Are you saying that you have a CD of stock music that you have a license for or custom music that was written for your project and was delivered to you on a CD? And that when you put that CD in your machine that iTunes started automatically and imported the music to your library and now you need to know how to get it out?
Or did you buy this music from the iTunes store?

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. If the music is embedded in the app and not available separately, then you can't.

You must be trying to sync it with a different computer than the one it used last. No, there is no other way to do this.
The iPhone may be synced to one and only one computer at any given time. If you choose to sync it to another, you can do that as often as you wish, but its content is erased first.

I got a new Ipad today and I was using itunes to manage the content and sync the apps (I also have an ipod and an iphone) and I was getting an error message when using the search. All of a suden I was going to sync the ipad and I get the message saying that the library from itunes is empty!!!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions

I thought that was for importing?
It's not just for importing. The import setting controls the format available for the convert option. Once converted, move the MP3 files as needed; their location can be found by right-clicking them.

I cannot use the back up function as have been advised that therer are bugs in it and restoring it back to my phone will bring the bugs with it and phone will be back to apple again as will start playing up again. But I need the music. Whn I plug it in laptop and go to itunes icon it gives me 2 options: Set up as new iphone? OR Restore from backup.
