How easy/difficult is it to learn J2EE yourself and importance for intervws

Hi,
I m in the process of learning Java [ I ve learnt quite a bit over the last few months and also took a 5 day class which definitely helped.] and have this opportunity to take/or not take, this class in J2EE...
However, mainly due to $$ reasons... I am debating if I can just learn J2EE by myself instead of going to a class [ online sun tutorials, and other sources ] ....and how important it is to know this for inteviewing or could I just get by with:
" knowing Java well and stating I have 'familiarity with J2EE' and want to do more work on J2EE."
P.S. I am also preparing for SCJP.
Any thoughts welcome.

I guess the other way for a "beginner" in JAVA I really don�t see the need for talking EJB, Transaction... With few years of exp in J2EE, my strong feeling is only if you are really "STRONG" with the basics. Thinking about the HIFI stuff will be useful.
Just imagine, if a beginner can do an EJB. How much can we trust on the stability of the system that is developed?
It took nearly 2 years for me to appreciate the need and the usefulness of what J2EE or Sun with regard to J2EE has offered the developers. I have hardly attended any course on Java/J2EE. But I had to learn this stuff for pursuing a job and still living with the help of other developers around me over here.
I have taken the full or maybe most of the potential that was given by the search engines that helped me in doing this good stuff. I also recommend that firstly become an expert on the basics and mastering the rest is simple.

Some websites request the web browser to NOT autofill the username, password. It is possible the library site is doing that. Your previous firefox on the PC may have been sufficiently old to not be able to handle such a request. There are password managers you can get to over-ride such things (search Safari extensions).

How easy to sniff a public FTP/HTTP username and password?

Hi IT Colleagues,
I understand that using plain FTP/HTTP , it is possible to sniff username and password using sniffer like wireshark.
However, I just to want know how easy to do it.
I know that in order to sniff , you should be in the same network or subnet as the website or ftp site.

It is trivially easy to sniff credentials out of FTP and HTTP due to the fact there is no encryption at play. One should also not simply consider the risks of someone running a sniffer on your local area network, or on the local area network of the remote
server, website or ftp site, but should consider the possibility for traffic to be sniffed along the way. The NSA is doing a rather good job of sniffing all of our traffic, credentials and all! Don't just worry about someone like the NSA though, a malicious
user on an ISP network, or an administrator of a proxy server could just as easily sniff the plain text traffic.

How easy to transfer FCP 10 project to avid and premiere

If I edit in FCP10 and need polishing help with someone who uses Avid or Premiere, how easy to transfer? I especially need help cleaning up audio.

Short answer- not easy at all. Long answer- Avid- you would probably need to export the finished piece and they would take it in as a single clip. Premiere- you would need at least Xto7 utility- http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/Xto7/
That being said- if you needed to clean up audio- FCP has a lot of those tools already such as background noise removal and plugins from Logic, etc.

Learn After Effects and Photoshop for FCP7

I would like to learn After Effects and Photoshop without attending an expensive Film course. By learning online for instance. I work on FCP 7 and have a documentary project which will involve lots of old stills. Can anybody recommend a website? It looks like everybody is requiring those skills nowadays.

I am going to leap to the conclusion that you already own these outstanding products. Adobe helped build Apple in the early days.
In ANY Adobe product, look in the [MENU] > [Help] pulldown menu.
You will see many "How Tos" as well as [Photoshope help...]
All of these lead to Browser-based Help files (located on your computer by the install(s) so you need not be on-line)
Adobe's help system is the best I have ever seen for any software product.
It seems that you could familiarize yourself with each product (let's use PShop as an example) by choosing [Photoshop help...] and then choose Learning Photoshop link in the TOC on the left. It's as easy as clicking next and back to navigate and you can follow the illustrated lessons by switching to PShop then back again.
After getting to know the GUI, all you need do is say to yourself "I wanna do this to that" and translate that to PSHop terms (that may be the most daunting part). People who use PShop all-day every-day don't know everything that it will do until they ask themselves the right question.
Years ago, as a new computer user (as we all were back then), I taught myself every piece of Pro Software I needed just in this fashion - some VERY much more complicated than PShop, etc.
You CAN DO IT ! Be sure to give us a link to your finished project.

How can I fix iCal that keeps popping up and asking for my ID

ICal keeps popping up and asking for me to make sure my password and ID are entered correctly. I have been up on my accounts and done this endless times. I have a POP account that I want to add to the list of accounts under ICal's preferences, but I'm stuck when it keeps telling me that it can find my POP server, but the ID doesn't work. I've tried every ID I ever had and it still doesn't work. How can I fix this?

Thats the issue right there. POP is for email, not for calendars. Remove that pop account from the accounts are of iCal.
You would add a POP account to the Mail application to get emails.

This would be verizonwireless.com, correct? Their site requests that browsers should not save information for its login form.

How to learn video compositing and design for media?

Hi, I have some concerns about knowledge about digital compositings in After Effects.
I recently started to do much more in AE, and I have trouble with lack of knowlegde about this topic. I know how to do some stuff technicaly in AE, but I often got suggestions that I must learn more about motion media design and composition of video scenes, camera movement etc, because I trying to do some commercials for tv-i am volonteer currently. My boss request from me more professional results. So do you have some advices which is the best way to start with all of this, to be more successfull in motion design?

There are lots of books about Visual Effects from lots of authors. Check Amazon.
Go to Motionographer.com and look at good work. Try and figure out how they did it.
Subscribe to a site like Total Training or Lynda.com or Video Copilot, or others and work through the tutorials.
If you don't know how to draw, at least learn to draw stick figures and storyboard ideas, brain storm, talk with your friends, and come up with ideas. Then, try and do them.
Listen to music, especially instrumental, and try and visualize movement to the music. Timing is as important as composition. Timing to audio is more important than composition.
Look at great artwork from the masters to pop art. I've learned more about lighting for film and photography from spending time in museums and looking at books on great painters than I did from anything else.
Mastering the tools isn't nearly as difficult as mastering the technique. The tools change all the time. The technique of good design and effective story telling don't depend on the software.

There is no need to unsync an iPod Classic to iTunes library, your iTunes Library can be sync to more than one mobile device.
So just plug in your iPhone and sync it.
However if you want to delete the music from your iPod Classic, just plug it in and press Restore, or to another PC iTunes, and sync from that PC, it will delete and replace your iPod with the music from that new PC itunes.

How do I set a default page size, orientation, and printer for a particular document in Pages?

I have a simple label document in Pages which I print to my label printer. The label is 1.49 x 3.47 inches and needs to print in Landscape, and it needs to print to my Dymo label printer. How do I set up the Page Setup or Print Setup so it defaults to this document size, orientation, and printer, every time, without me having to manually enter those settings every time?

Following your instructions, I opened my document, opened Page Setup, set the printer, paper size, orientation, and printed a copy to make sure it was right. Then I re-opened Page Setup to verify that the settings were still correct. Then I saved the document as a Template. Then I found my template in Pages, opened the template, and tried to print. The first thing I noticed was that the template did not remember my printer. Then I set the printer, and printed, but I found that the template also did not remember the page size or the document orientation. So, did I miss a step here? Lion 10.7.5 and Mac Mini.
