How does Pages store images?

I need to understand how Pages stores images. I recently lost a few iphotos due to a disk problem. When I opened my Pages docs, those particular images were missing from them also (and from my backups). From what I've found on this forum, it seems Pages creates its own copies of the images. Can any one tell me why I lost the ones in my document? How to prevent it?
Thank you!

I have no experience of your problem, but the photos are stored in the Pages files. In the Finder, ctrl-click or right-click on the file and choose "Show Package Content". There inside somewhere are the pictures hidden.

Firefox saves downloads to wherever you specify. Check your settings in Tools > Options > General, Download section. If you have it set to "Always ask me where to save files", then only you know where they were saved.

  • How do I store images in a jar file to be displayed on a jsp?

    Afternoon all,
I have created a java component which accepts some parameters and returns a string. The returned string contains html tags to display a table in a webpage when rendered through a browser.
I want to be able to add this component to any java web project to display my table. The problem is that I want to use images in my table to give the appearance of curved corners.
How do I store images in my component and render to a webpage?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

You won't be able to make the install of this library as simple as the installation of a jar file. You can't access the images directly in the jar.
There are a few approaches you can take:
    1 - jar file + resources:
Have the install as being a jar and a "resources" directory which you store all the images in. Thus the images become part of the web application/web site and are accessible. Probably need to allow an entry in web.xml to configure where/what this directory is called.
    2 - jar file only:
Provide a servlet to access the images, which will load them from the jar file, using the ClassLoader.getResourceAsStream(). Requires declaration of a servlet in the web.xml file. Won't be as efficient as having the images on disk, but will keep them bundled in the jar file.
you would generate code such as <img src="myImgServlet?img=.....">

  • Why and how does Adobe Store's policy deliberately impede Least Developed Countries from developing?

    Hi there,
My name is Dr Eric Mousset. I currently reside in Cambodia, having the privilege to serve as (international) Technical Assistant to support a Government project that is co-funded by the Royal Government of Cambodia and the World Bank, and purposed to Higher Education Capacity and Quality Improvement.
My mission implies conducting a survey on skills demand by employers and skills supply by Higher Education Institutions, in order to better inform further policy development.
Among the expected policy outcomes: a more effective alignment between skills supply and job market needs.
Among the desired policy impacts: providing the Cambodian economy with the HR skills that are required for its growth and diversification.
I am impressed by the combined capabilities of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and Adobe Forms Central. And until this morning it was on top of my shortlist of surveying tools.
Unfortunatley, while attempting to upgrade to FormsCentral's "Plus" plan, I have received the following reply from Adobe:
    Unsupported Country
    Thus here is my question:
Why and how does Adobe Store's policy deliberately impede Least Developed Countries from developing?
    Yours sincerely,
    Dr Eric Mousset

    Hi;
I can't speak to the business decisions that lead to which countries we enable purchasing subscriptions in the store, but I can guarantee you that it is not to impede anyones development.
A credit card with an address in any of the supported countries can be used for purchasing the subscription, this has enabled many to get around the issue, but that is the only way to subscribe.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Does Pages store cached versions of documents?

My USB just died with my 10-page essay on it. I was working on it with Pages, so does Pages store cached versions of files? I don't have enough time to retype it, so am I screwed?

Their copies are saved in .MobileDocuments. It's hidden. Open Terminal and type:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    killall Finder
Finally, open Finder, select the USB disk and go to .MobileDocuments

  • How does RH7 handle Images?

Could someone please take a moment and tell me how RH7
handles images? Does RH7 keep images in their location and just
reference them...i.e. If I create an image folder on the server,
will it just reference them from there or does it create a copy of
the image and store them elsewhere?
I have a very large help site and with multiple section, and
we merge them all together. Each section has many images - with
some images used across sections. I am trying to figure out the
most efficient way to handle them. Based on the help here, I have
decided that snippets will be the best option. However, in order
for me to use them effectively I need to understand the underlying
process. Also, does anyone have a better suggestion on how this
    could be done?
Thanks in advance for the assist.

Images must be in the project. When you import an image, it
is copied to your project. It cannot be outside.
Even with merged help, the images have to be within the
specific project and that can mean duplication.

  • Anybody use Word Perfect?  How does 'Pages' compare?

For anyone who wants to cut to the quick, just read the question....the last paragraph.
I need some comfort. It's probably normal to get frustrated with a new Word Processing program like 'Pages' after only 2 days of using it so I'm willing to be patient, but I have a general question, which actually appears in the Title of this post.
I've used Word Perfect on my non-Mac computers for 20 years and although the program is without equal in it's sophistication and ease of use (IMO), I do believe it caused some big problems for other programs on my computer (incompatibility problems with other software). I've wanted an iMac for a long time just to get rid of all the problem I had with those other computers, thinking I'd be rid of WordPerfect, which I blamed for many of the problems. I wanted a fresh, clean start, so I sure don't want to mess up my 2 day-old iMac by loading up a word-processor like WordPerfect again....that'll just mess everything up again.
But I have mixed emotions. After my past experience with Word Perfect, it's just hard for me to believe that the WP people actually got rid of all their bugs, and wouldn't inadvertently stick them all into an Apple product. I'm paranoid, I know. I'm asking this question because word-processing is the most important thing to me in using a computer and I found WordPerfect to be perfect, as a word-processor, that is.
I'm certainly willing to give 'Pages' a fair try, and hope it works out for me. But, is there anyone here who uses WordPerfect on their Mac (and with which OS) and does it cause you any problems? Also, in your opinion how does it compare with 'Pages'?

I was an avid WP user (DOS, AtariST, and Mac versions) for years and I was a beta tester for the Atari and Mac versions. I was never all that impressed with the Windows versions. When the program was sold to Novel support and quality became uneven and after Novel sold it to Corel, well, let's let sleeping dogs lie, eh?
Pages isn't WP - it is a consumer word processor and desktop publishing program. Still it is quite powerful and easy to use...once you accept its conventions. That is a sticking point for a lot of people. With OS X, Apple has taken the toolbar and adapted it to its own purpose. Unlike some programs that attempt to put every command in toolbars, Apple prefers to target a smaller number and allow the user some ability to custom it. Apple has also adopted the idea of palettes - one palette actually. The inspector. In OS X the inspector is used to take commands that might be buried in the menu hierarchy and puts them out front. With Pages, like many OS X programs, getting to know the Inspector is key to using Pages.
As I said, Pages isn't WP or MS Word. That's good and bad. The good is that the program is cleaner and easier to learn. It also means that lots of features you might consider important are missing. You should have a demo version of iWork on your new iMac and you have 30 days to use it before you have to decide to keep it or ditch it.

  • How I can store Image file in a database

Can any one how i can stored image file in a database and then by using same database how i can show in HTML page...(in a browser)

This is not something that can be answered easily. There is quite alot of code involved....
To get started I suggest you read up on the built-in package 'DBMS_LOB' from Oracle . Most of what you need you should find there.
    regards Dave.

  • How does AppleScript store user input?

    So another question,
if I were to put the following into an AppleScript:
set password to text returned of (display dialog "Enter your password" default answer "" with hidden answer)
does AppleScript store this as clear text? If so, how long does it retain this?
    Thanks!

does AppleScript store this as clear text? If so, how long does it retain this?
It doesn't store it at all - well, other than in memory as the variable password
Since it's in memory, if someone were able to dump the contents of your system's memory they could, conceivably, see the value, but it wouldn't be obvious.
Like all AppleScript variables, it's value is lost as soon as it goes out of scope - typically when the script ends, unless you're in a handler, in which case it is discarded as soon as the current handler returns, even if the main script continues to run. For example:
    on run
my doSomething() -- call the doSomething() handler
display dialog myPassword -- error - myPassword is not defined
    end run
    on doSomething()
set myPassword to text returned of (display dialog "Enter your password" default answer "" with hidden answer)
display dialog myPassword -- works because you're inside the handler where myPassword is defined
    end doSomething
In this case the run handler calls doSomething() which asks for the password and displays it in a dialog. When the handler returns, though, the variable is lost and can no longer be used.

  • How Does Elements Store Photos?

Is just gotten version 11 for the mac.  I imported one folder of images (which has subfolders) to try out the organizer.  I think I need to understand better what Elements is doing with my images before I proceed.
When I look at the left pane, I see Albums (there are none yet) and My Folders.  There I see the folders of images that were imported.  They are all shown at the same level, with no subfolders.
This leads me to believe Organizer is not actually making copies of my images and importing them, but merely creating a catalogue that points to them.  Do I have that right?  I can use Albums to organize the photos, but once again, the Albums won't contain the photos, but only point to them, correct?
My photos are woefully organized in folders on my hard drive.  I'm almost thinking that before I import into Elements, I should get my folders organized and cleaned up outside of Elements.  Even though I could have good Album structure in Elements. it bothers me that down there at the actual folder level, it's all a piece of @#%&.  Can I use Organizer to do that folder organizing even before I start the Album organizing?
How does Elements handle editing of images?  iPhoto (which copies photos into its catalog), keeps a version of the original when editing is done.  Does Elements do that, or is there only one version of IMG_001 no matter how many edits are applied to it?
If the images are kept in my original folder structure and I edit an image outside of Elements, when I open the image in Elements, do I get the edited image?
I'm trying to decide between iPhoto and Elements, mainly for organizing purposes, so answers to these questions will help me decide.  I appreciate your help.

Under normal circumstances, the organizer is just a database: it merely makes entries for the photos you import, without copying anything. The one exception is the "from iphoto" command, which duplicates the photos in your iphoto library in another location (although, again, the copies are not stored "in" PSE). The reason for this is that poking around at the iphoto library from outside iphoto is a sure way to eventually corrupt the library and lose the photos it contains.
If a photo is in the organizer, you can save as many PSE versions as you like. This is one advantage that organizer has over iphoto. You also have access to all the versions all the time (unlike iphoto where you must lose your edited version to get back to the original.) Overall, I would not say that organizer is a clear winner over iphoto, but this is probably the biggest point on its side in the debate.

  • How does Flex cache images??

To my understanding, in straight HTML the browser caches image files such that upon return visits (all other things being equal) the browser obtains the image from a browser cache rather than re-downloading.
Does/can flex make use of the same browser cache?   More specifically, if my flex app downloads a large image file; then the visitor closes his/her browser before reopening it and navigating back to my flex app URL where does the same large image file come from, the imageServer again or from some sort of cache?
For that matter is the flex app itself cached by the browser such that (assuming no changes were made between visits) a return visit to my flex app url does NOT require the re-download of the app from the server (I know HTML has this capability but not sure about the HTML "wrapper page" which launches the flex app).
    Thanks in advance,

Sorry for being newbie obtuse but are you saying that FP (Flex Project I assume)'s are an Active X (application) and thus IE does utilize its cache for all HTTP based communications???
If so then as I understand it, the typical Flex Project has an HTML wrapper which then loads the Flex App (I assume using HTTP).  Subsequent Flex<--->Server communications can be HTTP or other format (AMF which I believe BenForta indicated was HTTP "wrapped" as well but at the moment I am less concerned with this).
As such is the following correct?
1.)  IE Browser hits HTML page (url) ----> IE checks its cache; If exists compares vs current version on server; If different download from server else load from cache
2.)  HTML page calls Flex App (using HTTP???) ----> IE again compares Flex App in cache (if exists) vs. server and if same load else download
3.)  Flex App retrieves image file names via <mx:RemoteObject> ----- I don't see how browser cache can be used here as results not known until after dbase query completes
4.)  Flex App uses <mx:RemoteObject> results to retrieve large .jpg files  ---- do these "pass through" the browser (and therefore load and/or store in cache) or are they purely "Flex contained" (and if so does flex have any automatic cache or do I have to perhaps store the jpgs in a shared object if I hope to reuse them without a download)???

  • How does google find images

Does anyone understand how google finds images? I am a sculptor, my website is http://web.mac.com/phelpssculpture/iWeb/
I just did a google search of david phelps sculpture and my site came up in decent ranking. Then I got the bright idea to switch to google image search and found one of my sculptures on
    http://web.utk.edu/~wmorgan/Suttree/oarsman.htm
but no images from my site came up. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, David
    ibook & imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi David...
I think Google just categorizes the filesnames that it finds in the HTML of your pages and if they can be associated with appropriate URLs then they get
indexed. It probably just recognizes the file extensions, like .jpg or .tiff.
I don't know of a specific way to get images into the Google index. You could probably add the specific URL paths to your images to a sitemap or something. That might do it.

  • How does iPad store photos when connected to Windows?

I've recently upgraded to iPad2. A friend is interested in buying my original iPad 32gb because she loves iPhoto and would like to move her current 10 gb photo library into it. Uploading new photos from her camera to the iPad is easy with the card reader.  But how could she handle backup of photo files going forward since she works in the Windows world and her primary OS is Windows 7?
I know that when I upload pictures to the iPad in the field and then connect the iPad to my computer at home the Image Capture program asks me if I want to import the photos and where to put them.  Does a similar event take place when using Windows?

Yes - the windows camera wizard should open : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . Or they can be manually copied from the iPad as it will appear as a 'camera' in windows explorer (in a similar way to how a memory card in a card reader would).

  • How does Java store floating point numbers?

    Hello
I'm writing a paper about floating point numbers in which I compare an IEEE-754 compatible language [c] with Java. I read that Java can do a conversion decimal->binary->decimal and retain the same value whereas c can't. I found several documents discussing the pros and cons of that but I can't find any information about how it is implemented.
I hope someone can explain it to me, or post a link to a site explaining it.
    Cheers
    Huttu

    So it is a myth.
I still ask because I observed a oddity: When I store 1.4 in c and printf( %2.20f\n",a); it I get 1.39999999999999991118. If I do the same in Java with System.out.printf( %2.20f\n",a); I get 1.4. If I multiply the variable with itself I get 1.95999999999999970000:
    double a=1.4;
    a=a*a;
    System.out.printf( %2.20f\n",a);
    {code}
Does this happen because of the rounding in Java?
