How good are the new skins?? (anyone has one?)

Ive seen the new ipod skins that you stick on but i am confused
could someone please tell me what they are and anyone who has one are they good protection???
thanks
Ganjerson

They are thin pieces of flexible plastic that have a light adhesive on one side. You basically stick it on your iPod like a sticker. These types of things are often used to protect PDA screens. I believe that was the original use for these types of products.
I use these on both my regular iPod and now my nano. I like these better than a case as they don't add to the size of the iPod and most people won't even notice they are even on there (as long as you are careful when applying it). They don't offer any kind of protection from falling, but they offer scratch protection. Another nice thing is that you can still use things like the dock with these protectors on.

  • How good are the new Macs for Logic?

I've read some damning articles about some problems with the new macs/os selling now, esp running Logic.
Any ideas on what a fellow traveller should buy?
Is it worth the trouble right now?
Should one wait until the issues are resolved?
What should one do if one needed a working DAW right NOW?
    Thanks for any input.
    Happy holidays to all.
    Peace & love,
    BB

What problems especially are you talking about? new macs not working together with Logic pro 9?
I'm using Logic 9 and i'm having my problems with it, but what i've been experiencing is that normally the mac is not the problem, it's logic 9 itself, or maybe the programming.
but if you want to be mobile with your equipment, i'd recommend a macbook pro with quite a bit of ram and a fast hard drive. (7.200 rpm, something like a seagate barracuda).
from my experience apple is not very fast when it comes to fixing bugs in logic but so far 9.0.2 is working pretty stable. another option would be to use cubase, or digital performer as daw?

  • How good are the WD MyBook Studio Ed. Refurbished Replacements?

I have a Western Digital MyBook Studio Edition for Mac - External Hard Drive that is 2 years old, and has started to have problems.
It keeps running constantly and gets very warm. I unplug the cables from it, let it cool for a few minutes, replug the cables, and do a forced backup.... but the next scheduled backup, it starts up and will keep running for hours without doing the backup.
So I unplug it again, let it rest, replug, then do a forced backup, and everything repeats itself as previously mentioned.
I called WD Support this morning, and she said that I could send it in, and they would send me a refurbished replacement. I have read on other forums (tools, etc.) that people send items in for a replacement, and they get back a refurbished unit that is all banged up, and doesn't work properly.
My question is... how good is the WD refurbished replacements that they send back. Are they in good condition? Does anyone have any experience with WD on this?
I have even thought of just getting a new external HD from another company, (G-Drive, LaCie, etc), but I have seen mixed reviews on them. I like the G-Drive Solid State (no moving parts) but that is over $500.... too rich for my blood.
    Any recommendations on either question.
    Thanks,
    Jim

From what I've read on the internet WD offer poor customer service and their products are of low quality. Certainly I have experienced first-hand many WD hard drives failing, mostly with the dreaded click click click. I've only known two or three Seagates go this way in all the years I've been using hard drives (pretty much since the early days of 120MB).
It may be expensive, but I highly recommend the ReadyNAS Duo as a backup solution and / or as general network storage. I have one set up with two 1TB Seagate NS drives in mirrored mode and it works very well. Seagate NS drives are enterprise-standard, designed for use in RAID hardware where they will be in close proximity to one another, Seagate AS drives are not designed for this purpose and so may fail in this situation. Other hard drive manufacturers make enterprise-grade drives too, I'm guessing that the ones WD use in their MyBook products are not these drives though which might explain why there are so many failures. The enterprise-grade drives typically cost about £20 more but I think for reliable backup purposes it's well worth the extra expense.

  • How good is the new mac-book pro at running PC games, will it run...

I currently have a mac mini which i have boot-camped for playing PC games.
Many of the new games exceed the graphics spec of my mac.
I am considering buying one of the new mac-book pro's.
Could someone please tell me if the new macbook pro runs the following PC games through boot-camp .
    1) Call of duty 4
    2) Battlefield 2
    3) Rainbow 6 vegas (1 and 2)
I know it is possible to get some of the above games for OSX but i want them on PC so i can play them over my local area network with other PCs.
    Thanks
P.S: the new mack book has: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512/256 MB

    ziggy067,
Both the Macbook Pro and your Mini will run Windows games, under Windows, just like any other similarly-configured PC.
In other words, the new Macbook Pro, and indeed any of the Macbook Pros, will run the games you list just fine.

  • How good is the new Adobe Reader IOS for fillable forms and interactive pdfs?

At last adobe reader for ios has been updated so now fillable forms can be completed on ipad/iphone but how good is it?
I've tested a form and reset form/print form and save as buttons do not seem to work.
Form submit seems ok, just wondered what others thought?
Also the new Adobe Reader IOS is now able to display interactive pdfs with buttons such as go to next page etc yet page transitions do not work? Again whats everyone elses opinion on the reader ios update?

My preliminary experience is that Reader does better with forms than with interactivity.
I've written a couple postings on InDesignSecrets.com about PDF readers for tablets. Here's the latest one:
Finding the Best Tablet PDF Reader
You should also check out PDF Expert (US $9.99) which handles interactivity better than Reader if that is important to you.

  • How hot are the new MBPs?

    I have an original 17"
Was thinking of getting a new 15" for portability reasons.
Are they any less hot? Are there any articles or links where I can read more?
    THANKS!
    MacBook Pro 17" 100gb 2.16 ghz 2GB sdram   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm running the new Santa Rosa MBP in its fully-maximized configuration. There have been absolutely no problems with the machine, and I'm very pleased with this amazing computer, which replaces an iMac G5 as my desktop machine.
According to iStat Pro the internal temperature of the machine is in the low 50s C (about 135 degrees F) most of the time, with both fans running at about 2000 rpm. This doesn't seem unreasonable for a machine of this power and seems to be cooler than previous postings about older machines.
I have the machine on a Rhinollin pad on my exotic wood desk. The pad seems more than enough to permit ventiliation under the machine and is protecting the wood of the desk fine. It gets a bit warm but nothing that would come close to damaging the expensive wood.
I have the machine in a clear polycarbonate SpeckProducts shell. This has not changed the heat profile of the machine at all. BTW, the shell makes the machine look even sharper and protects it from 17 pounds of cat who thinks she should sleep on the cover when it's closed.

  • How Good are the Books

I'm wondering if anyone here has created and had printed one of these books. THe reason I ask is, i am a photographer and I am thinking about offering photobooks as something my clients can buy, but i dont want to use the iPhoto version if they arent good quality. Please only answer if you have printed a book, I dont want answers like "i'm sure they are great or apple wouldnt offer them"

I have made many books, several recentlly. I thought the quality was outstanding. However, it depends on what you are wanting. Quite a few of my books were made with scanned in snapshots. I was pleased with the results even though the photos were of inferior quality from my end. They still looked fine in the books. I even went ahead with the book when I got the yellow warning triangle that the photo's resolution would not be good enough. I also used nonstandard sized photos that I had cropped, and they looked just as I wanted.
The point is that only you can decide if the quality suits your purpose. My purpose was to create a book of memories of certain events as gifts for the people involved. I did one for my father-in-law's birthday, my parents' anniversary, etc. I even did one for our daughter and son-in-law that was a page-by-page comparison of our wedding and reception and theirs...that is, the left-hand sides of the book pages were photos from our wedding and the right-hand sides were comparable photos from their wedding. Obviously, their photos, which were mostly digital, were better than ours, but the book was a fun book for them.
As a professional, you may be dissatisfied with quality if you are a perfectionist, but as an amateur photographer, I am pleased to create these and give them as gifts.
One suggestion: always create a large book. Apparently the medium and small books are lesser quality. I can't speak from my experience since I always have ordered the large books, but I know that others have reported the smaller ones were not so nice as the large ones.
I recommend that you make one book as a test and see if you like the results. A 20 page book is around $35, I think, and worth it to find out. I did use another service and sent approximately the same photos as I did for the Apple version, and there were some differences, but generally the quality was about the same.
One other thought: there are several sites in the US that print the books, and they may vary. I am in California and all my books have been great....no problems with colors running/bleeding or any aberrations in the bindings/ front photos/ etc.

  • How Good are the Graphics?

Hello, I am looking to buy a new computer and I'm looking for one that will be able to run modern games such as Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), H1Z1, Battlefield Hardline, maybe Garry's Mod (Gmod), and any other games to be released in the future that seem interesting to me. I seen that this particular computer has all of the minimum requirements for GTA V but the only thing I do not know is the graphics card, is it good enough to meet the minimum requirement or even recommended requirement? Please help, if this video card will work it will save me $400 on a computer that I know will work. Thanks!

It's a challenge. Here is a site that would lead you into a better choice. You can use the "built-it" section to customize several configurations.  You can select each game, and run the built-it.

  • How good are the Yoda 10 and 8 as a budget priced tablet?

I have a Nexus 7 which I love It has such a sharp screen and is very fast
    But want something bigger
Don't know a thing about the Yogas
Are they any good? Would use for videos emailing photos etc
Got to have a clear screen a sd card slot and maybe the otg cable facility to connect to memory stick or tv
    Thanks
If you have one but wouldn't recommend is thre another better?
    Only want to spend £200

I'm quite impressed with my Yoga 10 - it's stable, pretty quick and does what I need it to.
I'd say for your needs though, there'd be one thing holding it back - the screen. In short, it's pretty lacklustre.
The resolution isn't all that high given what some flagship devices have; the colours appear a little washed out (to my eyes at least) and there is a noticeable yellow tint to the overall display.
I negate the yellow tint with an app called Screen Adjuster (basically allows you to specify a colour filter to put 'over' the screen), and it doesn't really cause me any problems and I don't tend to notice it. If you're going to be watching a lot of video however then finding the right 'balance' for the colour filter could annoy you, and the lack of vibrancy will certainly take something away from the whole experience.
Other than that, it's a more than capable device IMO. The battery life is fairly marathon-esque - I can usually go about 2 or 3 days with my usage (heavy web use, some image editing, downloading) until I need to charge.
People give MediaTek (the guys who make the processor) a lot of grief, but I personally find this MediaTek chip to be a lot more stable than the Tegra 3 in my old Transformer Prime.
The much-talked about multi-mode stuff? Mostly just marketing, but the kickstand at the back does come in handy if you're typing a long email or web post, or if you want to use the tablet as a kind of radio (I have Spotify on mine, I stand it up on my desk when I'm working and I can glance over at it to see what's playing etc).
So in summary, I think the display may be the dealbreaker for you. My suggestion would be to buy one from PC World/Currys etc, basically somewhere that'll give you a no-fuss return policy and try it out for a week. If you don't like it, you generally get either a 14 day or 28 day return period.
Either that or up your budget and grab a Nexus 10.

  • How good are the USB adapters with the WRT300-N

I have a guest house I am trying to fit with interent connection and I felt like
the WRT300 with thf N network would reach.
The interenet conection stays connect to the Laptop in the yard...yet once
inside it looses it's connection. I have the latest firmware installed 0.93.3
I'm wondering if the USB adaptor on the laptop will keep teh connection inside the house.
Does anyone have any experience with this??

are u using the wireless-g or wireless-n usb adapters ?
if u are using the wireless - g adapter , access the router ui and go to the "wireless" tab..select the wireless network mode as g-only and radio band - standard channel and wireless channel as standard channel - 11.....

  • How can I know the new Material Master has been created?

Does anyone have been tried about how to trigger the new Material Master has been created at a time interaval(maybe an hour or a day)?
I want to transfer the new Material Master within a given period from SAP R/3 4.6C to .NET Application through standard BAPI or RFC and .NET Connector 2.0. How can I do?
Any suggestion is wellcome. Thank You.

Thank you Jiri Ehrlich for answering my question..
I choose the third way as you suggest..
".. 3) Create your own ABAP function to export whole Material Master, call this function from your .NET application and do synchronizing on .NET side (so your .NET application will be RFC client).."
I've tried RFC that retrieve Material Detail by using BAPI_MATERIAL_GETLIST. It works fine but if I want to retrive the new Material or modified within a given period of time(for example 15 or 30 minutes). How I can do? Is there any standard BAPI or RFC to call from .NET or I have to write new RFC.
I have little background of ABAP so help me please. If I have to create new RFC, is there any ABAP Function to call or which table I can retrive those information.
Anyone can suggest?? Thanks in advance

  • How good are Stereo2 vs. E-D, X3D, etc. And other questions too =D.

I'm curious, and I hope someone can answer this, how good are the Stereo2 glasses in comparison with E-D and X3D.
Also, will they work with any MSI card?  I currently have a Gf4 Ti4200 with TV-Out, will that work?
Finally, what is that card they come packaged with?  IS that just a cheapo video card or do you need it to use the glasses?
    Thanks in advance!  :D
EDIT (and to bump it too ):  Do these glasses support interlaced and page-flipped or what?  Sorry, but I'd realy appreciate it if someone could answer because these glasses would be a great alternative to paying $100 for some X3D or E-D.

  • The Intel Mac Mini uses on-board graphics... how good are they?

I'm seriously considering getting an Intel Mac Mini and telling all my friends to get one, too. However, there's one problem - the graphics.
The whole reason I'd want an Intel Mac would be so that I could dual-boot into Windows Vista (when it comes out) in order to play the latest games.
How suitable are the on-board graphics for gaming? Would it be able to play Halo and Command & Conquer Generals well?
Basically, I want to know if it's the equivalent of a 64 MB graphics chip in speed, or if having on-board graphics makes it a bit slower. Does it have hardware acceleration? And is it suitable for smooth casual gaming at an average resolution?

I am very uneasy about finding integrated graphics in the new mini too.
When I first saw the new Mini website on Apple's website I was so excited "intel processor", "4 usb ports", "faster drives" but something was missing from the website; the "graphics" sub-category. I instantly wondering what was up with that, thinking right away obviously the graphics weren't good enough to brag about. I was right. On Apple's MacMini website, on the "Intel Core" sub-category page, bottom of the page, right side there's a weee comment on integrated graphics, "oh." was my only thought.
It's really disappointing to see integrated graphics in the new Mini. That AND the increase in price. The price of the Intel iMac dropped by $100 when it got introduced, but the Intel Mini's price goes up $100 upon introduction, further closing the price between the iMac and the Mini and making the iMac looking more and more attractice in terms of features-performance-price-value. I better run out and buy a Intel iMac before Apple removes the miniDVI-out port (which I'm predicting it will be removed in the next iMac revision)
Hopefully some Intel MacMini review tests in the coming weeks will reveal better-than-expected graphics performance.
I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this but... doesn't anyone here see that Apple has given us a preview of what's to come by putting integrated graphics in the new Intel MacMini? -- Anyone? I'll tell you -- we're going to see the exact same integrated graphics in the upcoming Intel iBooks, that's what.
