How far should SuperDrive eject discs?

How far does your SuperDrive eject discs?
The one on my MBP Core 2 Duo 17" 2.33 GHz ejects recordable discs only about 1-3/8 in, which makes it impossible to remove them without touching the top or bottom surface. My newer MBP Core 2 Duo 17" 3.06 GHz ejects them much farther (about halfway), so they can be handled by the edges instead.
The problem doesn't occur with commercially pressed installation discs, only with discs I use to record on (Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R, Verbatim 8X DVD-R and Taiyo-Yuden 8X CD-R).
This is the second replacement of the drive from AppleCare with the same problem. (At least I think they replaced it a second time. The service record said, "Doesn't eject media" instead of "Doesn't fully eject media," so maybe they tested it and thought it was fine.)
Is this normal behavior? Anyone else seeing this?
Thank you,
David

Do you notice any difference between commercially recorded discs and recordable ones?

  • How Far Does The Ejected Disc Come Out?

When you eject a disc out of your iMac, how far does it come out? Mine stops right before the middle circle. On my iBook it used to come out to about half way through the circle.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    HI Scott,
Mine ejects to the middle of the disk. My iBook does that same as yours. Nothing to worry about.
The idea here is to grab the disk from the inside circle and the outside circumference of the disk as to not leave fingerprints on the disk itself.

  • How far should I upgrade from snow leopard

how far should I upgrade from snow leopard.  I just installed more RAM for a total of 4 GB.
    Thanks

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

    Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion. Personal opinion, I'd stay with Snow Leopard rather than Lion.

  • Superdrive ejects discs including cleaning discs

My superdrive has recently begun ejecting discs without opening them. On the chance that the lens needed cleaning I got a cleaning disc, but it gets ejected, too. Any thoughts? Bad drive?

DNFG5 Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have a read of the points in this post (link).
    Carlitosmex,
As you have an iMac G5 the Optical Drive is a laptop spec drive and entire different to the drives used in iMac G4s which are full size 5.25" desktop drives. You should post in the iMac G5 forum.

  • Superdrive ejecting discs after few seconds ...

    Hi,
Everthing worked well for 5 months ... After last update of the Tiger to 10.4.5 I have noticed that whatever type of disc I insert superdrive is ejecting it after few seconds. I've tried CD Audio , DVD's ever Tiger installation discs .. all were ejected after few seconds ...
Do you have any ideas what may be wrong ?
    it's strange ???
    Kind Regards
    Ralph

    hi ralph--
i would try various things for this. first i would boot to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. if that does nothing, then try an smu reset, which is quite simple for your model of computer. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446. also, install any available firmware updates for your computer. they are available on this page. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303903 if that doesn't do anything, then i would try disk repair http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672. and if that fails, then i would try the archive and install http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120. but if you archive, make sure you repair the disk beforehand, and do software updates after. i would not archive and install without go through the other troubleshooting steps. hope this solves your problem. • How far should a time capsule broadcast?

I am having trouble connecting to my time capsule if I am more than about 30 feet away. I have a airport that is suppose to act as a bridge but that doesn't seem to be doing much at all. I am wondering if this is all the broadcast range that exists on a time capsule or if there is a problem. I am wondering if something is interfering with the time capsule. Does anyone have any ideas?

There is a huge difference between 30' in clear air and 30' through a concrete floor and half a dozen brick walls.
The Age of the TC can also be a factor.. how old and what model.. A1xxx from the base?
Interference can certainly affect it if you live in apartment building for instance with heaps of people using 2.4ghz the band will be full. The TC at its best is average.. it is far from being an RF power house.
Load a wireless analyser onto your computer.. istumbler for Mac.. inssider for PC .. better on laptop of course and do a proper survey of what wireless signal you have.
Setup the TC again. Give it all short names, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
Lock the wireless channel, try 11, 6, 1 in that order on 2.4ghz. They are the only non-overlapping channels.
The airport that is supposed to work as wireless bridge must also get good signal so it needs to be setup in a position half-way but where it is able to send and receive.. to both locations .. primary router and endpoint user with equal quality.

  • How far should I o/c my K8N Neo2

Well ok, right now I o/ced my parts to 2.4 GHz, with memory timings of 2.5-4-4-10 1T 1:1 ratio. Now I've read that I shouldn't overclock my computer past 250 fsb if my HT is set to 4X, so should I change it to 3X and keep going? Right now I am running prime95 on it, to make sure it'll last at least. My Crucial ballistix should be handling lower timings though, so its says.. So right now, my questions are. Should I be using clockgen to o/c to 2500? Should I attempt for 2600 Mhz and up? What timings should I set for my memory? What should my vcore and dimm be at?
Right now, I have it set on
    Memory:2.5.4-4-10 1T (as I stated above..)
    CPU:240X10
    VCore:1.55 +5.0%
    Dimm:2.85v
    System temperature: 20c
CPU temperature: 57 C (on prime95, is that bad?)
12v:11.20 (Aspire 500w, sucks, but hey, 10% tolerance it can last)
    5v:5.00
BIOS version:1.3 (I used live update)
Also, I am a bit confused on how memtest86 works, I don't really understand the instructions either... can you guys tell me how? Heh, Im a noob... sorry if it bothers you.

I am new to A64 socket 939, but I think I know a little... lol, maybe not but here it goes nontheless
What is the rated speed of you ram? If it can handle 250+ mhz, then by all means try 250 x 10. Depending on your CPU and cooling solution you could work with 2.5 ghz; my 3500+ can, but my XMS3700 can't.
As for HT and its multi... what I figured out is that it needs to be no less than 1000 mhz and no more than 1100 mhz for the system to work. FSB 200 x 5 = 1000, so if you overclock up to 220 mhz the system still will boot; I tried and it was ok, until I tried 221+ mhz
So if you reach 250 mhz, it will be 250 x 4 and still be 1000 mhz HT. The idea is to run higher than 250, between 250 and 275 to really take advantage of the HT... that if 275 x 4 = 1100 mhz will work, maybe its not the same as 220 x 5.
My top CPU temperature at 2520 mhz (252 x 10) was 57º C, which I think is quite normal and between operational limits... if someone knows diferent please let me know. I have an Abit IC7 + 2.4C system right here and the temperatures with an SP94 are crazy in comparizon; 250 mhz FSB and the CPU is like 53º C idle, 67º C load... yet the Athlon64's weren't made to bake stuff

  • Music videos; how far have you increased the default volume?

I'm sure you've all noticed that when listening to music videos through the regular playlist (ie: not via videos list) the quality of the sound is rather poor in comparison to regular music.
I've done a "Get Info" on each of my music videos (purchased through iTunes) and boosted the sound up 2 notches, however I still find they are comparably quieter than the other music.
How far should I go before the sound quality might become distorted?

Thanks for the fast, technically astute reply! Very reassuring - and truly appreciated!!

  • How do I get the disc to eject?

    hiya
    I am in trouble
I am having the neverending spinny gear at startup
so I have put the G4 install and restore CD into the drive and held down the C to reinstall the software ..
but I get a message that says that I have to restart my computer
and then when I do I get the neverending spinny gear
and then I try the C again
and I even tried the old standby to use the D and get the hardware test to run.
but it just tells me to restart
    SO
how do I get the disc OUT to put in the G4 install 1 disc? I have tried holding down the eject button during various phases of the whole start-up shut-down process. I maybe should run the techtool disc first though. I did get it hooked up with the Terminal drive process and have everything that I need and now I would just like to get this baby reformatted! and reinstalled!

    Hi,
    Try using Open Firmware.
To eject a disc with Open Firmware commands, follow these steps:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple and () icons on it.
    3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
    4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
    5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
    6. Type: mac-boot
    7. Press Return.
Your computer should now start up normally.

  • Internal iMac superdrive keeps ejecting discs

The Superdrive on my iMac will not accept any discs. It just immediately ejects discs that I insert. This happened before about a year ago, but I forgot how I got it to work, and I can't find the thread here.
Thus this request: What do I need to do to get the Superdrive on my iMac to work again? I already cleaned it out completely with the air duster. I know that there is some keyboard startup trick or something that needs to be done to reset something, but my brain is aging, and I forgot what it is. Obviously any helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

  • Usb superdrive will only eject discs, connected to macbook pro

new usb superdrive connected to new macbook pro, superdrive will not read discs, just ejects discs.

    Hello wwboa
For issues with your SuperDrive not reading the disks and spitting them back out, check out the troubleshooting below to get it working for you.
Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801
Accepts discs but they don't mount or are automatically ejected
Make sure the drive is not placed upside down. The aluminum enclosure should be facing up as shown in section 1.
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X Lion v10.7 and later: Click the Apple () menu and then hold down the Option key. Choose System Information from the menu.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.

  • My MacBook's SuperDrive spins then ejects disc

    Hi,
My MacBook's SuperDrive is not working, it just spins makes a grinding noise then ejects disc.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting advice for this?
    It's a late 2008 Aluminum Unibody Macbook.
    Thanks

OK so about 2 days ago out of nowhere my Superdrive would grind and eject every disc that I put into it when just the day before it was working fine but this happened earlier in the month. I was told to use a DVD/CD cleaner and that didnt work! So as a computer tech im used to taking things apart so I went under my Macbook Pro which was out of warranty and removed the Superdrive to inspect it. Everything was in tact and i even plugged it in to the motherboard and turned the computer on while the top metal cover was off and the disk ran and said ready to burn my DVD but as soon as i screwed that case back on the Disc would grind and eject again. NOW heres the reason and the fix!......When metal heats it gets soft and bends and the top metal cover that screws in over the superdrive is just a flimsy piece of metal and when it gets hot from the computer and the spinning of a DVD or CD it bends down a little onto the DVD (the grinding noise) till eventually it touches the DVD so much that the macbook just spits it out because it cant spin properly! So what you need to do it take the cover off.....bend it upward a little so that theres a little room between the DVD and the roof of the Superdrive because when the DVD goes in that little black thing that spins the DVD raises it up a little and also make sure that the little hooks that the screws screw into isnt bent downward either! if they are bend them upward a lil so that they are straight! After doing all this the Superdrive should be working as it should when you got your Mac, mines dont grind and dont make noises anymore and it actually reads my DVD's and burnes them faster!
