How happy are you with Tiger?

Is Tiger "buggy"?, or does it work smoothly? I'm considering upgrading from Panther. Would I regret it?
Thanks.

I'm basically satisfied with Tiger, but there are a number of "anomalies" that I keep stumbling over.
Biggest problem: if you have to deal with any OS9 machines, YOU CAN'T NETWORK THEM!!! This is the worst! I know that Apple is not going to support OS9 any longer, but what's so bad about allowing the machines to network? Even Windows machines can be networked; why not older Macs? Many of my publishing clients still require older programs, so now I use sneakernet between machines.
Other problems all relate to file format issues:
Lots of fonts turn into unusable Unix Executable Files when brought onto the hard drive. (I solve this problem by stuffing a font folder before placing it on a 10.4 machine.) This was not a problem in 10.3.
There are problems with long file names and problems with files without suffixes (.tif, .doc, .txt, etc.)--apparently Mac/Unix doesn't play so nicely any more. This is probably what destroys the fonts, too.
Even when a TIF file has its proper suffix, something weird happens when copying the file to OS9: it changes from being recognized as a Photohop document to a PictureViewer document; even the preview icon is dumped for the generic PictureViewer one. My preferences are set to open TIF and JPG files with Photoshop. I finally found out how to get my screen captures as PDF, not PictureViewer. (What's with this PictureViewer, anyway?) Again, this was not a problem in 10.3.
Maybe most people won't have these problems, but I seem to be tripped up at every turn by 10.4 taking over unnecessarily. I keep looking through the forums and documentation for solutions, without much success.
Bottom line: I have to keep up with the latest software and hardware to stay in business, so I'm not going back. But some of the aggravation seems unnecessary.

How do I FTP with Tiger without a FTP program?
I saw the tip on the web site a few days ago, but now I can't find it.
    Thanks ahead,

I was very disappointed to find that we were misled. I am not sure if the guy who wrote this simply didn't check before he wrote this or what.
I wonder why Apple just took this off their site without any explanation to the people that were deceived. I spent quite a bit of time browsing discussions and contacting apple support to figure out that there was no truth to this "tip" of the week. How difficult would it have been to simply post a new tip, saying that we should not waste our time with this?

  • How Exactly Are You 'Meant' To Log Onto BT Wifi?

Can someone tell me what exactly are you meant to use to log in to a hotspot ?  Is it the BT ID/Password you access your online customer account with?  Is it the @btinternet.com with the same or different password?  Is it something else?
We got BT Infinity this past Monday (that bit works fine).
We can see/access the local hotspots (BT Wifi/FON), but they fail to recognise our logins details as valid.
When I use our valid BT ID/Password on the "Check the status of your BT Wi-fi account" page, it reports "Enter valid Username". If I switch it for the @btinternet.com address we were given, it says "Authentication failed. Invalid username or password" .
The "Register for BT Wi-fi", section says "Enter valid Username" or "Resubmission Error!" respectively.
To make matters even more confusing, when our broadband was originally switched over to BT from Plusnet (but the engineer had not arrived yet) I phoned up to ask how to access a hotspot, and a lady in one of the Indian call centres gave me a string of numbers to use as a username/password (eg 10563482 cgnywtbe).  Suffice it to say this made no sense, nor did it work.
So exactly what is the correct process?

  • I like Firefox but I also like my friends in POGO & I can't talk with right now because of Firefox. I don't want to uninstall Firefox but I don't want to lose my friends . HOW soon are YOU going to remedy the problem? Or do WE ALL uninstall Firefox?

Pogo suggests we re-install the prior version of Firefox.

See if the 3.6.15 update fixes that Pogo problem.
Use '''Help > Check for Updates''' to manually trigger an update query, then install the update.

  • How often are you using the Internet on the iPhone?

I was wondering how often you guys are using the Internet on the iPhone?
Do you guys enjoy using the the Internet on it?
Also, do you like the keyboard on it?
Just letting you know that I am typing this on my iPhone!!
    Sam

I flew from PDX to DAB today browsing the internet both via wi fi (fast) and Edge (slow, but usable) at various airports and other locations. This browser is the best! I do not have to take a laptop with me anymore. The re size feature is the key, all phone browsers will have this in the future.
Its been years since I was excited about anything in the tech world (and I own a Software company) but I gotta hand it to Apple they really did a job with the iPhone.

  • How old are you?

Hello I would like to know how old people who use the forum are and also if you use java for your job or if you are student.
I will start and say I am 29 years old and use java for my job as programer.

Hello I would like to know how old people use this
forum are and also if you use java for your job or if
you are student.I would guess that old people use it the same way the younger people do. Maybe at a different resolution though?
I don't drink coffee so my use of java is rather slim at work or school.

  • How old are you people?

I haven't posted a question for a while, so I figured it was about time. For starters, I'm only 19. I'm on my first programing job and a freshman in college. I was wondering how old the rest of you were. I keep reading posts about people that wrote code when I was still young enough to think I was going to be a proffesional baseball player. That was about second grade by the way. Anyway, just curious.

man, don't you just hate posting a new topic and than realizing that someone else asked the same question earlier that day? http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=306579&start=0&range=15&hilite=false&q=

Total s*** lack of customer service - thanks for nothing o2, thats mee off to someone else now since contract has already ended.

Unfortunately O2 do not have a customer facing email address.
Customer service via phone hours are :

    Sunday 0800 - 18:00
Live Chat can sometimes take a while to initialise and an agent would come online when one is available.
I believe another way of adding a Bolt on is via a text.
    "Adding Bolt Ons by text:
    Basics – 100MB data, £3 a month. Text BASICS to 21300
    All Rounder – 500MB data, £6 a month. Text ROUNDER to 21300
    Works – 1GB data, £10 a month. Text WORKS to 21300"
I've checked my own Myo2 and it appears to be working fine. It may have been a glitch on yours.

  • When and how often are you supposed to charge MBP 2011?

I know i'm charging it too much, according to the charge cycles... so, does it matter what percentage you start charging at?

  • Are you happy?

thinking of upgrading my macbook to a macbook pro. Have someone who would like to purchase my macbook now. I know a new model will be coming out beginning of next year, but there will always be a newer model. How Happy are you? I have read that wireless is not as good in the pro's as the macbooks. I do a lot of photoshop and traveling so i need wireless.
would appreciate any comments. Thank you.

No dents in my MPB yet, bandit.
As I've said elsewhere, my old alu PB12, however, survived several years of being bounced around in 4 wheel drive vehicles in the Australian outback, and being thrown from the vehicle shown in the following picture, found on the ground under the vehicle, and still kept on keeping on without problems.
The 15 may not be quite as robust as the PB12 (simply because it is a little larger), but I'd say I'm pretty impressed with the general strength of the alu Apple notebooks after that one!
I'd have to say that I was even happier that I, and the two front seat occupants, were both still functioning normally after that little episode! (The vehicle, by the way, was a new Nissan Patrol 4WD before the event. Unlike the PB12, and us, it was no longer useable! )
As far as MB versus MBP "toughness" goes, the MBP is much less scratch prone than the MB in our experience. The MB is less "dentable", perhaps, but I'm not sure it is really any "tougher" in any serious "event".
    Cheers

  • Are you open to SAAS Network management and monitoring?

How comfortable are you with the idea of managing your network switches/routers/Wireless AP/DNS/DHCP from outside your network?
What happens when your Internet connection fails?
Even with encryption (VPN/SSH Tunnel/SSL), can it ever truly be safe?
What environments would this be ideal for?

  • How often can you use o2 refresh?

I'm just over a year into a 2 year contract and was considering using o2 refresh to get a better phone, but what if I wanted to this again in a years time? How often are you allowed to do it? Thanks

If this is your first O2 refresh, and you are already with O2 on a standard 24 months contract (ie CPW) you also get 25% on the current contract cancellation fee.If you log in to my O2, and choose upgrade, it will tell you how much you have to pay
