How I got my rear speakers to work (logitech z 5500 5.1)

Instead of connecting the black cable into the black slot of my speaker system, I put it in the orange slot and the orange plug in the black slot. I did the same to my sound card, black slot in line 3(center/sub) instead of line 2(rear left, rear right) and orange in line 2. I was amazed that this got it to work. I was on the verge on posting some long ass post saying how i tried everything, but i decided to try something stupid and switch a few plugs that I wasnt supposed to switch. I basically got it working by accident. Im pretty happy

When the Toslink to mini-jack digital cable arrives you would set up the 5.1 audio to the system through Audio MIDI Setup; Apps>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup.
From the Audio MIDI Setup Help menu;
Configuring speakers for multichannel output
If you have a multichannel audio output system, you can select the speaker used to play each channel.
You must be using an audio output system that provides more than two channels of audio output.
Before you start, be sure you have connected the audio devices to your computer, turned them on, if necessary, and installed any software required by the manufacturer.
1. Open Audio MIDI Setup and click Audio Devices.
2. Choose the audio output device from the Properties For pop-up menu and click Configure Speakers.
3. If you are using an interleaved device with more than one audio stream, you can choose the audio streams you want to use with your speaker configuration.
4. If the stream you select provides enough channels for the speakers you are configuring, you cannot select additional streams.
5. Choose the type of output you want to set up from the pop-up menu.
6. For each speaker in the configuration, choose a channel from the pop-up menu below the speaker.
7. To test the configuration and speaker, click the speaker.
8. When you're ready, click OK.
If the speaker doesn't make any sound, make sure it is connected to your audio device correctly and the audio output is not muted.

Yes definitely make sure you're not covering the mic, its at the bottom of the phone on the left next to the 30 pin, but if thats not the problem and you're still under warranty then definitely take it back to apple because it's probably a hardware issue and theyll gladly replace or fix it for you.

  • V7.0.0.70 - Rear speakers not working

Having just updated to iTunes version 7.0.0.70, my rear speakers no longer work although they're fine with all other applications, just not iTunes. Even my Creative diagnostics say everything is fine.
I've been into QT and set the audio preferences so that "Sound Output" is:
    Rate - 44.1 kHz
    Size - 24bit
    channels - 5.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs)
...and still nothing. The front and centre ones work fine.
Reinstalled QT...nothing....Did a repair install and got the rear ones working but then had terrible distortion. Decided to trash iTunes and QT and reinstall, and now I'm back with no rear speakers
I'm running XP Pro SP2 (fully patched)
    Anyone any ideas....please.

There seem to be loads of people with this problem, unfortunately there's also a deafening silence from Apple. Maybe their product testers are down the pub, where they clearly were when V7 was being developed. Are Apple the new Microsoft ????
I've gone back to 6.05 and HURRAH !!! all my speakers work again.
Moral of the story here is "if it ain't broke..." and if you must update then carefully reveiw the forums and web before taking the leap into the unknown.

  • G550W rear speakers not working (but were previously)

I have a blue light on the wireless receiver but getting no sound to the rear speakers. I've checked wireless interferance, speaker wires, etc. I've restarted everything many times and reset everything to defaults. It was working just fine a week ago. Do these wireless receivers go faulty? Is this a known issue? Where do I send them in for a new receiver? Thanks!! Bill

I have a similar problem too. But mine is that the rear receiver couldn't power up at all. There's no blue light or any activity. I tried changing power chords and power points but still nothing from the receiver. But the problem is that its no longer under warranty and i wonder how much will it cost for service. I really dislike the fact that Creative's website did not have a Customer Service hotline for me to call and enquire about such things. Instead they use online email forms, which are crap if the customer service officers choose to ignore them. I sent my enquiry 2 days ago and till now, there's not even a slightest news from them!! Really lousy service.

  • How I got my Jukebox 3 to work in Vi

    Yes.
Here is how I did it.
I downloaded the latest JB3 driver from Creative.
I plugged in the player (using USB). Before unpacking the driver, I right clicked on the install pack and chose "compatibility", then checked "install in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2", then exited the popup window and double clicked the icon to start the installation. The driver unpacks to the 65% point, then stalls. I forced Vista to close through the Task Manager, then unplugged the JB3 and replugged it in. Vista then recognized the device and installed the driver.
It doesn't show in Creative MediaSource (as a matter of fact, this bolloxed MediaSource), but it works in Creative Media Explorer, Yahoo! Jukebox, and Rhapsody Music Organizer. I can transfer, organize, and delete tracks.
    Tom

Hey, thanks! I did slightly different from you, didn't need the plugging/unplugging. But got the main ideas from you, that is, to use XP Compatibility Mode for the XP Driver and XP Nomad Explorer.
Here are the explicit steps to emphasize that you get the downloads from checking "XP" on the Creative site, exactly where to select compatibility mode, and that you don't plug in the JB3 until told.
    1. Downloaded and save the latest JB3 driver from Creative Labs' site using *XP* download, not Vista download.
    2. Right click on driver .exe, Properties --> Compatibility --> "Run this program in compatibility mode for [XP SP2]"
    3. Run the driver .exe before connecting the Jukebox 3. It will run to 00%.
    4. Connect the JB3 when told to by the driver install program.
    - voila -
For Nomad Explorer, similar steps as - 3. At first I couldn't copy any files from or to the JB3, getting access denied messages. The fix was simply to exit everything and unplug, and start again. For some reason it now works.
    Thanks much!
(One other addition for people who might only be looking at this post: this only works using the USB port.)

  • How to i get the speakers to work on my monitor the sounds comes out of my hard drive

I have a large monitor on my desk and the sound does not come out of the speakers on the monitor the sound comes out of the mini hard drive- how do I fix that to get it to work out of the monitor

If it's an Apple monitor, make sure its USB cable is plugged into the Mac, and select it in the "Output" tab of "Sound" system preference.

  • How can i get my speakers to work?

the speakers to my phone wont work. but just for music and sound effects also none of the volume bars appear on my phone. the ring still works for calls but not the ring for txt or anything else.

First off check all volume settings on the iPhone. Make sure that the volume s turned up and that the mute/slide switch is not showing orange. After that if the iPhone continues to have sound issues you may want to try a few more simple steps such as a hardware restart or resetting all settings. however by the sounds of the issue you may want to simply attempt to restore the device through iTunes. of course if you decide to do so I recommend backing up all of your content and importing your photos. Also to test for possible hardware issues you should setup the iPhone as new after restoring it and test the speakers for sound. I hope this helps.
Hardware restart: Hold down the both the sleep/wake button on top of the device and the home button underneath the touch screen for roughly ten seconds or until you see the Apple logo. Once you have the Apple logo on the screen release the buttons and the iPhone should restart.
Reset all settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings.

  • How I got my iPod to FINALLY work

When my husband bought my iPod for me, he didn't purchase Applecare. But since I reported problems with it while it was still under warranty, I could still purchase Applecare. I really recommend doing this if you can. They (usually) service it for free.
To make a long story short, my computer (powermac G5) wasn't recognizing my ipod, so therefore I couldn't download anything on it...very frustrating.
So, I returned it to Applecare, and they sent me a new one, still didn't work. And we did this again, it still didn't work. UNTIL I was told to plug it into the back of the computer...it works.
For some reason, my iPod only works in the USB port in the back of my hard drive tower.
Hopefully, this will work for some of you...

"For some reason, my iPod only works in the USB port in the back of my hard drive tower"
Although I'm not familiar with your particular computer, some USB ports are not connected directly to the computers motherboard, and those that are tend to work better with the iPod because of this.
This may be the reason why your iPod was instantly recognized when you changed ports.

Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

  • How to make line-in come out rear speakers? (SB Live! 5

Card is SB Li've! 5. DE and OS is XP SP2:
    ================================
I have tried everything that I can think of. It was working fine until I installed a program which screwed up my mixer settings. I have loaded the default mixer settings. Now my rear speakers only work for wave devices, but not line-in.
Is there a way to make line-in come out both the front and rear speakers, or set the rear speakers to duplicate the front speakers (losing the surround feature)?
Failing that I will have to resort to plugging both sets of speakers into the one socket via an adapter - I don't wish to do this as I had this working for many months.
    Please help.

Weird. I just installed Creative PlayCenter from the driver CD and after the reboot, line-in now comes out the rear speakers again. Must've been some system files updated or something, because CMSS is still off according to PlayCenter. When I turn CMSS on, the line-in stops coming out rear, but turning it off makes it work!!!! So it's sorted, but still have no idea why it screwed up and why I needed PlayCenter installed to change the CMSS settings.

  • HELP! Xtreme Music wont play rear speakers in 5.1 (only work in CMSS-

Just upgraded to quad core and dx0 and still my Xtreme Music will not play true 5. and EAX, my rear speakers only work when in CMSS-3D. I have always had this problem since the day i bought the card but i didnt occur to me that it wasnt playing EAX.
For example when i do the 5. speaker test with the CMSS3D off, the rear speakers play out of the front ones as if it were 2. .
I have ran dxdiag and and it says that it only detects the card as being software audio insted of hardware. Also while playing Medieval 2 Total War it says while selecting any EAX type "unable to find hardware support"

  • Can't get Bose computer speakers to work with my Mac pro lion

I have just bought the Bose Companion 11 computer speakers for my Mac Book Pro. They are set up correctly (in the headphone jack) and they play my itunes music beautifully. However, when they are plugged in I get no sound from internet videos, etc. I have to take the plug out of my headphones jack and then I get the sound from my computer but not the speakers. Can anyone help ..I don't know what I am doing wrong...or how to get the Bose speakers to work with all my computer (internet content). I looked at system preferences and the Output says headphone port but the input says internal microphone (built-in).
    Please help.
    Thank You,
    Karen

Don't worry about offending me...I am, admittedly, no computer whiz! I have had speakers before....but I took these in to Best Buy...with my computer (Where I bought them) and the "Geek" person plugged them in and they worked.
What we did notice was that the jack that goes into the plug just below the left speaker plug was loose. So I brought it home and it worked! Then tonight I turned on my computer and no speaker input, so I checked the back of the right speaker and that plug (if that is the right name?) had fallen out...so re-connected it and they work! So, I guess I may have to tape that plug in ...or what do you suggest??...so it doesn't keep falling out.
Thanks so much for answering me.

There is a very good reason why it tells you your card isn't supported, that's because it isn't,?This download?is an?application for Creative Sound Blaster? X-Fi? series of audio devices. It restores 3D audio and EAX? effects for certain DirectSound?3D games in Microsoft? Windows Vista?. For more details, read the rest of this web release note.
This download supports the following audio devices only:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi?XtremeGamer Fatalty?Pro<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatalty<
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic<
?Alchemy was written to translate DirectSound3D software calls to OpenAL hardware calls, and unfortunately the Xtreme Audio doesn't have the hardware, the EMU20K2?(all that card basically is is a renamed SB Li've 24 bit/Audigy SE, neither of which have the hardware either).
