How hard to switch out a motherboard?

My beloved, trustworthy, amazing Powerbook Ti just died on me after five years of uncomparable service. I only had to purchase one replacement battery, the screen was still perfection, and so on... (Can you tell I'm in complete mourning?) It has been an unbelievable work horse!
I thought initially it was only the backup internal battery after my power cord broke off where it connects at the computer. However, I replaced the power cord and internal battery and no luck. I spent $99 to have it looked at and they have told me that it needs a completely new motherboard due to the power supply issues.
Does this ring true? How costly and difficult is this to replace? Is it a do it yourself kind of job (I'm fairly capable.) I would lovingly invest the time and effort if I thought I could revive my baby.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Now knowing what the issues are, yes, IMO it does seem likely that what the techs told you is true.
I asked which Ti you have because each revision has a different architecture (there are eight different versions of TiBooks), especially the original one, which I now know is the one you own.
Did the issue start immediately after you broke your power cord off (so you know that's the cause of the issue)? If so, you may want to take a look inside and see if there's a severed connection you might be able to repair. If you're dead in the water and considering a new LB anyway, nothing really to hurt (just be especially careful of the display cables).

  • SCSI HARD DRIVE switch out QUESTION

I have a MAC G4 sawtooth and am going to switch out the SCSI hard drive, to a higher GB (from 23 to 147). Does anyone remember how many pins (68 or 80) does the G4 connector take? Sorry, it's been a while since I switched out hard drives.
    G4B SAWTOOTH   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If it's an OEM installation, your G4 has a 68-pin SCSI drive, and not an 80-pin SCA (SCSI) drive. If you purchased it secondhand, it could have either. Why don't you install a Parallel ATA (ATA-133) or Serial ATA (SATA-150) hard drive with the corresponding PCI controller card? You can get a lot more storage capacity for your money, than you can by going with an expensive SCSI drive. Check the weekly sale prices at your local electronics, computer, or office supply stores for bargains on hard drives. For a Mac-compatible PCI controller card, you'll probably have to purchase one from a dealer online. The lowest price for an ATA-133 controller card is consistently found here.

  • How do I switch out of full screen in OS 10.10

I am really frustrated by some of the features in OS 10.10.  When I click on the green button in the top left of a window, the window fills the screen.  I can't bring up the doc and I lose my menu bar unless I mouse to the top of the screen.  Clicking the green button used to just fill the screen with the window but I could still see the menu bar and access the doc.  How do I get out of full screen mode (I can't see any button to click that will do that) so that I can see my menu bar all the time and access my dock.  Is there a way to turn off this new green button feature and go back to the old way?

  • I am going from an Ipod classic to a 6th generation ipod nano .  The full library will not fit on the nano.  How do i switch out music on the nano?

I went from an i pod classic to a nano.  My music library is larger than what synced on my nano.  I want to switch to some different music in my library, how do I do this?

So is mine...by about 150GB, LOL (I've been around awhile, and have LOTS of music). Anyway, how I do it is either delete/uncheck stuff in iTunes (Not efficient as you have to select each, individual song that you want to delete/uncheck. You can't just delete/uncheck an entire album. Hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple entries) or delete things from the iTunes Music folder.
If you delete them in iTunes, you have the option of keeping the files or sending them to the Trash (Mac speak for the Recycle Bin; don't do this unless you have backup copies. I'm being overly cautious, but never hurts to have backups). Then you'd have to sync your Music manually or all the songs in your Library may try and add themselves back onto your iPod. Although, if you just uncheck them (haven't tried it) that may not be a problem.
The Music folder may be much quicker - I haven't tried this as it didn't occur to me until after I deleted stuff in iTunes. It's located in My Documents > My Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music - I think that's right but don't quote me as my PC is on its way out the door to a charity. I'm on a Mac, now. Check iTunes for the location, to be sure. Anyway, make a copy of the Music folder and put it somewhere safe (pretty much, anywhere else on your PC). Then, open the Music folder, in the iTunes Media folder, and delete away. This is also not uber efficient, but it's workable as long as you have a backup.
Saving your Music folder may not be necessary as iTunes now has the option of retrieving everything you've ever purchased (click on Purchased, in the left column, click on Download Previous Purchase at the lower, right and then click on the Music tab). This didn't used to be an option; used to be, you had to repurchase any Music you lost in iTunes and from your computer.
As soon as you're down to a decent level in iTunes, start adding more music and then sync your iPod. Not sure if you can drag and drop into iTunes on a PC (you can on a Mac), but you could try that. I forget exactly as I haven't touched my PC in over 6 months...which is why it's on its way out the door. After I install a new hard drive (I have one lying around), reinstall basic Windows then bake my old hard drive before putting it in the trash. LOL
I may not be quite correct about everything I've told you as all my music is stored on/copied to an external drive (even stuff I purchase through iTunes), so I just toss things in the trash as I see fit, drag stuff out, off my external drive, drop them into iTunes and sync. Plus, I'm just a skosh rusty on a PC.
If I haven't gotten everything quite right, someone will probably be along and give you better/more/more concise info.

  • How can I switch out graphics in different areas of a movie?

I have a project that I'm working on for a flooring company. They want a Flash movie that allows the user to change the look (product and color) of different areas of the floor.
I have a menu on the left side that designates the three different areas of the floor. I have the two products along with color swatches along the top. I currently have each of the three areas as separate movies that load into a main movie.
These three area movies each contain the color swatches on the top as buttons to change the color of that area using "On Release > Go To Frame Label" actions that displays each of the different colors. These movies each load on a different level based on the selection of the left side menu.
I want the user to be able to go to each of the three areas and change the product/color attributes without losing what they had already done. For instance, if they choose PRODUCT A in RED for AREA 1, then they want to change the product/color on AREA 2, I still want the movie to display PRODUCT A in RED for AREA 1, etc.
The problem I run into is that when you go back and forth between the three areas, the navigation only controls what movie is on the top level and doesn't allow the user to go back to a previous area and change the product/color attribute.
Keep in mind I'm a designer, not a developer. My knowledge of Actionscript is very superficial so don't throw a bunch of "geek speak" at me ;-)

It is not clear how you have the design arranged timeline-wise, but what you should do is get away from using the timeline as much as using movieclips.  Have each area as a different movieclip that you control with the selection buttons.  That way, changing one movieclip's current frame will not disturb another's.

  • How do you switch out PMS colors in CS5

I am trying to swap out PMS colors in a complicated Illustrator file--my client just changed all the colors. I remember being able to double click the color swatch and the list of Pantone colors would come up--and you could just select a new one--maybe I'm wrong and confusing it with InDesign? But when I double-click on the PMS swatch--the PMS name/spot color is greyed out--and I get a choice of "Book Color", but no listing of colors. I read that I can hold down option and move the new swatch over the one I want it to replace...It works, but changes the color to process, which I don't want.
    Thank you for your help!

I may have answered my own question...selecting the color you want and the shift-selecting the other color, choosing merge. Seems like a round-about way, so I'm open if I'm missing something easier. Thanks

Are you still running OS X 10.6.8 as your profile indicates?
If yes, you would open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilties > AirPort Utility, select the AirPort and click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon at the top of the screen, then click the Internet Connection tab
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to "Share a Public IP address"
Click Update to save the changes and allow 30 seconds for the AirPort to restart.
If you are running Lion 10.7.x or Mountain Lion 10.8, then the instructions provided by Nachos Libres would be right on the money.

  • How hard to switch hard drives

Anyone with experience swapping out drives in their MacMini?

Yes - there is a lot of information out there - including online video and photo guides:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/mac_mini_2009_hd/
    http://www.applefritter.com/Mac_Mini_Take_Apart_Guide
It's much easier for the 2009/earlier minis with the white plastic top, rather than the latest all-in-one 2010 model.  Which do you have?
The "only" difficult part is getting the cover off in the first place.  Make sure you run your newly modified mini with the top OFF for a few days to ensure all is well before replacing it.  This saves having to get the top off again!  (A common error is to forget to replace the small black fan temperature sensor cable, which means the fan runs at full speed when you start it up again.)

    Hello there, tonjay82.
There are some great sources of information in the following article that might help you in resolving the issue at hand:
    iOS: Understanding Restrictions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4213
Particularly of note is the following:
You can enable and adjust Restrictions, or Parental Controls, on your device to prevent access to specific features or content on the device. Locate these settings by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
            and
    Additional Information
If your iOS device is missing a particular application or if a certain feature is not available, ensure that Restrictions are not enabled. Symptoms can include:
App missing from the Home screen (Safari, Camera, or YouTube for example)
Feature or service unavailable (Siri, Location Services, and so on)
Setting missing or grayed out (such as Mail, Contacts, and Calendar; iCloud; Twitter; FaceTime)
Important: Restrictions can also be enabled or enforced using a profile (typically installed when using the device for business or education purposes). You can check for installed profiles in Settings > General > Profiles.
Thank you for reaching out to us at Apple Communities on this issue.

Whenever I switch from My Music to iTunes Store and then back to My Music, it sends me to the top of My Music instead of where I was when I switched.  How can I get it to return to where I was when I switch out of and back into My Music instead of going back to the top?

Firefox will reload a page and reposition at the top if the copy in the cache has expired. However, that shouldn't happen right away.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Someone keeps putting my iPhone into lost mode in my other cloud account, and I keep getting out. How do I switch the cloud account to this one, so they won't be able to do it again

Well, for the last week someones been putting my iPhone constantly in lost mode using my apple account and I keep getting out because I know my own password. I want to change the password but two other people I know use it, (who definetly wouldn't do this), someone else probably got ahold of the account and is spamming the phones into lost mode. I'm not in lost mode currently by the way. This repetition is really a hassle for me because I'm not always connected to the internet to get out of the lost mode, a few days ago, I went on a 12 hour flight and both my apple devices were probably put into the lost mode and I wasn't able to use my iPhone or iPad to do work and entertainment purposes. I was literally sitting there for 12 hours! So now that you sat through my problem, which I thank you for greatly, how do I switch apple/cloud accounts on my devices so this won't happen again? I hope you can give my solution, if there is one out there, and thank you in advance for atleast trying to solve my problem.

The only way this can happen is with access to your id and password
