How I restore my mac air to factory

How do I restore my air to factory settings

Use the Disk Utility on its original thumbdrive(if it shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier) or the preloaded recovery partition to erase the drive and install a new OS.

How do I completely restore my Mac Air?

Boot from the Reinstall Drive (USB thumb drive) that came with your MBA.
(Restart and when you hear the startup sound, hold down the C key until the gray pinwheel appears)
When the OS X window appears, select your language.
On the next screen, select Utilities from the Menu Bar.
To restore to an earlier point in time from a Time Machine backup, select Restore System from Backup
To make your machine look like it did when new, select Disk Utility, then select the system drive and click the Erase button.
This will reformat the drive and you can then reinstall the OS from the main menu.

  • How to restore my mac mini

how do i restore my mac mini to factory settings?

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See What to do with iCloud before selling your computer.
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

    This will do the trick.
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

How to connect my Mac Air 13" to my Philips display with DVI and VGA ports?

Use a DVI to micro-DVI adapter if you're on an original MacBook Air, and a Mini DisplayPort adapter for a newer one.

  • How to restore the mac

    hi there,
i have a mac book pro which i bought in the middle of 2011, and my current mac sofetwear is "mac os x version 10.6.8",
i wanted to upgrade the sofewear to 10.8, which i just bought from app atore(australia) for $20.99, but when i installing the softwear at step "choose the disk for install", i found that i cannot choose any one of my disk, it says"No user GUID available"
just wanna ask can i just restore my mac and install the new version of 10.8?(i already copy all the important data to my hard drive cz when i use time machine to back up the mac,it also says that no disk is avaiable)
and if i need to restore the mac how can i do it?
and do i need to buy agian the 10.8 softwear from app store if i restore my mac?
    looking forward to your reply
    thank you very much:)
    regards
    angie

You have a older Mac that was upgraded to 10.6.8 without a GUID partition table it sounds like.
Anyway, take your machine to a local PC/Mac tech and have them reccomend a course of action, make backups of your data and do the upgrade, provided your machine is capable of it.
You need more RAM, at least 4GB or more and a 64 bit processor really for the latest operating system, and some Mac's 10.8 can't be installed on.
It's all rather complicated and best for you to have a professioanl do it and if the machine is earlier than Early 2011, you might want to consider sticking with 10.6.8, 2010 models are iffy and won't have all the hardare features with the new OS X version.
According to all the reports I've been scouring, it seems 2011 machines and later have little problems upgrading to 10.8, it's all the earlier ones that are having issues and if your out of AppleCare, if the firmware breaks the machine, it's a out of pocket expense for a new logicboard or your looking at a total loss.
I had OS X 10.7 brick a perfectly working older machine, you don't hear the people complaining too much about that because they can't.
