My MacBook Pro computer’s hard drive is not booting.
I booted with the base operating system and ran Disk utilities and I got the following messages:
    Invalid catalog PEOF
    The volume could not be verified completely.
    This disk needs to be repaired.
    Disk utility can’t repair this disk. Backup as many files as possible, reformat the disk,
    and restore your backed-up files.
The problem is that I have a couple of USERS set up on this computer, and it won’t let me backup the files of the second user. The folders are locked and I can’t access them, even though I am logged in as the administrator.
I made a boot disk on my other computer ( a MacPro Early 2008 ) desktop computer with the DiskWarrior 4.4 updater,
but it won’t boot on my MacBook Pro.
How can I backup these user files so that I can copy them back once I fix the drive?
or better yet, How can I repair the Invalid catalog PEOF on this drive?

Try using Disk Utility/Restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition which will erase all data.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

You first convert them to ProRes with Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP, then import the ProRes files into FCP. FCP doesn't work with the AVI container...footage must be Quicktime, and must be in a codec FCP works with.

Make sure you are running FCP 7.0.3. That version deals with files from the NX5 the best. If you are on a previous version, like FCP 6....you will need to use CLIPWRAP2 from Divergentmedia.com. As the specific AVCHD format the NX5 uses is something that FCP 6 cannot really deal with.

Can anyone assist me with a clue to how I can restore backup files from a previous version of PC suite software. With my believe that softwares have a tradition of upward compatibility I updated my PC Suite application from an inferior version of 6.14 to 6.85.14.1 and now am not able to restore file of the perious version.
It is evident that the file formats are different because file of the previous version is of format. *.nfb and this new version have files of type *.nbu. Can anyone please assist me our??

How to backup files from old time machine to new time machine

I have been using an external drive as my Time Machine for about a year. I just got a Time Capsule. Can I set up Time Machine to move all the backups from my old drive to my new Time Capsule? I assume it's not as simple as dragging the files from my old drive to the Time Capsule drive.
I have clicked Change Disk... in the Time Machine preferences to change my backup drive to the Time Capsule. However, I don't think that's going to move my old backup files to the Time Capsule.

than imported the Excel using the import from database tool in the Oracle BI Adminstration. I see the Excel but i can't see data in it. Can you help me, please? I'm new in this.

Did you enter a range in excel file?
The range represents table name in the physical layer after you import excel file.

Did you use import from database and select excel data source that you created in ODBC?
I did the same and works for me.
Save repository first and view data and check connection pool/data source name in your excel database folder.

How do I import backup files of Thunderbird profiles and Firefox bookmarks from my Windows XP computer, which are on a USB flashdrive, to my Windows 7 computer?

Carbonite provided me with complete backup copy of all files on my prior Windows XP computer, on a 32GB Data Traveler USB flashdrive, so I can transfer them to my new windows 7 computer.
Many of those files will simply restore....but, I believe that all my Firefox bookmark files and my Thunderbird address book and local folders files will need to be "imported" by some procedure to make the transition from WinXP to Win7.

Ical cant import backup file

Trying to sync with Outlook on a PC via Mobileme screwed up my calendar files so I deleted them (after creating a new Home) and now I can't import my backed up .icbu file.
The old calendar items appear briefly on screen and then it reverts to the blank diary with the pinwheel rotating on my mobileme id.
How do I get my calendars back?

The NEF module is for the Nikon Camera RAW Still Images. However, if you use Photoshop, you will probably want to download and install the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW module.
As for the CODEC, Video files are seen first as formats, which are "wrappers," and those contain various CODEC's, which are the compress/decompress specs. inside the files. This ARTICLE goes into more detail on them. Those CODEC's might be general, such as MPEG-2, or they might be heavily tweaked, by the camera mfgr..That is why we most often recommend using the camera mfgr's specific version of each CODEC, like the MJPEG CODEC. However, there are other MJPEG CODEC's, and those work for many. There are links in that article for Lead and MainConcept.
When you look at the Nikon utility disc, in Windows Explorer, what all do you see. As mentioned, some camera mfgrs. will issue their CODEC as a separate install (CODEC's install at the system level), or they might install along with the camera's driver, or they might install with some other software on that disc.

Windows partition corrupt, how to backup files to another PC?

Hello Everybody,
I have a Macbook with a Windows partition, Windows XP to be exact which now loads a Black screen with a blinking cursor and cannot get past that point. I would attempt to fix it, but I have done some research and found that chances are I will need to restore it and not get my files back. So I figured the most important thing to do now is to find a way to retrieve and backup the files that are in there. I can load the Mac Partition, but it just so happens that most of the files I want to save are in the Windows.
My question is:
1. Can I just pull out the hard drive from the Macbook, put it in an external hard drive enclosure, and plug it into another PC to pull out the files?
or
2. Is there a way to access these Windows files from the Mac OS Partition?

1. Yes, I think you can use that drive in an external enclosure. If you plug it into Windows, it will probably see both partitions on the drive but you'll only be able to read the Windows partition. This is probably your best bet for backing up your Windows files.
2. Yes, you should be able to access the files from OSX. Depending on the version of Boot Camp, you might have this functionality already -- check to see if your bootcamp/windows drive shows up on your desktop or in Finder.
If it's not there, you can use a 3rd party app to read and write to that partition. Paragon might be a good choice, and they have a free trial you can try to see if it gives you what you need. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
There are other solutions, even free ones, to allow OSX access to NTFS drives, but I can't vouch for any of them.

If you mts files without the metadata wrapper you can use ClipWrap to transcode the files to the Apple Imtermediate Codec.

How to backup files onto external hard drive if my MacBook's graphics card is broken?

I have a 15" 2012 Macbook pro with 2gb of ram, i7 processor, and a 250 gb Hard drive. In the middle of using my computer, the screen went black. Upon rebooting the computer, I noticed gray and white horizontal lines running across the screen, but I was still able to see the apple logo and loading indicator in the background. As soon as the login screen appeared, the screen went black again.
Genius Bar Diagnosis:
A few days later I took my computer to the apple store to have them diagnose the computer to determine if the hard drive was corrupt or if it was just a display issue. They found that the hard drive was still functioning properly, so no information was lost. The problem was that the graphics card needed to be replaced. So they offered to ship my laptop to an Apple repair facility in Houston, Texas (nearest one to me) and replace the graphics card, as well as any other parts that seemed to be damaged, for a flat rate of about $315. They recommended that I back up my hard drive just in case they found an issue with it (despite nothing showing up in the diagnosis at the genius bar) because the technicians at the repair facility will just swap it out for a new one.
My dilemma:
The employee at the genius bar gave me a list of Apple Authorized Service Providers that could help transfer the data from my macbook's hard drive to an external hard drive. I got a quote from them for $150, plus I would have to pay for a new external hard drive because my other one is full. In an effort to save money, I want to see if there is a cheaper way for me to backup the hard drive by myself. I have a pc laptop that still works fine, so I have been using that since my MacBook Pro died on me. Is there any way I could use that other computer to somehow backup my macbook's hard drive? Or would I need another mac to do the transfer? I have looked into buying a hard drive sled, but I don't know how those work, and I may not have all of the right equipment for it. If that is something I have the right tools for, and it's cheaper after buying all the accessories, then I would much rather go that route than taking it in to get serviced at an AASP store. Please help!

Simplest way is to use Target Disk mode:
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode - Apple Support
and hook to another Mac and use CCC or SuperDuper and clone your HD to another drive.
You could also pull the drive out of your MBP and use an external USB case or SATA - USB dongle to hook it to another Mac.
