How dramatic should lens correction be?

I've seen demos on line where the curved lines in very wide angle shots were pretty much straightened out. I made a LCP file for my Nikon D90 with the kit lens, and the auto-corrected images aren't dramatically different. Is that because there wasn't that much distortion to begin with? Seems like a lot of effort (creating the LCP file) for a subtle effect.
My wife also complained that my time would have been better spent weeding the garden, but that's another matter.  ;-)

From your description, it sounds like you were viewing corrections of fisheye lenses.
For you lens, look for corrections of chromatic aberration at the corners -- red, blue, green, purpose fringing should be reduced.  There may not be that much barrel or pincushion distortion.  My $100 Canon Kit lens doesn't show very much geometric correction, and the CA correction is mostly what I use the tool for.

  • How to import lens corrections into Lightroom?

I have downloaded some lens corrections from the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader for lenses that didn't exist in my LR5. I do not know how to import these into LR5.

  • How to apply lens correction profile to multiple images at once?

I have a quick newbie question and I couldn't find an answer in a brief search that I did. Is it possible to apply lens correction profile automatically to multiple images at once? For my RAW images, LR automatically detects the lens and applies the correction profile for an image if I manually click on "Enable lens correction" option under Develop module (in the right pane where adjustments are made). However, I would like to do this to multiple images all at once.
    Thanks,
    Osho

Be careful using develop setting synchronization for lens profile across mutiple images! This allows applying an incorrect profile (i.e. Canon 17-40mm profile with synchronization to images shot with multiple lenses) First use the 'filter' tool to make sure you select images shot with only one (1) lens type. Then follow one of the procedures here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/Using/WS0E6E6886-E223-4050-B6E0-A97B5B62EF7D.htm l
You can also change the "default" develop settings with 'Lens Profile' option checked and then save as the "new default" setting. LR will then "automatically" apply lens profile correction on import of new images.

  • How to set Lens correction in LR3

    Hi,
I am sure this has been answered before but I can't find any answers in LR Help, here or google.
Is there a way of setting the "Lens correction" in LR3 to be on by default?  as it is now I have to se tit for each image.
    thanks
    Chris

You can do this by updating the 'Develop Default Settings.'
    1) Open an image in the Develop module and hit the 'Reset' button in the right bottom control panel.
This is your 'Current Default Setting'
    2) Go to Lens Corrections and check the 'Enable Profile Corrections' box. If necessary select 'Make' so the lens appears.
    3) Go the toolbar (top of screen) Develop> Set Default Settings> Click on Update To Current Settings.
You will need to do this for each camera model you are using in LR.
You can update pictures currently in LR using Develop Settings 'Copy' & 'Paste' or 'Sync.' Select only 'Lens Profile Corrections' in the 'Synchronize Settings' options popup. Keep in mind this will overwrite previously adjusted images with the 100 default 'Amounts.'
You can also modify the 'Lens Corrections' Profile defaults separately for each lens by making the changes and clicking the 'Setup' up/down arrows and selecteing 'Save new lens profile defaults.'

  • How to keep lens corrections when sending images to Photoshop?

I have a group of architectural photos shot in RAW format with a 10-20mm lens that I have applied lens corrections to in Lightroom 3.  When I open them in Photoshop using Bridge, the lens corrections go away.  I have had the same problem in using Photomatix Pro's batch processing mode to create HDR images.  If I select the trio of images from the filmstrip in Lightroom, right-click on them and then export them to Photomatix, the lens corrections stay, but if I close Lightroom and use Photomatix Pro's batch processing mode to select and process the images, then the corrections go away.  Any ideas?

Lens correction is a function of acr, and LR communicates such settings with PS CS5 and above.  If you are on CS4, in order to keep them, LR must render them before sending on.
The same reason you can't do batch processing from Photomatix, they don't understand LR processing without the current ACR, which is only compatible with LR3 and PS5 (and, one assumes, higher).  So when you export from LR, LR does the processing for you before sending on.. so you keep your changes.
Same if you have CS4 or lower, LR would do the rendering for you.
Does that make sense to you?
    Cheers!

  • The chromatic aberration checkbox that should be under lens corrections is missing

The chromatic aberration check box that should be present under lens corrections is missing from my LR4 program, can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to get it back

What version of LR4 are you using? There was a change made to the CA removal process in LR4.1, and the "Remove Chromatic Aberration" check box is now under the "Color" tab of the Lens Correction panel.

The lens correction option in Lightroom 5 is for the Tamron 28-75mm lens, rather than the correct Tamron 18-270mm, even though it's correct in the Library metadata. How can I fix this?

Are you shooting RAW or JPG or some of both?
When you say it won't let you change it, does that mean there are no lens profiles at all, or no lens profiles that match your lens? If you set Auto or Default you can select any lens you want from the list of manufacturers and profiles and then the Setup says Custom.  Of course this lens may not be the correct lens, but saying you cannot change it suggests there are no manufacturers or lenses listed on the dropdowns.
Most lens profiles are for RAW only, so if you shoot a mixture of RAW and JPG then for the JPGs the lens profile may not exist.  If you are enabling Lens Profiles and have Auto or Default set and it chooses the wrong one then it may just be choosing the top one in the list for Canon if the specific profile doesn't exist for JPGs.
If you are shooting raw and the profile does exist then you should be able to correct the situation:  In the list select the correct profile, then choose Setup:  Save New Lens Profile Defaults, and select Default from the Setup instead of Auto and it should pick the correct lens every time.  Assuming it does do that, then you can set Enable Lens Profiles = checked and Setup: Default and set those as your new Lightroom Defaults and it should pick the right lens.
If you are shooting JPG then the lens profile may well not exist and there's nothing you can do about that except not shoot JPG.  If you feel like it you can hack a raw profile to be a jpg profile and put that hacked copy in the user-lens-profile area and LR will see it.

  • How to Save Camera Calibration and Lens Correction in Camera raw 6.1

I downloaded and installed the Camera Raw 6.1 release candidate.  I open an image and set the camera calibration and the lens correction to auto for Nikon.  I save these settings as new Camera raw defaults, but when I open other images, the changes were not made.  How can I save these items as defaults?
    Swila

Swila, were your "other images" previously edited in Camera Raw? I.e., do they already have saved image settings? The defaults that you save via the flyout menu will only apply to new images, or if you reset an existing image to the defaults. (e.g., choose "Camera Raw Defaults" from the flyout menu).

  • Same shooting, multiple lenses, how to apply the appropriate lens correction when importing ?

    Hello everyone,
    How do you handle this:
For each camera, i have a default preset i'm choosing manualy and applying when importing my raw files into lightroom.
I'd like to also add some default lens correction to those presets.
The problem is that multiples lenses (meaning different corrections) may be applied.
How to apply the correct lens correction for each file, in the batch import ?
    Thanks for your ideas ...
    Aymeric

Update your existing develop presets so that the Lens Corrections are checked (see attached screen shot). Select the develop preset in Import dialog. Lr will automatically apply the appropriate default lens profile to each individual image during import.

  • How can I find Nikon D800 in PS CS5 lens correction filter?

How can I find Nikon D800 in PS CS5 lens correction filter? I have version 12.0.4 and Camera Raw 6.7.0.339.

I see your question and wondered about it.
This is assuming that you know that in addition to the 18-55 issued with D3000's that there are other lenses in which to invest and with which to exploire.....
Using  a D800 and CC PS 14.2.1 x64 and latest Camera Raw  8.4.1.200 I opened the lens correction filters.
There are lens correction tools in Raw for which no body selection is offered, just lens types.  Which lens are you using?
In CC PS (Upgraded from PS5 or PS6 to CreativeCloud ("CC") PS with nice2 year discount offer from Adobe) there is a separate lens correction filter tool:
    Options/settings
    Manufacturer:  NIKON
Model Options do not include D800 at this time
(Options D3, D300s, D3X, D4, & D700) Only the D300s is a crop frame CCD here as opposed to full frame 3, 4, 700, or our 800s.  I would not set the model to any known crop frame (APS-C size CCD)
Searching adobe forums, it appears that camera body specific entries are only added for known problems.
Leaving the model set to Nikon (as opposed to all) allows for selection of specific lenses for a very broad gamut including grails like the OTUS.
I am guessing that there is no identified lens/camera-body specific peculiarity requiring a specific entry for the D800.  This is something to watch over time and possibly to ask Adobe Directly.
I am now piqued to know.

  • How to correct Lens Correction Profile choosing the wrong lens?

Using LR 3.5.1. When applying Lens Corrections/Profile/Enable in Default, my Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 actual lens is being corrected by the profile for a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 lens. I can tell it's the wrong correction because the barrel distortion after using the default profile is not corrected, and when I manually select the 4-5.6 lens the correction is perfect. So I know the right data is embedded in the LR correction data bank but is not being used.
I found that when I set the profile Setup selector to "Auto" the correct lens is selected and the correction it makes is "correct." But then moving to the next photo it switches to Default again, selecting the wrong lens, and so has to be set to Auto for each photo. This action doesn't seem to me to me an expected result called "Setup." I need this for my home interior photography, and with hundreds of photos a week I don't want to manually operate this. This didn't happen until v.3.4 or 3.5, I think.
So, how do I get it to select the right lens as the Default, or get the Auto setting to stick? Either would do. (Seems to me they logically are the same thing).
    ==========
In addition, why isn't it possible to have the profile itself enabled as a default perhaps in a preset - or is that possible and I don't know how to do it? In other words, once it's working right, why not make it an import preset for that lens?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the quick reply, Ian - it works.
I wonder how many users have used the wrong corrections, and will
continue to do so not knowing it's an error. Now I wish the profile
Enable could be a default as well.

  • Can't find Nikon 24-120 lens in profiles for Lens Correction. How is this added?

    Lens Correction panel in LR
enter correct make--NIKON, but model of my Nikon 24-120 lens does not appear
How can this be remedied. It is on the list of suported lenses.
I do not wnat to make a custom profile. Just use the Nikon
    Thanks

    Thanks...figured it out.
Have to open a file taken with that lens. Go to Filter in PS and choose
    ³Lens Correction²
Choose lens there and it will then get registered in LR.
    Appreciate your reply.

  • Anyone know how to reset the lens correction filter? (it's using the wrong scratch disk)

OK, to back up a little, I recently discovered that photoshop was using the wrong drive for it's scratch disk (it wasn't obeying the preferences I'd set). So, I reset the photoshop preferences file (ctrl-alt-shift & open photoshop).
Trouble is, the lens correction filter is still using drive "F:" (my only scratch disks are C, D and I). It access it at a root level and creates some temporary files while the filter is in use.
Does anyone know how I can get photoshop to behave?
    Thanks
