How hot will damage your computer hardware?

I am using Macbook pro with retina display,15 inch, 2.7 intel CPU...
My CPU sometime goes up to 85C, i really want to know what temp will damage the CPU and GPU.
And if i increase the rpm of the fans will this damage the fans too?

Theoretically, a MBP will not be damaged from heat due to the fact that it is designed to shut down when the heat increases to the point where it could be damaged.  Thermal shut down occurs at about 105 c+ so the 85 c reading is well within that limit.
Temperatures reflect the activity that is requiring CPU/GPU resources.  Text editing will result in low temperatures where as Skype and video will drive the temperature up.
By increasing the fan speeds, you will by definition shorten the life of the fans.  This is the case with all mechanical devices.  By how much is hard to say.
As a precautionary measure, you might do a SMC reset:

  • Bootcamp Stops on "setup is inspecting your computer hardware configuration"

Just bought a new iMac for my business computer and can't get Windows XP SP2 to load. It stops on "setup is inspecting your computer hardware configuration". I am running BootCamp 3.0.4. It has the 2.5 Ghz i5 processor. I have read other support document say I need Windows 7. I have the same setup on MacBook Pro and it worked fine. I can't use Windows 7. I have programs that require Windows XP. HELP. Please no responses telling me to use Windows 7. I can't!

the 2011s are Sandy Bridge based and your OEM DVD for OS X doesn't have driver support from Apple.
As for windows 7 and legacy apps.... Windows 7 is pretty good at anything other than 16-bit apps, and even has XP mode - or you can try running XP in a VM as a guest OS in Mac OS X.
Your other MBP is 2010 model, no?
I assume Apple would have to develop new driver support and there are a lot of changes in the 2011 MBP. Apple isn't known for backward compatibility. Not when you have Intel graphics, TB, new processor family and SATA3 in there.

  • When going to add the free download Firefox to my Laptop it comes up when I am about to download this is an insecure site and can damage your computer. Please advise

I have purchased a Laptop running windows 7 and deceided to install Mozilla Firefox when I went into Download the Free version which is Windows (6.0.1, English (US) an warning comes up at the bottom
Do you want to run or save Firefox Setup 6.0.10exe (13.3 MB) from mozilla.snt.utwente.nl?
Then a warning sign comes up and says This type of file could harm your computer. Please can you advise as I also have this on my Desktop

That new Firefox version should be 6.0.1 not 6.0.10.
That is most likely being caused by a recently discovered problem where SSL security certificates from an issuer in the Netherlands were found to be invalid. Firefox (and other browser developers) is currently taking measures to protect its users against the fraudulent certificates (your link mozilla.snt.utwente.nl is located in the Netherlands). Try your download again and hopefully you will be directed to one of the other download mirrors around the planet.

You can also download the full installer, SAVE the download to your Desktop, then close Firefox and run the installer if you wish:

  • Can Bass damage your computer?

Hello, I have a macbook pro with a pair of Bose Companion 3 series 2 computer speakers. The bass module is on the floor about 3 feet away from the laptop. I was wondering if the bass vibrations could damage my computer especially the hard drive since while playing music, i can feel the mac slightly vibrating. Any precautions or sugestions that i should take? Thanks.

I would not worry about it.
However, I have noted a link to a very interesting read on the subject for you to check out.

  • How do you authorize your computer with the new itunes version?

Just got a MacBook Pro. I have songs that were previously purchased on my iphone that I could not download because it said my computer was not authorized. Looked at my authorizations and it said 3 computers were authorized but not this one. I deauthorized all of them and now I do not know how to authorize this computer. All of the support is outdated because itunes has a new version and there are no menus for store or advanced settings.

    Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
(In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
    See Here for full details...

  • HOW DO YOU ERASE YOUR COMPUTER COMPLETELY

    hi,
im wondering if anyone has answers to erase my computer completely. I am currently using Mac OSX Panther and want to erase everything in order to install the updated Tiger.

There is no need to erase the hard drive just to install Tiger.
However, if that is what you want to do... First back up all of your important files. Then boot off the Tiger disc, start the installer, and select the option to 'erase and install'.

  • Ipod updater 6-28 will cause your computer and itunes not to recognize Nano

Updated my new nano, and wha-la, it did not work. Tried the 5 useless R's. What type of updater is this?!! So beta.
THe following worked and I got the information from a posting by Casper.
Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
    Under storage, select disk management
Find the iPod volume and right-click on it
    Select format
Set the format to FAT32, and leave all the other settings on the default
Make sure "quick format" is not selected
    Start the format.
When the format completes, you should be able to restore with the iPod updater of your choice.
      Windows XP

You do have to be patient with the above procedure, could also try, using hp usb tool do a search on the forum for that method, there is also a dos method though not tryed it, though be careful here you dont want to format the wrong thing. Here are the instructions though They are alittle vague
    1) Put the nano into disk mode
    2) Connect the nano to the computer
    3) start > run > cmd to get to DOS
    4) Once in DOCs, I typed format <drive name>
    5) As stated above, I used FAT32.
    6) Rebooted computer.
    7) Run the updater. The nano was recognizable now
    8) Restore nano using the updater. This put 1.2 on there successfully.
    9) Ran iTunes, and synched all my music again

  • How do you reset your computer's password?

For the past 8 months or so my friend has never done any of the apple updates on his Macbook.
Why? Because he has *forgotten his password* – the one you need to install any applications onto the computer.
At first it didn’t bother him but now it’s been going on for so long he has missed out on all the updates for iTunes, QuickTime and just general maintenance of the laptop.

  • When I clicked to download a message say "Firefox will damage your files",,,why did it say that?

It says THIS TYPE OF FILE CAN HARM YOUR COMPUTER

My guess it that whenever you try to download a software installer, Internet Explorer gives you that warning so you know it is a program and not just an ordinary file. As far as I know, Microsoft isn't telling you not to install Firefox. ;-)
Of course, make sure you are installing from the official site: http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/fx/
Mozilla uses multiple download sites to serve the actual installer file. If IE doesn't like the first one, you can cancel, go back, and try again and most likely get a different one.
