How I fixed my ipod
Hi all like many of you, I've lost hours figuring out the fix for the ipod/updater/itunes6 problems causing song uploads to hang or ipod freezing. I tried almost every trick I found in the web thus far. Heres a log of what happened.
(1) On the day my ipod crashed, I tried a reset and restore. Men, read the manual you have to do this in the correct sequence.
Resetting the ipod (consult ipod manuals on how to reset), I saw the folder icon.
I opened the latest updater 2005-9-23.
Next, I plugged in the ipod (4G) and waited until it was detected.
Then, I clicked restore - the blue bar filled up and my ipod was restored to factory settings wit the latest software version 3.1.
I opened iTunes and did an upload.
My ipod hung after a few songs were uploaded.
I had to unplug the cable which caused iTunes to hang.
So I tried option (2).
(2) I did a reset and restore but this time with the ipod in Disk Mode again in proper sequence.
It restored.
But again, the songs did not upload properly in iTunes.
I moved to option 3.
(3) I unplugged all USB and Firewire cables (following a bogged data theory postulated somewhere in these forums) and did a reset and restore using firewire cable only.
Again, songs did not upload properly.
I repeated this step using the USB 2 cable instead.
Same problem.
I went to option (4).
(4) WARNING follow at your own risk.
I put the ipod on disk mode and plugged in a USB 2 cable.
Next, I opened the ipod icon with Disk Utility.
The ipod has 2 partitions both formatted as Mac OS extended journaled.
I erased the larger volume and reformatted it to Mac OS format without the extended journaled.
I attempted a reset but instead of the folder icon, the crossed eyed sad face appeared.
I did a couple more resets and the apple logo appeared.
I went for a run and dinner.
(5) 4 hours later, I did a reset.
By this time, the ipod had cooled down.
Amazingly, after the reset, the ipod showed the folder icon.
I attempted restoration with the latest update and the blue bar loaded as smooth as silk.
I opened iTunes and did an upload of selected folders.
Presto, it works perfectly.
The ipod is still buggy.
Some songs will skip initially but I can do everything else normally.
The interface looks slightly different but I think it is the latest software update.
I havent tried a second upload yet for fear of a crash.
I wouldve tried an archive and install if option (5) failed.
What resurrected my ipod??
Who knows?
The run and dinner perhaps
Hello Earnest,
Good write up, I have same experience as you, I did manage to solve my iPod by doing the Delete in Partition and followed by an Erase (format). I do not understand why and I could be wrong, delete and reformat the iPod sometime works better than just purely do a Restore.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -

How to fix a ipod touch that is disabled
My Ipod touch says that its disabled and I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone know how to fix it?
If you have a passcode to the screen lock that you've forgotten, restore the iPod from the computer to which the iPod is synced. For information and instructions, see:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the iPod into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

Regards.

Please help a mother that has no idea how to fix a ipod

You do not have to restore to factory settings/new iPod. Restoring from backup does not restore the screen-lock passcode.
Also the article you provided a link troi does not apply to the iPod touch. The article says:
Products Affected
iPod, iPod classic, iPod classic 160GB (Late 2009), iPod mini, iPod nano
Thomas A Reed wrote:

How to fix my ipod tilt?
Can someone please help me?
My iPod Touch 3g (3.1.3) tilt isn't working. I am very very unhappy. I tried to restore it to 3.1.3 again ( I saw other discussions and they said to restore) and restoring to 3.1.3 doesn't work (error 3194). I searched on youtube how to fix error 3194, still doesn't work. I don't want to upgrade to 4.3.3 because it's jailbroken. This is very unfair. Please, Please someone help me. I've been looking for ages to find the correct 100% working answer. Please give me an easy way how to fix my tilt. (Orientation lock for some reason doesn't work on my ipod i dont know why)Does the Voice Memo app work? In that app can you see the needle of the VU meter move with sound level?
Is the mic hole clear? I is the little hole on the backside of the iPod by the camera lens.

How to fix my speakers for my IPOD touch 5?
Why do you think it needs fixing?
If you have sound from headphones but not speaker:
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

Someone please tell me EXACTLY how to fix my iPod
When I go to turn my iPod on, the Apple logo will come up and I will hear a strange clicking sound coming from inside the iPod. A few seconds later, it will show a folder with an exclamation point and then turn off. When I plug the iPod up to my computer, the computer will not recognize it so I cannot restore it. Someone please tell me what is wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.
