How I can measure frequency of TTL signal without external clock?

Hello,
I want to measure frequency of TTL signal using PXI-6254 or PXI-6713, without using external clock.
Frequency will be up to 100kHz. How I can use internal counter of 20MHz or 80MHz?

Hi Yuta K,
You have not stated what software you want to use for this measurement, but in case you're using LabVIEW, please go to the Example Finder (in LabVIEW go to "Help >> Find Examples").
In the Example Finder, you make sure the "Browse" tab is stil selected, and than you go to:
Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Counter Measurements >> Digital Frequency
Here you will find some good examples of measuring a digital frequency with 1 or 2 onboard counters.
If you need additional information, please let us know!
Best regards,
Peter S

  • How do you measure frequency using the onboard counter on PCMCIA 6024-E

I am using LABView 6.1 and NI-DAQ 7.2 with a SCXI-1000 chassis and a PCMCIA 6024-E on a laptop. I need to measure a frequency of about 3KHz and would like to do that using an 1180 direct through connector.
Firstly, should I see this 1180 in MAX like any other module?
And secondly, how do I use this 6024-E card to measure frequency? Which pins are supposed to be used on it to measure, and will I see the counter run in the test window in MAX according to the frequency measured?
I know NI also have a frequency module for the SCXI chassis. So lastly, will it be better to use that, rather than measure directly off the 6024-E?
Any help, advise or comments will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hello,
I think I can help out with some of your questions. First, the 1180 module wont show up in MAX since it is really just a feedthrough cable which allows you access to your unused signals from the DAQ card.
You definitely can measure frequency using your 6024E. An example installs with NI-DAQ 7.2 which shows how to accomplish this. To access this example go to the LabVIEW start up screen and hit the Find Example button. When the Example Finder opens up browse to the following location: Hardware Input and Output -> DAQ -> Counters -> DAQ-STC -> Measure Frequency (DAQ-STC).vi
This example measures frequency and has a connection diagram on the front panel. The documentation for the example can be accessed by going to File -> VI properties -> Document
ation, after you have opened the VI.
You are correct that we offer a frequency input module for SCXI (SCXI-1126). This module would be useful if your input voltages are non-TTL, or if you need to measure more than one channel of frequency signals. This module has an input range of +/- 250Vrms and 8 input channels.
I hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything I can help with or clarify.

GSX, if you're referring to Apple's service by that name, is available only to employees of Apple-authorized service providers or self-servicing accounts. Unless you are employed by such an organization, you cannot access GSX. If you are employed by such an organization, they should set you up and give you the appropriate login information.
If you are interested in becoming a certified Apple hardware technician, you can find information here:
    http://training.apple.com/certification/acmt
Please note, though, that certification does not in and of itself give you access to any of the Apple resouces for support organizations; diagnostic tools, parts ordering, etc. You again must be employed by an authorized Apple support provider before you can gain such access.
I have no idea what "knowlaged" might be.

I made an album just now. I went back to delete the pics from my camera roll but my only option is to "delete everywhere." I want to leave them in the new album I made..  How i can delete them from camera roll without deleting from other Album i made

The way that I understand that it works, is that the photos are not copied into the new albums, instead it just points to the photos - the number of photos on the iPad in Settings > General > About doesn't increase when you create new album so I assume from that that it isn't copying the photo, just pointing to it. So if you delete the photo from the camera roll you will therefore also be deleting all the pointers to it

  • Measure Frequency of Digital Signal from DAQ-Board

I'm using a National Instruments DAQ board and I need to measure the
frequency of a digital signal from my data acquisition board.
I know the measure frequency.vi (In diagram - data acquisition -
counter), but i don´t understand yours implementation mainly in input
"counter". Because i don't understand the relationship of board channel (for
signal acquiring ) and the measure frequency.vi.
    Thanks in advance,
    [email protected]

    Hi,
Attached is a vi which models your signal, and provides a way to measure the average frequency over a window of time. It converts the signal to a sequence of periods. I usually start with this approach because you can save the data in a much more compact form if your sampling rate is high. Obviously over a specified period of time, if there are no zero crossings the frequency is zero, so I was a little incoherent before. The real issue is the latency caused by averaging. Your frequency measurement is most accurate half your window size before the current time, so smaller windows give you more up to date measurements, but also more noisy. If you need the most up to date measurement, then you have to use the time since the last crossing which is the case where the frequency never goes to zero. That's probably not a realistic situation. If you needed less latency, you could use a prediction algorithm.
Also, there are a number of signal measuring and processing vi's that LV gives you, for instance pulse measurements that could be used to partially implement this or other approaches, but I normally steer clear of them unless they fit exactly due to having to convert back and forth to the waveform data type.
    Have fun!

  • How do i measure frequency?

lets say theres this signal in volts. if you plot the signal it forms a sine graph. is there any way to use labview to determine the frequency of the signal? i've tried to use the "measure frequency vi" but my device is connected to a virtual channel, and i dont think that VI supports that...

    Hi Polly,
There are several ways to measure frequency in LabVIEW. You can measure the frequency of a pulse train using DAQ hardware (counters). You can also just take a buffer of data and simply use LabVIEW functions to read the frequency of the buffer. An example function would be Extract Single Tone Information.vi. There are many other functions as well. Hope that helps.

  • Can I plug a TTL signal into the mic on my sound card?

Basically I want to trigger some LV code using an incoming 0-5 volt TTL signal.
And I was wondering if I could plug that TTL signal into my mic input and read the signal with the LabVIEW sound VIs.
But I'm unsure if I'll just end up frying my sound card.
I know I could buy a cheap NI USB DAQ board for $99 ... but I just want to get this done asap, and thought the sound card idea might work.
    Any ideas?

A sound card is AC coupled. And has limited  bandwidth. So I will say this is a far from optimal solution. What are you trying to do?
Sound cards are most often made for line-in signals levels. That is +/-1 volt. But this may vary from vendor to vendor.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • How I can upgrade from Office2010SP1 to Office2010SP2 without MSO Cache?

    hello,
I am planning to upgrade Office2010 SP2, however, clients do not have MSO Cache of Office2010.
    Enviroment; Windows7 SP1, Office 2010 SP1/ clients - 1000over
    I tried below;
    * download full package of SP2 and installed  using shutdown script - failed
    * copy and placed MSO Cache files - failed
    * WSUS deplyment - failed
We have over 1000 clients, so it is not possible to re-install Office2010.
Please tell me how we can upgrade it.

For how to deploy software updates using the Updates folder, you can refer to this blog post:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2011/05/05/using-the-updates-folder-to-deploy-software-updates-with-an-office-2010-installation.aspx
Have you fully updated before installing SP2? What's the version number of your existing Office installation?
We do have some cases that even we get the MSOCache files back using installation media, it may sometimes not work with Office 2010 SP2:

  • How do I use a quadrature encoder as an external clock (PCI 6229)

Hello, ( a similar post has been placed on DAQ forum apologies as I did not know best place)
I have a PCI 6229 M Series data acquisition card. I want to use a quadrature encoder to be the external clock driving the acquisition of a number of signals. I have set up reading 24 signals each time a clock pulse is received using the DAQ assistant and set my external clock to pin pfi8 (I think) this is then connected to an encoder output. This works well enough until the encoder is run too fast when it appears I am either missing pulses or getting bounce.
How can I set up to clock using a quadrature encoder? I have seen a number of questions on this forum regarding quadrature encoders and reverse counting but not on using them as an external clock.
Basically I want to have the stability and "bounceless" nature of using two outputs from a quadrature encoder whilst still using an external clock. Is this just a case of configuring controls to certain pfi's? If so how is it done?
Any help or pointers would be helpful. So far I have managed very nicely by simply using the DAQ assistant and the interface it has would suggest that if configured for a certain pfi pin I could actually still use it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kevin

    Hi,
Well I've had alook into this for you and I'm not quite sure I understand what you are looking for.
Is it possible for you to phone back in to support?
The reason you are seeing bounce at high speeds, or indeed loss of points, is due to the sampling rate that you have set up.
What you will find is that the trigger will start an aquisition of a number of points at a certain rate.  If your sampling rate is too low then you will not finish that sample batch before the next set of samples is recorded.
It is possible to use an external clock into a trigger or digital line, however this will limit the number of samples you can take to the speed of your encoder.
If you increase your sampling rates, and then configure a start trigger from a single input from the encoder you will be able to record a number of samples after a rising/falling edge.  (Set the clock as an internal clock)
    Hope this helps

  • How can I use a TTL signal at my PFI to start a VI

    Hello,
I am writing a VI to controll a motor with Digital Output, this is working. But this Vi has to start after the first (second, third or fourth) TTl pulse. How can I do that? I see some trigger options by AI and AO Vi's. But these Vi's are for different purposes.
Is there a simple way to "receive a pulse and than start a VI?
    Thank you.

    Hi wilco,
If you don't mind a slight delay on the order of a couple ms then you could simply poll that bit in software and start your sub-block when that line becomes true.
If you require more precise timing, you could use a counter and configure an interrupt to fire on the output of the counter. You would need to setup the counter for pulse generation and then configure the "pulse spec 1" register with the number of pulses you want to wait before you output (will have to be more than 1 on a counter though). DAQ Occurrence 4 will be the one you want to configure an interrupt for rising edge of a counter output. The LabVIEW help file describes these occurrences and you should also be able to find some examples using occurrences in the shipping examples.
None of them use event 4 but you can get the basic programming concept by looking at the examples.
Anyway, hope that helps. Have a good day.

  • Can I configure a voltage divider on a SCXI-1100 card in order to read a 24V DC signal without external circuitry?

I would like to know if I can configure a voltage divider without having to wire external circuitry. I know that there are pads for a filter capacitor and current to voltage resistor on the SCXI-1100. COuld these pads be used to solder in a precision resistor to serve as a voltage divider? The voltage I am trying to measure is a 24V DC signal."

    Hello;
The pads you can see on the 1100 are pretty much bread boards that you can use to build your own circuitry on.
You can build a voltage divisor on that space, just make sure to follow the current specs of the SCXI module.
