How does the macbook pro stack up to the competition?
Look at this - a 240gb HD! Catch up apple catch up! in the intel and compatible world you really need to offer more for less. Mac OS is much better than windows but the macbook pro is less hardware for more. That's part of the equation too.

Yes, but look at the 3lbs weight differerce! I don't know, but when you look at the PC laptops with 17" they're usually gigantic, fat and ugly. They're not comparable to the mac laptops. I'd buy a thinkpad, but nothing else is of the same quality.

We have had to change to a new router but the Macbook Pro still reverts to the old one. How can we lose this and make the new router the default?
Go to "Network" under system preferences and choose "advanced"
On the Wi-Fi tab you can sort the sequence of the preferred connections.
Then just move your new router to the top of the list. -
I have programmed iCal and Address book to sync via MobileMe. The info I type in iCal on the MacBook Pro get updated on the iPad, but not the other way around. Any hints?

IOS5 on iPad1, iPad2 and iPhone4S all with iCloud on. Lion 10.7.2 installed on my MacBookPro and iCloud set up/on. Any new iCal entry on either iPad or on the iPhone ends up via iCloud on both iPads and iPhone. BUT NOT ON THE MacBookPro. And iCal entry on the MacBookPro does NOT GET SENT to iCloud.com or to either iPad or the iPhone. This is a huge problem for me because I do all my office scheduling on the iPad or iPhone but rely on the MakeBookPro to print out daily client lists. I REALLY need to get this fixed...it is causing major business issues. " No one so far has had a fix.... :(

I am using a MacBook Pro. I have my movies stored on a Lacie 1 TB external USB harddrive. (42 Movies in HD - 538 Gb in use). When I try to read the LaCie external drive, my MacBook Pro is "hanging". Only a "hard reboot" helps to get my MacBook Pro up and running again. The MacBook Pro starts to read the drive, but half way he "stucks". I can read the LaCie drive without any problem om my windows machines, so the LaCie drive is O.K. Anyone familiar with this problem?
The drive is formatted NFTS, otherwise the drive can not handle large files under Windows. And yes, I can see the drive in Disk Utility.
I can even see the files (partly) untill my system is hanging.

After installing the windows 7 on the Macbook pro, i accidentally disabled the Macintosh hd and Recovery Hd and now now cant see them on start up
I need to boot to macintosh but i cant see the drive nor to restore to the fastory settings through recovery HD, What can i dohold down the option key during boot it give you the option of what parition you wish to boot into

Hi Trying to download CS5 Design Premium. We have a copy on the Mac and want to put a second copy on the Macbook pro. Can download the file but when it is clicked the file give an error message "User access denied" and dumps the download. So hence I do not get an installation screen or a chance to enter the Licence no.

I try to update the software of an Iphone or Ipad with the Itunes of the MacBook Pro. It downloads the software but at the end always the comment shows up that the download failed and i should try again. Any ideas, I already updated the iTunes software.

How does a MacBook pro locate itself?
I've had quite a shock today. Someone that I've never seen before in my life, and the police claimed that I had a stolen MacBook pro in my house. There were tons of claims being bandied about such as "GPS doesn't lie sir." So basically, this guy was showing the police on his cellphone some sort of map that showed his laptops location. Needless to say I wasn't going to let the police search my house because some stranger said his Mac was in my house.
So I have a few questions.
How does a Macbook determine it's location when it's lost or stolen?
Does the Macbook Pro have a GPS receiver in it?
Does it have a cellular modem in it that calls home checking to see if it's lost?
Can it use said cellular modem to get a relative location as well?
Thanks for answering, I'm a bit shaken up from all this because this all culminated in a threat of a warrant, in which the officer said, "Make sure your dogs are restrained, they might get hurt when we serve the warrant." ( In other words We're gonna blow them away when we no knock you in the middle of the night. )That's even scarier because when you look at a Wi-fi map it shows my access point in a residence two houses down from mine! Whats worse the location of the actual access point has almost nothing to do with where it's been scanned. The margin for error is huge. If you look at Wigle for instance half the hotspots seem to be in the road.
Triangulation would denote that the laptop has a direction finding antenna. I'm somewhat of a radio buff, and while I know GSM has an ability to fix a location somewhat innacurately but that's not done by the phone that is done by the provider via cell towers.
I'm kind of skeptical how accurate getting a direction on a Wi-Fi hotspot would be with a diversity type of antenna.
And even then the physical location of the access point isn't known.
How does it report the local Wi-Fi hotspots back to the user? Must it have a cellular internet connection to it? -

It will work anywhere, and the warranty is valid world wide. You will probably need to buy some sort of power plug adapter for the USA two-pronged power plug into whatever country socket you intend visiting.

But if you are trying to say "I hope I did not spend so much for a product no beter than a Windows PC", then I think you will eventually find your $$ were well spent.
As I said, my work-supplied 14 in Windows PC laptop gets at most 4.5 hours. I get 5-6 under average use with my 15 in MBP.

Why does my macbook pro keep disconnecting from the internet?
For whatever reason my Macbook pro 15in keeps disconnecting from the internet everytime it goes to sleep. And sometimes when I wake it up, I have to turn wifi on and off a couple times to get it to detect the right signal. This does not happen with my playstation or my phone so it has to be a problem with the Macbook itself. Can anyone give me any information on how to fix this problem? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Hi thanks for replying. I had figured that out, but I'm more interested in the fact that I think I'm running with multiple facebook pages running. When I swipe across the pad, it shows another one of my previous facebook sessions. I don't think I'm closing these pages down the right way.
