You need to first put the phone into Recovery Mode:
1. Plug the usb end of your cable into the computer, do not plug your phone in yet
2. Power down your iPhone
3. Press and hold the Home button on the phone and connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable, the phone should power on and say "connect to itunes". Keep holding the home button till you see this
You phone is now in recovery mode, you can use iTunes to restore it as new by following this:

Ok the error code after 8 hours of downloading said error code 9006. I’m not too good withcomputers and I’m really battling with this. And tell me is it really necessary to download update 4.3.3... If I’m having so much trouble it really makes me deponent to try and try again...I have the iphone 4 16 GB 4.3 (8F190) version. Model MC603SO. Itunes10.2.2.14...
And why does it take 6 – 8 hours?

How do I get iMessage to activate after having used find my iPhone app?

My husband not realizing he was going to wipe my phone decided to play around with the find my iPhone app. Of course it reset and I lost everything. I restored from a backup and cannot get iMessage to activate. I just keep getting a message awaiting activation. I've tried shutting down the phone, turning iMessage on and off, resetting network settings, logging in and out of apple ID. I let it sit for about 10 hours and that didn't work either. Is there something else I need to try? Anything specific to the find my iPhone app? I really don't want to restore without backup. I've already had issues with the 5 and lost my info on 3 separate occasions. Also can't get iCloud backup to work since I've had the 5. Any help greatly appreciated!!

My i-phone wont activate after a software update

I was given a phone in the UK and brought it to Egypt. In order to get it working with an Egyptian sim card it had to be unlocked. I wanted to add some apps but a number would not load saying the os was out of date. So I decided to update it as recommended. Now it has completely restored it back to factor settings which I wasn't expecting and didn't want. It does not recognise the sim card ITunes says there is no sim card in the phone and the phone itself keeps saying it could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. So now the phone is completely stuck and useless. What can I do

If it was not unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to, it was 'hacked' to unlock it.
ONLY the carrier it is lockd to can authorize unlocking it.
If it was hacked to unlock it, then upgraded to 5.1.1, it may very well be a brick now.

The hotness usually indicates a bad battery.
I would try:
- Restore from backup. See:

A long shot but you might try using the phone to send an email to the phone asking the owner to call their mobile phone. If the owner has a computer they may get the email and get in contact with you.
But Roger's suggerstion of turning it over to the police is the best bet.

Question for folks who ordered the Samsung Droid Charge as replacement....
How many got NEW and how many got REFURBISHED phones?
There are some members on this forum who reported getting refurbished
units, sometimes even without batteries and battery doors.
The VZW corporate store that I went to told me that their customers all got
new-in-the-box units within 2 to 3 days after visiting the store.
The store manager assured me the same thing.... but I couldn't decide if I really
wanted a Samsung Droid Charge or the dual-core processor HTC Incredible 2....
so I'm gonna sleep on it for a couple of days. (the HTC can be ordered over
the phone, without requiring a store visit, according to the manager)

If you have Bluetooth turned on, turn it off. If I forget and leave Bluetooth on, it drains my battery about twice as fast as when it is off.
Turn off Background App Refresh in Settings>General
Turn off any location services that you do not need on under Settings>Privacy>Location Services (I have Location Services turned on, but in the Apps list below the button, I have very few turned on - Compass, Maps, Google Earth, Google Maps, Siri, Starbucks, and Weather).
