How i saved my ipod from the itunes restore loop

this is a success story, i hope it will help others to save their ipods too. my ipod is a black 30gb 5g (late 2006) whereas my system is leopard 10.5.4 and itunes 8.0.2. but i'm sure it will also work with another ipod, mac os x and itunes version.
*what happend:*
my ipod fell on the floor from about one meter height. it was not the first time that's why i didn't really worried about any damage. but this time it was different.
*the symptoms:*
my ipod showed a white screen with the text "Connect to your Computer. Use iTunes to restore.". i connected it to my mac, the ipod mounted on the desktop with a generic white harddisk icon. then i started the restore process inside itunes. after about a minute the ipod restarted and instead of showing me an installing-progress-bar the ipod showed me the same white sceen again. after the fourth or fith restore i realized that i was cought in the itunes restore loop.

*the solution:*
i searched the internet and came across a lot of articles that described the same problem as mine but none solved it. then i stumbled over a very useful post in the forums. it proposes a lot of solutions. maybe it is useful to read it before you continue with my post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4531234
+note: the following procedure will delete all the data on your ipod.+
1. connect your ipod to your mac. wait until it is mounted on the desktop. if the ipod isn't mounted put it in disk mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
2. ignore any message from itunes and open the "Disk Utility" application inside your "Utilities" of the "Appplications" folder.
3. choose your ipod in the sidebar. switch to the tab erase.
4. choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as volume format. leave the other options as is.
5. click on the "Security Options …" button. in the sheet choose "Zero Out Data" and click on "OK".
6. click on the "Erase …" button and wait for about two hours. it will take longer on a bigger harddisk.
7. the earse will end with an error message telling you something about invalid data. ignore it. this is because the harddisk can't be partitioned without the correct drivers form the firmware.
8. eject your ipod and reconnect it to your mac. itunes should now start with a message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes". click on "Restore" and wait.
9. after a moment the ipod should restart and an installation progress bar will appear. do not disconnect the ipod and wait until the install is complete.
10. the ipod will restart and now you should get back your normal ipod interface. congratulations, you saved your ipod!
if the described procedure didn't solve your problem you can put your ipod in diagnostic mode to see where the problem may be. for this you need a wall power supply or a fully loaded ipod: http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml/

Hi,
Can you tell me if you do this will I lose the TV shows that I have purchased and downloaded on ITunes 7.0. I am having serious problems installing CD's. Everytime I open the new version and install a CD, my computer keeps restarting and then says there was a serious error to my computer. Sometimes, it mentions DVD 43, and sometime it mentions a video device driver, my this is a new computer not even two months old. I have the old version still installed on my laptop and was wondering about moving it over to the main PC, but would hate to lose my purchases.
Thanks

  • I am selling my sons ipod and i need to reset the ipod from the itunes account because there is a password that no one remembers

I am selling my sons ipod and i need to reset the ipod from the itunes account because there is a password and no one remembers it.  I am not an expert ( or even close) on the itunes stuff so I have tried everything I can see.

If you have a passcode to the screen lock that you've forgotten and your device is running iOS 6 or earlier, restore the device from the computer to which the device is synced. For information and instructions, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the device into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If that still doesn't work, as a last resort try DFU mode:
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
If your device is running iOS 7 and you set up Find My iPhone (iPad/iPod),  however, then it has the Activation Lock on it and you'll need to enter in your Apple ID and password after erasing to be able to restore the device:

    Regards.

  • HT2731 how do you enable cookies from the iTune store so I can download music

how do one enable cookies from the iTunes store so I may download music?

Search for music and then buy it.
If you already have music you want to import to the iPhone, connect it to your computer and open the iTunes application on the computer, and start a sync (in the lower right of the window).

If you don't have access to the computers to manually deauthorize them (they were sold, stolen, etc), then you have to log into your account, deauthorize all computers, and then re-authorize the machine(s) that you want to have access. This page explains how.

  • HT1689 How do I download magazines from the ITunes Store? It won't let me download.

When I try to download magazines, it tells me to contact support.

I sort of found a solution for mine.
If you look in iTunes in your iPhone Sync tab, there is a tab called "On This iPhone." The songs that would remove from my iPhone were listed here, but grayed-out. They also had a doted circle next to each in the left column. I thinks this indicates they are getting streamed from your iTunes Match account or from the iTunes Store. So, I turned on iTunes Match and then clicked the download cloud next to each in my iTunes song list on my iPhone. Once these were all downloaded, I was able to swipe left and delete each with the red button. A word of caution and why I say this is "sort of a solution." They still appeared in my iPhone Sync "On This iPhone" tab as before. I was able to delete these from there by selecting and then applying "Manually manage music and videos," and then deleting each one in the "On This iPhone" list. BUT they would reappear when I did a sync with "Sync Music" unchecked. Don't know what the deal is now.

  • How do you move songs from the 'iTunes library to 'Jenni's iPod Selection'?

I have 2 folders with songs in them: iTunes Library and Jenni's iPod Selection. Whenever I download music, they are automatically saved in the 'iTunes Library' folder. But when I hook up my iPod to download them into the iPod, the songs are downloaded from the 'Jenni's iPod Selection' folder. Most of the songs are in the iTunes Library folder... Can someone help me?

Song that are imported from CD or downloaded into iTunes are always going to be in iTunes music folder. Can't change this.
Any reason you don't want this and you have music stored in "Jenni's iPod Selection"?
Why not add it all to the iTunes music folder and create a playlist called "Jenni's iPod Selection".

  • HT1296 My ipod was a gift and had music downloaded.  How do I download music from the Itunes installed on my pc?

My ipod is sync'd to my son's pc, which he no longer has.  How do I now sync my ipod to my pc so I can download music from my itunes?

    Follow these instructions:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    To sync:
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod.... and follow the instructions.

  • How do I sync my iPod from the iTunes Music folder?

So basically, I have a bunch of bad songs on my iTunes that I would like to delete, but I want to keep the music files. I want to sync every single song I have on my computer right now (which are all currently on iTunes) to my iPod touch. The problem is, I want to delete all of the bad songs from iTunes so I only have the good songs left on iTunes and then sync them to the iPhone. So I want to have all my songs on my iPod Touch, but only the good ones on iTunes and my iPhone. So what I want to do is delete all of the bad songs from iTunes, but keep the files so that they stay on my computer. All of my songs are currently located at C:\Users\Owner\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music so if I delete all the bad songs from iTunes but click Keep Files, then all of my songs will stay retained in that folder, but will be gone from iTunes. I want to know if there is some way to sync all of the songs in my Music folder to my iPod without them being in iTunes.
Long story short, I want to put all of my entire Music folder on my iPod without using iTunes.
    Thanks for any help.

    1. you have to disable auto sync and continue sync manually ( which all advanced users with multiple devices do anyway)
Very doubtful even a majority of advanced users with multiple devices "sync" manually.
    I don't.
(FYI: You don't "sync manually" You "manually manage" without syncing at all).
I have never called you names - like "advanced user" for example- I do not know or presume to know you or your habits, personally. I actually do sync manually (by clicking when I need to chose those little checkboxes), or I actually manually manage by dragging and dropping - I can do both. I also do not presume that I can teach you anything, but I can definetly help OP.
    @Original Poster
Once you enable "manually manage option" and after you delete content that you don't want to have in your itunes, imagine you got something new that you want to put in your ipod. You add that movie to itunes and you instead of syncing it ( that would remove from ipod all content that is not itunes anymore.) you literally drag that movie from itunes library to the icon/image of your ipod in itunes on the left side. And it will sync only that movie/song/playlist, without affecting other things

  • How can I remove associations from the itunes library

I messed up...I had some of my music on my computer, and ALL of my music on my network attach storage which of course included all the music on my computer.  I was trying to only add some additional stuff from the NAS to  my iTunes library but somehow added ALL of it which in the end will be great but currently I have literally dozens of duplicate albums.  I'd like to somehow remove an entire folder associated with my iTunes library but cannot figure out how to do that.  If I could somehow remove or edit the associations to my local music and then associate only to the music folder on my NAS I believe the problem would be solved,  is there anyway to do that?

You simply have to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos". You can get details here: Managing content manually on iPod
One major word of caution. If you delete songs from your PC and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up songs you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD. Forum member Buegie has compiled a very extensive procedure for backing up your music which you'll find at this link: Backing up iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • HT1725 How do I find "downloads" from the iTunes Store?

I got a free download of a movie from Fandango.  When I pressed redeem, with the correct code, the download was supposed to start.  Nothing happened that I could see or find in purchases. How do I know if the download occurred or where I can find it?

If you've done it on your iPhone then is it in the Downloads tab in the iTunes store app, or has it finished downloading and is now in the Videos app ?
