How far does the disk eject?

I just picked up a brand new 24" 3.06GHz iMac yesterday night, and whenever I eject a disk it seems like it doesn't eject it far enough, considering that on my MacBook Pro it always ejects the disk far enough so I can stick my finger in the hole of the disk to pull it out, but on the iMac it ejects it around an inch less that on the MBP, and I don't really feel comfortable pulling the disk out by holding the flat surfaces. Is this normal for the iMac?
Heres a pic:

I would be curious to know what brand of superdrive Apple is now using. Can you check the system profiler and post that.
My 1st gen iMacCoreDuo ejects the disk too far and if i'm not quick enough it shots out and bounces on the table.

Question on how far does the signal reach?
Like from the system box at home base, could you take the laptop what distance from it? Miles? Or jus a short distance? And what distance if anyone knows?

My 54G is at the far end of my house in my home office, 80+ feet away thru 4 walls I still get 25% signal, enough for a decent connection. Having an all wood construction house helps a bit. Once I was in my car out in the driveway (~90 ft) and it still worked OK.
I've got the bigger hi-gain antennas, not sure that they improve the range that much. I didn't really notice much signal gain going from the short ones to the tall ones.

  • How Far Does The Ejected Disc Come Out?

When you eject a disc out of your iMac, how far does it come out? Mine stops right before the middle circle. On my iBook it used to come out to about half way through the circle.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    HI Scott,
Mine ejects to the middle of the disk. My iBook does that same as yours. Nothing to worry about.
The idea here is to grab the disk from the inside circle and the outside circumference of the disk as to not leave fingerprints on the disk itself.

  • How far does the visual code generation go.

    Hi,
I am new to Dreamweaver. However I have got so far that I can set up a site, create connection to my remote webserver and MySQL database and made my page display a value fetched from the database in a textbox, all created visually.
But - if I now want to make a simple search page with a text box to enter a search term a button to execute the search and a text/list box to display the result(s). Can this be done visualy or am I expected to code such things manualy. Are there any tutorials to look at.
    /Mats

That's what I wondered too, and how to make it create while loop to fetch all the results to a listbox . Just wanted to make sure that I was not missing something cool her...

  • How far does iPhoto preserve the RAW file when editing?

I'm trying to get a better understanding of how iPhoto handles RAW photos and hope you'll answer a humble, possibly misguided question:
How far through the editing process does iPhoto preserve RAW data?
Here's what I mean by this: I understand that iPhoto cannot "edit" a RAW file, but there are a couple of ways it look like it was. Let's take a WB adjustment as an example.
Option 1: "Convert on import." iPhoto converts the RAW to a JPG when I import the file (or begin to edit it). Then adjusting the WB will be a filter applied to a JPG file (meaning there wasn't much advantage to shooting RAWs in the first place)!
Option 2: "Fully RAW." iPhoto imports the RAW file and then "processes" it whenever you display or print it. When you edit it (e.g., adjusting the white balance), it keeps track of the new parameters (e.g., WB, or contrast, or cropping, etc.) and then uses these parameters the next time it processes the RAW for display. This would mean, for example, that there would be no difference in quality between
    A. Taking a freshly-imported RAW and setting the white balance to X, and
    B. Taking a freshly-imported RAW, setting the white balance to Y, closing iPhoto, re-opening iPhoto then editing the picture again and changing the WB to X.
Option 3: "Somewhere in-between." Files are imported as RAW, but then converted to JPG at the end of the first editing. Subsequent edits are treated as JPG edits (including the resulting loss in image quality with each edit).
Can anyone clarify this? How does the answer differ for different types of edits (e.g., WB vs. image rotation vs., expanding the highlights, etc.)? Is the answer different for Aperture vs. iPhoto?
    Thanks!
    -Mike

How about the 4 th option... None of the above.
Option 3 is closest. As the Help says:
When you edit a RAW-format photo and click Done, iPhoto applies your changes to the RAW image data and stores the data as a JPEG file (the original RAW file remains unchanged).
It can also be saved as tiff is you prefer.
Here's where it's different from your option 3:
Subsequent edits are treated as JPG edits (including the resulting loss in image quality with each edit)
There is no loss of image quality with each edit because of iPhoto's _[Non-Destructive Editing Feature|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/7.0/en/11464.html]_ .
You can, of course, re-process the RAWs if you choose. This will bring you right back to the Original file.
Aperture is quite different. It's at your option 2

  • How far will the extreme reach and how many users can be on there at the same time?

How far will the airport extreme reach and how many users can be on there at the same time?

Last question first, since that is the easy one......approximately 50 (fifty) users for wireless depending on how active each user might be.
The first question is much more difficult, as distance is not really the issue with wireless.....obstructions are the issue.
A wireless signal can easily travel 300 feet or more with no obstructions in the signal path.
But, a typical wall of sheetrock or wallboard in a home will absorb....on average....15-20% of the wireless signal. Brick or adobe will obviously absorb much more. A ceiling....because it is thicker....will absorb about 25-35% of the signal.
So, if the wireless signal must pass through several walls and a ceiling, there won't be much, if any, of the signal left....even though the distance that the signal travels is not great...for example, 20-25 feet.
Other wireless networks around you at the neighbors can also affect the relative strength of the wireless signal.
The bottom line....locate the AirPort Extreme where wireless devices will receive a signal with the least amount of obstructions in the signal path. Your actual performance cannot be predicted in advance. You will not know how well the AirPort Extreme works for you until you try it out in your home.
If you find that the signal does not reach as far as needed,  you will need to add additional "extenders", like an AirPort Express to provide more signal coverage.

Your problem is not Boot Camp, in fact, is your optical drive. Win XP requires indeed sp2, but also the internal drive, does not work from external optical drive.
For other possible tricks, please use the appropriate Boot Camp forum, not here. Mac OS X may be installed from both external and internal optical drive and/or internal/external partition of a disk, any disk. Windows is not so generous.

  • How well does the TomTom app work?

Let's hear it, how well does the TomTom app work compared to a dedicated GPS device? Are you using TomTom's special cat kit? Is there a way to load TomTom binary files (POIs) onto the iphone?

I have used a Garmin Nuvi760 for about 2 years and have been very pleased. When TomTom had a sale for $50 and now seems to be $60, I bought it. I also bought a kensington car mount. (http://us.kensington.com/html/17546.html). I like it. with my 3GS, there is no need for the amplified TomTom car kit. The speech quality could be better but it's loud enough. I do like the on screen presentations a bit more than my Garmin. I'm still getting used to the interface. It's a real good thing that I can use my contacts file to set destinations. My next step is to go on an 800 mile trip this month and compare the two systems side by side. So far, TomTom has not always made the best route choice and once sent me to the right address in an adjoining city. (This is southern Cal) Not good, but these are map issues which will always be evolving. Is it worth it? Yes. At $100, maybe. The good thing is that my phone is always with me and so is my GPS. I does put a drain on the battery, so it should be on charging while using in a car.

  • How far outside the "38 cities" will 4G reach?

I'm primarily asking about West Lafayette.  I live about 3-4 miles outside of West Lafayette in the city of Lafayette.  Does anyone know how far outside the "city limits" the 4G access will reach?  If I am able to get 4G speeds, I'll hold off on upgrading until the 4G phones come out.  If not, I'll be upgrading at the end of the month.  Looking at Sprints 4G coverage maps, the service seems to reach pretty far outside the city limits.  I know it is different technology and different companies, but I was just curious how this would progress.
    Thanks

    Follow this link;  http://phones.verizonwireless.com/4g/
go to the map feature, and their is a zip code lookup available.  I live outside of Pittsburgh proper by about 25 miles, but my zip is included in the 4G coverage area.  Now I just need the phones to show up!!

  • How far does airport extremes range go

how far does airport extremes range go

Apple says up to 300 feet or so, but since tests like this are performed in a very large room with no walls, the specification won't mean much to most of us in the real world.
Bottom line is that it is not possible to make a good guess about distance capabilities in a home without knowing the number of walls and or ceilings the signal must pass through.
(A typicall wall of sheetrock and 2 by 4s will absorb on average about 15-20% of the signal and a ceiling absorbs more because it is thicker).
As a very rough guide...if the signal from the wireless router must pass through 4-5 walls, or a ceiling and 2-3 walls, then there won't be much of it left by the time it reaches a computer or other wireless device.

I am having trouble trying to boot from my lion osx install disk on a 2007 macbook.  The disk ejects when I start up with the option key depressed.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

How did you get a Lion OSX install disc? They don't exist. Do you mean the gray disks that came with your 2007 MacBook?
If you mean the gray disks, try starting up with the "c" key held down.
What version of OSX is on your MacBook now? Have you tried booting from the Recovery partition?

when i try to install snow leopard with install disk, it has me restart the computer instead of installing. can anyone help me figure out how to get the disk to actually install?

Ok, it's just a glitch that it's not auto-rebooting from the disk.
Please backup your personal files off the machine to a regualr external drive and disconnect all drives before doing anything
Take the 10.6 disk out and clean and polish the bottom with a very soft clean cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to cut the oils.
Stick the disk in and reboot holding c key down, this will make it boot from the disk and you can install Snow Leopard that way.

Hello, I got exactly the same problem. I bought two iPod Nano 2 GB one for me and one for my wif and hers was just ok. Mine on the contrary got a message from itunes that was not possible to transfer the musics to my iPod because there was no space on disk. And this without using it. I installed the updater from january 2006, but when trying to connect and update it there's a huge delay and the iPod Nano screen continues with the Do not disconnect message. Then I tried to restore it but it's displaying the same message for more than two hours. I am going to shut the restore dialog box and then disconnect it from windows and try to see how it goes...
If you have any ideas please give me some help.
    Tks
