How important is it to clean browser cache on my iMac?

If you're having problems with the browser you could do it to see if it helps things, but probably not necessary routinely.

    I have a Mac Book Pro.  I have been playing Song Pop for about 6 months.  However, just starting today, Song Pop doesn't load.  The record on the title page of Song Pop just keeps spinning.  I saw someplace online that I might have to clean the cache.  Is that so?  If so, how do I do that?  Thank you.

    Hi Mike,
    Just as Hsbal said, we can use a connection string for ODBC, so that we don’t have to pre-create the DSN on the systems that will be running the SSIS package.
    Please note that most of the Source can use a connection string without DSN. Please use the correct connection string based on the source. For more details, please refer to the following document:

  • How Can I Clean Memory, Cache...And Boost Memory On Playbook (like clean & boost memory on Blackberry phone)?

    Dear bros, I have a question which I concern about: How Can I Clean Memory, Cache...And Boost Memory On Playbook (like clean & boost memory on Blackberry phone)? I want to to this because I want my playbook run smoothly.
    Thanks all.

    The PlayBook manages memory through the OS, there's no 'memory cleaner' like on the BlackBerry phones.
    In the browser, there are settings to clear cache, cookies and history which do improve the browser performance.
    You may want to try and change the PlayBook multitasking mode. Go into Settings - General and change 'Application Behaviour'. Showcase is full multitasking (slower), Paused pauses all programs when minimised and makes the PlayBook save battery and run a little faster.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to clean file cache before loading PDF file ?

    Hi,
    I have one application in which we open PDF file inside it using the following api .
    AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF axAcroPDF1 = new AxAcroPDFLib.AxAcroPDF();
    axAcroPDF1.LoadFile(m_FileName);
    What I observed that, when we open PDF files second time, it opens with a page where we have closed it for the first time.
    It happens only when acrobat.exe is already running means if somebody already opened another PDF document and then we open and close the document in my application
    So I wanted to know is there any way to clean file cache information so that it open file with the first page always ?.

    From the X Lab's Maintaining Mac OS X
    System and User cache cleaning are troubleshooting steps, not part of regular maintenance.
    Caches are used to improve the performance of both the operating system and applications. Removing System and User cache files for other than troubleshooting purposes defeats the purpose of cache files, which will be rebuilt automatically at your next restart or login, adding time to those processes.
    Potential side effects of System-level cache cleaning are discussed in our "Side effects of System cache cleaning" FAQ.
    Accordingly, cache cleaning can be an important troubleshooting step, such as when used in our"Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ, but it is not regular maintenance.

    How do I clean the "cache" of internet sites (URL's) stored on my computer?
    Where are cookies stored?
    I cannot find where these are stored, though a technician showed me once.

    Under Safari's History menu select Clear History at the bottom of the listing.
    To clear Cookies open Safari Preferences > Privacy and locate the button to clear cookies.
    If you enable the Develop menu then you can empty all caches from it. Should find that under the Advanced icon in the preferences toolbar.

    Hello @JoBla,
    Thank you for the information, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
    I have read your post on how you are wondering if your desktop computer's hard disk is caching is being used, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
    For caching on your computer, you will have needed to install one of the following drives:
    1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
    2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
    3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
    1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
    2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
    3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
    128 GB SATA Solid State Drive
    256 GB SATA Solid State Drive
    It is likely that this caching drive will be shown in Disk Management, which can be accessed by following this document on Partitioning and Naming Drives (Windows 8). It is important to note that an mSATA drive will not be visible in Windows, if you have one installed. You will also need to have Intel RST software installed.
    I hope this helps!

  • How important is gathering statistics on SYS objects?

    Hi,
    How important is gathering statistics on Data dictionary tables and other X$ tables in SYS schema. Is it bad to keep the statistics. Recently our Sr.DBA has deleted all the SYS schema stats telling that it will inversely affect the DB performance. Is it true?
    Regards
    Satish

    Hi Satish,
    *10g:*
    A new DBA task in Oracle Database 10g is to generate statistics on data dictionary objects which are contained in the SYS schema. The stored procedures dbms_stats.gather_database_stats and dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats can be used to gather the SYS schema stats. Here is an example of using dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats to gather data dictionary statistics:
    EXEC dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats(’SYS’);
    *9i*
    While it is supported in 9.2 to gather statistics on the data dictionary and fixed views, doing so isn't the norm.
    There is a bug fixed only in 10gR2 (not expected to be back-ported to 9.2) that caused this error. The fix is – don’t generate statistics against SYS – especially not the Fixed tables.
    For this query, let's see if we can get a better plan by removing statistics or by getting better statistics, or if we need to do something else to tune it. Take the SYS statistics as before, but with gather_fixed => false.
    I would like for you to test first by deleting the statistics on these two X$ tables and see how the query runs (elapsed time, plan).
    delete_table_stats('SYS','X$KQLFXPL');
    delete_table_stats('SYS','X$KGLOB');
    Then you can take statistics on them using gather_table_stats and check again (elapsed time, plan).
    gather_table_stats('SYS','X$KQLFXPL');
    gather_table_stats('SYS','X$KGLOB');
    The issue with this is that the contents of these fixed views, particularly x$kqlfxpl, can change dramatically. Gathering fixed object statistics may help now and cause problems later as the contents change.
    Warning, this is a bit dangerous due to latch contention, see the following note. I've supported a couple of very busy systems that were completely halted for a time due to latch contention on x$kglob due to monitoring queries (particularly on v$open_cursors).
    Note.4339128.8 Ext/Pub Bug 4339128 - Heavy latch contention from queries against library cache views.
    Hope this answers your question . . .

  • Another simple bash script to clean pacman cache

    here is a simple script that I have written which cleans pacman cache folder in a way that only the packages which are now "updated" in the repositories, will get removed. This is different from what "pacman -Sc" does. pacman -Sc also removes any package which is not installed, while this script keeps all the packages which are updated whether they are installed or not.
    The functionality is some how like what "apt-get autoclean" does in debian.
    to use this script you need to run it with "list" or "clean" arguments.  you can also use the "help" argument for more help.
    I hope it helps

    1. `echo -e 'foo\nbar\nbaz'` gets long and unreadable quickly. Instead, use here documents:
    cat <<EOF
    What should I do?
    Valid Argument are "list", "clean" or "help"
    EOF
    2. Use a case command, looks cleaner:
    case "$1" in
    list) ... ;;
    clean) ... ;;
    help|-h|--hep) ... ;;
    # Check if the user is sure!
    echo "This might take a while based on the amount of cached packages."
    echo -n "$MESSAGE(y/n) "
    read ANS
    if [ $ANS = "y" -o $ANS = "Y" -o $ANS = "yes" ]

    elif [ $ANS = "n" -o $ANS = "N" -o $ANS = "No" ]
    then
    echo "Exiting on user request"
    exit 0
    else
    echo "Invalid answer"
    exit 1
    fi
    Try:
    read -p "hello: " -r
    echo $REPLY
    And again, `case` should be cleaner in this case.
    # Process the packages
    cd $DIR #change to cache directory.
    pacman -Sl | awk '{ print $2" "$3; }' > $TMPFILE
    While you quoted a lot, you left these two out. "$DIR" and "$TMPFILE" should be quoted, otherwise whitespaces will break the code.
    for f in $(ls $DIR)
    Apart from the same missing quotes, calling `ls` is a waste here. The following is sufficient and (maybe surprisingly) more accurate:
    for f in *
    How is it more accurate? Run this test script:
    #!/bin/bash
    DIR=/tmp/foo
    mkdir -p "$DIR"
    cd "$DIR"
    touch a\ b c$'\n'd
    for i in *; do
    printf '+%s+\n' "$i"
    done
    printf '%s\n' ---
    for i in $(ls $DIR); do
    printf '+%s+\n' "$i"
    done
    Let's not go too far here. Just get the idea.
    do
    pname=$(file $f | cut -d: -f1) #Produces filename, like: fetchmail-6.3.19-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz"
    Calling `file` here is, again, unnecessary. Also, filename of a package can contain ":", e.g., vi-1:050325-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz, which breaks your code.
    Don't complicate things:
    pname=$f
    spname=$(echo $pname | sed 's/-[0-9][0-9]*.*//g') #removes package version: fetchmail
    Broken for ntfs-3g-2011.4.12-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz, nvidia-173xx-utils-173.14.31-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz, etc...   Something less lousy:
    sed 's/\(-[^-]\+\)\{3\}$//' <<< "$pname"
    pver=$(echo $pname | sed 's/.*-\([0-9\-\.][0-9\-\.]*-[0-9\-\.][0-9\-\.]*\).*/\1/g') #using pacman -Qi for all files takes a lot of time.
    Although this might work for now, this would break if we had an architecture that starts with a digit, e.g. 686.  Something less lousy:
    sed 's/\(.*\)-\([^-]\+-[^-]\+\)-[^-]\+$/\2/' <<< "$pname"
    if [ $(echo $pver | grep '[^0-9\-\.\-\-]' | wc -l) != 0 ] #checks if package version is alright
    then
    pver=$(pacman -Qpi $f | grep Version | awk '{print $3}')
    fi
    Again, calling `wc` here is a waste. Anyway, why is this check necessary at all?
    newpver=$(grep -e "^$spname " $TMPFILE | awk '{ print $2 }')
    if [[ $newpver != $pver ]]
    then
    $ACTION $f
    fi
    done
    rm -f $TMPFILE
    echo "Outdated packages processed successfully!"
    exit 0
    The post is getting too long, so so much from me. If there's anything you don't understand yet, read bash(1).

  • How to read iCal events from SQLite Cache file?

    I need to figure out how to read event entries in the Cache file stored in /Library/Calenders/ as my actual events have been corrupted due to a file system problem. The example below shows the information I have for each entry, where the event in the entry was Bon Jovi Concert, however I am confused how I can read the date and time of the event, information I believe is stored as 218215639,219613081,219524400,219540600. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    INSERT INTO "ZCALENDARITEM" VALUES(0,NULL,0,NULL,0,5,NULL,6,4039,NULL,0,0,0,0,0,0,2,23,0,0,0,0,6,0,21821563 9,219613081,219524400,219540600,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,'local_AFB8D342-2DAE-4F A1-A9A6-3FA9B28B5C7C','Bon Jovi Concert',NULL,NULL,NULL,'Europe/London',NULL,'0E17BBB6-0E76-4024-8DD7-60E43D38D 35B');

    OK, here we go ... I hope. I have tried it on my iCal, with about 2000 entries, and it worked. I cannot guarantee that it will work for you.
    Make a new text file from sql as before, but using this modified command to get additional data for each event:
    sqlite3 Desktop/Hope 'select ZSTARTDATE, ZCALENDARITEM.ZTITLE, ZENDDATE, ZNODE.ZTITLE, ZISALLDAY, ZRECURRENCERULE, ZISDETACHED from ZCALENDARITEM inner join ZNODE on ZCALENDARITEM.ZCALENDAR = ZNODE.Z_PK where ZSTARTDATE not null' >hope.txt
    I suggest you make a new user account, then copy the text file hope.txt and the script to the Public/Drop Box folder for that account. Log on to the new account and copy the two files from the drop box to the Desktop. Start iCal and make new calendars to match those in your ordinary account. Double click the script to open it in Script Editor and CHANGE THE DATE RANGE in the "set ThePeriod" line. Stand well back and click the run button. Every 50 records processed it will pop up a progress box, which will pop down again after a second. Go for lunch.
    When it is finished see if things look OK in iCal. If they do export each of the calendars, copy them to the drop box of your normal account and return to your normal account to import them.
    If there is an error make a note of the error message and line number, find that line in the text file, and post it here with a couple of lines either side.
    Note that for recurring items iCal normally only makes a single event, the first occurrence, then uses a recurrence rule to calculate if the event should be displayed in the current window. If there are any recurring events in the period you have selected where the first occurrence is before the period they will not be recreated. Where however you have changed a single occurrence of a recurring event iCal makes a new, detached, event. Any of these in the period will be detected. If their original event was also in the period they will now appear in the iCal display as duplicates. For easy spotting of these, I have prefixed "XX-" to the title of any detached events.

  • How reliable is Systweak Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto?

    How reliable is Systweak Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto?

    Here're the cleaning apps I've tested on a limited basis:
    These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
    PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
    Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported the library.
    DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
    DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
    iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
    PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
    Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
    Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
    If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
    iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer?

    How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer? Will the leopard dvd run out of installations and not let you install anymore?

    Hi colman Prez;
    Now that the funny comments have been made, I have a serious question and that why are you worry about reinstalling Leopard with an Erase & Install which is what I take that you mean when you say clean install. In actually fact there is no such thing in OS X as a clean install.
    I am curious because in all the years I have used OS X, I have yet to do an Erase & Install yet.
    I know with Windows that they suggest reformatting and reinstalling at the drop of a hat but that isn't true with OS X.
