How does PrE 9 fix audio levels automatically?

Hi,
In one of my projects, I'm combining multiple pieces of footage with different audio levels. I've read somewhere that PrE 9 fixes audio levels automatically. How do I use this? Where is this feature in the app?
Thanks,
Sam

The main thing I want is to make sure that audio level is too high for one footage and then too low on the other. At the end, all the clips are put together to produce a single video and I want the audio to be consistent throughout the video.
Would I then select all the clips and do what you're suggesting? Do I do this one clip at a time or do I select all at once -- not sure how to do it?
Thanks,
Sam

  • Firefox update installs, but does not apprearon screen, or task manger yet is running what is going on and how does one fix it?

I installed the update Mozilla Firefox 28. It was suppose to launch upon completion. it did not appear on the monitor screen, nor the task manager, but was running; for when I attempted to install the older version again it, it said that Firefox was running and needed to be turned off.
I restarted the computer and tried opening Firefox, with the same results.
After restarting again, I attempted to reinstall the update, with the same results taking place.
I attempted to uninstall Firefox and install the new version. The same results took place.
In the past, I could install Firefox 27 update, only now I can't for the same thing takes place. Past a certain version (19), this event takes place, but 19 and older can install it with no problems.
I checked Firefox troubleshooting information. All was normal. I checked my firewall. Again, all was normal. Tried Firefox reset. Did not help. Tried with my firewall disabled. Did not solve the problem.
Ran a virus check (deep) no viruses. Checked my computer system. No errors.
I can install updates for my other programs, even install new programs; just not Firefox.
What is going on and how does one fix it.

    Hi Amseeking,
Thank you for your question. From your description, you tried to install the 28 update from a version 19 installation. Did you install a fresh install of 28 successfully? Where the name of the file is"Firefox Setup Stub 28.exe"? This is what is sound like happened. When going to about Firefox and searching for updates it installs over the current installation. However if Firefox was already running, there are more than one installation.
Updating from version 19 to 28 would not be a problem. However the user data from your previous version would have to be imported to the new installation if you have more than one install on that computer.
An easy way to tell is to search for Firefox in the Start menu to see if more than one icon shows up in the search results.
    I hope this helps.

  • How does Airplay transfer audio file format to an Airport Express?

    Hi, everyone
How does Airplay transfer audio file format to an Airport Express?
Many from the Internet claim that iTunes encodes an AIFF file format into an Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) file format before sending signal to an Airport Express.
    Is that true?
If so, would it still make sense for me to have AIFF files on my music server
or should I have ALAC files instead?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    BR,
    George Lien

Many from the Internet claim that iTunes encodes an AIFF file format into an Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) file format before sending signal to an Airport Express.
    Is that true?
Yes. The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) works only with iTunes v4.6+ and is limited to music files that iTunes can read; ie, 16-bit data only. These data, though, can be in any file format that iTunes recognizes, from lossy MP3s at the low-quality end of the spectrum to Apple Lossless and lossless AIFF or WAV files at the high end. It is also important to note that the AX functions only at a 44.1kHz sample rate. When you play 32kHz or 48kHz data, iTunes sample-rate-converts the data in real time before sending it to the AX.
iTunes uses a QuickTime CODEC to convert audio files to Apple Lossless, and then, uses AirPlay to send them to the AX. In turn, the AX uses built-in software that converts the Apple Lossless to an Encoded Digital Audio format. From there, digital audio is sent to a optical transceiver to convert the electrical signal to an optical one before sending it to the innermost part of the audio port. For analog, the AX has a built-in DAC to convert the Encoded Digital Audio to Analog which is sent to the same audio port.
If so, would it still make sense for me to have AIFF files on my music server
or should I have ALAC files instead?
If you have audio files in both formats, I would elect just to keep the ALAC (.m4a) files on the music server.

  • How does FCPX handle audio?

Still working on getting audio exported to an AAF, and having problem doing this.  So I need help understanding how FCPX is handling my audio.
When it's on the timeline, is it being conformed to the frame rate of the video?
When audio is exported, does FCPX force it to conform to the video frame rate in the project settings, audio properties, or both?  Or does it allow the audio to export at whatever rate the original media is at?
I export an XML from FCPX, then open that with X2Pro and it makes an AAF file, but a report tells me that   "Conform rates are not supported. The Conform rate at 01:04:49.23 has been ignored."  So when I go to that timecode, all I see is video at 24p and a detached audio piece at 23.98.  Why are these different?  How would I fix?

FINALLY!  Thank you God, this issue is resolved.  Here's what I learned and had to do in case anyone else may be wrestling with this issue.
Apparently, FCPX handles audio like this:
    • Adjusts varying frame rates to match the project property,  e.g. if you drop footage that is 24, 30, and 60 all on a 24p timeline, FCPX makes them fit into 24p, it does not tell you or show you this, it just does it automatically
    • It may handle detached audio a little differently.  For instance, I had a 24p timeline, and there were 39 detached audio clips that were 23.98 because they were not attached to any video, so I had to reimport and sync, see the workaround below.
The X2Pro, program to convert FCPXML to AAF, spits out a report showing where all the conform errors were, 39 total, but still required calculating where exactly it was because it didn't identify precisely by frames.  Once the offending detached audio clip was located, I then Expanded the Audio Components to see both the original and synchronized audio.  Next I had to go find the external audio that had been synced, then do a replace edit on the old synchronized clip.  This made the audio's video frame rate 24 and took away the conform errors!  Then I had to sync up  the new detached audio clip manually with the video clips above it.
Also, to get out to an AAF with X2Pro, it does not support retiming, so I had to strip out 22 instances of retiming.
Whew, glad that's all over!  Hopefully this AAF will be pristine for my audio post supervisor to bring into ProTools!
Thank you all for your help and input along the way!

  • How do I adjust audio levels at various points on timeline??

How do I make volume level adjustments in a single clip on the FCP-X timeline?  I have a music bed and need to adjust audio levels at various points in the song.  In past Final Cut programs.  This should be very easy but I can't find how to do it in Final Cut Pro-X.  I don't want to adjust the entire clip.
Also, I recorded voice on channel 2 and shot gun on channel 1.  I only want the voice (channel 2).  How can I select a individual channel once I have edited the piece.  I know I can re-import the video and designate which channel to bring in but I don't want to have to do that.
    Thanks!!

Select a range and lower the level, or hold the Option key to click on the level line to add a keyframe.

  • TS1717 how does one fix when message says: "you cant open iTunes because it is either damaged or incomplete"

When trying to launch iTunes, I am getting the message "You cant open application iTunes because it may be damaged or incomplete". Has anyone experienced this before and how did you fix it? I have been using Time Machine, and tried to restore my iTunes, but that does not seem to help.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • How do I fix audio in an iMovie video?

I'm trying to finalize a video from iMovie, but whenever I finalize it, no matter what media I use, the sound for the video clips in my movie are always off. But on iMovie, the videos and audio work fine. How can I fix this??

It is happening on the timeline and when I burned the DVD it also happened on the DVD.  However, I tested to see if it was the camera by linking the camera to the TV and everything was in sync...so it is not the camera.
It is interesting that when I captured the video in one shot, most of the video was out of sync with the background taping sounds.
I may have done a workaround. I have since captured the video in chunks and found that when I do that the alignment of video and all sound are OK except for a couple of sections of the video.
It appears that when captured all at once, the sections that are out of sync, pollute the remaining parts of the video.  It sounds strange, but that it all I can come up with as a rationale. Why?  I have no idea.

  • CS6 - how do I adjust audio level part way through a clip using audio mixer?

Hi there - I'm using the trial version of CS6 and will almost certainly buy it. I've watched lots of the video tutorials but am stumped on this simple issue!
    1. Let's say I have a clip and I want to increase the audio level part way through a clip.
    2. In Example A below I have added a keyframe at the point I want to change the volume.
    3. I then went to the audio mixer and increased the volume level using the slider. But nothing changed on the clip.
    4. The only way I could get it to work was to add more key frames after the first one (see Example B) and increase the volume on the timeline.
    5. This is very fiddly and I'd prefer to be able to do this using the audio mixer. Is this possible?
    Example A                                                                                                              Example B

With the proper Send settings (Write, Touch, etc., as Craig mentions), you can easily ride the Volume in real-time. I like to add a Numbered Marker to where I want the adjustment to begin, hold, and then end, so that I have several visual clues, besides the aural ones.
I also have found that the default setting for Audio>Minimal Time Thinning Interval places too many Keyframes on the Track, so I have bumped that up in Preferences.
Also remember, the Keyframes added with Audio Mixer are Track Keyframes, and not Clip Keyframes. If you were to remove all Clips, those Keyframes would still be there, and would affect any Clips that you added back.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Dynamic range compression to fix audio levels of people talking in training meetings

I know next to nothing about manipulating audio but I've recently started recording training meetings for my company. Some people have mics while others don't. The tool I've been given is the latest version of Adobe Audition. Is there a way for me to easily get all the people speaking at the same level so people don't have to constantly turn their volume up and down while watching?

    <rant>
If you click on the first link in the PZM microphone page (the Bruce Bartlett one) take that with a pinch of salt - he clearly doesn't understand how they work in the slightest, and as a result most of what he says is either misleading or just plain wrong. And he's not the only one; if you look at the Media College link, they get it wrong too:
"A small condenser microphone is mounted face-down a short distance from the reflective boundary plate. This creates a pressure zone between the plate and the mic. The microphone detects changes in this pressure zone, rather than the conventional method of detecting changes in the surrounding air pressure (i.e. sound waves)."
The bit I bolded isn't really true, except in a very limited sense (this will have no bass response). The pressure zone is there regardless of whether the mic is or not. It's caused simply by the sound velocity wave having nowhere to go when it hits a physical boundary. At this point, the velocity wave (which is directional) hits the boundary where it becomes a pressure wave - and that's the non-directional part. If you put any microphone inside the pressure boundary (anywhere within about half an inch of it), you will achieve the same effect. So the other thing they got wrong was to describe a conventional mic as detecting changes in the surrounding air pressure, as such. The only mics that technically do this are true omnidirectional mics - but in the open air it's only local changes of pressure on the diaphragm (which are still directional) that occur, and signals arriving from different directions will still interfere with each other.
I'm not surprised that all these people get it wrong - they don't understand the basic physics involved, and it's not entirely intuitive.
If you want to find out how this effect works without purchasing a PZM/Boundary effect mic, it's quite simple. Get several people to talk in a relatively empty room, and you listen to them using headphones and a single mic. You'll have some difficulty hearing them all clearly. Then, while they are still talking, take the mic and place it somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2" from a wall. As you approach the wall, you'll end up with a load of cancellation effects, because sound waves hitting the wall will be bouncing off and cancelling out at different frequencies, according to exactly how far you are from it. But as you get within the magic pressure zone, everything will suddenly sound different, and much clearer (although a little quieter). This is because all of the competing sound waves don't cancel out any more. Now they aren't 'waves' as such, so they don't have a 'wavelength', but are simply pressure representations of them. You can't have two pressures out of phase in the same place (this is physically not possible!) so you don't get all the cancellations.
So with an omnidirectional mic in the pressure zone, you get a hemispherical response. Everybody says that you can get a more directional response using a more directional microphone, but in reality the differences are quite small if you use them on walls. The smaller the boundary, the less it intercepts long wavelengths (ie, bass), and that effect is quite significant, though.
So why did Bartlett, et al get it wrong? Because they never read further than the first section of Crown's Mic Memos. Bartlett is particularly culpable because he edited it!
If you scroll down far enough, you get to the magic paragraph, as follows:
"Ed Long and Ron Wickersham, in studying the behavior of flush-mounted microphones, uncovered a
basic error in our thinking. Within a few millimeters of a large surface, sound levels from a pair of
equal level signals add coherently because, in close proximity to the surface, the particles are still in
phase as they accelerate after being brought to a stop by the boundary. This creates what is called a
pressure field right at the surface of the boundary.
“A pressure field is one in which the instantaneous pressure is everywhere uniform. There is no
    direction of propagation.”
The "basic error in their thinking" is the bit at the start that everybody else parrots. I'd have edited the document somewhat differently, I must say!
