I had two fans replaced in 2012 on my 2006 MacBook Pro were around £10 each with labor at £20. I don't know that these prices are still viable, but it may give you an estimate.

How much does it cost to fix an Macbook Air 11 inch screen?
I am pretty sure the LCD is broken because it seemed as if ink was spreading across the screen and it has been broken for a couple months now. Please Help.

I concur with Osmar. That sounds like a valid guess to me.
If you want to know the exact price you will have to take it to the local Apple Store and let them examine it. Then they will tell you your options and the cost for them.
There always it the question of did running with the damaged screen for months cause additional problems which can only be determined by Apple after they examine it. If there is that could add to the cost significantly.

  • Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air

Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air (just for looking at footage and assembling a rough cut) or is the graphics processing inadequate? Also wondering the same about Photoshop CS5 and Aperture 3.1.3.
    Thanks,

You can install on (1) Tower and (1) Laptop, as long as they are both used by you, and NOT at the same time.  This is for when you edit on your tower, but then need to edit at home, or on the road.  You cannot use one copy of FCP on multiple machines at the same time.  You need one copy for each machine you intend to use at the same time.

How Well Does The 13" MacBook Air Handle The Adobe Creative Cloud Apps?
I'm A Visual Communication Student But I Would Like Extremely Portable Setup Hence The MacBook Air 13", The Main Program's I Use Are:
    Photoshop
    InDesign
    Illustrator
And I Also Use Dreamweaver & After Effects From Time To Time.....
How Would A Top Spec 2013 13" Air Cope Running These Program's??

What about the backpack? Did you have it in one often?
College and notebooks = backpacks usually 9 times out of 10,  was that the case?
Your MacBook Air doesnt like roommates in your backpack
Many collects students or people in general are fond of using non-idealized backpacks (without a padded laptop compartment) along with their books. Sandwiching books around your notebook etc. is an extremely bad idea and can leads to your LCD screen being destroyed when heavy textbooks are pressing against same, or when dropping your backpack, these books slam into your Macbook causing great potential for damage.
~"large white blotch and pixilated lines running down the screen."
    That indicates a significant impact.
~~"They kept telling me it was "excess pressure". I told them it was impossible, it would be normal pressure"
What do you mean by "normal pressure"   ANY pressure to the LCD is abnormal pressure.

  • Improving the 2013 Macbook Air i7 battery life

    Hi
I've checked couple of topics related to this issue seems many people suffer from this problem, i7 8gb ram with 512gb ssd Macbook air has some issues with its battery life it reduced very quickly. I've applied some techniques -like smc reset, deleting launch daemons and agents- and have an improvement in battery performance. Now the point is, when i do the EtreCheck there are many kernel extensions displayed in the report. Is there any way to delete them and slightly improve the battery life?

You can use the new Activity Monitor to determine a unitless "Energy Impact" value:
You can also click the battery icon in your Mac's menu to reveal significant energy hogs (UPS is shown below):
Whereas Apple recently updated their apps to take advantage of Mavericks' energy saving algorithms, few other vendors have. I surmise the prominent "Energy Impact" hall of shame addition to the new Activity Monitor is Apple's subtle way of nudging them into compliance.
Google's plethora of invasive OS X system modifications is a popular reason for excessive battery drain. Google has yet to demonstrate the ability to develop efficient OS X apps, and one can only surmise they are not interested in doing so. If you elect to use Google Chrome or any other poorly implemented OS X programs, you must accept the detrimental effect they will have on performance and battery life.
If you no longer use a Blackberry, uninstall RIM's software. Be sure to follow its uninstallation instructions.

  • ***CALLING ALL MACBOOK AIR USERS*** Will the base model of the 2013 Macbook Air 11" be enough for my needs?

    Ok,
This is my first post to this forum.
I have a Late 2011 i5 Macbook Pro. I used this last year during college but the weight was just unbearable. I have decided this year to upgrade to a Macbook Air. Here is my question.
I am starting uni and will be studying Nursing and so I will not be using any heavy software or progaming etc.
The only thing I will use is Office for Mac and browsing. I normally keep around 15 browser tabs open whilst I research.
I also like to download so I would also like Vuse on my Macbook too. I own an external hardrive and so memory isnt a big deal (unless it makes a difference to the performance of the mac itself, Sorry im not great with this stuff)
Do you guys think the base model of the 11" Macbook Air (1.3ghz, 4GB ram, 128GB SSD) will be enough for my needs or do you think I would need to custom build it (1.7ghz, 8GB ram, 128GB SSD)?
My boyfriend thinks for what im using it for the base model will be fine but I dont want to get it to find that its not enough as my main concern is lag but I also do not want to pay extra for something which isnt going to be fully used (ie my current Macbook Pro).
For those of you who do have the 11' Macbook air, how are you finding it? Also, this will be my main computing device, I am selling my Pro but am thinking of buying the wireless keyboard and trackpad so I can connect to an extenal monitor whilst im at home.
Thank you guys in adavnce for any answers.

I too have a 2011 mackbook pro and I also have a mid 2012 mackbook air 128 gb ssd and 4 gb ram , I am probably goint to sell the pro because I just don't use it anymore . If you intend to do heavy multi tasking 8gb ram as suggested by a previous poster might be worth the extra money.

  • Faulty logic boards installed in the 2013 MacBook Air?

Just discovered the logic board in my 2013 MacBook Air, only one year old, has to be replaced. Computer will not boot up. Anybody else seeing this problem?

    squillo,
A logic board failure can indeed be frustrating! If the computer is within it's one year warranty or you have Apple Care, Apple will be able to take care of you at no charge! I have a few friends with 2013 MacBook Airs with no issues. Can you be more specific about the model. Most of the time Apple will have two to three release refreshes a year and the hardware is different.
    Thanks,
    Ludeth

  • Will cs5 run on the new macbook air?

The new macbook air has no hard drive, but instead an internal 128gb flash drive attached directly to the motherboard. It uses the OSX platform. Will the air run cs5?
    Thanks!

    Andrew,
Sorry to be late in replying but I can assure you that CS5 is running great on the MacBook Air 11" with no issues.

  • How well does CS2 run on the MBP?

Now that the MBP core duo 2s are out, Im sorely tempted to upgrade my current powerbook.
However, I need to run Creative Suite(photoshop, illustrator, etc for those of you who don't know) which I am aware is not intel native. ive heard mixed reports on the speed and efficiency of running CS2, I was hoping someone could give me a definite answer. Is it worth upgrading now or should I just wait till CS3 comes out next year? Currently, CS2 is not extremely fast either with my 512mb of RAM, but its tolerable and the only real trouble is opening huge files.
    PB G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have been working on a MBP since March of last year and all I do is work with CS2. While everyone else here can give you partial experience and hypotheticals I will give you real answers.
I ran a Powerbook G4 before my MBP and had 1.25 gHz in it... My CS2 apps in my MBP with 1.5 gHz show no real drop off or improvement. When I had only the stock .5 mHz in the MBP it took forever to open the program, and heavy tasks did take a while. The change for you won't be noticable to what you are used to on your powerbook, and if you stick 2 gHz in it, you may even notice improvements, especially considering mine is a CD1 chip.
The true downfalls will come when you find you should only run 2 CS2 applications at a time... if you run more you will probably have one quit on you. I find InDesign to be the most stable, with Photoshop rarely quitting as well, and Illustrator quitting the most. That pretty much sums up CS2 anyway, Illustrator is always the one that could really benefit from an autosave such as InDesign has.
I don't have as much trouble running a lot of Rosetta apps, as long as the CS2 are kept down to 2 at a time. I regualarly have ID, Ill, Flash, Dreamweaver and Excel all open at once and while slow at times... it's not too bad considering how ridiculous that is. Office by far performs the worst under Rosetta... It's a monster, and anyone using Excel daily has far more to worry about than people using CS2.

  • How long does it take for the Retina Macbook Pro screen to "burn-in"?

This might be a stupid question, but bare with me.
I left my Macbook Pro Retina Display 13 inch sit on my desk for probably about an hour and a half (maybe more, maybe less). When i left i didn't close the lid because i thought it would go to sleep by itself. However. it didn't. For that whole time the screen was on at roughly half brightness. Is this an issue? In that period of time could the screen have "burned-in"?

    bday19 wrote:
...In that period of time could the screen have "burned-in"?
I guess the answer is another question: did it burn in?
If you can't see the image that was on the screen during that period when something else is on the screen, then it didn't. It's not good practice to leave it that way if you can shut it down or put the screen to sleep but I think another variable is how bright you set the screen to operate and half brightness isn't very bright, which is a good thing.

  • Safari won't run on multiple 2013 Macbook Airs

Hi, I purchased a 2013 MBA on Saturday.  When I got home and fired it up I discovered Safari would crash in seconds.  Couple of hours talking to Applecare but nothing worked.  I went back to the store on Sunday (an hour away) and exchanged it.  That new MBA also couldn't run Safari.  The tech opened a third computer with a different number sequence and it too could not run Safari.  They put google on so I'd have a browser.  I'm debating whether to return the computer though concerned that I'm stuck with tech that is going to have a long running problem as I've been completely unable to find any mention of others having this issue and fixing it.  The fact that 3 brand new computers in a row had the same issue makes me wonder if anyone else has found this and discovered a fix for it yet? Suggestions? Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Does the new (2013) macbook air have the same structure and size as the original?

I just recently purchased the new 2013 13" macbook air and was looking into getting a case. Wanted to know if i need a different case for the 2013 macbook air? Please respond ASAP!!

Actually... if by "original".... you actually mean "original", the answer would be no.  The original Air was released in 2008 and has a significantly different format than the second generation:
