How i fixed my Airport ** dodgy connection**Airdisks**

Since the upgrade to leopard i was plagued with connection issues : dropping, slow, no reconnect after sleep and plenty more.
Also my airdisks would not connect after sleep and a restart was the only way to sort it.
In the end i took the AEBS firmware back to 7.1 by selecting 'Base Station>Upload firmware' in the airport utility.
With this done i also ran the patch for VMware Fusion
http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/811177-4082/vmnet_fix .zip
EVERYTHING IS NOW PERFECT!!!! Weeks of frustration is at an end!!! Whoo Hoo!

If you lose after sleep, that often means that the default network it is trying to connect to is not setup in the network preferences.
If you go to:
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network -> change Network Status to Airport, and By default Join Preferred networks, and delete all the networks, and only add the network with the correct username and password for your network, usually that will fix the network so that it only goes to that network after it wakes from sleep. Sometimes if the network settings become corrupted, it is best to clear the preferred networks, and start fresh.

  • Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.

Fix for Airport Wireless Connection Problem stating Self-Assigned IP and not wanting to connect in Lion OSX.
Bought my girlfriend the newest Macbook Pro 13" and began experiencing problems with my wifi the moment we got home. Her Macbook would not connect to our home Wi-Fi while my old Macbook Late 2008 running Snow Leopard connected without a problem. Airport would say that it had a Self-Assigned IP address (168.x.x.x). Did not realize it was a Lion problem until after using her Macbook Pro and becoming jealous of the new OSX, I upgraded. Soon after I was unable to go online. Luckily I had my iPad 2 and I began to scoure the net for help. Ran into allot of suggestions but it was not until I tried the following all together was I able to share the good new, from my Macbook. Hope this works:
First go to Preferences > Network and click on the cog next to the + and - on the sidebar and click Set Service Order
         - Move Wi-Fi to the top and click ok.
         - Set location to Automatic
         - Click Apply
         - Click Advanced
         - Click the "-" on the selected Wi-Fi router you wish to connect to
         - Click Apply
         - Click Lock to Prevent Further Changes
Go to your Mac's harddrive, (Macintosh)
         - Go to Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >
         - Delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" file
    Turn off your computer
         - push and hold Option+Command+R+P
         - turn on computer
         - when the grey screen turns on you will hear the OS X "ON" sound (for lack of a proper term) and it will momentarily restart.
         - you will once again hear the "ON" sound, let go of all keys.
         - this resets your PRAM
Go to Preferences > Network > Advanced > + sign
         - click Choose a Network
         - Select your network and enter password
Viola!!! I tried this on my Macbook Late 2008 and my girlfriends new Macbook Pro 2010

No you are clearly mistaken. The Self-Assigned IP address problem exists on many Macbook Pro models, including the current model, which I mentioned as being the original computer with the problem. While my 2008 Macbook is older it was working perfectly on Snow Leopard and didn't suffer issues until switching to Lion. So clearly the problem exists on the operating system and not so much the hardware.
I called Apple Support  and they had no fix for the problem and told me that this would hopefully be addressed in a subsequent update. It wasn't until I came accross the answer after trying many different methods that I got both of the Macbooks to connect to my router. Otherwise I wouldn't or could not have been surfing the internet for the last 4 months.
    Cheers.

  • How can I get airport to connect automatically to wireless network?

I temporarily switched from a DSL internet provider to a cable provider, and then back to my old DSL Internet provider. My g5 iMac computer connects to the network through a wireless Belkin router.
Since I switched Internet providers, every time I turn on my computer, it no longer automatically connects into the wireless network. Instead, to connect I now have to manually select the network.
I'd really appreciate tips on automating this step. My kids use this computer and due to parental restrictions, they do not have rights to connect to the network.

    Hi there,
Strictly speaking changing how the internet is coming into the wireless router should not affect the wireless and how machines connect to it, but however to get you out of a hole I would say create a new Location for your home and start again.
Basically,Disable your wireless first, then in your network settings there is a drop down box at the top of the panel where you can change and create new locations. Create a new one, then select it and click Apply. Now enable your airport and connect to the wireless, once that is done you should be good to go.
    Hope that helps,

  • Is there a fix for Airport No Connect Bug post 10.5.8 for 2009 Macbooks???

My Airport stopped working after 10.5.8 update.
It won't connect to my wifi even though it can see it,
    kept getting self assigned IP.
The airport fix doesn't work with my machine, possibly because it's too new.
Normal ethernet works fine. I also tried internet sharing on my laptop, as that's how i get my iphone to use wifi at work, that doesn't work either.
    Hardware details below.
    macbook ver 5.1
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB51.0073.B06

After doing a Software Update, AirPort has been having serious connection issues. It cannot find wireless networks where the *Wireless SSID Broadcast is DISABLED*. My iPhone finds the networks perfectly, every time. I am forced to input the network manually every time through "Join Other Network...", even though the network is saved on the Advanced list in Network Preferences.
*Here are the specs of my MacBook Pro:*
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
*The router I am connecting to is...*
    Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router
    Model WRT54GC
    Firmware Version: v1.05.7
    Mode: Mixed
    Wireless Channel: 06
    Security: WPA2 Personal
    Encryption: AES
Everything is pretty much defaulted to the default settings for the router. I have also another Linksys Router that is having the same problems. These used to work before perfectly BEFORE the MacBook 10.5.8 updates...
*Previous Methods in Trying to Resolve Issue:*
-Deleting AirPort connection in Network Preferences and re-adding it
-Deleting the "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" file in /Library/Preferences/etc.
I'm at a loss here... any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How I fixed my Lion Internet Connectivity Problem

I know that there is a 25+ page trail of questions on this.  I think I looked at every one but nothing worked.  I called apple care.  I got help fast.  We tried about 30 min worth of stuff.  They finally said bring it to a genius bar.   I did not want to go there.  So I kept playing with it.  But first my problem:
I have 2 iphones, an ipad, and 2 macbook pros connected to an airport express.   All working very happily together.  Then I upgraded to lion on the two MBP's.  One of them continues to work.  The other, while it seems to connect to the airport will not connect to the internet on any browser or email software after it wakes from a sleep.  Cycling the wifi on the MBP fixes it till it goes to sleep.
So I was beating my brains over this.   Then I thought...hey.... I can see my nieghbors wifi on a linksys router.  It works....I am on....go to sleep...wake...still works.  Hmmmmmm.
So it dawned on me that the problem was something stored in the airport.   I did a factor reset.  Pull the power, depress the reset button, put the power back on, release the reset after 6 secs.   I then used my keychain utility, on the MBP, to eliminate any previous passwords for the router (not sure if that was needed).   I used airport utility to reconfigure the airport.  I used all my old names and passwords so I did not have to change the other devices.
    It WORKED!!!!
I am not sure if this will work with other wireless routers but it might.

I spoke too soon...problem returned after closing laptop for a while.

    Hi Bob
Just a thought for you. It will be interesting to see if it works. I have an MBP which upgraded fine. My iMac 27 initially showed the wake from sleep problem. Both go through the same router so that should not be the problem - logically. All I have done with the iMac was to repair permissions - probably three times and to re-start after. The iMac is now fine - apart from a couple of other unrelated problems, which again, did not appear with the MBP.
Personally, if I have to start doing things in Terminal it is not my problem - I spent too long with DOS and Edlin to go back to that!
    Cheers
    TY

  • How to share an airport internet connection with XP thru a crossover cable

Any help appreciated - My iMac is connected to the internet and home network through airport. I would like to connect an XP machine to the iMac through ethernet with a crossover cable. I'd then like to be able to share the iMac's internet and network connection with the XP and file share between computers.
How should I configure the machines? I can get them to share files (with a manual IP address) but even though "Internet Sharing" is clicked on the iMac the XP does not connect to the internet.
    iMac is running 10.5.6
    thanks for any help!

Yes, I do have "internet sharing" turned on. It is set to share the connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet. But there is no internet on the PC. Should they both be set for DHCP? (they are)

  • How I fixed my Airport problem.

I have the 2010 MacBook Pro with the i7 processor in it.
Recently I was having an issue with getting on the wireless network. My other computers were able to get on, even my iphone 4. But my MacBook Pro claimed "Could Not Connect To The Internet", or something of that sort in the top right corner. My Wifi icon had an exclamation mark in it and I was getting pretty frustrated. I thought it was a hardware issue so I did some troubleshooting, I also did software update using the ethernet cord. But no hope. I went to the Apple Store and looked like a complete idiot when they opened up my laptop and *voila* my airport worked and he said in a very nice way that I was crazy. (cool....)
Well, after some hardcore internet searching, we decided to try something.
Our current wifi was set up with a WEP password. My roommate changed the wifi channel on our router along with changing the WEP security to WPA. I turned off my airport, restarted my computer, turning the airport back on and WHAM! Internet was back up.
I hope that this helps someone else in the future. It was quite a painful proccess to go through. But, I'm back up and rolling with no apparent reason to why my airport decided to wig out on me...
OH, something else... I didn't have to change the IPv6 or anything else. I just changed the security settings and that seemed to fixed it.

Turn off IPv6 in your Network > Advanced> TCP/IP settings and reboot.
Check the date and time again to make sure, they are correct.
    Cheek the link I've provided.
I now totally hate Apple's routers, I've suffered for years with one and a lightening strike took it out, so I got a Dual Band High Performance Netgear router and set it up with advanced options for $99, it works like a charm.
With Apple's routers I felt that I had to constantly mess with them to get them to work, there was problems, the Netgear I feel I can just leave it alone.
It think it is because Apple routers have PING turned on, thus it's answering calls and thus more subjected to a hack attempts, when the Netgear has PING turned off by default, so it doesn't acknowledge itself online.

After being off for some time my iphone 3GS has this message.  "Iphone is disabled; connect to itunes."  Itunes requires that the password be entered but I can't get past the initial error message.

You need to put the iPhone into Recovery Mode. Here are the easy steps. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click Restore button of iTunes.
