size of the Video Clip .. Now Lion only Export's 1 size, . only and as a result . . teh File is TOO Large and
Will NOT send via E-Mail ???
Between the Issue of the Lion, and Email issues , and the Upgrade of I-Touch to 5.1 from 4.2.1
as my Photo Size is Huge .. 70,000 + photos in the Computer. . and was 40,000 in the I - Touch .. .
