How doI find a special character not listed in 'Special Characters?'

Hi There
I am trying to type the letter a with both a macron and an acute. I can find the o equivalent, but that's not helping me to write laudatis correctly!!
Thank you
Eve
P.S.  I have tried going into system settings and looking for international (as I saw something somewhere else!) - I can't see international either!

You just need to select the right keyboard in the "flag" menu.
Here is a picture to show you the box to check for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar, plus a picture of the "flag" menu where you select which keyboard you want to use.

  • How to find the 'special characters' window

    Hi,
Frequently I want to access the 'special characters' window, but when I click on the 'special characters' menu item the window does not appear. Sometimes I later find it on another screen (I use nine screens in Spaces), and sometimes can I see it on another screen using Expose, but when I go there it has disappeared. It seems a very fugitive tool, and in its way displays some cute, personality........ But I would love to know how to find it or to force it to appear on the same screen as the application from which I tried to open it!
    all the best,

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
I tried what you suggest - in the International section of the System Preferences there is a tab labelled 'input menu' and there is a check box (which is checked) titled 'Show input menu in Menu bar'. Unchecking that removes a national flag from the the menu bar, checking it restores that flag. So far, so good. If a click on the flag, a drop down menu appears with 'Hide character palette' as an item - clicking this changes it state to 'Show character palette' but clicking this (several times) changes nothing else that I can see,
    all the best,

  • How do I get itunes to not list the same artist more than once?

How do I get ituens to not list the same artist more than once?  I have tried editing the info, sorting different ways and sometimes it works and sometimes not...it's very frustrating to me to have the same artist listed multiple times...

Setting a common Album Artist for each Album does most of the work. For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.
In general you need to make sure that all the values in the tags are used consistently. Same spelling, same capitalization, same accents, no leading, trailing, or multiple spaces, and each value of Artist, Album Artist or Album should only be associated with one value of Sort Artist, Sort Album Artist or Sort Album respectively.

  • How can I distinguish special characters or signs in Doc through VBA?

How can I distinguish special characters or signs in Doc through VBA?
I have a few large documents written in word 2003 format and now I work on them under word 2007.
Such large documents containing lots of special characters.  I want to change them into Microsoft 3.0 equation form(It is required by the team). I find no way but using function AddOLEObject and  Sendkeys through VBA. Common characters can be added
to equation by function Sendkeys, but the return value of Asc() or AscW() for "double arrow", "in" , " not greater than " such special characters or signs, to name but a few are the same ,i.e., 40 And I cannot distinguish them.
I found the link http://msdn.itags.org/word/44333/ may be of use to me, and the title is:
How to read symbols from a DOC documents! (Microsoft Word)
     the original question is
Using function "InsertSymbol", I can insert a symbol into a document. But
how can I read a symbol from a document?
Using "Characters(i).range.text", I can read a char. But when meeting a
symbol, the value of "Characters(i).range.text" is always '('.How can I get the CharacterNumber of the symbol.
And the final answer is :
    Hi chenfeng,
Word protects symbols from symbol fonts if you insert them from the "Insert
    > Symbol" dialog.
This is done so they aren't changed when you change the font or style. But
it also results in Word reporting AscW( ) = 40 on all of them.
I've posted a macro to "unprotect" them (or to protect them again if you
want) ... just today again in

Following Cindy Meister's Advice ,I use MathType SDK.
The sample in MathType SDK in the following may be meaningful, but I do not know how the MTEF for cos^^2Theta, MTEF for sin^^2Theta and MTEF for 1 are generated .
It looks much complicated, and I searched the docs in MathType SDK to get a explanation. Is there any function to generate them? I want to use this method to change commaon text mathematical signs( in special character table) and  Greek letters and characters
with subscripts and superscripts to Microsoft 3.0 equation form.

  • Find All Special Characters in a SQL Server

I would like to find all Special Characters in a table. I am currently using the code below. Not sure if this gets all of them.
    select  top 50 *
    from [dbo].[SV20150122]
    where street LIKE '%[^0-9a-zA-Z @\.\-]%'
    SQL

Depends on what you want to count as a special character.  Depending on your collation, your query might not consider é (for example) as a special character.  The same goes for other accented letters.  If that's what you want, then fine.
If that is not what you want, you may want to do
    where street LIKE '%[^0-9a-zA-Z @\.\-]%' Collate Latin1_General_BIN
In any case, you can see exactly which characters are NOT counted as special characters on your system (with and without the Collate clause) by running
    Declare @Test Table(ID int, MyData char(1));
    ;With cte As
    (Select 0 As Number
    Union All
    Select Number + 1
    From cte
    Where Number < 255)
    Insert @Test(ID, MyData)
    Select Number, CHAR(Number)
    From cte Option(MaxRecursion 256);
    Select ID, MyData From @Test
    Except
    Select ID, MyData From @Test
    Where MyData LIKE '%[^0-9a-zA-Z @\.\-]%'
    Select ID, MyData From @Test
    Except
    Select ID, MyData From @Test
    Where MyData LIKE '%[^0-9a-zA-Z @\.\-]%' Collate Latin1_General_BIN
Note: the above code assumes the column street is char or varchar.

  • How can I display special characters of NonEuropean languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.) using import string mechanism

I would like to translate the User Interface of my application to French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
When I put special characters in the import string file they showed up as ? (question mark)
The import strings file includes the following parameters for each string: font, text, size and style. (but no field for script)
In order to use a unicode font such as Arial I need to select a french script. But this option is not supported bu LabView (As far as I saw)
    A) Is there a font which is directly German/ French etc and not regula font + script parameter?
    B) Are there another required step
s for special characters support? (When I put speciual characters in the import string file the showed up as ? question mark)

This was discussed last week in this group- read the previous messages.
Look for the thread "Foreign Languages in Labview"
    And recite the mantra
    ActiveX is good
    ActiveX is holy
    All Hail Bill
Those who claim otherwise are heretics and not to be trusted
Actually, in this case the non-ActiveX suggestions may be good.

  • How do you insert special characters with imovie 08?

How do you insert special characters into a project
    with imovie 08?

Don't think that would work. Since my "system date" is already set at 2007. I have 2 imports, one has the year as 2048, and the other at 2016!! I don't know where they are getting these dates from, but they are not the system date.
Were the files imported directly from a camcorder or from files already on your hard drive? In the first case the year may have been taken from the time "stamp" recorded when the footage was shot (which may or may not have been correctly set by the user). On the other hand, files imported from the hard drive seem to be keyed to the date the imported file is written to the "Events" folder which, of course, reflects the current system time/date setting. That's why I said you had to then import (re-import) the files from a hard drive source -- i.e., to ensure the DTG would be re-written.

The  most common ones for European languages can be created with the normal US keyboard layout using alt/option dead keys.  alt + e, then e gives you é.  A list:

    Hi All,
I have one task to complete with in the give time. Since i am not very good in PL/SQL i need your your help.
    Requirement is :
I have to come up with the SQL or PL/SQL code which should return and find the special or hidden character in the datafiles name in a database. There are nearly 400+ database are present in almost all the flavor of UNIX and i have to check the each and every database.
As you know , Name of the data file will be like this :
/u02/instance_name\oradata\datafile_01.dbf So it should avoid these things and find out only the special characters in the datafile name.
a-z , A-Z , 0-9 and \ Please keep in mind that ...... I will be firing the Oracle script from Oracle 9i client which will access all the database from Oracle 9i to 11g in one short and give me the result.

I want to modify this query in such a way that .... i should get only those datafiles name which are holding special characters. I don't know how to put this in where condition. :( Here's one way:
    SELECT  file_name
,       ...     -- other expressions, if you want any
    FROM    dba_data_files
    WHERE   TRANSLATE ( file_name
                      , '?0123456789.ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ\_/abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
) IS NOT NULL Among the other expressions you can put into the SELECT clause (if you want to) is a copy of the TRANSLATE function, as you had in your message. That would highlight exactly which character(s) made the file_name invalid.

  • How to search for a font not listed in the Fonts window

I'm unable to create a PDF of an older document built by someone who doesn't work here anymore (so I can't ask how they built it). The PDF starts to generate but it takes longer than usual then right before the last page, it stops and I get a log telling me that it can't generate the PDF because of a problem with a Frutiger-Roman font. We don't use that font so I'm not sure where it would be. Also, when I look in the Fonts pod window, it's not listed.
Is there a way to search a document to find a font that isn't listed in the Fonts pod window?
    Thanks

Sounds like it's coming in with an import, which is probably an image, but could also be a text inset.
I've seen this happen with DWG, DXF, EPS and EPSI imports. I'd expect it to be possible with PDF imports, as well as any formatted text inset.
It could even be an empty string. You can't find any text, but the declaration got triggered anyway.
Most image formats that can include fonts can be opened in Adobe Illustrator. You can then Select > Object > Text Objects and see what's there (or not). If AI throws "some objects have been outlined", you've located the offending file for sure.

    Hi,
I finally found a report which can be used to find the GL Accounts not posted. You can use the report S_ALR_87012311 - G/L Account Balances and Line Items to find out the GL Accounts not posted. Run the report by ticking the checkbox "Print Accounts not posted to".
This will give the list of the accounts not posted based on your data selection.
    Hope this helps.
