How does the Dual Core affect your electric bill?

ok, maybe an unusual question, but for us folks here in europe - the land of extreme energy costs - the issue of power consumption is relevant. after i got an iMac G5 i noticed that my energy bill went up significantly from when i had my old G4 desktop running. granted, i have been getting more work
now i am about to pick up a porsche - err, dual core G5 system - and wondered if there was a way to find out. the tech specs do not indicate how many watts the units draw under load. is there any way to find out? does anyone have any info?
many thx

Dual cores consume less electricity than dual processors as witnessed by the fact that the present dual core PowerMacs have air cooling.
The quad has liquid cooling (but it's the best processor power bang for the buckas all computers will be going dual core shortly)
good article I came across today

  • Exactly how does the Dual Link plug into the 30"

Ok I keep seeing pix of this plug yet I can't get a grip in how it works.
I am assuming it works with the DVI plug that comes with the 30"
If anyone has a photo of the way it is connected I would appreciate a link. I just want to see it. Can't explain why.
I have also still been only able to find mostly complaints about the plug. Is it really that bad. I will never get the full resolution without one but it seems not worth the trouble.
Anyone with experience or knows my options would be nice to hear from as well.
    Lastly this.
I if hook this up without the dual I can still use my 2nd monitor but if I ever use a dual-link will I need a 2nd video card to keep my 2nd monitor running.
I assume yes using common sense but I haven't seen the setup.
    Thanks a lot

Well that was the perfect answer. I never read that about the plug but now it makes sense why it looks the way it does in the pix.
I always thought it had 2 ins and 1 out. I mean it does but just in one plug.
I would still like to know if they are still junk. Do they still flicker and work bad.
30" in pointless without the resolution.
I use a 32" but it only goes to 1378 because it is a 720P and everything still gets in the way so that is why I also have my 24" running.
I do a lot of multiple tasks and like to look at one thing while doing another. Putting my word docs to the left and copying and pasting into quark but I like to see the formatting without having to look under the files to see what is bold, etc.
Well until I know about the plug there is NO WAY I am spending $100 for junk. I know Apple will say they are fine and I am sure there are people who's work perfect.

  • How does the builtin webcam affect sound???

I have a problem with my builtin webcam when making a voice calls by skype or yahoo messenger or any other program. The sound is clear till the camera turned off. But when I am turning it on my interlocutor (different people from different computers) starts to hear some weird noises and it continues till my camera is on. As for me I don't hear nothing strange. Perfect picture and sound. I've tested my microphone - it works perfectly fine, the camera itself is working good also. I have a Toshiba A355D-S6930 Satellite, runs Windows 7 Ultimate, all latest updates, no viruses. Also I've tried to update my web camera drivers but the system says that I have the latest updates. So what is it and mainly how can I fix the problem? Please help

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but as you were still asking "where can I find drivers for my builin camera and microphone (I guess it will be deleted after I change the operative system)?" I thought you didn't understand about the downloads link.
With regard to your 'legal' Vista copy. Yes, you should own a legal Vista license. But, if you are getting some message that you do not have a "genuine version" of Windows, you should be able to fix this. Look on the bottom of your laptop and there should be a genuine Windows Vista sticker with a product key on it, carefully write down this number. Then, go to this article, click on the 'Windows Vista' tab, and follow the instructions there to input the product key you got from the bottom of your computer.
    Update your Windows product key
Next, make sure whether you have installed Vista SP2. Click on start and type in   msinfo32.exe   and click on this file.  The top 2 lines should show the OS Name and Version. If you do not have Vista SP2, you need to install this to continue to get Windows Updates.  If you do not have SP2, go here, download this file, and double click to install it.
    Windows Vista SP2
Never let Windows update change any of your Toshiba supplied hardware drivers.
Toshiba, and most laptop makers, has not supplied recovery disks with their computers for some time. But, there is a Recovery Parition on your hard drive, if it has not been corrupted or deleted. The information about the Recovery Utility, running it from your hard drive, and creating a set of recovery disks, starts on page 61 of your Satellite A350 Series User Guide.
    Good luck.

  • How does the latest update affect apple t.v.

I read specs on latest iTunes update and there was a mention of new wireless sharing of photos. Nothing looks different on apple tv-can anyone shed light on this?

Photo streaming is now a feature for the tv. Previously all you were able to do was sync photos from the primary source. If you have more than one itunes library registered with the tv you will now notice photos are available from all your sources. If you have only one itunes library registered to the tv then not a lot as changed except you will notice photos are now available both from the source 'tv" and "My itunes Library"

  • When will the dual core x100e be available on Lenovo's website?

When will the dual core x100e be available on Lenovo's website?
I LOVE this laptop but 1.6ghz single core can not serve my needs. (I know is not meant to be very powerful  but dual core is a must for me) I would like to wait if it will be available soon.
Also, can a SSD be swaped in instead of the 5400rpm dives they come with? I have a spare 64GB drive I purchased for my T60 and it would be nice to swap it into the x100e
Let me know how soon the dual cores will be available please. Really excited to purchase and customize with solid state drive.
Also some of the review videos online show the battery sticking out the back and others don't. Which is it?
    Thanks.

I odered it on 01/20/10 and still waiting for it to arrive. Arrrg have to start a thread about this they have screwed by business trip big time

To add to sig's reply, "calibrating" does not calibrate Lithiu-Ion batteries, it calibrates the charge reporting circuitry.  If you look at the effect of deep discharging Lithium-Ion batteries in the data from the independent test group, Battery University, you will see that doing so shortens the life of the battery significantly. It looks like an optimum balance between use and life is at a discharge level of 50%.

  • How does the system Validyne pressure transducer -- Validyne CD280-Dual-- SCB-68-- PCI-6024E-- LABVIEW work and how can we calibrate the pressure transducer?

    Hello there,
I am completely new to the LABVIEW software.
I am learning an existing LABVIEW code of my pressure acquisition system (attached) which has the data path as following: Validyne pressure transducer --> Validyne CD280-Dual--> SCB-68--> PCI-6024E--> LABVIEW and I have some question:
    1. How does the complete system from transducer to the LABVIEW work? ie if we apply the pressure at the transducer, it will change the resistance of the transducer then ....?
    2. How can I find the equation which express the relationship between the pressure and the voltage at the oupt of the Validyne CD280-Dual in the LABVIEW?
    3. If I want to do the calibration for the transducer, what are steps?
    Thanks,

  • How loud should the Dual core 2GHZ machines be?

I just purchased the dual core 2GHZ last night and after reading so many people say these were so quiet, I was expecting quiet.
I have to agree this is much better than my dual 867 G4, but I wouldn't call it quiet. I am using it for audio and was so excited that thay finally found a way to make them quiet. I am now disappointed.
Does anybody know what the normal db rating is for these and where I should be tested as far as where I should be placing the noise level meter to see if this is within specs or if I got a bad one.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

I got a Dual 2 Ghz (separate processors) so I would assume mine is noisier, but I'll tell you what I've learned.
1: It seems the one PCI slot video cards are the nosiest, making the PCI slot fan/speaker combination make a lot of noise right in front of the machine where you'll hear it all too clearly. The two slot PCI video cards are quieter because of their bigger fan.
2: The Superdrive makes the most noise when a cd/dvd is in and being used.
3: The drivebay fans are set to a minimum 1000 RPMs, provided you have a cool room (-75ºF) much more over this they will kickup and make noise along with all the other fans.
4: The CPU fans are a little bit tricky, with some OS X updates "something" gets reset and then the fans will rev up and down at the slightest provocation. This can cause considerable noise and attention. Most times the fan will settle into one constant speed which is better than the annoying revs.
So it depends a lot upon where a sound reading is taken and what kind of hardware and room temps.
My Dual 2, measured from the front grill middle, no active Superdrive, in a -75ºF room, with the remaining PCI slot covers removed, gets a sound reading of 58 db at point blank range.
A eMac 800 I had was getting a constant 72 db as measured from the rear fan exhaust area. It was a vacuum cleaner in comparison to my Dual 2.
If you need absolute silence, I suggest a server box or placing the Tower on the opposite side of the wall and routing cables through a small hole. Get a external cd/dvd drive.

  • How does the Oracle DBMS locate the Oratab file?

I'm new to the Oracle environment. I have also successfully installed Oracle 11g on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 platform. How does the DBMS locate the oratab file? My oratab is located under the "/etc" sub-directory. How does the DBMS know to look their? If I wanted to change the location of my "oratab" file how do I point the DBMS to the new location?
    Thanks

The RDBMs does not care of the oratab file. (why should it?)
But some other scripts/utilities does. dbca, dbstart, dbshut and possible a lot others.
So if you want, you can delete or move this file without affecting any RDBMS, but you have to modify all scripts you use if they rely on oratab, and you have to accept some tools will provide unexpected results without it.
My personal suggestion: move oratab somewhere in your $ORACLE_BASE and create a symbolic link from this location to /etc/oratab.

  • Where is the Dual Core version of X100e that has been promised!!

Where are the x100e units with AMD Neo x2 dual core that has been promised?? The Lenovo Australia website has them for sale but nothing in the USA. What the heck is going on here??? How much longer does Lenovo think they can get away with selling new laptops with old 65nm chips in them?? By the time these Neo X2 units come out the AMD Neo x2 65nm chips which they use will completely be dismissed by the public. It just seems Lenovo is helping AMD dump some very old stock of 65nm silicon. Hey Lenovo its 2010....65nm laptop chips have around since 2006.....release the Neo x2 version of the x100e soon before its too late...

It's actually quite small, and I'm not sure why people are always complaining about bezels, I've never even noticed it, as I look at the screen and not the bezel surrounding it. Even the dual core atom isnt going to touch the performance of a C2D.  Show me the X300 for $750 US new, X200 was the clear choice there.  CD-ROM is obsolete as far as I'm concerned and SSD can be added aftermarket much cheaper, if desired.

  • X120e HDMI - 27" LED LCD @ 1920x1080 - how does the image look?

    Hi All,
Since that my X120e is not compatible w/ my Dell 30" DVI-D dual link display, I'm about to invest in a 27" LED LCD w/ HDMI input.  If you're using the X120e on a 27" @ 1920x1080 via HDMI too, may I ask how does the image look to you?
Can people even tell that all that images/video come from a lil' laptop?
I asked cos' as we all agree that X120e's built-in display is a lil' on the weak side, I wonder if this carries onto an external display too or not.  Speaking of which, ever since I downloaded all latest drivers (as late as last night), my X120e's picture quality is now noticeably better, have you guys noticed this too?  And I haven't even used Microsoft's picture calibration software yet cos' last time I used it, all grey areas looked pinkish.
    Thanks.

Yeah, as ColonelONeill said, the picture qualities are independent.
Most likely, if you encounter any picture quality issue on the external, it's going to be due to picture options on that monitor itself (color temperature, brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc. etc.) that can be adjusted independent of any setting that the computer has.  Any calibration tool software on the PC only adjusts how the data is sent out to the monitor in question.  Hardware + Software calibration tools are considerably more reliable because they can take into account the settings on the monitor itself.  Sadly one can't adjust the laptop's screen's settings itself.
If you're going to use the HDMI connection, don't forget to go into your Catalyst Control Center and adjust the overscan / underscan setting to get the image to fill up your monitor's screen.  AMD sets the overscan / underscan option to default with a slight border around the desktop.  This in turn can cause a sort of blurriness because the pixels on the monitor is not 1:1 to the pixels that the laptop is outputting (1920 x 1080 resolution being fit into a 1820 x 980 resolution with a 50 pixel black border, for example).
P.S. the Overscan / Underscan option only shows up in CCC if you have the device connected through HDMI.

  • For encrypted flows, how does the MPLS do the QOS?

After encrypting the data, send them to MPLS, how does the MPLS do the QOS?

    Hi,
the IPSec standard mandates, that the ToS Byte from the original header is copied to the new IPSec header. So if your IP packets are already marked everything is straight forward - MPLS does not make any difference. For the MPLS network it will be just marked IP packets and the marking is copied to the MPLS experimental bits. QoS policies within an MPLS core only use experimental bits only.

  • How does the remote object connect to the correct host

i have had a small doubt on how the remote reference manages to find the correct host to call the subsequent methods after a sucessful lookup.
given a rebind or bind to the registry, the registry only stores the alias and the remote reference, now imagine a client calling a lookup on the registry would only get the remote reference, and not in which machine the remote object is found.
what i wanted to know is how does the client or atleast the remote reference returned by the registry correctly connects to the machine where the remote object is located. i dont think its stored in the stub bcos the stub is a complie time stuff.
i would be pleased to have a comprehensive answer for this.

The membership in the group communication framework is always accurate and upto date.Up to date to the moment when you check. Not up to date to the moment when you make the RMI call.
i could basically chk if this ip is available in the membership list.Complete waste of time. It doesn't matter what you check ahead of time, you are still trying to predict the future.
And you still have to deal with ConnectException etc from the actual remote method call. And the way you will deal with that in your situation is exactly the same as what you were going to do if your ahead-of-time check failed.
So just catch the exception(s) and deal with the problem there.

  • How does the URL of DataSocket constitute? And how to use it in LabWindows/CVI ?

    Hi !
There's a problem puzzled me some days. How does the URL of DataSocket constitute ? And how to use it in LabWindow/CVI ?
For example.I have downloaded a code in http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3787.I want to make it work properly. So I configure my DataSocket Server Manger according to the URL of this statement.
    DS_Open ("dstp://weather.natinst.com/weather/current",
    DSConst_ReadAutoUpdate, DSCurrentCallback, NULL,
    &dsCurrentHandle);
My DateSockket Server Manger is configured as:
However,it could not work properly when I debug it.
There's a introduction at the top of the code."You may need to replace the references to weather.natinst.com to 130.164.140.10 if the DNS isn't working properly."So,I modified the statement into
    DS_Open ("dstp://130.164.140.10/weather/current",
    DSConst_ReadAutoUpdate, DSCurrentCallback, NULL,
    &dsCurrentHandle);
    but,it did work properly.
We want to communicate with other computers via the URL of  DataSocket in LabWindows/CVI.Whereas,how could we make it ia the URL ?
If anyone could help me solve this problem,I would appreciate it very much !
    Best regards.

Thank you very much for your reply! I will accept your advice.
Besides,I have another question. If I want to visit other computers or other websites, how does the URL of DataSocket  I constitute ? Does the URL has any relation with the DataSocket Server Manger ?If does, how to configure the DataSocket Server Manager to let them connected. If they have no relation, how to use the DataSocket Server Manger ?
After all,I want to know how to use it in LabWinows/CVI ?
    Thank you very much !
