How does the new i7 Mini behave under high CPU load?

Did anybody test a new quad-core i7 under high CPU load, using all cores at 100% during more than 15 minutes?
How does it behave (from a thermal point of view)?
Is the fan loud under such load?
Does it get as hot as a Macbook Air?
Do it feels like you're pushing it above its design goals, or does it look well suited for 100% CPU on all cores?
Thanks!!

  • How does the original iPad mini perform on iOS 8?

I have been thinking about getting a new iPad from the iPad 2. I know the original iPad mini and the iPad 2 have similar specs, but the real upgrade I get from it is the wireless technology and the ability to use Handoff. Overall, how does the original iPad mini handle iOS 8? Should I go with that iPad or get the iPad mini 2? I wouldn't get the iPad mini 3 because I don't think Touch ID is necessary for what I want to do on an iPad.
Overall, I am wondering how iOS 8 performs on the original iPad mini so it can help me choose between the original or the iPad mini 2. Thanks in advance for your input!

Get the mini 2 when the prices come down. The mini 2 is baically a smaller iPad Air. The improvements over the mini are well worth the money.

  • How does the new iPhone 6/iWatch know whether I'm standing or sitting?

I work long hours standing and I'm wondering how does the new iPhone/iWatch knows whether I'm standing or sitting down?  And what if I leave my iPhone on the table but I'm walking around with just my iWatch on the wrist, is the new Health App going to be keeping track of my walking around the office?

You will know when you buy them and use them. No one here can answer that question yet.

  • HOW DOES THE NEW MBOX 2 MINI WORK WITH THE MAC MINI?

    I have a old original Mac mini 1.25GHz with 1 GB SDRAM - 40GB Ultra ATA drive, 4x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW) OS 10.3
I also have just added the new MAC MINI 1.66 CTO OS 10.4
    with the following configuration:
    * Processor 065-6673 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo
    * Memory 065-6676 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM-2x512
    * Hard Drive 065-6750 120GB Serial ATA drive
    * Optical Drive 065-6679 Combo Drive
In addition, I have a MicroNet 150 GB external hard drive.
The 3 are linked together so that the icons for the MircroNet and the old Mac mini are shown on the New Mac mini desktop.
I’ve kept the New MM as is for apps, moved most of the files and folders to the MNet, and have done a reinstall on the old MM, getting rid of almost everthing that was on it originally except the OSX and apps.
I’m thinking about using the old MM to set up a recording studio. This would involve the new MBox 2 Mini with ProTools LE. For details, just Google it. It comes 2 ways, configured for the G4 MM or for the new Intel MM. I’d rather not clutter up the new MM with this, as sometimes the Digidesign Pro Tools apps can be a bit toxic.
If I get the MBox 2 Mini and run it on the old MM, will this work? Has anyone tried this? Do I have enough processing power and speed, ram and hard drive space?
    Thanks!

MAC MINI 1.66 Intel Core Duo, Mac mini 1.25GHz MicroNet 150 GB external hard drive.   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Larry,
I just purchased a Mbox 2 Mini. I am running it flawlessly with my Core Duo 1.66Ghz Mac mini w/2GB RAM.
I have not seen the two versions for Intel and PPC Macs as you described. Digidesign only produces one box...compatible with Mac or PC.
The Digidesign site states that the Mbox 2 Mini is compatible with your 1.25GHz mini, but Pro Tools LE 7.3.x requires Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.x, not Panther 10.3.x.
You would get far better perfomance using the Intel mini over the PPC. And, you would get better perfomance by maxing the RAM out as well.

  • Does the new mac mini have airplay

I have a late 2010 Mac Mini and I was looking into it the see if the new Mac Mini offered Airplay. If it did I would be looking to sell my old Mac Mini and purchase a new one sometime in the near future.

Yes it will. Any 2011 or newer Mac mini will support it.
    Here's the article
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X

  • What does the new mac mini really look like? raised or not?

looking at the images on the mac mini page http://www.apple.com/macmini/ it clearly shows the mini with it's front edge resting on the ground in all the images from the front. the reflections touch. but when you follow the 'Design' link it shows that the new mini is resting on a raised foot, so it floats.
i'm pretty sure the floating version is the real version, but why the inconsistency?

it's not an optical illusion. it's just wrong in the images. i agree with the people who made the illustrations, it looks better when it's flat on the ground and not floating.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/16/mac-mini-mid-2010-teardown-photos/
that gives you a better idea of what the new mac mini looks like from the front in a similar angle to the images on apples site. notice the very large gap between the reflection and the front face of the mini. also notice the large black shadow caused by the mini being raised up on the black circular foot on it's base. There isn't an angle that you you can move the camera to that would eliminate the shadow or distance between the reflection and the case and still see the front face as you do in the images.
it's just an odd inconsistency that misrepresents what the final product looks like.

  • How well does the new Mac mini preform

Hi, im thinking of picking up the 2014 Mac mini (i5, 2.6ghz, 8gb ram) And I was wondering how well it performs with yosemite,
    thanks

If I needed a second computer around the house for email, surfing the web, correspondence, and editing family pictures I'd pick one up or look for a good deal on the previous model. Besides the obvious downside of not being upgradable, the internal hard drive (as opposed to the SSD) is a serious bottleneck on performance. Several years ago I said I'd never buy another computer with a hard drive and that was when I had an iMac with a 7200 RPM drive. Now that Apple is installing slow 5400 RPM drives in its base desktops I advise everyone to get an SSD or Fusion Drive. I was frankly surprised how good Intel's Iris integrated graphics is (compared to its previous efforts)

  • How does the new "download additional fonts" feature works?

I'm so happy to see that the “download additional fonts” feature has added in the newest iWork suite for iOS. In previous versions of iWork for iOS, available fonts are only limited to those that iOS has built in, which you can see a complete font list here: iOS 7: Font list.
And a couple of days ago, I found that the iOS 7 is now support “download additional fonts for Apps” feature. Which means that Apps can download a Apple-provided list of addtional fonts if necessary. And we can find this list of font in that support page given above.
So if you edit a pages / keynote / numbers file on a Mac using some fonts that iOS hasn't, then when you open it on an iOS device, it'll download the fonts for you to make your document more beautiful and personalized. That is to make sure that the document has exactly the appearance that you wanted.
    But here comes the question:
Sometimes, those addtional downloaded fonts are available for all the documents in that App, and sometime they are only available on that particular document. Any idea how does this function work? Is it a normal function, or is it a bug waiting to be fixed?
The downloaded "addtional fonts" are only limited to that App you're using. For example, you can access the fonts in which the App you downloaded them. So if you're using Pages to download fonts, you won't be able use them in Keynote. In other words, you have to download them again, and this will obviously take a large amount of storage space on my device if I want to use those fonts in every App. So again, is it a normal function, or is it a bug?
Any solutions, guys? A thousand thanks in advance!

This isn't totally new, as it was part of iOS 6 as well:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5484
But since it really only applied to Asian fonts, it was not of much interest to other users.
Could you give an example the fonts not being available in other documents in a particular app?
I think confining the extra font to individual apps would be considered by Apple to be their standard desired behavior and not a bug.  It is the way iOS works in general.
Have you actually checked the amount of storage space these fonts take up?  I doubt it is very large.

  • How does the new HTML5 video Support work? and what are the limitations?

So the new Edge has been relased along with many new features including HTML5 video support So along with the new feature here are a few new questions!
How does Edge load the Video? is it fully preloaded before Edge shows the content ? Or is it more of a "youtube" pregressive load while playing?
    Or can we choose?
What is the recommended video file size  example 4mb ?
How does edge deal with browsers that only support .ogg or .webm instead of mp4?
How is the support on ISO & tablets? load times, "lag" etc?

When you import an audio or video file a group is created for you. You can import media with the same name(videosample.ogv; videosample.mp4) to this group for ensuring browser compatibility. The corresponding format will be chosen depending on the browser that loads the composition.
Regarding WebM format - You can also add a webm file in your composition; However since this is a royalty format, Animate will not show a live preview inside the Authoring tool. If you browser supports this then it will definitely play fine on browser preview.
You can take a look at the In-app Video lesson which is available to you in the lesson panel for more details on how this works.
And yes you have pre-load options for HTML5 Video too, however progressive download is not available. You will need to use scripting using JS for getting this functionality.
Hope this helps and do try this out.

  • Does the new mac mini have Hdmi 1.4?

I'm thinking about buying a Mac mini in combination with a 3D monitor but every where on the Internet they are talking about HDMI 1.4a or something like that... Is it necessary? And does the Mac mini (2012) have it?

Not certain, but it says here that 1.4 does not support 3-D, that 1.4a is needed...

  • Why does the new version of iTunes cause my CPU to spike?

I've downloaded the newest version of iTunes (and even reinstalled it, to be sure).  [Version 10.7.0.21].
When it is idle, or at least, when it is supposed to be idle, it causes my CPUs to run up quite a load.  Up to 27% from 4%.  This appears to be centered on the program AppleMobileDeviceService.exe, which accounts for about 25% of my overall processor load.
The processors cool off and quiet down as soon as I end that task.
Is this a known bug in the new app, or is this just me?
    -Steve

I just found out from another post on how you can fix the issue.  Open QuickTime Player on your computer and go to Edit >> Preferences >> QuickTime Preferences.  Once your in QuickTime Preferences, click on the "Advanced" tab then uncheck the box that says "Enable Direct3D video acceleration".  I tried this and it seemed to solve my problem.  Hope it works for you!

  • How does the new shuttle control work in Apex 3.1?

    Hi,
I have tried creating a shuttle type control in Apex 3.1. I have based it on a list of Items from my Items table. I can move Items from the left side to the right, and from there I can move them up & down, but whatever I do only seems to affect the page display and has no effect on my tables.
Can anyone explain how this control works and what it's meant to do? Could I, for example, use it to copy records from one table to another?
    Many thanks,
    Keith.

    Keith,
The Shuttle is a type of multi-select. It produces a comma delimited string of your selected values. It is useful in wizards, where you need to select multiple items from a single list (like selecting columns from a table). You can also use it against a 'real' table if you have not normalized. Let's say you have a table that stores meetings and one column lists the people invited. You could use a shuttle to select invitees (using an lov from your people table).

  • Does the new mac mini server do lights out management?

I would say no. The Mac Pro does not do it and that is used by a number of my clients as a server.

  • How does the new Combined audio in/out on 13" work?

Can you have audio in/out simultaneously (analog)?
Does it only do analog in?
This feels so oldschool (shelling out more for the audio card with 'full duplexing').

Here's another (completely unforeseen) benefit of the iMic for me: my Late-'08 unibody MBP's headphone port, while it works perfectly with my headphones, doesn't seem to make good contact with the plug on a long headphone extension cord that I sometimes use to connect my MBP to my home theater system. If I move the cord or jiggle the computer slightly, the audio signal to the receiver gets dropped and I have to wiggle the plug in the headphone port to get it back again, with much crackling and consequent wear and tear on my speakers. Very annoying, and inexplicable because the plug appears to be absolutely standard.
iMic to the rescue: I plug the extension cord into the iMic's output instead of the computer's headphone port, and all is well.
