How efficient is 'Melodyne' with Logic 9?

I know this has been discussed numerous times, but I am considering buying the Melodyne plugin (the purchase includes a free update to the new version coming in September!), and I would like to know how efficiently it interfaces with Logic as compared to doing it all within say, Pro Tools 8 LE. Are there a lot of extra steps because it's a plugin? Does it suck a lot of extra CPU from Logic to do it's magic? Do most users feel it sounds better than Pro Tool's Elastic Time & Pitch? (less artifacts) And lastly, is there any disadvantage to buying the plugin now instead of waiting until the new version is released?
Thanks!

Greetings,
So far, everything seems as stable as before.  Which doesn't actually mean its rock solid, but otherwise workable.  I'm running a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24DSP with beta audio drivers.  So far, everything is running well.  I decided to jump into the 64bit work environment with Logic.  I have yet to encounter huge problems with the 32bit audio bridge.  Just making sure I bounce everything that is 32bit.
As for everything else within Logic, I can't say I hate Lion.  Matter of fact, Lion seems buggier than Logic at the moment.  Logic handles well in Lion, but Lion on its own overall is a different can of worms.  I am mixed about a 10.7.1 update.  Usually, it fixes something on the OS, but breaks something else in Logic.
I have faith that Lion will turn out to be as solid as Snow Leopard.  SL was my favorite OSX so far.  Lion still leaves allot to be desired in terms of stability.
Again, answer to your question:  for me, Logic and Lion play nice.............for now.

  • How to do this with Logic?

    Hy!
    Any ideas how i can realize this with Logic?:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE7GHgbmlP0
    Are there any (freeware) loop plug ins or something else I could use?

    Yea, but what if we want to make our own loops, instead of using what apple is providing?
    If you're questioning whether you can make your own music loops in Logic as opposed to just using Apple Loops, then you're totally misunderstanding some of the most basic functioning of Logic. That's like asking whether you car will drive you around the block. Logic is a very complex multi track audio and midi sequencing program. Not only can you make any type of sound or audio or midi sequence and loop it to your heart's delight, you can make multi track sequences, songs, complex orchestral arrangements, movie scores, soundscapes .... shall I go on?
    I just got LP8, and I'm just learning it too. Are you really saying that you can't do anything similar to that video with Logic?
    Absolutely not!! In fact, SC's post 4th down tells you how to do something similar. Not EXACTY what's in the video, but SIMILAR.
    Here's the difference: You can't record a single measure drum beat and then have it automatically loop indefinitely *in real time* while you layer more drum beats onto it, each one being recorded after a single measure and played back without stopping. In Logic, you can record a measure, then tell Logic to loop it, and then create another, loop that one, etc etc. The only difference is you're not doing it in 'real time' without stopping, you're building a sequence of looped sounds manually in the arrange. The OP seems to want to do it live, without the beat stopping. For that you need Ableton or another program with 'real time looping' capabilities. The only reason you'd want to do this would be if you A) want to impress your friends, or B) are trying to create beats in a live situation, like a club or something. If that's what you're after, other programs like Ableton Live are better suited for that.

  • Got a list of empls but how to iterate them with  logic:iterate?

    Hi there,
    quick question:
    Say I have a class Empl with the properties: fname and id (getter and setters as well).
    I also have a list of empl emplList that has 100 objects of type empl.
    in plain java if I wish to iterate them it will simply be:
    for (int x=0; x<listEmpl.length(); x++)
          Empl empl = (Empl) listEmpl.get(x);
          System.out.println(empl.getFname());
          System.out.println(empl.getId());
    }my question is how could I do that with logic:iterate? and what should come in the ActionForm? is it:
    private List emplList = new ArrayList();
    private List getEmplList();
    private void setEmplList(List list) ???
    thanks for any pointers

    thanks for your reply.
    I did this:
    private List emplList = new ArrayList();
         public List getEmplList()
              return emplList;
         public void setEmplList(List emplList)
              this.emplList = emplList;
         }I added some bogus information in the constructor.
         public emplForm()
              for (int x=0; x<10; x++)
                   Empl e = new Empl();
                   e.setFname("ffff"+x);
                   e.setTravelerID(x);
                   emplList.add(e);
         }for some reason, the code you provided didn't work. Do you think there's something wrong with the emplList?
    thanks again

  • How to operate Toontrack with Logic Pro?

    Macbook Pro:  Mac OS X 10.7.2:  Logic Pro 9.1.6.: Toontrack Solo 1.3.2 /Superior Drummer 2.3.0 / Custom & Vintage Presets:
    Situation question: I have set a library VST path, can record MIDI notes in Logic Pro, see it but not able to hear it in playback due to no audio file captured even though I directed an audio recording file pathway.  When contacting Toontrack the best advice they could give was to make certain I was launching in AU at which I have launched in both MIDI and then tried again Audio recording with input and recording enabled yet am operating MIDI so this leaves me uncertain about the whole thing. I'm on a serious deadline to record tracks from my Roland V-drum kit.  Recap:  I can hear and see Toontrack nicely with the Roland kit, can see MIDI recording within Logic Pro but no playback or audio files found in the library I have set, if this makes any sense. Please be generous in your reply since I haven't taken a course in how to operate LP.  Thank you...

    Your Trying to create an audio track from Midi
    1) You can use the Bounce in Place feature,  (Right Click on region--Bounce/Merge---Bounce In Place
    2) Bounce in the Master fader --Mute all except Superior, set in amd out times, Bit depth...etc
    Make sure you drag to an Audio Track after BIP
    See picts works fine for me
    1-bounce in place
    2-Master fadeer bounce

  • How to use compressor with logic 7?

    I'm trying to record an audio track using the compressor provided by logic. I know that I can insert a compressor to the audio track, but is my understanding that the audio is not compressed when recorded. Is this true? or is there a work around? Thanks

    listen man
    if you can afford an analog compressor then go for that
    source---> tube pre-amp ---> ANALOG COMPRESSOR ----> mixer (for hardware monitoring if you want) ---> Interface
    if you do get a compressor try something with a gate and a limiter built into it as well
    1: limiter is good for setting a level where nothing will over pass that level
    2: gate is a good idea incase you wanna get a good decent sound out of your Tube pre-amp without worrying about the low dirty sounds
    you can use the gate to cut signals below some level, lets say you
    Threshold : -50 dbu
    Ratio : 2:1
    Attack : 1 ms
    Release : 1 sec ( depending on what you want)
    Output : -3 db
    this just a example of what i set for most of my clients, what is, is that i get them in about 30 mins before session and we do sound check plus mic positioning and settings for the PREAMP, COMPRESSOR AND LEVELS IN
    doing all this means the singers / rappers will feel comfortable singing like they are on stage or in their bathroom
    don't let an artist change for you if the artist is good and they happy with their style, position, volume and groove ( because the song will lack of taste and feel at the end)
    tip: recording onto computer/ digital should not clip, you can make the tube as hot as you want but make sure you are about -3 db below clip
    because sometimes good takes only comes once and distorting it and making the clients record about 80x will make the clients lose the feel
    after recording good takes you can go on and compressor to your needs or gain to your needs
    good tip : always make sure you get a good sound before recording or before hitting the disk, less time cutting and pasting more time creating other good things
    and don't over compress with the analog compressor, always leave space for extra stuff just incase
    stash

  • How to swap computers with Logic

    I bought Logic as version 3 years ago. Since then I've bought all the updates. Now I want to sell my Mac G4 DP 1GHz MDD and buy a mac laptop instead.
    HOw do I install Logic on the new laptop? Do I have to install from version 3 and then all the updates? I don't have all the versions as I had to send my version 5 back.
    Grateful, as alwys, for any advice

    I also installed the updage without any problems. However, another way is to do this if you want to save all your preferences is to save the Logic folder to something, even a DVD, and then drag it to your Applications folder. I had to do this before and it worked fine as well. Cheers.

  • Melodyne 2.6 not working with Logic 7.1.1

    Hi,
    those of you who are using Melodyne with Logic and Tiger, does it
    work with the Bridge mode ?
    I've been trying it now with several different takes and all I get
    out of it is sort of a hummingbird like a whistle
    or pigs been strangled..take your pick..is it just me ??
    It's the 2.6.0.6 Bridge version with Logic 7.1.1 and Tiger 10.4.2.
    Thanks

    Wll first answering my own question I may have found out the culprit.
    After launching my mLan auto connector and looking at MIDI/Audio set up I found that even Logic was working allright with my 01X though it still insisted I was using Internal audio instead of mLan. After changing that, the first and so far only test, I was able to use Melodyne OK.
    Otherwise I repeat what others already said here that although Logic lists Melodyne 2.6.0.6 as incompatible it will work.
    I guess now that v3 is due out in about a month we'll never see the 2.6. updated to fully work with Logic 7.

  • New iMac 2.1 ghz With Logic Pro 7

    Just wondering if any of you out there have a new iMac and how it is running with logic.
    I have just ordered a new iMac with 1.5gb of RAM and i am going to be using it mostly with Logic.
    Cheers guys
    Ben UK

    Ben,
    The iMac is a beautiful looking computer. When I see one I marvel at how they pack all that technology into the screen. A friend of mine bought one this summer. He intended to put sketches down on GarageBand, and I would import them into LogicPro to beef them up into a proper demo.
    He set it up one weekend and spent the evening trying it out in his back bedroom. Using his SE Electronics mic plugged into his Mackie Spike, he tried to record a little Acoustic Guitar.
    The iMac started to whine. These iMacs have a lot of heat generation, seeing as everything is wedged together in the 'screen'. So the fan has to work very hard. The Fan is also right in front of where you are, so whether it is no noisier than any other computer fan, it's NEARER to you so it seems noisier.
    By the time you've had the iMac switched on a few minutes and you've got the GarageBand song loaded up with a few tracks (or in your case LogicPro7), the iMac will be working VERY hard so the fan will be doing the same. Some say the bearings in the iMac fan cases can be a bit variable regarding noise levels.
    Anyway - The iMac my friend bought was returned a few days later and replaced with a G5 Dual. More expensive? - A little or a lot depending on the screen you buy. But he now can record in a quieter environment.
    You will have 7 days after the iMac is delivered to consider whether my advice is right or not and you wish to return it. If you 'want out', google "Statutory Rights" for the UK.
    Like I said the iMac is excellent but not for ProAudio.

    did you run the au validation programm? maybe if the validation crashed or didnt work you should update battery with the au hotfixes. battery 1 and 2 working for me since first installation.

  • Can't run Ableton Live 8 as slave with Logic 9 in 64bit (Melodyne error)

    Hi,
    Just downloaded Melodyne Editor 2.01 and installed on Mac Book Pro and iMac. I loaded Logic 9 in 64bit and then Ableton Live 8 as a slave. I was met with the following message:
    An error has occurred while opening “Melodyne singletrack” via ReWire. It is probably already in use. In order to run this program as a ReWire slave application, you will have to launch Live first.
    This stops Live from working as a slave. This does not happen when Logic in launched in 32bit mode and everything works normally. The same thing is happening on both my Mac Book Pro and iMac.
    Can I run Live 8 as a slave with Logic in 64bit mode? If so can anyone suggest a work around or solution please. I tried to search but couldn't find what I was looking for.
    Thanks in advance, apologies if its a daft question.
    SM.
    Logic 9 (latest version)
    Live 8 (latest version)
    Melodyne Editor 2 (latest version)
    Mac Book Pro (2010)
    2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB RAM
    OS X Lion 10.7.2
    iMac (2011)
    2.8 Quad Core i7
    12GB RAM
    OS X Lion (latest version)

    Do you actually have Rewire installed?
    If you are on an Intel machine, then you're running Logic intel-native but Live 4 PPC-emulated - you should really upgrade to a version of Live that works natively on your Intel Mac.
    This maybe why Logic can't see Live, depending on how Rewire handles this.

  • Open Hub: How-to doc "How to Extract data with Open Hub to a Logical File"

    Hi all,
    We are using open hub to download transaction files from infocubes to application server, and would like to have filename which is dynamic based period and year, i.e. period and year of the transaction data to be downloaded.
    I understand we could use logical file for this purpose.  However we are not sure how to have the period and year to be dynamically derived in filename.
    I have read in sdn a number of posted messages on a similar topic and many have suggested a 'How-to' paper titled "How to Extract data with Open Hub to a Logical Filename".  However i could not seem to be able to get document from the link given.
    Just wonder if anyone has the correct or latest link to the document, or would appreciate if you could share the document with all in sdn if you have a copy.
    Many thanks and best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,
    After creating open hub press F1 in Application server file name text box from the help window there u Click on Maintain 'Client independent file names and file paths'  then u will be taken to the Implementation guide screen > click on Cross client maintanance of file name > create a logical file path by clicking on new entiries > after creating logical file path now go to Logical file name definition there give your Logical file , name , physical file (ur file name followed by month or year what ever is applicable (press f1 for more info)) , data format (ASC) , application area (BW) and logical path (choose from F4 selection which u have created first), now goto Assignment of  physical path to logical path > give syntax group >physical path is the path u gave at logical file name definition.
    however we have created a logical path file name to identify the file by sys date but ur requirement seems to be of dynamic date of tranaction data...may u can achieve this by creating a variable. U can see the help from F1 that would be of much help to u. All the above steps i have explained will help u create a dynamic logical file.
    hope this helps u to some extent.
    Regards

  • How can I get an old Casio CTK-593 to work with Logic Express?

    Title pretty much says it all.
    I have a Fast Track USB from M-Audio to connect it to my pc but I don't know how to get it working with Logic.
    Thanks in advance.

    Did you check your connection with the audio-midi-setup.app in the programs/utilities folder of your MAC (not "pc" pls)?
    If you have a working MIDI connection, you'll need to open up a software instrument track within Logic to play Logic's instruments via your keyboard.

  • HT3423 My iMac came with logic Express 8 installed, how do I get it to work on my mac book pro

    My iMac came with Logic Express 8 Pre installed. How do I get it to work on my Mac Book Pro

    Along with your OS and applications installation DVDs, you should have gotten an LE8 installation DVD along with its manual and serial numbers when you bought your iMac.
    Your license allows you to install LE8 on two computers as long as they are your computers, you are the sole user, and you do not run Logic on both simultaneously. So dig out your installation DVD, install it on your MacBook Pro and enter your serial number and you will be good to go.
