How I got Voice Tags to work on my E65

If contact has a single telephone number the voice tag is automatically created for that number.
If the contact has multiple telephone numbers a voice tag is created but not easy to find!!
If you open a contact and scroll down the details on the right hand side of one of the telephone numbers is what looks like a “Pac-Mac”. With this number highlight press the “option” key and “Play voice tag” will be available. “Play voice tag” isn't avalible unless the number with the “pac-man” is selected.
I've noticed that I update or edit a contact the “Play voice tag” disappears. To get it to re-appear I go out of the address book and back in, seems to work.

How I got my TV@nywhere working

I got the card a while ago and had to solve many of the problems I read about on the forum.
1. It took me 5 days of searching to figure out that the serial number for the MSI PVS player is actually on the label of the cd itself
2. Having solved that, I installed the software and hooked up the audio cable, remote receiver and coax for cable tv. I got it sort of working, with good remote functionality but fritzy audio. Basically, if I changed the channel, the audio would die until I changed it in the settings menu of the pvs software. Oh, and I think I just got lucky on the whole infrared remote thing: mine works fine.*
3. I solved the audio problem by installing the beta drivers that I got here and the updated msi PVS from here .
4. I haven't noticed the lack of stereo, and no mpeg4 hasn't affected me .... yet. So overall, I think the tuner has better picture than my Voodoo 3 3500, more features, but worse performance (it's a pig loading for the first time, and channel surfing is out of the question).
I'm running Win2KPro, SP3
1.2 GHz Athlon, 512 of PC 2100
on an MSI K7T266 Pro

* I read in another post about someone with a nonfunctioning remote system saying that the indicator on the remote wouldn't light up. Score a point for good reporting of all suspicions, but unfortunately, the LED on the end of the remote is an infrared transmission diode. Unless you have some very special eyes, you shouldn't be able to see it light up. Radioshack happens to sell a little card that indicates the presence of infrad radiation, designed specifically for diagnosing remote problems like this.
ALSO, anyone having problems with the remote: Make sure it's plugged all the way in. It clicks several times and you have to push the plug uncomfortably hard. Also make sure you have the Intervideo WinCinema Manager running. It appears as a circular blue icon in the system tray.
I kinda wish MSI had expressed more judgment before deciding to release an obviously incomplete product like the TV@nywhere. Oh well, c'est la vie. Or something.

Well, I originally had stereo until I updated to the new drivers and my stereo went away. So I retreated back to the original pvs drivers. Not sure why the newer drivers are only mono. Also, unlike most posts I read, my picture and sound quality are excellent. I have a geforce4 4400, asus A7V-133 motherboard 640mg ram. I ran a dvd and vhs through the inputs of the msi tuner card, all worked great, even recorded in vcd format (mpeg1). I don't use the remote since my cable input comes from my digital TV cable box and I switch channels with that remote. I understand everyones frustration with the drivers, software and docujmentation/support. I am satisfied with this product, since it adds some more fun to my multimedia entertainment.
I did fine tune station 3 in my setup screen to enhance some color, just moved a couple of ticks. But, I am not experiencing the hugh problems some people complain about. (eg. snowy picture). My am working with my friend that has a real crappy picture. I have reloaded all my drivers and never once witnessed any poor video and audio. My suggest is for you to keep playing with it. Also, i am using ME.

How I got my ipdo to work again after the latest updater

after about 20 hours of headaches and listening to everyone's similar problems and trying everything under the rotten apple tree, here's yet another solution that seems to have fixed the problem. will have to wait and see how long.
I went to another computer that has never been tainted by (cr)apple software before. downloaded (do a save to a folder not a run) an earlier ipod updater from here http://www.soft32.com/download_121872.html
I then disabled my network connection and installed the updater. after doing that I got a windows pop-up about rebooting to update my usb drivers. I said no, I prefer microsoft.
it took a couple of tries but I got my ipod restored with nothing on it of course.
I then installed itunes (latest version). It did recognize my ipod and I told it "not to auto update". I played around manually dragging files onto my ipod and it seemed ok so I took it back to the original computer that has my thousands of songs on it. experimented some more with manually updating it. felt it was working fairly well so took a chance at having it auto-update. all seems fine now.
now at the risk of being un-constitutionally censored here's my opinion about the whole scneario.
a) the people at apple are too incompetent to conjure up a "force to upgrade hardware" scheme. sorry, it's simply just that same incompetence that has created the problem. the same incompetence that can't fix the problem. and the same incompetence that ignores the problem. any decent company wouldn't ignore it's customers like this. at least admit the problem and say your working on it.
b) when an apple product works it works...when it doesn't it doesn't. there are no fixes, no solutions. when it breaks it's time to purchase something new. anyone even contemplating sending in their ipod for repair shouldn't. if you are going to dish out that kind of dough you should move away from apple's proprietary stuff and get with the program and move to an industry standard such as mp3.
c) the ipod fad will end like everything else in apple's history. the ipod like every other apple product is a joke. why else after 20 years can they only manage but a tiny percentage of the personal computing market.
d) I'm obviously not a fan of apple, never have been never will be..just had a brief moment of insanity when purchasing my ipod a couple years back. will never happen again.

How I got my K7N2 L Working

At boot up I got a blue Stop screen with inaccesible boot drive error. I was running Windows 2000. MY BIOS was good with AMD 2500 + XP and FSB of 333 showing up. My D-2 bracket was showing a real time clock error. Every time I got to Windows 2000 booting, I would get the blue screen. AT the advice of Wonk and others on this site, here was my solution.
1. Upgrade PSU to Antec 430 True Power from an Antec 300
2. Saved my Boot disk drive files to my slave for back up data.
3. Ran a Maxtor scan disk for errors on my boot disk. HDD ok
4. Reformatted the HDD with NTSF format
5. Rehooked up my re-build system
6. Clear CMOS
7. Install Windows XP (good to have friends)
8. Computer is working great!
One question my CPU is running only at 1833 mhz. Anyhting I can do to get her up to her 2500+?

How I got ActiveSync/Exchange to work with Iphone3G

So, to the point.
First, my setup:
Windows SBS 2003, Exchange 2003 SP2, default website in IIS is secured by a 3rd party (geotrust) certificate.
Second: My initial attempts
I started off by tapping into the iphone the various details it asks for in this format:
Email add ->[email protected]
Userrname: domain\username - NOTE: I did not use '.local' after the domain and i did use '\' (backslash) to separate them. I notice there has been some discussion over whether to use / or \, i used \.
SSL -> ON
pressed enter, asked for server:
Server-> mail.company.co.uk
pressed enter
'Account Verfication Failed'
I tried countless variations of the above details and nothing worked. Note, the format I've written them out above is the currently workingh details are entered.
Third, getting it to work:
After a while i started to play around with exchange default website settings.
To cut a long story short, I got this working by going to:
IIs -> Websites -> Default Website -> Microsoft ServerActiveSync
Right Click - Properties - Directory Security - IP Address and Domain Name restrictions - EDIT
My current settings were 'all computers denied access except [server ip]'
I changed this to 'all computers GRANTED access'
That was it. It now works
Now, I dont know if this is a serious security mistake I've just made - i need to do some tests from outside the network, so i may revert this action, but for now iphone 3g is syncing.
I'd be happy to answer any questions, or if someone reckons I shouldnt have done the above, then let me know.

Is it on the host machine, or is this assuming you have server admin privileges?

How I got iChat AV to work with an AIM user...

After wasting my Saturday downloading this, reading that, I kept getting user did not respond errors when trying to initiate a one-way video im to a PC user. I finally got it to work. Simply, install a microphone on the PC. That's it. Now I am depressed.

Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
It does seem that iChat regards the fact that a PC with no Mic and no camera is not sending any data and regards this as a fault and ends the chats, normally, with the 10 sec error.

Ok folks...this is how I got my itunes to work!

I was one of the unfortunate whose latest upgrade didn't work. Here is what I finally did to get it going with the current itunes (7.5) and the current quicktime (7.3). I started by following the directions in this instruction.

Scroll down to "general installation troubleshooting" and choose the first tutorial named: Completely Remove Itunes and Quicktime
Follow those directions completely but while you are in the add/remove program section deleting itunes and quicktime also choose anything labeled "Apple" and delete it also.
Next go to Start>Search>Advanced Search and type in itunes and search everywhere. Do the same for Quicktime and Apple. Whatever you come up with delete it. I'm on vista so folks that are using vista may also want to look under C>User choose your name then local and make sure there are no apple,itunes, ipod or quicktime entries there. If you find any delete them. Then empty your recycle bin and restart your computer.
Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download and download the latest itunes. Install it and you should have the current version with the current version of quicktime.
This worked for me, hopefully it will help some of you.

Update:
I decided to try a restore of the shuffle and re-sync to see if that would help. When I clicked on restore, it shut itunes down and wouldn't come back up. So I had to delete itunes and quicktime and start all over. After cleaning all the stuff out and downloading the new version quicktime didn't appear on the desktop as an icon nor did it show in add/remove. I tried a repair of itunes...no help. Just for the heck of it, I downloaded the standalone version of quicktime and lo and behold itunes was back up and running. I still have the problem with the shuffle also. Won't sync all the songs in the playlist. I now noticed that all of my nano playlist songs aren't there. Missing about 40 there. Also, everytime I plug in either ipod I get this "autoplay" flash asking me if I want to open the files to the ipod using windows explorer. All it does is open G which is where my ipod is located. You can close it and itunes works right on except for not putting all the songs in the playlist.
I'm out of ideas. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF SOMETHING I CAN DO OR TRY NEXT!

The Scene:
1 Ghz Titanium Powerbook
iTunes 4.9
20 G iPod firmware v. 3.1
The facts:
Start iTunes 4.9. Tells me there's an update available. "Oh, Boy!" Install the update via Software Update. Start iTunes 5. Looks nice. Plug in Firewire cable with iPod at other end.
KERNEL PANIC
Restart.
iTunes 5 will not see iPod. System profiler will see iPod. Disk Utility will see iPod. iPod Updater will see iPod but only to restore. iTunes 5 will not see iPod.
Browse Apple forums.
Aha! Close eyes and Delete iPodDriver.kext.
Big mistake. Powerbook does not like iPod now. Nothing sees the iPod. Copy iPodDriver.kext back to original location. OS does not like the way it was installed.
Restore iPodDriver.kext with Pacifist.
back to square one.
Connect iPod. Open iPod Updater. Click restore. Follow prompts. Disconnect iPod. Set language on iPod. Reconnect iPod. iTunes starts, sees iPod, synchs with iPod, music and files are restored, all is right with the world and I'm a happy camper.

Also, if your iPod does not display the do not disconnect icon on its screen, you will need to reboot to continue.
If the iPod does display the icon, but itunes doesnt recognize the unit, use Windows' "Safely Remove Hardware" application to disconnect it.

HTC Touch 2 voice tags

Can anyone tell me how to get voice tags on the HTC Touch 2 ? I have a good Parrot in car kit which recognises voice activation. It only recognises it if you have a voice tag attached to a contact on your phone. After speaking to technical support (BT) they could not come up with a solution. Hopefully some of you experts out there can help me out. Thanx.

WM6.5 doesn't come with voicetags/voice dialling as there are some issues with it. The clever folks over at XDADevelopers have tried a few things, and for me it's now working, although there are reported probelms with some in car systems, but it works with my Plantronics headset, and my Fiat 500 Blue&Me system. Worth a try...
This link will take you to page 3 of a long thread discussing this issue, at the top of page 3 is the cab that I'm using, you'll need to register with the site (it's free, and worth doing as there is a lot of useful stuff there) to be able to download.
If you need any help setting it up, it should be in that thread, but if not, just drop back here and I'll see what I can do.

How to turn off Voice tags in Nokia 5310 when conn...

Now i've got my new Nokia 5310 xpress music,
Does anyone know how to turn off the voice tags when connected to a bluetooth headset?
I've problem when put bluetooth in my pocket and not intend to push the button so the phone will dial to anyone that I won't to talk to.

lock the keypad on the phone and make sure automatic lock of the keypad is working, this should do the trick, pressing and holding the button on the bluetooth headset will prompt for the voice tag of course

6300 - how do i turn off voice tags - SO ANNOYING

Now i've got my new Nokia 6300, (of which i must say is NOWHERE near as good as the 6230i & REALLY regret buying this phone).
Anyway, does anyone know how to turn off the voice tags when connected to a bluetooth headset?

You guys must have a very different 6300 than I do. Although it is not perfect in every way, I simply love mine. I find it to be incredibly refined with very few flaws. Of course I am running the latest version of the firmware (v.5.5) and mine is unbranded. I think that might make a difference, especially if you are running an early buggy firmware version. Also, I don't use the voice dialing function at all so I can't comment on that. It is true that many people have reported problems with that function, however, I haven't had any need to turn it off or deactivate it.
Of course it would be better if the phone had more internal memory but I haven't found that to be much of a problem since one can expand the memory up to 2 gigs with micro SD cards. The 6230i's expandability I believe is limited to 512 meg if I recall correctly and its screen is pretty bad to put it mildly. Anyway, I simply store and move most apps and everything else I can over to the card memory, thereby freeing up as much internal phone memory as possible which leaves me with over 3 megs free internal phone memory. Hasn't caused me any inconvenience yet, although I imagine if I tried to transfer a file larger than 3 megs via bluetooth to the phone, that might not be possible. I don't see that as being a major problem though.
There are so many things that are new, different and BETTER on this phone compared to older phones (even the 6233 which is not that old), that I really love. For example, the fabulous display that displays 16 million colors and about 14 lines of very sharp text in Opera Mini, and that doesn't turn off too quickly and can be read when the back light is off; the cool flashing notification lights that alert you to unread messages, missed calls, voice mails, unviewed reminders, etc; the way the radio auto tunes itself to available stations; the ability to have flashlite animated wallpaper and screensavers which allows for the display of some great stuff, for example, a variety of nice large animated clock wallpapers (available for free download from the web); the way almost every menu and function is so much more refined than on previous phones; the solid stainless steel case and slim form factor; the overall great build quality (except for the rattling power on switch, which is a very minor issue); the standard mini USB connector, (instead of the horrible proprietary pop port); and I'm sure I could think of more things but these are just some of the things that occur to me quickly.
Try browsing the web with Opera Mini 4 beta 3 on the 6300. It is just amazing what that little screen can do.

If you look in the audio output port, is there a red light showing. If so, the internal switch is stuck.. Insert the headphones a few times, jiggle a toothpick inside or shot some compressed air to trip the switch. If no success, have the Apple store genius bar technician do it.

You don't need to add any sort of tags to call by voice. It's built into the system. Go to Settings>General>Siri and make sure it's set to On.
To use Siri, press and hold the Home button. When the microphone icon pops up and there is a beep, say, "Call <name from your contacts>"
Consult the manual for more information on Siri.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
