How i fixed my imovie crashes

I was having problems with imovie crashing when i would do just about anything.
I tried lots of fixes, including deleting prefs, removing QT components, running cron scripts, clearing caches.... nothing worked.
then i tried diskwarrior http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
my directory was damaged and needed to be rebuilt. after doing that imovie is running snappy and hasn't crashed since. I really like the new imovie BTW...
everyone needs to get a copy of diskwarrior.... apple doesn't provide good enuf tools for repairing the directories

Is there a way I can "repair my directories" without buying a $100 program? There has to be a better way to fix this thing.
In addition to a Repair Permissions function, Disk Utility — stored in the Applications > Utilities folder — offers a Disk Repair function.
Although Disk Utility can Verify the startup disk, it can't Repair the startup disk. That requires booting your Mac from some other disk, usually the Mac OS X installation disk that came with your Mac, then running Disk Utility from that disk.
Aside from that, there are certain maintenance tasks Mac OS X automatically does at night on its own. Some are done nightly, some weekly, some less often. For these maintenance tasks to occur the Mac can't be allowed to sleep every night.
If you want to allow your Mac to sleep every night you need to either initiate these maintenance tasks manually or use software that does them for you automatically while the Mac is awake. There are third-party utilities to make it simple and convenient. One is Cocktail, available at versiontracker.com.
DiskWarrior is an excellent disk utility that can be a great help when a disk has problems, especially major problems. Disk Utility is good too, but it never hurts to have more than one good disk utility in your quiver.
