How Import 2nd Outlook Exp. Address book? T-bird keeps wanting to keep importing 1st one again!

Trying to import from Outlook Express on XP system toT-Bird on Win 8.1 using flash drive. Told T-Bird Address Book Import function the wrong. wab so I deleted the initial wab and tried to import the correct one but T-Bird keeps importing the 1st one. It no longer lets me select the correct file it just seems to assume that it knows what I want and proceeds without letting me select the file. I did try leaving the 1st one on the system and importing the correct one but again it just imported the 1st one a second time!

Thank you for your response. Your answer got me thinking. I tried deleting 1st one from flash drive and deleting all contacts from the Contacts folder and finally I got to flash drive and imported 2nd file. However this did not go well so I must have a "cockpit" error that i will have to address.
But thanks again for getting me on the correct track.

  • Importing Windows Outlook Express address book

    Hello
I have been trying to import an Outlook Express address book (which is stored on a DVD) to MS Entourage with not much luck
I can't seem to find an 'option' to import an external address book.
The only options available seem to be to import Entourage docs/archives etc.
    Can anyone help?

I've been looking into this myself and there are a number of possibilities. You can't just import an address book but importing all your contacts can be done. Search discussions here for the topic (the Mail and Address Book forum has stuff on getting contacts out of Outlook) and also Google the web, there are several threads elsewhere. There are even shareware utilities to help.
Also look under Mac 101: Shifting From PC in the Support section here. Apple has a little bit to say on it, although not terribly helpful to me.

  • How do I import an Outlook Express address book, saved to a memory stick from another PC?

I'm migrating everything from an old Windows XP machine on to a Windows 7 PC, and can't use my original email client, Outlook Express. But I need to import the OE address book from the XP PC to Thunderbird on the Win 7 PC. Any ideas?

Click the Start button, type contacts, then open the Contacts Program, then click the Import button, then select Windows Address Book file (.wab), and select your OE address book. Next, click the Export button and select Comma separated (csv) format. Once you have the csv file, it's worth opening it in a spreadsheet program or csv editor and arranging the columns to match the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_address_list_from_text_file TB address book layout]. Finally, in TB select Tools/Import...Address books...Text file...select the csv file, and verify the input fields match the TB fields.

  • How Do I Import Outlook Express Address Book?

I have a PC running WXP using Outlook Express as a mail client. And, I have a MAC that I'm trying to get email set up on. I'm trying to get completely off WXP as a home computing environment. Accordingly, I'd like to import the Outlook Express address book from the PC into Address Book on the MAC so I don't have to re-key all those entries. But, I guess I'm not entering the correct magic words, because I haven't been able to find anywhere online exactly how to do this. The Address Book application implies that it can import a csv file, but I can't find out what the format of the CSV file is supposed to be. I exported the OE Address book to a WAB file on my WXP system, and mounted that disk to MAC, and I can see the file, but there doesn't seem to be any way to import it.
I can create a CSV file fairly easily in Windows if I know the format MAC address Book expects it to be in so I can import it.
So, I need a clue. I'm surprised to find out how difficult this seems to be, given the general user-friendliness of the Apple environment, and that no one else seems to have had the problem.

Haven't done this yet but when I was getting my new iMac, we googled it at the Apple store and saw a link to advice on how to do this through Mozilla - apparently you have to transfer it to Mozilla first and then to the Mac. Hope this helps.
And btw, any other new converts having trouble with their new iMac's freezing up? Here I was all ready to be part of the Apple Army and loved it for the first few days -- only to have it freeze on me so often that I'm ready to bring this lemon back to the store.

  • I can't import contacts from Outlook to Address Book

I've tried to do the research before asking this question, but I can't get this to work. How do you import contacts from Microsoft Outlook to Address book? When I try to export from Outlook, the only option I have is .csv file, it doesn't give me an option to export as a vcard. I've exported to a .csv file and tried importing this into Address Book as a text file, and it opens up a window called Text File Import. When I click OK nothing happens. I'm new to the Mac world so I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One way if you are still accessing an email account with Outlook is the following:
In Contacts, click the contact you want to send as a vCard or select all to send all, and then on the Actions menu, click Forward as vCard.
All contacts will be added to a new message created as separate vCard attachments. Send the message to an email account you are accessing with the Mail.app on the Mac.
Create a folder on the Mac desktop or in your location of choice and save all vCard attachments received via email to this folder.
Launch Address Book and at the menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards navigating to the folder that contains the vCard files sent from Outlook.

Not directly; OE is not supported by iTunes. You need full Outlook. Address Book in later versions of Windows is supported.

  • Lion Server: How do I import into the central address book?

    Hello
I could successfully import addresses into the local address book of my Mac Mini (using the import function of the address book application).
However, I want the addresses to be in the central, shared address book of the Lion Server. I can't find a way to import there.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks! Martin

Never mind, I figured it out: Open the local addresses, select all, drag/drop to the desktop. Then open the server address book and drag/drop from the desktop.

  • Transfering Outlook Express Address Book to OS X mail

    Hi Folks,
Have finally made the leap from OS 9 to OS X.
    That was the easy part.
Now, how to successfully tranfer my 700+items Outlook Express Address Book into OS X mail? I'm about at my wits end. I've thus far managed to transfer the lot of them into Microsoft 'entourage' X. Whew! I still can't figure out how to transfer them into the OS X email program. I need access to those names/email addresses ASAP. It's vital to my work. Help!
    Thanks much in advance.
    Namaskara,
    David M.

I'm a newbie, but I think this may work:
Since Mail uses the addresses stored in Mac's Address Book app, open AB. Go to File/Import and select LDIF as the type of file you wish to import. Locate and click on the OE address book filename in the window that appears. It is most probably located in the Documents folder. Highlight the filename and click Open. The contents of this file will now appear in AB, and will then be accessible from Mail.
Let us know if it works.

So my dad's address book won't open. First, outlook express says that the address book isn't installed properly, and then that the address book file is corrupted. It has important business contacts, so its imperative that I save the data.
How can I get into the file? I can open it in notepad and I see a lot of the text, but its mostly names and I can't find any email addresses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Certainly you can.

How do I export Outlook 2010 Address Book
You cannot export the Address Book itself. The AB is a specialized view of the Outlook contact folders designated to be include in the AddressBook. What needs to get exported are the individual contact folders which comprise the Outlook via the Outlook export

Using WAB Converter you simply can move Outlook Express Address Book to Outlook 2010. Here I am sharing one website where you can download this tool directly and can solve this problem swiftly & correctly. It basically converts .wab files into .pst which subsequently can be import in Outlook 2010.

  • How to transfer PC's address book over to my new Mac's address book?

My first Mac arrives Monday -- a Mac Mini. I can't figure out how to transfer my Window ME's Outlook Express address book on my PC over to my new Mac's Mail address book. The two computers will not be networked together. Thanks for any help on this.

You'll need to export it out of Outlook Express to a Comma Separated Vars (CSV), a Tab-Delimited text file, or as vCards. You can then import any of those using the Import… command in Address Book. I don't know what custom fields OE supports, some may not import.
